He is taking over my life, and I am scared. I literally brought up that I am obsessed with him. Like how a religious person getting indoctrinated into a cult would be, I meant it as a joke at the time, but it’s, it’s very much true.

BnHA Chapter 310: A Tale of Two Kacchans

Previously on BnHA: Flashback!Deku was all, “hey, you know what sounds like a good decision? Abandoning my studies at the safest place in the country so that the bad guy who wants to find me and kill me has literally nothing standing in his way of doing that.” All Might was all, “I fucking knew you were going to say some bullshit like that so whatever, but I’M COMING WITH YOU and I’m also going to invite the Hawksquad to come with us, mostly so that I can steal Jeanist’s car.” Jeanist was all, “okay fine you can borrow my car, All Might, but only if you wear jeans.” All Might was all, “okay sure” and he wore jeans and also sunglasses and a leather jacket and it was pretty rad. Anyway so now they’re out there fighting crime and hunting down the LoV and stuff, and absolutely none of it is going to end well, I’m just letting you know now. But I guess we’ll let them enjoy it while it lasts.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “happy belated Kacchan’s Birthday makeste, here’s the flashback you really wanted at long last,” and proceeds to pull the old vestige flashback out of the kitchen drawer and upend its contents all over my Friday afternoon without the slightest bit of warning. OFA III is all “WHAT’S UP I’M JUST SOME GUY, HELLO,” and okay?? Hello yourself. OFA II, on the other hand, is all, “okay yeah I have different hair and stuff, but I’m like 98% sure I’m either Bakugou or his goddamn twin, I mean look at me.” Which, yeah. I looked, and he really is though you guys. Anyway though, so he and OFA II basically just showed up in the First (who goes by Yoichi now)’s prison cell one day all “HEY THERE, WE’RE HERE TO SAVE YOU, APPARENTLY, ALTHOUGH WE SEEM REAL CONFUSED ABOUT IT TBH BUT HEY.” And so they saved him, and Yoichi was all “hey nice to meet you do you want to join my super-exclusive Saving The World Club”, and so they did, and then the chapter ended lol. I would have said yes too.

FIRST NAME Good fucking question… It’s (sort-of) currently Dylann! I was Kieran before that, though; it’s still used as one of my first names and I’m not used to Dylann quite yet bc I’ve just started using it. 

Indigo is one of my middle names though, and I’ve used it as an online handle elsewhere forever so I use it here now!  [ Fun etymology facts: Dylan(n) is a mythology name generally meaning “born of the wave” (aspiring diver & a water witch at heart). Kieran means “little dark one” bc of my love for horror, && I chose Indigo bc as a kid to be it was neither boy (blue) or purple (girl) and was both and neither as well as my absolute favorite color as this vibrant ass mystical color. ]

STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF hmmmmm…. I’m a horror lover at heart, so as a child (I wanna say 12), I was walking through an antique store (I have a few cool finds, I considered putting my other one as the fact tbh) and I turned the corner and I saw these two dolls staring back at me at the foot of the stairs of this antique building. my blood froze, and i felt my stomach drop. i got actual, physical goosebumps stumbling across these two creepy dolls staring back at me in the corner, and i couldn’t leave the store without them. perhaps the little painted porcelain boy would be somewhat spooky by himself if it wasn’t for the terrifying lidded gaze of the porcelain girl with the hairline fractures and slightly open lips. i cant look at her. i dont really find dolls scary, I like to find the spookier ones ones, and she makes me paranoid as hell. i keep her face covered and her up in my closet except for when i bring her out to show her off proudly as the spookiest thing I have but……. i dont really collect dolls anymore.  even thinking about her brings a fearful tear to my eye.  i don’t like to think about her for very long, but that’s why I’m so fucking proud to own her. ( YES — I’m THAT white person in the horror film )

FAVORITE BOOK White Fang by Jack London. Have I actually ever finished it? No. Do I still own a copy I’ve had since childhood thru multiple dogs eating it, taking it to and from school, and highlighting and circling all the best parts of chapter one ever since I was a kid and it was too hard of a book for me to read? You bet your ass. If I ever need inspiration I just reread chapter 1. Although one of my other favorites was Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes. But White Fang is like, a weirdly personal text. We stan London’s writing in this household.

im fairly open-minded and laid back. Unless someones being like, purposely nasty or something I generally don’t get defensive or aggressive. also a lot of little quirks that piss others off dont bother me im very u do u as long as its not actually harming anyone and ive had people tell me this makes it easier to open up to me so thats probably my best quality....

18. what is your worst quality, in your opinion?

