Advice for dogs who are vocal when excited?
Last time I asked dogbook I got some…off topic advice and some bullshit answers. So I’m not going that route. I’m really lost on how to handle Aayla being vocal in obedience and rally.
I do get it in training and trials. I need obedience and rally to be fun and done with energy. So I’m VERY cautious about my corrections on this. She barked mid jump on the broad jump. I will 100% not do any corrections on that. It’s been hard enough to get her enthused and happy about that funky exercise.
It’s easiest to work on this with heeling. I’ve tried extensive rewarding on silent heeling with high ROR. I’ve tried restarting every time she is vocal but I’m cautious because this had shut her down with heeling before. I’ve tried calmer reinforcements (which increased her forging?? Despite reward placement still being frequent, at my hip coming from my back and so on).
Yet nothing has decreased her whining and occasional excited barks. I’m tempted to try and hire a trainer for this.
If anyone has any advice I’d love to hear it. Pet dogs, sport dogs, working dogs…anything. Let me hear it.
#she loves to make noise while staring heeling#on pivots#I know she is a bit too excited but we cant find the line of fun vs too aroused#she barks and talks in play and other excited scenarios too

This book!!! And not just because the cover dog looks like my Fanny Wiggles! #dogbook #novel #greatread Oh, this book! It was exquisite. It made me think, it made me cry, it made me want to turn the page and I'm still thinking about it now. It resonated in my heart and changed the way I think about the deaths of my own animals, veterinarians' hearts, and how sentient animals are. I would say the book is haunting me, but in a good way. The characters were wonderful -so well written, sympathetic, real people I could picture. Am I gushing? Yes, I'm gushing. I just haven't read a book that speaks to me on so many levels in a long time. Loved it. So very well done. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_QWVA9A0G3/?igshid=9x3dnqha0t1f
