Thank you for that Charles/Alastair analysis♥️ Finally someone pointed out the fact that their relationship was most likely physical because of that one line Alastair said and GOD IT BREAKD MY HEART. Like CHARLES DUDE can’t you see the boy is broken?? God I can’t wait for Thomastair. Would you rant about your expectations for Thomastair? After seeing the ugly facts about A’s relationship with Buford I seriously need to focus on everything good that is possibly coming in A’s way❣️❣️❣️❣️

Hi! Sorry it took me long to answer 😊 It’s long so I’ll put the reply under the cut.

And I agree. Judging from what we know, it is likely Charles and Alastair met in a political environment and then they realized each other’s sexual orientation afterwards. It’s possible that Alastair still wasn’t sure of his sexuality, I mean not that he didn’t know he was attracted to men, but that he didn’t know how to deal with it, considering the time. Today we can talk to other people or go online to look for information about gender, sex, sexuality, etc but in 1902 you couldn’t just go to a friend and say, “hey, I think I am attracted to men,” especially if you are Alastair. In the Academy Alastair seemed to be influential, but he had no real friends (*sad face*) because he had built an alterego. The real Alastair is coming out slowly because he feels safer when he’s the abrasive!Alastair. The real Alastair is the one we saw with Charles because he lowered his defenses with him. I hate to say this, but it’s true. And understandable, since Charles was his first sexual partner and first love/infatuation. And we’ll see even more of that Alastair with Thomas, imo! 

Alastair dying his hair back to black means he’s ready to leave his “old” life behind him. To some degree his blond hair were an attempt to try to be someone he was not, in order to fit in. And probably to please Charles. I really wish it wasn’t Buford who suggested Alastair to dye his hair blonde...😡 We see how Alastair feels unwelcome, he perceives the racism in the air because he and his family are poc. In addition, the other characters also know about what happened in the Academy, which make him even more of an outcast in comparison to Cordelia (because everyone accepts and likes her). Ok, now I’m getting into “analysis” mode again. 😂

I do believe we’ll find out Thomas and Alastair haven’t spoken to each other when COI starts, which is depressing, but in line with how COG ended. Matthew told everyone Alastair spread what he spread (although he didn’t start the rumor) and Thomas was hurt because of how that lie had made his family suffer. Thomas, like Alastair, is a family person who cares for his parents and sisters, and he may decide to resent Alastair, but not really. From the snipped we got (Hate me on your own behalf), it’s possible Thomas gives the silent treatment to Alastair but is also nice to him. I don’t know how to explain. They may be forced to share the same spaces because Alastair is concerned about Cordelia, and this line indicates that he may feel like Thomas is not truly hating him, and I think Alastair wants to be hated. He’d rather be hated than ignored, because it means he would be in the other person’s mind regardless. 

One philosopher once said: “The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.” 

Alastair wants to be a better person. He was hurt at Cordelia’s engagement party, because the magnitude of his past actions exploded into the present - 1903!Alastair is not like 1899!Alastair. This, Thomas knows it. He’s even mad that Matthew dares to call Alastair out for something that happened 4 years before. 

Thomas frowned. “Matthew,” he said, his usually gentle voice remonstrative, “that was the past. It is time for us to be adults and forget childish slights.”

I said on another post that Matthew and Alastair are mirroring characters. I do not believe Matthew dislikes Alastair 100%, he dislikes that Alastair is linked to his guilt: Alastair haunts Matthew’s conscience because of what happened in Cast Long Shadows, which is linked to the rumors. It’s all connected. But you know what? It is better that Thomas knows that Alastair spread the rumor. He may start distancing himself from Alastair because he feels betrayed. After all, he saw how Alastair is when he is comfortable with someone, and Thomas may have thought: Why me? I thought you liked me. I even defended you in front of my friends. I thought you and I connected.

They were in a chemistry lab making the antidote and their conversation spanned on different topics which they approached as mature people. Thomas may not approach what he discovered about Alastair “maturely”, which would be a change for his character. He may not know what to do and associate himself with the hatred the others may show (although I think the one who will keep on ostracizing Alastair will be Matthew. James already showed signs that he moved on from the rumors) until he won’t be able to do it anymore and he will break. Thomas can’t really hate Alastair even if he hurt him. And then we’ll have our first Thomastair kiss. Or so I wish. At some point it will happen, right? 

