So by the end of Radiant Dawn every armor knight gets all three weapon triangle weapons, and Gatrie specifically goes from grabbing swords as a general in PoR to having axes as secondary in RD, meaning he gets all 3 for sure. Gave him a bow weakness since that’ll be the only weapon he doesn’t get, plus it lets him contrast Shinon who he pairs up with a lot. The reason weakness is him being a bit clueless, especially when it comes to women. Arts were interesting, Gatrie has odd stats for an armor knight in that he has decent skill and really good speed in RD along with solid defense and strength. As such I went ahead and gave him a full spread of the arts that add a second attribute to damage to go with how well rounded his stats are. The single A level sword art also references how he always gets swords only once he’s promoted. Spells are basic, lightning for his affinity and a big heal. And that’s my first one of the year apparently, damn really slept on this for a minute huh?

Ggggahhhhhhh this creative block is eating me aliiiiive

When I’m writing fanfic ? Writing is a breeze !! It’s fun !! The word count is naturally longer! But the moment I go into official work, it’s like wading through cement to get 500 words ):

Worried I’m back to where I was with one of my other stories: writing the first draft and then completing losing all energy for the story and reaching creative crisis.

It’s probably all the stress I’ve been putting on it, but I have noooo idea how to relax or what’s truly wrong?? Or the stuff I do know about, there’s not really any fixing it ??? It’s just how it is. And the more I cant write the more panicked I am gggoshhhh someone toss me into the sun

Now, to be fair

I really liked the Rabbit’s design (until the reveal that he’s some tortured human soul that just wants to help the itty bitty poor demons)

I didn’t hate the artwork

I actually quite liked the.. well.. they’re bit easter eggs… but like.. showing the Kalina Ann (and then underutilising it.. not having Mary having ANY connection to the weapon…) but these little inclusions were FUN and it was fun looking for them. Why the Mega Man cameo though?

Onto the REST

Why, oh WHY did the demons have to get a society with poor downtrodden souls that get victimised by Mundus? Demons are demons. It’s fun to slaughter them in the game because they are inherently and irrevocably EVIL. They. Are. Supposed. To. Be. The. BAD GUYS!!

Why did the story need to have a religious fanatic as the ACTUAL MAIN ANTAGONIST WHEN THE RABBIT WAS RIGHT THERE? What choice was that? Why????

They introduced a compelling and interesting villain by adding the Rabbit (love the design!), especially when they chose to not have him be Mary’s father. And then they absolutely BOTCHED IT by making him into some jaded martyr with a god complex.

I cannot repeat this enough. They added an additional villain by including a religious, purist, colonialist dipshit that then magically invades the demon world and promptly begins a genocide against the (mostly) benign (again wtf) residents. Only to build a giant prison and a massive dig site to extract.. I assume some form of ore, it really doesn’t matter. It’s just so fucking on the nose it’s not even remotely interesting, witty or funny.. nothing about this is entertaining. At best it’s mildly annoying. At worst it’s infuriating and tone deaf to the CURRENT GLOBAL SITUATION WITHOUT ANY FINESSE!!

The music choice is godawful in 90% of cases. Not because I dislike the songs (I actually do like the ORIGINAL soundtracks as well as the songs they used because I’m just that kind of trash Millennial) but the chosen songs & timing was just… No! The fact that they DARED to bring in Bury the Light (and fucking butchered it) at the end is just… the AUDACITY!

How the fck did Vergil just… drop the Nelo Angelo armour which Mundus USES TO CONTROL HIM. And simultaneously he still has ALL MEMORIES KNOWING EXACTLY WHO HE IS? And.. AND HELPS MUNDUS DESPITE THAT KNOWLEDGE!

Why is Dante so.. weak? Don’t get me wrong, it’s ok to balance out a basically insanely OP character.. but Lady had him by the balls most of the season, overpowered or outsmarted him MULTIPLE TIMES and then.. And THEN! He ends up in some cryo chamber lab container in a military facility completely helpless.

I didn’t mind that they gave Lady a more fleshed out background. Heck, I didn’t even mind that they switched Arkham with the Rabbit. At its core, that wasn’t a bad choice. But just as with the Rabbit, they botched the hell out of her character. Just looking at DMC3, Lady grows from meeting Dante. She would never have handed him over to the military. Most of the story sets her up to be this strong, independently thinking power house… and then she just… loses all of that to obey an order? And order which she should have fundamentally disagreed with? But what’s character consistency anyway…

The animation was - not surprisingly - inconsistent as fuck. The lesser demons (the evil variety) were kinda ok. Some of the mini bosses were almost interesting, although it was jarring to see Agni and Rudra with heads….. IT’S THE SWORDS THAT TALK FOR FUCK’S SAKE!! But towards the end? When they actually open the portal to hell (kinda) and all those biiig baaad demons pour forth? They’re so. Boring!!

Honesly, I don’t know where I was/ an going with this.. I’m just pissed I guess.

I wouldn’t have gotten as mad if that stupid VP would have died horribly at the end of the season. Instead they shoehorned in a last minute sneak preview of an additional villain, which means season 2 is going to focus on that asshole instead of murdering the VP.

And while I love the original Vergil, I was never on his side in the games. He’s the bad guy and you feel mostly righteous about defeating him over and over again. After finishing this insult to the DMC franchise I am rooting for MUNDUS just so I can see the VP being ripped to shreds.

On that note.. the VP managed to invade Hell, set up a dig site and a prison… and I guess Mundus just watched him do it while getting his nails painted or something?

Mundus is as close to invincible as you can get from a boss in DMC… but apparently he doesn’t give a shit about the puny humans encroaching on his territory. Make it make sense!!
