The Archon's Baby - Chapter 1 - Not Getting Better
Next Chapter
request from ao3: Make one where they have a child but the female character doesn't tell Mavuika that she is expecting a child and distances herself from Mavuika please šŸ™šŸ™
content warnings: pregnancy, pregnant!reader, vomit, no smut, possible character death, 5.0 and 5.1 genshin spoilers, starts pre-5.0
Fic under the cut, don't repost my stuff on other platforms, i have ao3. Reader is not the traveller. Reader's adoptive sisters are Chasca and Chuychu but Reader might not be from Natlan - who knows?
Originally, you thought it was some form of abyss corruption, or even food poisoning causing you to be so unwell. It started so sudden, but you could also blame your sister's cookingā€¦
The fatigue was annoying, but the nausea? Even if you wanted to hide it, you couldn't. Mavuika was hurrying over to you the morning it began and each morning since then, finding you sitting on the floor next to the toilet.
"You were uninjured against the abyss during the attack the other dayā€¦" Mavuika's fingers hooked under your chin, looking over your face for any signs of abyssal corruption. She had done this every morning, finding nothing but a tiredness in your eyes and your skin clammy.
"Chuychu checked me over after that attack, any abyssal corruption would have been dealt with thenā€¦ probably just food poisoning or somethingā€¦" you leaned into her touch as she helped you back to bed.
"Stillā€¦" Mavuika frowned, wishing she could stay with you today, but she was busy due to the upcoming Pilgrimage. As the archon, she would need to attend. It wasn't often she had a lot of time for you, but you two made as much time as you could for each otherā€¦
"You should see what Chuychu thinks. You're not getting any better, and I'm worried." Mavuika sighed as she gently brushed your cheek with her thumb.
"I haven't told anyone about usā€¦" you confessed, sitting up carefully to try avoid the nausea getting any worse, "have you?"
"Not when you're not ready, and that's okay. We can tell people when you're ready. I have a meeting with Citlali, so I'll see you later?" your lover asked, pressing a kiss to your forehead as you hummed.
You remained there as you watched her head out before anyone else was awake, before anyone knew she had stayed over in your bed, instead of her own.
You weren't sure how anyone would react to you dating the pyro archon. Mavuika was human, but still, she was Natlan's archon first, your relationship with her came second. Plus, the two who had become your sistersā€¦ they would be in for a shock.
///
Eventually, you got ready for the day. You had to meet your sister to head out to the Stadium of the Scared Flame together, but the nausea was rearing its angry head.
"Okay, what's going on?" Chasca frowned in concern, wrapping her arm around you as you leaned into her with a grimace.
"Just feel like crap. Have you seen Chuychu today?" closing your eyes to try focus on your breathing, your sister guided you over to a rock to sit down. The two of you were supposed to be at the stadium now to sort things out for the upcoming Pilgrimage.
"Let's get you to her for a check-up, you look like you're about to-" Chasca was cut off as by your retching, "too lateā€¦" she muttered, rubbing circles in your back to soothe you.
"Do you think she'll yell at me?" you whispered as your sister helped you walk towards the stadium, where your other sister should be, doing her own prep for the Pilgrimage.
"Yell at you? For food poisoning, or the flu, or whatever you have? It doesn't seem like abyssal corruption butā€¦ she shouldn't yell at you for that, only for not going to her sooner." Chasca replied, holding back her smile as you groaned. You hated when Chuychu argued with either of you.
///
"What are you two doing here?" Chuychu raised an eyebrow as she found the two of you sat outside of the stadium, your head in Chasca's lap as she drew patterns in your scalp.
"Hiā€¦" you opened your eyes briefly to acknowledge your sister.
"I think a check-up is neededā€¦" Chasca admitted, gesturing to you but the fatigue was beginning to get the better of you as you let out a soft yawn.
"Let's go inside. Can you stand?" Chuychu's face softened immediately, moving to assist Chasca to get you inside.
///
"So, we can rule out abyssal contamination but I still have some questions for you, but firstā€¦ Chasca, do you have to stand over there watching us like a hawk?" Chuychu sighed, gesturing for Chasca to sit with you instead of watching from the corner.
