this is from my next work:

Two weeks after his seventeenth birthday, he goes to Olympus for the first time after the war. His father meets him at the entrance. Percy remembers the place half-razed. He tries not to think that they half-deserved it. The God of the Sea clears his throat. “I’m very glad to see you,” he says, and it seems like he means it. Or he tries to mean it. Percy has never expected Poseidon to excel at parenting, and Poseidon has never tried to surpass his expectations, because to think of water is to never think of warmth.  “You, too,” Percy says. The two of them stare at each other for a moment before Poseidon directs him toward a small, cobbled pathway.  “A new set of fountains this way,” he explains, gesturing forward, “designed by your Annabeth.” Percy’s lips quirk. Poseidon has taken to calling Annabeth your Annabeth, and whether he does this to give their relationship some tacit approval or just to assign her to Percy so as to divest her from Athena, no one but Poseidon can know.
