Last song: At the moment, I have "Losing Your Memory" by Alan Star stuck in my head, which I suppose makes it my current song, not my last song. Hm. I get songs stuck in my head very easily, but the last one I had there for a significant amount of time was a mashup of different language versions of "Les Rois du Monde" for about a week. "Lehetsz Király", the Magyar version, is probably my favorite of them. It's worth a listen.

Currently watching: Normally, the answer would be "random mostly terrible old movies/shows" or "nothing much", but I currently have a hyperfixation on the musical Roméo et Juliette and have been watching it in multiple languages. (Thus, the song).

Three ships: This is hard. Maybe as a result of being on the ace and aro spectrums, I'm more likely to care about which characters are interacting than whether it's romantic or platonic. Here goes:

Kedivere/Bedikay. It can be romantic, platonic, or queerplatonic, but whichever way, I'm here for it. I probably spend too much time thinking about how in Cullwch and Olwen, when Cai gets mad at Arthur and marches out, Bedwyr stays behind, keeps acting like nothing's happened, and isn't the one to avenge Cai's death. The feeling of betrayal on both sides has a lot of unexplored potential. And the version where Bedivere dies and Kay fights to bring his body back safely while mortally wounded himself... And the version where Bedivere survives Camlann and Kay isn't said to fight in it, so they might be left together after their world has fallen apart...

Platonically or queerplatonically, Galahad and the Grail Heroine. I really like the tragic Grail Quest friendships, but I like theirs most, maybe because there's something weird and otherworldly about them both. I like it when characters are strange and endearing and doomed by the narrative.

Ever since reading John Matthews' retelling, which I read before the original, I've had a soft spot for Caradoc and Guinier. The Story of Caradoc is very disturbing, and I have some major qualms with Caradoc over a detail Matthews cut out, but all the same, there's a reason these two have the best track record with magical fidelity tests. Each of them would go to the ends of the earth for the other, and together, they're stronger than any curse.

Favorite Color: Blue, particularly royal blue and some teals.

Currently consuming: Black licorice with chocolate.

First ship: This is a hard one, since through elementary and most of middle school, I tended to go along with whatever I thought the author's intentions were and was more likely to unship something. The first non-endgame ship I got invested in was Sonya/Nikolai in War and Peace. I didn't like Nikolai, but Sonya did, and she was my favorite character, so I wanted her to be happy. The first non-canon couple I thought was meant to be together was also in War and Peace: Marya Bolkonskaya and Julie Karagina. My eighth grade self did not think their letters could be interpreted platonically. I still don't.

Last movie: If the musical doesn't count, the last movie I watched was Quest for Camelot, which was awful. Though not Robot Monster-level bad, Robot Monster has an elegance to its simplicity which Quest for Camelot lacks.

Currently working on: Various fics, most of them Arthuriana or CotRK-related (I am woefully behind on the Badfic Bingo), and (theoretically) an epic-style poem, though I haven't gotten much of it written for quite a while now.

Eddie couldn't care less about the number of eyes that fell on him for being loud and different than everyone else in town, and Honey tried to shield herself from the eyes that peered at her being the town's sweetheart.

Yet, besides those differences, and more, the two found each other and haven’t left that feeling behind. Eddie and Honey started dating during Eddie’s second senior year and Honey’s first. They both knew of each other, of course, from being Hawkins’ freak and sweetheart. They officially met in their English class when Honey noticed Eddie looking confused while reading Catcher in the Rye, so she went over to see if she could be of any help.

“Hi,” Hones shyly said standing over the desk he sat at, “I saw that you seemed confused by the book, and was wondering if you’d like some help. Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books, I’ve read it like a million times.”

Eddie just stared at Honey as she rambled on. He took in her shy appearance as she swayed nervously with her hands linked behind her back. Eddie was mostly surprised that a girl who was dressed in a white sweater and short plaid skirt would willingly want to help him, not to mention this girl was loved by everyone in town.