....at the same time though i do get very sensitive when faced w/ criticism even if its of the fair variety when its not phrased really gently for various reasons and i dont like that. especially since I have a tendency to not even talk to people about it. I’ll just immediately start distancing myself. also other than that i think overall I have a really high tolerance lvl but if you cross that line I hold a grudge like a motherfucker

9. do you like cats or dogs better?

cats! dogs are good too but cats are a lot easier for me to handle...and quieter generally but even when they’re loud cat sounds dont get to me quite as much as barks do

the lack of responsibility, probably. that sounds real bad lmao but for me its like...I know I’ve grown in various ways over the years but I also feel like so many of my experiences, my trauma, my mental health has held me back and I don’t think I’m mentally where I should be for my age. so all the responsibility of adulthood is just..really overwhelming for me sometimes, even though ive been given a pass from certain aspects of it and the rest is pretty simple its the idea!!!!

chillin’ at the pool in summer during the part of the day when no ones there.... swimming is always relaxing 2 me then i love just resting under the sun and drying off afterwards especially since we have a little pond nearby and i can hear the water! its nice

i cant stand passive aggressive behavior. my stance is either get over it or quit acting like a bitch because otherwise im just going to ignore you thats the scorpio way (in all seriousness I really, really do recommend not putting up with it and ignoring it until they decide to be up front with you. it can be exhausting constantly reading into conversations and its not healthy for you or them. if they have something to say they need to learn to talk about it properly, and that lack of social skills is not ever on you)

yep! i think about....six or so? i love them...which is really funny im autistic and EVERYTHING about them should freak me out and they do in other circumstances but at a show i just live for it

nope! ive thought before id like to go vegetarian...but i couldnt do it with my health problems. also i love shrimp too much

ive always wanted to do something creative! when i was rlly young I thought a lot about singing and acting and writing in particular...all things im still interested in.... also i wanted to be a dictator ages 4-7 because i told my mom i wanted to be president of the world and make people do what i say and she said “honey thats a dictator not a president”. i then made that known at school and that turned into a situation!

every trans person living their truth and being open and loud about who they are past present & future. the worlds not particularly kind to us and our existence alone is considered a radical act, so its always given me hope to see others refusing to pretend to be someone they’re not in this environment and I’ll always have mad respect for that

i read manga and webcomics...ive always wanted to get into superhero comics but the amount of issues and different versions is ridiculous and makes it inaccessible 2 me

probably that you have to look at your accomplishments differently when you’re disabled or just struggling, to not be so down on yourself because its a fact that what might be a mole hill to someone else is a mountain to you and you have to judge yourself accordingly. Like maybe you weren’t able to clean the whole house, but washing the dishes and tidying your desk doesn’t usually get done but you did it. That that should be celebrated because while it would also feel good if you did more, you still did something and thats great all things considered.

sometimes, really depends what im lying about and if im like....into it at all. If my guts against it for whatever reason I’ll have trouble

Dear Yuletide writer,

Hello, and thanks for being my writer this year! I’m happy with getting pretty much anything for these fandoms, so if you’ve got an idea that really grabs you, don’t feel like you have to follow a given prompt instead.

General Info

Likes -  characters using fast thinking and fast talking to get themselves out of trouble, MacGyvering, dramatic irony, worldbuilding (including both fictional worldbuilding and real-world history included in the narrative), friendly teasing and humor, vulnerable moments with characters who normally keep a strong front, conflicts of personal wants vs. self-imposed duty and/or societal norms, friends and lovers who would do anything for each other, in-universe documents

DNWs - unrequested non-canonical death of requested characters (canon deaths are fine), non-canon permanent injury or mutilation of requested characters, rape/noncon, underage under 16, setting change AUs (includes both taking characters out of the canon setting such as coffeeshop AUs and significant “in a world where” worldbuilding alterations like A/B/O; canon divergence, on the other hand, is great)

Duolingo Welsh Course

Characters: Any (Sioned, Owen, Megan, Dylan)

I saw this in the tagset and immediately loved the idea of it. I’ve dabbled with Duolingo in general and this course specifically, and I love all the wacky scenarios that Duolingo gives you to translate. (The site wtfduolingo gives a lot of examples here, and just searching for images for “welsh phrases Duolingo” can get you things like “do you like the tiger in the office?”).

Basically, take a wild sentence and run with it! If Owen’s nightclub is selling parsnips, how’s business going? Did they expand the business to Antarctica and that’s why Owen is there eating parsnips? Do they others have to confront the dragon that ate Owen? Why is there a tiger in the office, and do the other characters have to try to get it out? Why is the world of Welsh Duolingo so obsessed with parsnips, anyway?

