pairing: matt murdock/gn!reader words: 1,009. warnings: some brief mentions of blood + injuries, but no details. summary: matt gets back later than usual, more banged up than usual. a little first aid seems in order before he can sleep. good thing you're there to help him, right? (i'm a new blog, so rbs are appreciated!! requests are also v much open so feel free to swing by!)

you had a funny feeling in your gut when you woke up in bed still alone, and the time on your phone read a dim 3:37. it felt a little like a warning, and it was one you heeded, slowly rousing yourself further from sleep and eventually pulling yourself out of bed. for a moment, you considered taking the blanket with you, but you decided against it in the end; too dangerous to have when your goal was to sit on the couch and stay awake.

it was a good thing you did. your phone reads 4:11 when you heard the rooftop door creak open, quiet and careful. but then it stops abruptly, and, a few beats later, you hear a voice call down, "you're awake?"

you turn to look over your shoulder. matt's in the doorway, lips pulled down in a frown, and even with his daredevil helmet on, you can practically see the furrow of his brow in your mind, clear as day.

"i woke up," you explain, "and you weren't back yet. had a funny feeling i should stay awake 'til you came back."

"sweetheart," matt starts.

but you're quick to interrupt him with, "don't 'sweetheart' me, mister. you sound exhausted. come down here and let me take a look at you."

matt's frown deepens, but he doesn't argue. at this point he's learned there's no point to it, not for something like this. he's slow and stiff as he makes his way down the stairs, towards the couch.

"i don't...think i should sit there," says matt. there's a strain to his voice that's hard to miss. "might get blood in the cushions, and you always say it's—"

"'a bitch and a half to get out,'" you both recount at the same time.

matt smiles. you grin.

with a little oof of effort, you get up from the couch, bringing a gentle hand to the small of matt's back and starting to steer him towards the bathroom. there's a quick debate between the two of you on if it'd be better for him to sit on a towel on the floor or to just sit on the closed toilet lid — and the lid wins out. easier for you to reach him (you'll just sit on the edge of the tub), and no towels to scrub blood out of to boot.

helping matt peel himself out of his suit, you murmur to him the whole time. gentle reassurances, promises of getting him patched up and in bed and a nice, tall glass of water to go with the ibuprofen you'll be forcing down his gullet. he laughs, fingers brushing your arm as you slip past him to get the first aid kit from under the sink.

"y'know, having a personal nurse is not something i don't think i'll ever get used to," he says, head turned towards you. he's got his elbow on the counter, cheek in his other hand.

"why? you planning to fire me?" you quip back.

and now his fingers find the small of your back, touch warm, steadying. "not a chance." his hand slides to your hip, squeezing it. "there's only one other nurse in the city that would put up with me for free, but that's past-tense. can't afford t'lose you now."

you turn, fixing an amused look on him. "i don't patch you up for free, babe. i consider the lazy mornings we spend in bed to be equivalent payment. kisses are like a bonus."

"ah," says matt, his hand still heavy on your hip as you stand again, setting the first aid kit on the counter. his grin is lazy -- or maybe it's just tired. "good thing tomorrow's bound to be a lazy morning, huh?"

you snap on a glove as you correct him: "today is bound to be a lazy morning. it's four in the morning, matt."

he huffs out a laugh, shoving playfully at your shoulder. "you're harping on my choice of words when i have blood loss?"

"it's how i check on you! if you're complaining, that means you're still okay!" you say in defense, laughing too.

is it normal to be laughing and joking around while you're patching up your boyfriend's wounds that he got while out on the streets as a vigilante? probably not, no. but there's a lot of things about you and matt that aren't normal. that's something you've long since accepted, and you have no complaints, because there's trust in this -- it's implicit, meaningful. he lets you patch him up, he lets you in on this daredevil secret, because he trusts you, and you trust him. hell, how could you ever complain about that?

...you do complain a little, though. mostly about how damn hard it was to thread the needle so you can stitch up the gash on his side, but matt does it in seconds when it took you minutes of struggling before you gave up.

but once he's stitched up, cleaned off, and chugged half a glass of water to go with the ibuprofen you forced him to take? the two of you climb into bed, just as the sun's starting to rise and the time on your phone reads 5:45.

matt's laying on his side. you slip in behind him, carefully draping your arm over him to avoid the wound you stitched up. he's already breathing slower, softer.

"my alarm's s'posed to go off in an hour," you mumble against the back of his neck. "that's a little messed up."

"did y'turn it off?" he asks, voice just as quiet. his hand closes over yours, but his grip is light.

"mhm," you hum in affirmation. "one lazy morning comin' up, mister murdock."

he doesn't answer beyond a puff of air against your arm.

wow. that's, what, three minutes? probably a new record on how fast he's fallen asleep. you'll have to make him an extra cup of coffee whenever you two finally decide to force yourselves out of bed later, but...that can wait. for now, you're just going to sleep much easier now that matt's in bed with you.

Ok so! I'm officially starting the friendsim poll event later today or tomorrow! Before it starts though, I'm going to give a quick rundown of how it'll go!

Firstly, this is basically going to function like friendsim/pesterquest! You'll be given a narrative and a selection of choices, starting with the list of trolls (though not in the way you'll expect it!) And then limited options of how to interact with them! The only real difference here is that other people voting are what influence the winning option!

Mod's energy and public interest willing, once any given 'route' with a troll is finished, the troll selection poll will be brought back, minus ones already done, and we start the process over again!

However, to prevent this going on TOO long, each troll will only get ONE route focus*! So if enough people pick the 'bad end' options then that's all you'll get! Choose wisely!

*exception here being unless mod comes up with a KILLER alt route and just Has to show it off but as of rn that's not a thing

The events of this 'pollsim' as it'll be tagged are noncanon to the blog itself! What this means is, even if canon events and information are explored during this event, the trolls are unaware of the event! If you try to ask them about the event, they may not know what you're talking about! You're free to ask and confuse them, just don't expect straightforward answers!

This event is being written on the fly! This may lead to delays in updates or slapdash writing. This is being done this way so the mod doesn't expend a lot of energy on routes that won't get seen, and also perhaps so he can work on something else behind the scenes....

Polls will be set to expire within a day, so if you're invested in this event please check back on this blog as often as you can! If there's delays the mod will post updates accordingly to avoid silence. Audience interaction is what keeps this blog afloat, every little bit helps!

A Return

hi y'all! i was on vacation for 2 weeks in late july, without wifi access, but i am here to state my official return, not just to tumblr, but to streaming! I sadly cannot stream minecraft at the moment, as my internet is still shit, but i will be doing a talking/cooking (?) stream tomorrow morning! I will be making teas from my herb garden harvest and will be chatting about weird holiday stories, smp shenanigans, and a whole lot of other stuff too!