“Yeah, yeah,” Eddie finally sputtered out, “I would love your help.”

Not long after that, the two began to date, and the town erupted. Everyone talked about how surprised they were about the two teens dating. No one’s opinion was split though, it was probably the first the town could agree on something, Honey was too good for that “Freak.”

The town didn’t care to get to know Honey, because if they did they’d see that she’s not that different from Eddie.

Honey loves Rock music, what else is going to tune her parents’ shouting. She also enjoyed reading The Hobbit, she and Eddie loved reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series over and over again together. While Honey didn’t know anything about Dungeons and Dragons before Eddie, she loved to listen to him talk about it and watch him play. Maybe she loved it because he loved it and would enthusiastically talk about it, or maybe because the game was actually fun.

The Dungeons and Dragons club members were very surprised when Honey showed up to one of the meetings. They heard the rumors but didn't believe them until the day they showed up to what was supposed to be a regular meeting but there Honey was all smiles and sitting comfortably on Eddie’s lap. The members were also surprised by how much patience Eddie had when teaching Honey the game. Usually, Eddie hated newbies that knew nothing, trying to play but when it came to Honey he was calm and collected, helping her every step of the way.

“Hey Eddie,” Honey unknowingly interrupted Eddie in the middle of telling another member his damage.

While everyone else froze, Eddie turned to Honey with the gentle list smile, “Yeah, babe?”

“Can you explain her powers to me again?”

Everyone assumed Eddie and Honey wouldn’t last longer than two months, but they were so wrong.

They’ve been together for three years now, Honey has graduated and is now a Junior in college while Eddie took another year to graduate High School where he met all their new friends. Eddie now works as a mechanic at a shop near Honey’s school. The two had even saved up enough money to move into an apartment and seemed like they weren’t going to be breaking up any time soon.

Honey and Eddie were happy that their place would give them space from the talk in their town but not too much that they couldn’t see friends or family. They would make the trip to visit Wayne and Honey’s siblings when they had time and would occasionally visit friends but most of the time they prioritized family. Their friends would visit them so much that they never needed to worry; especially when it came to Dustin, Steve, and Robin. Dustin practically lived with them from how often he would visit, and now that it’s his Junior year of High School all he can talk about is that once he graduated, he wants to go to the same college as Honey so they always be together.

“And then, I can get an apartment in the same building as yours so we can visit each other every day!” Dustin enthusiastically ranted.

Eddie looked over at Honey with wide eyes, while she just continued smiling. Eddie turned back to give Dustin a strained smile along with a nod, “That sounds great.”

The sarcasm was dripping off of Eddie’s extended “great” but that just went past Dustin as he continued with his plan.

“Oh, oh, even better idea. We should all move in together.”

It actually wasn’t too long after this conversation that three familiar faces became their neighbor six doors down.

Robin did attend the same college as Honey, and at first, she was just commuting but she wanted to live a shorter distance away. Robin and Vickie started looking for close apartments when Honey told her about a place that opened up in her building. One problem was that the place was a bit out of their price range and a two-bedroom. The place was really nice though and in walking distance to school so they wouldn’t have to pay for the parking pass. That’s when the third familiar face named Steve Harrington joined and now Honey and Eddie lived next to their friends.

Maybe living next to Dustin wouldn’t be so bad. Wrong!

In the morning, everyone stayed in their own apartments, giving Eddie and Honey time to enjoy each other's company. Every morning was pretty much the same for them. Honey was a big morning person, she loved to sit on the couch, placed perfectly near a window so she could watch the sun change from dark blue to orange to pink while she sipped on her Earl Grey Tea in her favorite Golden Girls mug. This gave Eddie time to sleep in because once the sun was shining Honey had nothing else to do but get Eddie up.

