When I'm just skimming through tumblr posts, I occasionally wonder why you post about people writing fic for the National Health Service, and why anyone on this Earth would feel the need to take to AO3 to express their love/frustration for said National Health Service. And then I remember that the majority of humanity is not in the UK, and that NHS is also a series acronym.

I personally feel this kind of “wait, what?” reaction adds a lil spice to the internet experience.

#I experience it daily #I work for an organization that is so routinely swimming in alphabet soup #that about a week into my job someone kindly printed me a copy of an org-specific acronym guide she’d started maintaining for herself #because she’d worked there for several years and she couldn’t keep track of it herself #I have also experienced the mind-bending cognitive dissonance of a familiar acronym with a bizarrely different meaning #I will cop to being one of the people who actually nicknames Nie Huaisang Our Little National Health Service #even though it’s not my national health service (sob)#why? well because it is funny and I like wordplay and stuff
