Some context that will help people understand the corporate AI writing boom: most people in writing-heavy roles are not trained writers, and are not rated on the quality of their writing. I’m not talking about people whose title is tech writer or copy writer; I’m talking about people in marketing. People who write PR and ads and blogs and promotional emails all day long, but don’t consider themselves writers, and don’t bother to learn to write well. Their managers also do not consider their work in this way, and judge it only on flashiness and resulting engagement. It doesn’t matter if Tyler in marketing has bad grammar and used all of the wrong words to mischaracterize a product. If he can talk himself up enough to his manager in his quarterly review, he’ll get a raise, and shit out even more of the useless kinds of content that clog the internet’s ecosystem
#idk what kind of writing classes marketing degrees have… but a lot of people don’t get marketing jobs by going to school first#they get educated in something else. take an entry level role. then get promoted from within#for many copy writer and tech writer roles actually there is a lack of an overseeing editor or managers who have a writing management bg#I’m speaking mostly from a corporate POV of course. but this is the environment that gave birth to the AI boom#disclaimer that I am talking from my experience. I am not peer reviewed lol