Eddie was not a morning person like his girlfriend but he couldn’t afford staying in bed; literally. Eddie had to be at work by nine a.m. which was luckier than the opener. Getting up at seven was made easier by the beautiful sight he saw every morning and the coffee that came with it.

Eddie stirred at the light caress he felt on his cheek, and what sounded to be an angel calling his name, “Eddie, it’s time to get up.”

When he realized what he was hearing, he scrunched his face in protest keeping his eyes shut tight trying to bring his sleep back.

“Come on, Eddie,” Honey chuckled at the cute face he made, “I’ve already let you sleep in. You’ve got to get ready for work.”

Eddie ended his protest, opening his eyes. As soon as he saw his beautiful girlfriend, a soft smile made its way on his face and to his eyes, “Good morning, beautiful.”

“Good morning, handsome.” Honey still had a hand on his cheek, stroking a thumb across his cheekbone, “I brought your coffee.”

Eddie sat up, leaning against the wall their bed was against. He reached over to the bedside table and grabbed the mug filled with coffee, taking a small sip, His face filled with disgust, pushing the mug towards Honey, “Bleh, not sweet enough.”

Honey just rolled her eyes, trying to hide the smile creeping its way onto her face. Eddie made this joke every morning; and yet, Honey never grew tired of it. Neither did Eddie, seeing the same reluctant smile turn into one of joy. So Honey did what she does every morning, and stuck her finger into his coffee.

Taking the mug back, Eddie took another sip, “That’s better.”

The two have heard everything there could be said about how they would never make it and they were too different from each other. Even though Honey continued to dress in white sweaters and Eddie in his black leather vest, the two could never be more alike or in love.

Eddie knew that, and so did the small felt box he kept stashed away.

Hi Crow! Sorry for the late ask but I'm sending you 2 stories and they're both weird for different reasons. For some backstory, Weird Shit™ has been happening to me since I was ~4. Not regularly (and I don't have any conditions where hallucinations/delusions are symptoms) but every once in a while something weird and unexplainable happens. But because of that, I have a lot of weird stories. One of the entities/phenomena that has stuck around is that something moves and finds things for me occasionally. I think that this story is one of those times.

This story happened when I was in high school and tentatively getting into witchcraft. High school wasn't a great time for me and to cope with stress I would carry around some crystals with me as worry rocks. One day I was in my favorite teacher's trailer for class and fiddling with my only piece of angelite in the pocket of my hoodie. The class ends and I leave the trailer, before realizing my hoodie has a hole in the pocket and the angelite is gone! I rush back and look around with no success before running to my next class. At this point I was pretty bummed out because I knew that I was just not going to get that angelite back. One, that class trailer was a black hole in terms of lost stuff (in the 4 years I was there that trailer was only cleaned out and sorted through once at the end of my sophomore year and it was full of lost things) so I knew I was never going to be able to find a little blue rock in there. Two, my teacher kept his room fairly dark (lamps/fairy lights instead of the overhead lights) and anyone else could've pick up that angelite and just kept it. Tldr the angelite is gone and I'm never getting it back. So I went home and then over the next few days I was able to get a new angelite that is totally different than the one I had lost because what else was I going to do?

The following week comes and as I'm grabbing something from in my bedroom before I rush onto the bus for school, with the new angelite already in my bag, I see the angelite that I had lost sitting on my made bed. I lived in a 3rd story apartment miles away from my high school and had made my bed (and hadn't noticed the rock while making the bed). When I asked my mom she had no idea what I was talking about. Anyways, I just picked up the angelite, thanked whoever brought it back, and I've had it ever since. The picture below shows the angelite that came back circled in purple with the replacement piece. I still can't explain how I got it back.

This second story happened when I was living in a (now-demolished) house when I was in middle school. The house was in an area of woods that was just...odd (we had previously lived in a different part of those woods where I saw a shadow person for the first time). The house was this big, old three story house in the woods and was always kinda dark and sleepy. Some parts of the house felt like you shouldn't go into them or like they 'belonged' to someone else (specifically, the third floor felt like being stuck with a territorial dog if you were alone) and otherwise sort of felt (to me at least) like energies or spirits would pass through every so often. I had a fair amount of one-off or random odd occurrences happening there.

