Not sure how I got from, "I just smacked my elbow and jokingly want to make a fic segment out of it," to, "Extremely weird classic/corny sci-fi horror story on planet of alien skeletons," but here we are.

The Muses
For @ficwritersweek! (yeah yeah I know I said I’d only do day 1, but it turns out I can post for most of the days, so deal)
Ahh, fic extras! You know, there are so many things I could do for this entry. But a lot of it would be really spoilery (because they’re all still in-progress), so I’m gonna take this moment to share my playlists!
Music is a big part of how I write, and to help me maintain focus with so many WIPs going at once, I try and make different playlists for each, so I can recreate my mental state and stay on track (because what is consistent tone, right?)
I started out using Soundcloud, buuuut in recent months some of those tracks have been clipped behind a paywall unless I fork out, and I made the switch to Spotify. Mostly I have all of these tracks on my own computer, but I find that it’s easier to use a streaming site for playlists because I can log into them through my laptop and listen even when I’m away from home. So you can find them all below the cut, along with a bit of worldbuilding for two of my main AUs - Hope’s Fire for my Digimon fics, and the Triffid AU for my Haikyuu ones!
Digimon Playlists
First up is Hope’s Fire! The second track on this playlist is the song I had on repeat when I first got the idea for the story, so it’s definitely fundamental. The rest fit the mood of various arcs of the story, albeit not in any particular order
Next we have Trinacriform. This one is interesting, because unlike with HF, I was more or less attempting to recreate a playlist I have on my computer, rather than just putting together tracks I could write to. The original is called Melancholia and is much longer than this, but Soundcloud didn’t have half the things I wanted to add. Song of note is ‘Stay in the Dark’, which I played on repeat for two hours while writing chapter thirteen of Renascent, just to get that proper angsty mood.
By the time I started writing Haikyuu!! fics I’d halfway switched to putting all my music into a giant, 70-hour playlist on shuffle and just getting on with it, but I like my fic-specific lists, so I wanted to capture the feeling of them somehow. With Soundcloud clipping some tracks down to 30-second previews, and region-locking others altogether, I moved over to spotify (because I can’t find half the songs on YouTube. Sorry). You need an account to listen, unfortunately, but you don’t have to pay.
Haikyuu!! Playlists (Spotify)
First we have Dangers Unseen! Okay I was slightly, halfway trolling when I made this playlist, deliberately picking tracks which were particularly ironic - so long as they fitted the mood. But yeah. That’s why there’s so many about eyes or light, in a story featuring most of the world going blind.
And finally, Until We Move On. I left this one til last, because although I started it before the DU playlist, this is the only one which I would class an actual soundtrack. Unlike my other playlists, I deliberately arranged the songs in this playlist to more or less reflect the story itself, playing out the highs and lows. You If you listen and somehow manage to time it right (kinda impossible due to the song lengths), you could read along and have it mostly match up with the fic itself. When I finish it, that is.
Bonus features! It’s been a long time since I updated either of these fics (thanks, deadlines), so I wanted to throw out some worldbuilding for my wonderful, patient readers who’ve stuck with me.
HF is tricky, because a lot of the worldbuilding is inherently spoilery (still! Holy crap I can’t believe we’re 130k in and most of this stuff would be new!), but I figure what the heck. I have so much worldbuilding which I’ve never been able to share, so here’s a snippet. CW for strong language, because that’s...sorta how I write:
...you probably don’t need to know just how much longer that little worldbuilding document goes on. And then there’s the prophecy, and information about the major groups of people, and OC bios, and lists of creatures I have/plan to include... Seriously. No one need fear that I’m gonna abandon this fic. It’s too big for that.
Moving on to the Triffid AU! Once again I have stacks of planning notes for this series, most of which would be horribly spoilery. So for now let me share a little bit of the backdrop to the setting. Once again a CW for strong language, because I tend to use the f-word as an adjective when I plan. It’s not directed at anyone, I swear.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading! (Dear god this is a long-ass post.)
#ficwritersweek#Day 2#Digimon#haikyuu!!#I have other playlists as well#but I figured this was long enough already#I get a little overboard with my writing and planning#I have planning notes like this for all of my longfics too