"If its not abyssal contamination, isn't it just food poisoning or the flu- it's nothing serious, right Chuychu?" Chasca asked, taking a seat next to you as you sipped the water you had been given.
"Your symptoms are similar to food poisoning, butā€¦ how long did you say you've been feeling like this?" Chuychu enquired, frowning to herself as she began to put the pieces together.
"I don't know, more than four daysā€¦ maybe a week? I don't really rememberā€¦" you trailed off, feeling your sister tense next to you as you bit your lip. Mavuika would remember, but she wasn't here. She couldn't be, even if she wasn't busy, it would be too suspicious.
"You've been sick for a week and we're just hearing about this now? You really are the limit sometimesā€¦" Chuychu huffed, but you didn't respond, avoiding her gaze like a scolded child.
"I don't know, sometimes I'd just feel rubbish in the morning but feel better later." You tried to defend yourself, but in the end, it led your sisters to more questions.
"In the morningā€¦" Chasca frowned, looking at you with a careful eye that had you shifting uncomfortably.
"Okayā€¦ that explains a lotā€¦" Chuychu nodded, observing you a little longer before she spoke, "now for the tough questions. When was your last period?"
"Why?"
"Now is not the time to get defensiveā€¦" Chasca replied to your sharp tone.
"Is there any chance you could be pregnant?" Chuychu waited, but your sisters voices shifted into a high pitched ringing...

Hello it's last anon thank you for letting me give a prompt
So I really liked your pairing of LQR/WRH/Lao Nie and after seeing wwx's parents in the last episode of the donghua it got me thinking, How about WRH/WCZ/CSSR? WRH maybe saves them in yiling and they end up hitting it off (WRH might do it in the beginning just spite jfm by stealing his former best friend and crush) and the Wei family settles in nightless city, wwx grows up with the Wen heirs and wen Qing and wen Ning and that affects the events of Canon
(I wouldn't mind smut tbh if you want to include it, they're all hotties lol)
Thank you so much for letting me send a prompt šŸ™šŸ˜ā¤ļø
ao3
ā€œI donā€™t suppose you can help with this,ā€ Wen Ruohan said to Lan Qiren, who had the unmitigated gall to look amused at him, as if heā€™d brought this disaster down on his own head or something like that. ā€œArenā€™t you supposed to be friends with that awful -ā€
ā€œCangse Sanren and I are indeed good friends,ā€ Lan Qiren said peaceably and tonelessly, possibly just because he was trying to annoy Wen Ruohan to death. ā€œI am therefore very familiar with the fact that there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop her from proceeding precisely as she wishes.ā€
That was not what Wen Ruohan wanted to hear.
ā€œYouā€™re her friend,ā€ he said, deciding to focus on the important part. ā€œTake her away.ā€
ā€œYouā€™re the sect leader of the Nightless City,ā€ Lan Qiren rebutted. ā€œOrder her to leave.ā€
Wen Ruohan couldnā€™t do that.
Well, he could. By all rights, he ought to have done it a month ago, when Cangse Sanren had first marched into the Fire Palace and said, ā€œOh, this will work perfectly! I love it, youā€™re so thoughtful!ā€ and started rearranging the entire place into some sort of workshop for herself, possibly involving grain storage. Heā€™d meant to, but heā€™d been a bit distracted at the time ā€“ Wei Changze had wanted to know what all the machines did, and heā€™d had an endless number of clever ideas on how some of them could be repurposed for things other than torture, some of which had been really very intriguing.
Anyway, it wasnā€™t as if Wen Ruohan had time to attend torture sessions any more, not with three loudly yelling children running around all the time. Wei Wuxian might be the youngest of the lot, with both Wen Xu and Wen Chao as his elders, but heā€™d managed in a very short amount of time to make himself the undoubted leader of the pack and spoiled beloved youngest all at the same time. There had even been avid discussions about how they would need to bring other children over to visit in order to better socialize the children. Heā€™d already summoned some cousins over, Wen Qing and Wen Ning, which meant that soon there would be even more childrenā€¦
It was a headache, really.