On this particular night, I was staying up late waiting for my mom to come back home from her job (she was working nights) and reading/listening to music in my room. I had heard what sounded like an adult man's footsteps coming down the hall to my room. My light was off but I could see into the hallway, so I sat up thinking my mom had gotten home and checking on me. I couldn't see anything so I laid back down and the footsteps started up again. This time I noticed that whatever was walking would take a few audible steps, pause as I looked into the hall or reacted, and then start back up again. The first few times I would look, but eventually whatever was walking got past all the other rooms in that half of the hall and got to my bedroom door and I still saw nothing. At this point I'm freaking out. Then the footsteps entered my room, made their way around my bed to the opposite side of the bed, and almost walked into the middle of it? Like if it was a person it would have been standing where the middle of my bed should be. Not wanting to find out if anything else was going to happen, I ran out of my room at that point and my poor parents had to deal with a terrified 12 yo at 1 in the morning. How fun for them :)

Mod Mac here. Thought I'd finally introduce an OC I've had for a few years now.

(I can't draw, so I used this Picrew - go check it out, it's great)

Here's Maddie (short for Madeline) Masse-Moon, who would be introduced in a hypothetical continuation of the show. She's an Australian girl Mac's age who's just recently moved to the US and starts attending his school. "Cheeky" is the best word I'd use to describe her. She's mischievous, kinda has an inflated opinion of herself and can be pretty smug (as seen in the picture), is a bit of a troll and a smartass, but her heart is very much in the right place, and she's one of the most caring and loyal friends you could ask for. She's also really into rock, punk and metal music and would love to be a rock star some day.

When we'd meet Maddie, she'd be a new arrival at Mac's school, and they bond over shared interests and become fast friends. Which they both needed - not only did Maddie make his otherwise dreary days at school a little brighter, but his relationship with Bloo at this point was… not great. So having a new friend his age, who was into a lot of the same stuff he was… he needed that. And on Maddie's side, she DID have a friend back in Australia, but they had a pretty ugly falling out for reasons I'll get to in a bit. Arriving in a new country in a new school, Maddie was super nervous… but this really sweet boy she met on her first day already made her feel much better.

Now… this may be sounding like the beginning of a ship fic. And… at first, Mac DOES develop a pretty big crush on Maddie. On Valentine's Day, he buys her a box of chocolates, and presents them to her. And she's instantly super nervous and apologizes. She explains that while she's really flattered… she likes other girls. Something she's been keeping a secret, because not only was this the mid '00s (which wasn't exactly great for gay acceptance), but when her old "friend" found out she was gay, she turned on Maddie and acted like she was weird. So now Maddie was terrified that Mac would turn on her, too. But instead, Mac is SUPER apologetic and understanding, and this actually brings them even closer. (And then, Maddie was like "You know, I can't eat all these myself." So they shared the chocolates.)

And on a darker, more serious note… so, Maddie lives with her uncle and his boyfriend (and is very happily adopted). Because her parents were… pretty awful. Something Mac relates to all too well. So finding this out about each other brings them even closer together.

So over time, Mac and Maddie went from just being friends to being like brother and sister (while Frankie was like his mother figure… and much, much better than his biological mom). And Maddie soon met another sister-like friend of Mac's… Goo. Seeing as how Maddie's pretty eccentric herself, they also became fast friends… and more. So much more. A year or two ago, Mod Frankie hinted at an OC I ship Goo with… and finally, here she is.

