My obligatory-childhood-interest was natural disasters, especially like earthquakes and volcanos (and by extension: plate tectonics) but also severe weather and whatnot as well. I read every book in my elementary school library about Pompeii more than once (it was only like....4 books but still!), I used to watch The Weather Channel all the time for their shows about big storms and disasters, etc.. I even had a little container of volcanic ash from Mount St Helens that my mom found at a thrift store
Anyway I am a fraud actually because somehow I only just learned there are volcanos in Arizona. And like sure they haven't erupted in a very, very long time and I've never even been to that part of the US at all, but it's still volcanos in Arizona. Pour one out for 8y/o me, she would have been loved to know that lol
