[taps mic] It's been said by smarter and better read individuals than me, but genuinely everyone in prison should retain the right to vote. Until it is impossible to strip anyone imprisoned of the right to vote people in power will have an incentive to imprison people, even if the prison-industrial complex is eliminated. kbai.
(and if you can vote, do it. it's a marathon not a sprint and all that jazz. actually kbai now.)
#I was reading news analysis about gerrymandering and I do get a little bit unhinged when they just. don't mention the criminal system.#as if that isn't a key aspect of much of gerrymandering.#you cannot talk about how districts are drawn without acknowledging what amount of the population is imprisoned there#and also probably how much money the representative of that district has gotten from private prison corps. it doesn't work.#literally every aspect of the prison system is fuckt but this one is particularly insidious ngl.#cuz even plenty of leftists are like 'okay but we don't want criminals to vote they'll vote badly what about the nazi mass murderers'#and like. how many of those do you think there are in the prison population. genuine question.#cuz a fuckton of people in prison right now have not been convicted of a crime.#not making this rebloggable cuz I do not have the time or energy to go find sources on this stuff rn and I'm not playing that game#but if you are at all like 'wait what' please go research it