Absolutely.
Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren were driving him up the wall.
They were also regular visitors in his bed, something that would very likely rapidly stop being the case if he actually kicked them out of the Nightless City.
ā€œThis oneā€™s on you, Hanhan,ā€ Lao Nie put in, grinning wildly at him. Now there was one that was completely unmoved by the news of Wen Ruohanā€™s new relationship ā€“ everyone else had reacted, whether by Jiang Fengmianā€™s profound embarrassment, raging jealousy, and quiet fury, Jin Guangshan very obviously trying to calculate some way of using this to his advantage, and Lan Qiren immediately going over to question his friendsā€™ sanity ā€“ and that was pretty annoying in its own way. After all, Wen Ruohan had really only invited the two rogue cultivators into his bed in the first place as a matter of spite, a way of excising his rage when heā€™d heard the rumors about Lao Nie potentially taking on a third wife.
He hadnā€™t expected them to stay.
He hadnā€™t expected to want them to stay.
Which he didnā€™t! They were a mess, each one worse than the next ā€“ Cangse Sanren was barely human most days, like some sort of feral demonic beast that had accidentally achieved human form and continuously forgot (thanks to her prodigiously bad memory) that she was supposed to be pretending to be normal, and Wei Changze was remarkably similar to Lao Nie in the sense that heā€™d never taken anything seriously in his life, except for the fact that his humor was lighthearted and unleavened by the hints of trauma and tragedy that lurked behind Lao Nieā€™s unbridled hedonism. There wasnā€™t anything that he wouldnā€™t let slide off his shoulders, forgetting a beating as soon as it was overā€¦Wei Changze might be a lot less vicious than Lao Nie was, but he was reckless to the extreme, in a way that made absolutely no sense. Wasnā€™t he supposed to be a servant? What was he doing rushing out into the field with a sword and smile and absolutely no advance planning whatsoever? Even Lao Nie wouldnā€™t do that!
Anyway, they were a handful.
They were maddening.
They were the most interesting thing that had happened to Wen Ruohan in years.
ā€œYour input is not required,ā€ Wen Ruohan informed Lao Nie, who shrugged expansively. ā€œUnless you have something constructive to add.ā€
ā€œNo, no, nothing constructive, you know me, Iā€™m not built for thatā€¦but Iā€™m glad that youā€™re happy.ā€
Wen Ruohan stopped where he was.
ā€œIā€™m not right for you,ā€ Lao Nie said, and even though he was still smiling, same as always, there was something sharp in his eyes ā€“ the same sharpness that had caught Wen Ruohanā€™s interest in the first place, like a beautiful dagger that you longed to touch even though you knew its biting edge might cut. ā€œYou know, I know, even Qiren knows itā€¦youā€™re happy now, and thatā€™s good. Thatā€™s all I wanted to say.ā€
Wen Ruohan wanted to say something.
Preferably something cutting, something about how it was too late for Lao Nie to regret ā€“ except he didnā€™t think Lao Nie did regret, because Lao Nie did not live a life of regret. Lao Nie had enjoyed their time together, had been as sincere and true as he was made to be and no further. But, and maybe it was because heā€™d never expected to keep Wen Ruohan for very long in the first place, heā€™d felt little sorrow at it ending, instead feeling nothing but joy on Wen Ruohanā€™s behalf at seeing him happy, even if it was with another.
Wen Ruohan didnā€™t understand that. Heā€™d always loved too fiercely, too well; heā€™d always yearned to keep that which he cared for close to him, nearby, somewhere he could protect them and keep them.