If you want to write it in Welsh, I would be thrilled to see it, but I’m definitely not fluent and would be fine with including an English translation.

The Great Escape

Characters: Colin Blythe, Bob Hendley

Blythe and Hendley have one of my favorite relationships in this movie that is full of good relationships. They’re such different people - the quiet and fussy master forger and the charismatic con man - but they genuinely enjoy each other’s company and develop a strong bond. Hendley looks out for Blythe for everything, from scrounging up milk for his tea to being his guide in the escape even at great risk to himself (”Colin’s not a blind man as long as he’s with me. And he’s going with me” - he’s so adamant about it!). Anything for them and their relationship, from friendship to romantic love, would be awesome. I also love all of the details that went into the escape, the clever ways they evaded detection and planned out how they’d blend in and survive in enemy territory until they could get to safety.

More canon-typical moments between them in the camp would be great - playing chess with each other, Colin teaching Hendley about birds, Hendley getting Blythe’s help on conning the guards in a similar way to how he conned Werner “The Ferret”. I’d also love to see them actually make it to Switzerland - they were so close! - and figure out what kind of relationship they want to have with each other now that they’re not in the extraordinary circumstances of a POW camp.

Mesopotamian RPF

Characters: Any (Nanni, Kurum | Mr. Shorty, Ilushu-illassu, Ea-Nasir)

Because some things never change, and complaints about terrible businessmen are one of them. Based off the famous complaint tablet (translation here) and a letter from Ea-Nasir and his colleague/accomplice Illushu-illassu to a man who sent people to intimidate him over how badly he’s running his operations (translation here), it’s a perfect setup for both comedy and suspense, depending on whether Ea-Nasir can get out of the mess he’s made and how angry his customers are at him. I’d also love seeing any historical details you find interesting about ancient Mesopotamian life, although going in a more A Knight’s Tale direction could also be a ton of fun.

Since there’s so little information about all the characters involved, there are a lot of fun blank spaces to fill. How did Ea-Nasir and Ilushu-illassu get into business together? Were they equal partners in terrible copper, or did Ilushu-illassu just follow Ea-Nasir’s lead, or was Ilushu-illassu the voice of reason that never, ever got listened to? Did Nanni ever get his financial capital back, possibly by teaming up with Shumun-libshi and the Zabardabbû, or did Ea-Nasir evade him? I love that the guy who came to intimidate him was literally Mr. Shorty, like somebody out of a gangster movie - what’s his story?  

Epistolary fic and other in-universe documents would also be wonderful for this. And honestly, if you want to write it in cuneiform I would be beyond happy to see it, although I’d also like an accompanying translation in English.

Sainsbury’s “1914″ Commercial

Characters: Jim, Otto

It's sweet, it's seasonally appropriate, and there's a ton of potential in the relationship between Jim and Otto, two soldiers (British and German respectively) who cross into no-man's-land to spark off a fictionalized version of the historic 1914 Christmas truce in World War I. I love them both taking this enormous chance to connect with each other and give both sides a respite from the fighting. Despite all the odds against them, despite them technically being enemies, they develop a genuine friendship (and maybe fall a bit in love?) over the time of the truce, and the commercial leans hard into the idea of shared humanity in a way that I find lovely.

Any moment between them during the truce would be good - Jim and Otto are shown having spent some time talking, despite the language barrier, and I’d enjoy them sharing stories and maybe teaching each other some of their own languages. I also really liked the part in the beginning where the British and German soldiers heard each other singing carols in their respective trenches, and I’d like it if Jim and Otto found some subtle way to communicate and make sure the other is all right even after the fighting starts again. Finally, I’d love seeing Jim and Otto find each other after the war and building up their relationship from there, with that good moment between them despite all the horrors they saw in combat.

‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore

Characters: Annabella, Giovanni

Note: my non-canonical requested character death DNW does not apply here specifically for Giovanni. Feel free to kill him off if it makes sense for the story. For Annabella, I prefer either her canonical death or letting her survive. 

Throughout the play Annabella and Giovanni’s love is portrayed as a force beyond either of their control - they might regret specific actions taken, but their passion for each other is itself something that never abates. I also find it fascinating seeing both their similarities and their differences in the way they react to that love - they’re both quick-witted, both agree to “love me or kill me” and they both enter a relationship in mutual overwhelming desire, but Annabella as a woman has to navigate different social standards with far fewer options than Giovanni does, and it is she who is condemned in-universe as the titular “whore”. It’s a good set-up for both conflict within the relationship and conflict between the united couple and the outside world.

