5 years ago, high-schooler Tomoya faked his age and tried to get laid at a gay bar. While the attempt failed, he never forgot the man he had encountered, Kei. After being told he was attractive by Kei, Tomoya went on to become a famous idol in the group INCITE. After an incident with a stalker, Tomoya got assigned a personal bodyguard, who turned out to be none other than Kei?!
I meant to rec this a while ago because it is SO funny. some of the comedic beats are crazy good, the end of the first two chapters took me out. talking about the funniest parts would spoil a couple really fun punchlines, but one non-spoilery bit I can give is:
after the love interest rejects the main character for being a high schooler and then encourages him, the main character asks to take a picture of the love interest For The Memories… and then makes personalized merch of this random guy to decorate his room so he can hype himself up as he trains to be an idol. it’s not even a particularly idol-esque photo, the love interest is barely smiling and is standing like just some guy (because he’s just some guy). the main character is tenderly placing his hand on a poster he printed and going like ‘oh random guy I met at a bar 5 years ago and will probably never see again, we’re really in it now…’
I also like how low-key the romance is, there’s a few key moments with minimal dialogue/thought bubbles so you get to sit with the characters rather than being overly immersed in their perspective. intentional use of silence I feel I don’t see highlighted that often.
anyway, it’s a fun and pretty lighthearted read, if you’re interested in idol (acts like a fan)/bodyguard (just some guy) it’s definitely worth checking out