Even Lao Nieā€¦Wen Ruohan had been enticed by Lao Nieā€™s ruthlessness, his bloodthirstiness, his Nie sect temper tempered with a nasty sort of cunning that had made him remarkably successful at expanding his sectā€™s reach in the north, and heā€™d been flattered at how persistent the other man was in pursuing him. It was only later, when heā€™d gotten used to having him around, that he had started to feel jealousā€¦
ā€œTheyā€™ll be good for you,ā€ Lao Nie said. His eye twinkled. ā€œYou could use a bit of chaos in your life.ā€
Wen Ruohan shook his head. ā€œIā€™m trying to get rid of them,ā€ he protested, but even he didnā€™t believe what he was saying. ā€œTheyā€™re a menace. Especially Cangse Sanren ā€“ do you know that sheā€™s literally doomed? I swear, I spend all my trying keeping her from getting herself killedā€¦ā€
ā€œDonā€™t you enjoy defying the heavens?ā€ Lan Qiren asked, rolling his eyes as if Wen Ruohan were missing something obvious. ā€œI would have thought that someone carting around a heaven-sent calamity would be a perk for someone like you.ā€
ā€¦it rather was, wasnā€™t it?
ā€œWhatever. Fine. Leave it, Iā€™ll figure it out myself,ā€ Wen Ruohan grumbled, then turned his narrowed eyes on the two of them. ā€œNow for something you can help with: My children need more socialization or else theyā€™ll genuinely think Wei Wuxian is a good example of other children. Sect Leader Lan ā€“ youā€™re a teacher, arenā€™t youā€¦?ā€
ā€œWell, yes. But ā€“ā€
ā€œWhat a wonderful idea!ā€ Lao Nie clapped his hands together. ā€œI can send my two boys to Qiren to teach, too! And we can definitely bully Fengmian and Guangshan into sending theirs. Itā€™ll beā€¦oh, I donā€™t know. A regular summer excursion!ā€
ā€œIn my sect?ā€ Lan Qiren asked, arching his eyebrows. ā€œWhy me?ā€
ā€œBecause youā€™re a teacher, of course. Anyway, are you saying you donā€™t want Cangse Sanren to crash at your place for a few months..?ā€
ā€œSheā€™s not going anywhere,ā€ Wen Ruohan said at once. When both of them smirked at him, he scowled. ā€œEven if I wanted her too, sheā€™s not. It was a statement of fact, nothing more.ā€
ā€œThen perhaps we should all come visit the Nightless City instead,ā€ Lao Nie said. ā€œIt could be like a miniature discussion conference, except limited to the Great Sects ā€“ we could go night-hunting and such while Qiren teaches the children.ā€
Was Lao Nie proposing an orgy? Heā€™d better not be proposing an orgy, not if he genuinely intended to invite Jiang Fengmian and his wife or Jin Guangshan and his to attendā€¦
ā€œOf course, if itā€™s focused on the children, maybe the adults arenā€™t entirely necessary to invite ā€“ well, except for you, as the host, Qiren as the teacher, and me as the person who came up with the ideaā€¦ā€
Lao Nie was definitely proposing an orgy.
ā€œā€¦Iā€™ll see what Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze have to say about it,ā€ Wen Ruohan allowed. But only because he thought that it was something they would very much like, and heā€™d been completely out of ideas on what he could get a couple as notoriously disinterested in material goods as a courting gift ā€“ he hated not being capable, thatā€™s all it was. There was no other reason than that! ā€œWeā€™ll see.ā€
ā€œDid I agree to this?ā€ Lan Qiren asked, frowning. ā€œWhen did I agree to this ā€“ā€
ā€œYou canā€™t say no,ā€ Wen Ruohan said. ā€œIā€™ll set Cangse Sanren on you if you do.ā€
ā€œā€¦I see that Iā€™ve agreed to this.ā€
Lao Nie laughed, Lan Qiren sighed, and Wen Ruohanā€¦
Wen Ruohan resigned himself to keeping Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze around a little longer.
Just a little.

Hellooo I have come from AO3 to say Many Things!!! About Cracked Snowglobes!!
