I do think in a way it’s swung back around from losing the plot to poetic irony with the way a lot of the fandom erased Curly’s autonomy and personhood after the crash. A huge point is how Jimmy doesn’t think of Curly as a person who can think outside of what he decides for him, it’s a total loss of agency for him after becoming heavily disabled. Something that so many disabled people experience with being treated like dolls or props. It’s swung around from losing the plot to the full irony of replaying it
