howdy I noticed you're doing a rewatch and I love your blog alot. I'm a very new critter. I started getting into cr just as quarantine hit so I started at episode 100 but I desperately want to rewatch the old episodes so I understand the characters more. I've seen clips from cr1/cr2 but Im ready for the whole thing now lol I was wondering if you had any tips to watch? I feel like I'm going pretty slow.
Oh hi! And thank you so much!!!
Disclaimer: This entire thing is a long-winded way of saying that if you think you’re going slow, you’re probably not. The way I originally sped through the show is probably not normal lol.
First, I think you’re already doing it right, considering how long this show is. Huh. you might change how I suggest people start getting into this show now. Anyway, since you’re already watching campaign two live, I’d definitely suggest you stick with them and watch their early episodes first before moving on to campaign one. There have been some campaign one cameos in the second campaign, but they’re pretty good about avoiding campaign one spoilers. (Not perfect, but pretty good.) Now... tips for watching...
I know a lot of people watch at 1.25x speed. I’ve never actually tried that, so I can’t speak for it personally, but it does seem to help them get through it. Another tip that may be a little less popular would be to skip through the battles on your first watch. I didn’t actually do that, and I mean... okay... there are some super cool moments in battle, but if you’re trying to catch up on the story, that’ll cut down on episode times significantly. The RP is what is going to progress the story 99% of the time. (I love the battles so that pains me to say, but... it might help.)
I think you’ll be able to tell based off where you are in the story if it’s not a super significant battle and can be skipped. Like, the beginning of episode 43 should not be skipped, because a lot of story elements happen in that battle, but that’s really the only one I can think of off the top of my head that is a must not miss battle in this campaign. Other than the dragon turtle, which you’ve already seen! Oh. And the end of episode 98. Also, a solo fight of Yasha’s in 2x46. The Fighting Pits in 2x89. God, I’m sure there are more, but like I said. You’ll probably be able to tell in the moment.
I got super lucky when I got into CR, because I had a job that was (I was going to call it meaningless, but that’s not entirely fair to me lol) mostly data entry and answering emails and creating powerpoint slides. Plus I have unlimited data on my cell phone. So what I did the entire time I was watching campaign one? Was basically spend my entire day watching. I had my phone propped up against books on my desk at work and was listening with headphones. Then, I would keep the video going and listen to the audio while I was driving to and from work, because I had a 45-ish minute drive each way. And then I would immediately start watching again as soon as I got home. I also lost a lot of sleep for a couple weeks, because I took my headphones in to bed and watched it instead of sleeping lol. I was knocking out 3 episodes a day on average. But I also can’t focus on doing one thing. So, I have to have a show going while I’m playing a video game or doing mindless work, or I can’t do either thing. I don’t really know why, but my brain won’t focus on either thing. (This is the main reason I live-blog.)
#critical role#god i'm sorry this is not at all helpful lol#the watching at 1.25x speed is the only good tip i have for watching faster!!#anonymous#erin answers things
