Since they’re teaming up I want us all to solemnly swear to make the gem-joel dynamic as complicated and bad as possible. I say dynamic and not ship only because I don’t think their relationship is either platonic or romantic I think it transcends that. to me they live together in a loveless marriage in a manor somewhere in the woods and gem comes back from her high-paying business job (in the woods) to find joel in severe distress because their shitty little purse dog tore up another pillow on the couch or something. to me they’re rival baseball players who purposely decide to hit each other in the face with the ball as many times as possible, eventually leading to the first recorded fatality delivered via baseball bat during a game broadcasted on live television. to me they are mythic heroes fated to destroy each other, at once the head and tail of the ouroboros, perseus and medusa, icarus and the sun… to me they’re friends from college who grew apart and hate each other but must come together for one last great heist of the local papa john’s… they can be anything. the only thing they can never be is normal.
