Seeing people saying Fit is soooo jealous about Pac being excited to meet Wilbur is silly considering the fact that Fit offered Pac advice on what to do / how to act, offered to introduce them, and also said he'd write a "strongly worded message" to Wilbur if he didn't log on because Fit didn't want to disappoint Pac. I know we all love drama but at the end of the day: Fit's happy seeing Pac happy.

Day 46 of 100 Days of Writing

I'm currently ass deep in the middle of moving so my posts have been sparse, but I wanted to do this one because I have such a specific edit process.

First few rounds of edits are me reading through for big picture stuff. Sometimes I'll skip sections and leave notes like [name] or [describe room in detail] or [they bang here] if the smut brain cell has decided to take a vacation.

I write my scenes by arc and split them into chapters later, so I also decide at this point which scenes go into the next chapter. Once that's worked out, I copy and paste into a separate beta document my betas have access to (so they aren't wading through 20-30k of bullshit for one chapter). That gdoc is also linked into my screen reader.

I then feed it through my screen reader and listen to it read aloud to catch typos the spell check may have missed. This is where I catch and fix awkward sentence structure as well.

Sometimes I'll be confident enough I don't need to send it to beta. If I have issues for them it's usually "Does this read clearly here" or "is this in character/does this behaviour make sense." If they've adjusted anything, I feed it back through the screen reader to check again.

Once I'm happy with that I throw it into an ao3 draft and link in all external media. Banners, video clips, etc. I fiddle with formatting, make sure stylized sections like text messages and letters and stuff look correct. Add a summary and relevant author's notes.

Then I save it til the posting date. I go in to edit again, make sure ao3 hasn't broken my formatting, adjust the posting date to the current one, and then zing, it's live.

It's a bit convoluted but it's kind of relaxing for me, and the number of passes I make on every chapter helps keep continuity details fresh in my brain for future scenes.

Of course sometimes I go full no gods no masters and throw all of this out and yeet with minimal edit because occasionally I crave both serotonin and violence. But the above process is how I've been doing The Place Where I Belong. :)