But naturally, Maddie growing so close to Mac drew the ire of a certain jealous blue blob. Bloo hated Maddie pretty much from the beginning, and the feeling was quickly mutual. And so began a feud that often reached Invader Zim and Dib Membrane levels of hilarious pettiness, with poor Mac stuck in the middle often trying to play peacekeeper! (And in the future, myself and Mod Frankie headcanon that Bloo eventually has something of a heel realization and at least tries to be less of a dick. So he and Maddie don't hate each other anymore, but they're still not exactly friends, and they still feud - but now, it's more just because they find messing with each other fun.)

Those are the basics, but here are some more quick fun facts.

She's a major horror fan, especially of horror novels. Her favorite book - and movie is *The Shining*.

Again, she's a huge rock fan. Her favorite band is the Beatles, but some other bands she loves are the Clash, the Smiths, Alice in Chains, No Doubt, Garbage, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, the Beach Boys, Paramore, Midnight Oil, Metallica and Slayer. That said, she also loves her some pop music. Especially the Spice Girls. (She's "Cheeky Spice") Her favorite individual artists include David Bowie (her GOAT), the Beatles solo (her fave is Paul), Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears.

Her favorite song is a tossup between "Rock the Casbah" by the Clash and "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.

That box of chocolates Mac got her? It was sugar-free. Because... Maddie can't have sugar either and also goes crazy if she even gets a little bit of it. So if the both of them end up having sugar... watch out.

Of the imaginary friends, she ends up pretty tight with Coco in particular. They're both kinda crazy.

Naturally, she ends up really tight with Frankie too, and they bond over their shared love of rock music, as well as being surrogate sister and mother to Mac, respectively.

She's considerably taller than Mac… but at the same time, considerably SHORTER than Goo. To kiss, either Maddie has to stand on her tip toes, or Goo has to bend over.

She's a bit of a bully hunter. In other words, Terrence should be afraid. He should be very afraid.

This prooooobably wouldn't be featured in an actual continuation of the show (unless the age rating was higher), but she's got a pretty filthy mouth and bawdy sense of humor, even as a kid. Her favorite word is "fanny", which in Australian English, is slang for… not a fanny pack!

Despite this, she's actually really good with kids, especially Louise, who she becomes like a cool older sis to.

I'm a supporter of characters in platonic relationships having songs that are "theirs", and Mac and Maddie have two. One is "Good Night" by the Beatles (or more accurately, Ringo), which they listen to before going to bed every sleepover. The other one would be "everything i wanted" by Billie Eilish. Without going into too much detail, Mac went through a very... rough time mentally when he was a teenager. And while all of his found family were there for him, his surrogate sis Maddie was super effected seeing her brah going through that, and was by his side every step of the way. "everything i wanted" is about someone in a very dark place, but their sibling is there for them and unconditionally supportive. In the song's case it's Billie and her brother Finneas, but could apply to any pair of people in a similar situation. And yeah when Mac and Maddie heard that song years later, they were like "Yeah... this is us."

In terms of romantic songs, Maddie and Goo's song is "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys. In more recent years, they also have "Levitating" by Dua Lipa (NOT the version with DaBaby, screw that guy and his verse wasn't very good anyway). This song features "Moonlight" and "Starlight being used as pet names. Put a pin in this for later.

Maddie's nicknames for Mac include "Doc" (since again, she's a huge fan of The Shining and Mac looks an awful lot like Danny) and especially "Brah". :3

Meanwhile, Maddie's and Goo's pet names for each other are "MiMi" and "GiGi", respectively. On top of that, Maddie's uncle and dad always called her "Moonlight", which Goo also ends up calling her. And Maddie takes to calling Goo "Starlight". This brings us back to "Levitating", which they listen to and are like "... OH MY GOD"

And that's about all I've got. Except for one more thing… my headcasting for her is Melanie Zanetti. Chilli Heeler from Bluey.