Thomas didn’t give Alastair the chance to apologize for spreading the rumor, so first he will probably say sorry. Not because he wants to be forgiven. He will say sorry because he truly feels sorry, and it’s something a person who regrets what they did normally does. And then build trust from there, day after day. I can see Thomastair seeing each other in secret because Alastair doesn’t want Thomas to receive backlash because he decided to be around him. I have this scene in mind where they believe they can be freely together because it’s late night and they are patrolling the streets even if Alastair doesn’t like to do it. But Thomas asked him because he wanted to be together and have their privacy. They are kissing each other in a dark alley when one of the Merry Thieves catches them. I think James or Christopher wouldn’t reveal anything about what they’ve just witnessed. Even Lucie would cover for Alastair, because she saw how hurt he was at Cordelia’s engagement. Or they are caught at Jordelia’s wedding (if it happens).

BnHA/MHA 293 reaction and spoilers

Would love to see an anime ending framed around the aesthetic of this chapter cover.

Honestly I was expecting the quirk bullets to be temporary since they’re build up on Rewind already (hence not erasing but just rewinding the quirk back into its dormant state), but I suppose it’s faster this way and a means to show that Eri can used Rewind for brief controlled situations now.

I’m also curious if Eri is really watching the coverage with Yagi like we all assumed or not since she’s just munching on a snack. Although, this is a world in which Inko didn’t think anything about Midoriya watching All Might’s debut video obsessively so maybe kids in this universe have seen so much violence and nonsense that they don’t even really think about it, which would possibly go in line with how superheroes in this universe are a bit like pro-wrestlers IRL. Also, the reporters we have seen seem to be covering more of the evacuation area than the current main fight so it’s probably easier to watch when you don’t know anyone getting injured on the feed.

”…Great Explosion Murder God: Dynamite!!” ilu, Bakugou. A little disappointed that it’s not DynaMight, but it’s already sixteen-year-old angsty nerd enough as is. What I love most though is even if he matures and takes Murder out of the name it still sounds like something someone who’s almost seventeen would come up with left to their own devices – Great Explosion God Dynamite.

Dabi says to Shouto, “Seriously, it’s great that you were raised with love,” which really underscores that Dabi’s been out of the family dynamic for probably about ten years at this point. It also shows a potential relationship between Endeavor’s attention = his love, which follows with what we know from canon. Like how Touya had a lot of attention for being oldest and malleable, Fuyumi got attention for being someone who could take over the household when Rei left, Natsuo got no attention and feels rightfully neglected, and Shouto became the project, which means he got more attention than Touya did. No wonder Dabi perceives this as “raised with love,” when there wasn’t anything loving about it.

Dabi immediately says after this, “The guy’s [Endeavor’s] about to watch his puppet masterpiece burn up and die in the fire of his failed experiment, and he can’t do anything! Ngh…I said look! He’s totally broken inside!! Ha ha ha ha!! Shouto!! Once my fire burns you to ash, I wonder what kind of face Dad’ll make?!” Which again brings us back to it’s about capturing Endeavor’s attention, which is really what everything since the dramatic hair dye removal has been about from the get go.

Midoriya sends Black Whip out of his mouth to get Shouto away from Dabi and Dabi goes, “This is a family affair! None of your business!!” and it’s like good luck with that. Midoriya is always up in business he has no business being up in all the time.

Midoriya says, “It is my business! 'Cuz Todoroki's my firend!! And Endeavor's my mentor who's made me stronger! Sure, the past never dies! And that's why I'm watching Endeavor really hard as he tries to do better! And guess what?! You aren’t Endeavor!” Now, I know a lot of people don’t like this but I think that it makes sense for Midoriya to say this, because Midoriya so far in year one has been a voice for the in-universe society and its morals. I think it’d also be hard for Midoriya to grasp what the Todoroki siblings went through growing up because he lived such a vastly different life too, which, in my experience, is a pretty normal position for someone his age to be in. Also, it’s not too surprising he’s going to step in, because after Sir Nighteye’s death, I doubt he’d really want the death of another mentor on his hands.

That said, what I’m hoping this battle marks is a turning point in how Midoriya perceives society. I would love to see second year’s theme be Midoriya starting to question and deconstruct hero society a bit. Would also love Uraraka to reflect on Toga’s question about if villains can be saved too. I’ve always kind of wanted this manga to start heading towards a conclusion of Midoriya is the greatest hero because he helped change society rather than he’s the greatest hero because he upheld society. Though right now it’s hard to tell which direction things might go especially since this manga will remain popular enough we’ll go through all three years of high school with these characters. Might be a while before we can start to see things move in that kind of direction. It would also fit with the theory that you can’t destroy AFO without destroying OFA, so Midoriya has to change for that to happen. Although the story might end with Midoriya passing down OFA and the cycle continuing. Still too early to tell.

It makes sense if the sedative were to work that it would take a while for it to work considering how massive Gigantomachia is, especially if the dosage really is meant to put him to sleep and not actually kill him.