Pre-canon moments would be great here - by the time the play starts they already know that they desire each other, but was there a specific moment of revelation that happened pre-canon or was it a slow buildup that felt so natural to them that they didn’t even know when their love went beyond familial? And despite the play being built on the tragedy of inevitably doomed passion, I’d also welcome canon divergences where they’re a little less doomed, or at least doomed in a different way. What could have happened if Soranzo had not discovered the affair during the canon timeline? Annabella and Giovanni might have been able to keep it a secret, but social pressures + Giovanni’s possessiveness would have made it difficult, especially if and when Giovanni learns that Annabella’s child is his.

1. What’s one thing that’s happened to you that has made you a stronger person?
• I'm not sure, honestly. I was in a severely abusive relationship for well over 4 years, ending in January when he was incarcerated for brutally beating me, raping me, & attacking me, all with our two children present. Our 5 year anniversary would be in a few days, the 28th. 😐 Truthfully, I don't know if I'm stronger, but I definitely know that I'll never tolerate anything like that again. Never. 2. What’s one thing that’s happened to you in your life that made you feel weak?
• being abused over & over again, physically, emotionally, sexually. All in front of my children. I feel pathetic, weak, & disgusted with myself to have kept taking him back.. 3. Where is one place you feel most like yourself?
• uh, well. I don't know. I feel trapped in the house I live in with my parents & 2 kids, but that's because of what Luis did to me in my very bedroom - on my bed - and in my kitchen + living room. I feel HAPPIEST at the park or library with the kiddos. Or outside in general. 4. Where is your favorite place to escape to?

top 5 villains

You know, the thing about villains, that I have learned through many years of skimming fandom, is that I am bizarrely short of villain stanning. I should have a long list of villains I like. And yet.

I like plenty of characters who are very much not good people, and very much antagonists. But it’s the chaos that’s essential, there. My favorite member of the villain squad is the nuisance who’s just hanging out enjoying being their worst self.

A top villain should be, like. Threatening. To be at the top, they should be adhering to their own agenda, and that agenda shouldn’t be the level of a side quest in the main story. The plot should turn on their ambition just as much as it does for the heroes.

Their reign should be both devastating and entertaining. Bring some style to it. It’s not about being an obstacle for the good guys, it’s about winning.

How many of the following truly check off all those marks is up for debate, but I think they’ve at least got the vibes.

The Locked Tomb, specifically Gideon the Ninth

Cytherea Loveday

She probably shouldn’t be on this list. Yes, that’s how we’re starting out. Not that she isn’t a villain, and not that she isn’t threatening, and --

Look. She’s on the list. More because I like her and she happens to be a villain than me liking her because she’s a villain, but as villains go, she is, as the kids say, a fave.

The living embodiment of, “I came out to attack people and I’m having such a good time right now.” She is the main villain of the first book, and she spends most of the time that we see her lounging in gardens and batting her eyes at her boss’ daughter. She basically treats her murder spree as a company-sponsored tropical vacation. She impersonates her first victim, puppets said first victim’s closest companion’s corpse around (yes the corpse is also her responsibility, and yes she may have stuffed FV’s corpse in around it what of it), kills children, kills a married couple enjoying their anniversary, doesn’t kill the main character because the main character is easy on the eyes (it is slightly more complicated than that but if you want a good story you can read the book), and even when she dies she’s getting something she wants.

(Neglected wants include murdering God.)

Essentially, she’s dreamy. Don’t @ me.

Madoka Magica: Rebellion

Kyubey

Specifying the movie and not picking Homura. I’m great at this.

The reason is actually very simple.

In the movie, Kyubey filled me with hatred. In the series, it’s more of a, ‘lol, you scamp, helping move the plot along’ annoyance at best. I don’t really mind the evil alien bunny ferret in the series. Obviously it’s a bit of a dick, but Kyubey feels like a product of the evil system more than actually being a villain.

Enter the movie.

Enter (irrational levels of?) rage.

Kyubey, in Madoka’s new world, operates with less gains than the witch system provided. The system still functions, but the Incubators could be more fulfilled by it, so it’s like -- ‘can has throne of madokami? kthx start the torture back up.’

Again, Kyubey is a product of the evil system. But the evil system that Madoka defeated. She won, and here Kyubey is, trying to start the game all over and break everything she fixed (arguably succeeding in the case of Homura). The injustice of it all made me actively angry at Kyubey in a way that I seldom experience towards fictional characters. The system was dead, and it had no business trying to come back. Kill it, kill it good, and don’t leave a body behind to bury, because fuck the system.

Then Homura’s treatment of Kyubey at the end disturbed me enough that I can’t actually stomach a manifestation of my dislike for our favorite alien cat marshmallow, but for the strength of reaction Kyubey inspired, we have our second spot on the list.