But now i'm unsure where to even begin with the gushing because chapter 4 has left me CLIMBING the walls, hanging upside down from my ceiling, HOWLING because good cod !!!!! Intense argument after intense emotional moment after brief humorous, hopeful breath of air, thEN MORE INTENSE CONFLICT--
I was positively SHAKING in bed when i read it last night, it left me IN SHAMBLES (ā ā•Æā Ā°ā ā–”ā Ā°ā ļ¼‰ā ā•Æā ļøµā Ā ā ā”»ā ā”ā ā”»
I've been meaning to comment in more detail on every chapter, and just list up everything little detail and exchange i love, but after the current chapter i had TO COME HERE FIRST to send an Ask!!
I am SO HAPPY to see Off the Hook and the Squid sister and Splatoon hanging out, and knowing that sweet, brave Eight is in good, caring hands now šŸ„ŗ they deserve the world, and their genuine admiration and trust in Octavio had me šŸ„¹ it was so cathartic to see Marina have the heart to heart she needed with her former leader as well, even if they don't agree with everything, Octavio's growth already showed a teeeny tiny bit in him, reluctantly, agonizingly, agreeing with Marina and making that promise to her (and by extension, to Eight and all of his people)
I don't know what you have planned for the next chapter, i know this one's gonna be tricky since it has to essentially fill in the void between game 2 and 3, but man!!! I really really really hope that, despite all of the baggage and anger and yelling, Octavio can find some solace, something to hold onto, in the genuine hope and trust that Eight, Callie, and Marina put in him, in spite (or because?) of everything šŸ™ he's gonna have another tough road ahead of him, but i believe in this stubborn, clever, spiteful old man šŸ™ he has fucked up many times before, but i believe he will try his best to keep his word, if only to not let the people down that put their trust in him (maybe that's hust me being delulu and naive tho agsjshdjfhgfd)
My god that ENDING tho!!! The leaky roof has CRASHED DOWN metaphorically, and it's really lucky that Octavio jumped the heck outta there because i would NOT want to be at the camp after all that!
There's poor Callie, probably having a small breakdown rn, and Cuttlefish, who let some /real nasty/ things slip out there (granted, that was mostly the result of being spurred on and goaded by Octavio to be his worst self, i think) that i can't rly see Marina and Eight just... overlook, tbh (especially after he also pulled that whole past identify reveal on Marina in the Metro, which could have potentially ended very, very poorly)... The mood there is probably. šŸ˜¬šŸ˜¬šŸ˜¬ Rip to the planned party šŸŽ‰
There's soooo much more i would like to say, but yeah that's gonna be probably better said in individual chapter comments, but i just HAD to get this all out!
Thank you so much for your incredible work!! The long chapters are a delight to read personally, even if they seem a bit daunting at first; since the writing and pacing is so good, it's very easy to breeze through them :D
I wish you a belated Happy New Year and lots of inspiration, motivation, and free writing time for the chapter 5, I'm super looking forward to whatever you've planned next! šŸ™ŒšŸ™āœØ
WAUUAUGHH TYSM OMGGG!! i absolutely relate on the commenting thing LOL sometimes ill spend months keeping up with a fic, only to realize later on that oh. oops i havent commented at all. i really shouldve done that! very much a regular ao3 reader thing to overlook it, so i absolutely dont blame u at all LMAO (i do look forward to the comments though, ive said this like hundreds of times it feels like already but feedback rlly is such a strong motivator when it comes to writing! very funny how reading words makes you want to make more words)
but. again. WAHHH thank you !! im glad youve been enjoying so far, and ur kind words mean so so sososo much ;_; omg
i'm very excited to get chapter 5 out to yall, but im also super excited to just like. write it in general LOL it has a LOTTTTT of stuff that i cant exactly talk about just yet, considering that it would all be spoilers for what exactly goes down, but im super hyped for it. and im the one writing it!
the only thing i can say is that, yeah youre spot on about it being tricky and having to bridge that gap! i don't have any plans to change the actual plot points that happen in the games themselves, excluding whatevers gonna happen for the s3 dlc which we essentially know uh. nothing about! we're currently still on track to be following the story modes' outlines. (but as soon as we get off of that track? hooh boy ive got some silly ideas >:))
again tho, thank you so much ik i keep saying it but. it means so much to hear how yall are liking the fic !! <3