Rurouni Kenshin

Makoto Shishio

Obligatory mention that all the decent people in this series would punch their author in the face at bare minimum.

Shishio is probably the closest embodiment of the ideal villain talked out above the cut. He has goals. He has a life outside the hero. He’s initially only mildly interested in including the hero in that life. He’s out to rule the country and bathe the current government in blood, and doing it in style is a very cool side effect.

The guy’s set on fire by his own side because they’re terrified of his power. He is the nightmare created by people who put down a road to Hell brick by brick with their maybe good intentions. Along the way they meet a demon, and up until the threat of his power becomes too great, they happily embrace his skills.

Upon his recovery, all he’s really about is proving that they were right to be terrified, and they also should have done a better job with their murder, because guess who’s alive, bitch.

The strong live, and the weak die. Makoto Shishio is alive to remind the government that they are weak, and he will feed on them.

He has an army, he has followers, and he balances all of their motivations so that they are acting only in his favor. Hatred, admiration, or loyalty, it’s all a tool. He kills the woman he loves to win a fight, and she dies grateful for it.

Terrible person. Beautiful conviction. He dies without once faltering in his philosophy and power. He is a force.

Bonus points for being voiced by Steve Blum in the anime.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)

Horde Prime

This is the part of the list where I start having a little bit of trouble. I mean. The first entry is also that, but Horde Prime is here because I looked at my standards and shouted into the void of my mental file cabinet, “is anyone in here like that?”

Horde Prime is here because he is scary as fuck. He’s a genocidal religious cult leader, and the cult members being clones of him does not mean he plans on being nice. He will put on a polite smile and sink his claws into your throat if you so much as think of being a creature beyond his might.

He is the epitome of a Saturday morning cartoon villain, but in the best way. He doesn’t have a positive motive outside of his own ego. He’s power-hungry and arrogant, and the entitlement oozes off him in any scene where he deigns to interact with people. He is a monster. A veneer of civility can be draped over it all if he’s in the mood, but the universe is his, and he will destroy as much of it as he pleases until it catches up and starts bowing down.

I want to have fun hating villains, and Horde Prime is delightful to hate.

He’s evil and has stage presence. Thank you, sir, your descent into Hell will be witnessed with great satisfaction.

Worth noting that his voice actor, Keston John, is a huge part of that stage presence, and does phenomenal work as his voice.

Rurouni Kenshin

Yukishiro Enishi

Enishi would do so much more than punch his author in the face, because he’s an awful human being, but an awful human being with one very clear, obsessive stance.

Yes, I wrote Enishi’s name with the family name first and Shishio’s with the family name second. Yes, this is because Kenshin going “Makoto Shishio” in the anime dub is burned into my brain, and Enishi doesn’t have that going on. My list, my bad choices.

First, it must be said: COOLEST CHARACTER DESIGN OF THE LIST. FASHION GOALS. FITNESS GOALS. REALLY FUCKING COOL SWORD. REALLY FUCKING COOL FIGHTING STYLE. BADASS TRANSFORMATION THAT PROBABLY MAKES ANYONE WITH BASIC BIOLOGY UNDERSTANDINGS WINCE.

What a dick.

Here’s the deal.

Kenshin killed his sister.

Enishi will make Kenshin suffer.

Here is the nuance that Enishi can’t grasp until the end.

His sister loved Kenshin. Her death was a horrific accident, partially set up by both her and her brother attempting to arrange Kenshin’s death (one of them changed their mind).

For the hero of the story, Yukishiro Tomoe is a gaping, open wound across his face. It is his greatest failure. There is no part of him not aching with guilt and remorse over her death. There is only pain, and the reminder of it threatens to drown him.

For the villain of the story, there is only one response to that: Good.

It is not enough for Enishi that the man he hates dies. Enishi wants to rip Kenshin’s heart out of his chest and leave it beating in a field of salt and glass. He wants to destroy any shred of life Kenshin has found without his sister, and he wants Kenshin to know that all of this destruction is his fault.

What Enishi wants is the hero’s complete and utter annihilation. His soul deadened, and his suffering infinite.

Obsessive hate to the extent that Enishi feels is just... impressive as hell. His view of the world is black and white to the extreme, and he will make that our hero’s problem. He will not doubt himself except to wonder if keeping Kenshin alive to suffer is a misstep. Enishi is angry, traumatized, and quite often a fucking asshole whose emotional development ceased as a child. Where he was also a little jerk, but you could try to imagine a world where maybe he didn’t bite people if you wanted to be optimistic.