Kai Kamal Huening 🐧: 02’ liner. Studying music at HYBE University. The gentlest of giants who loves collecting plushies but is a feral little beast when it comes to defending his friends. He’s Beomgyu’s roommate at the campus dorms and has known him since they were in middle school. He also can’t keep a job because he’s hella clumsy so he’s always broke and mooching off his friends, in exchange for his brain since he’s incredibly smart. By that I mean he does his friends homework in exchange for free food and them buying him things.

Kang Taehyun 🐿️: 02’ liner. Studying financing at HYBE University. Used to be apart of Minjeong’s inner circle but eventually grew tired of them and their negativity. Tried to peacefully leave the group but Minjeong wouldn’t allow him to go without a bang and did something really messed up to him, her and her other boy toys. After being exiled from that group he joined this one because despite being annoying he enjoys their company. He is a loyal and strong friend. Oh did I mention he’s a gym rat and is hot as hell? Also may or may not be a little bit in love with Y/n…

Choi Beomgyu 🐻: 01’ liner. Studying communications at HYBE University. Used to date a girl named Kim Minjeong who thinks she’s some sort of Queencard but in reality she’s just a mean girl stuck in high school. He’s recently been dumped and is a shell of who he used to be. Very much heartbroken and likes to drown himself in alcohol to heal his broken heart. He’s the definition of a green flag and the best boyfriend to ever exist but for some reason he keeps attracting girls who only want to use him. He’s also gone through another heartbreak of sorts because he found out his online bestie heedeungie aka Ethan/Evan is the guy his ex girlfriend started dating pretty much right after they broke up.

Lee Chaeryeong 🦊: 01’ liner. Studying history at HYBE University is a transfer student from JYP University. Is kind of aloof and blunt, a bit rough around the edges. Y/n’s number one best friend since they’ve known each other since grade school. Has crushes on nearly everyone/anyone including her friends at least for a couple days/weeks. Her latest crush is Choi Soobin even though he’s apart of Minjeong’s whipped goons.

Han-Y/l/n Yujin: 07’ liner. Currently a high school student in 10th grade and is apart of his school’s archery team. He’s an angsty teenager and acts like he’s grossed out by his sister Y/n and her affection but he loves it. He’s actually really protective of his sister even if he doesn’t want to let her know about that. He lives and breathes archery and much like his older sister has never dated anyone in all his life.

I Beat Sonic X Shadow Generations

I found you, Faker!

I've for the most part, considered myself a Sonic Enjoyer. Not a fan, but an enjoyer. I look at the series through the window; I listen to the music, I enjoy the characters, I listen to one of my best friends talk about the comics, I have fun! But I don't play the games. I have only ever played one Sonic game, that being Sonic CD, but that was back when I was in middle school, so I don't remember much. I... don't think I ever beat it? But I do remember enjoying it. But that should show you what my very limited hedgehog related past involves.

Flash forward to 2024; I spend a Lot Of Time watching a man play Sonic games, a Sonic movie comes out, and a rerelease of a game with bonus content of the character I have designated as my favorite comes out; It's time to play a Sonic game. So here I am!

This game is a 2 package deal, so I'm essentially gonna do 2 posts in one. I'm writing this first section after I finished the first part of the game, and will do so again with the second, just for fresher out of the oven thoughts.

Act 1: Sonic Generations (Fast)

Admittedly not the top reason I picked up this game, but I'm very glad that it came with it so I could experience what I IMAGINE is a good overall feel for Sonic games, with its combination of Classic and Modern.

Gameplay

It's. My feelings are complicated, I feel. From moment one, thrown into Green Hill Zone, I was... lost? It's very hard, for me at least, to get my bearings or to see enemies and obstacles. I often felt like I would get hit or die, and there wasn't really anything I could have done about it. There's a similar difficulty with controls. Like, why didn't my lightspeed dash work. Why did my homing attack send me Over There. Why can I not just MAKE THIS JUMP AAGH. I can't say for sure how much of this is the game's fault, though. I'm notoriously not a platformer guy, and I did not grind the game out to REALLY get good with it all. So it's hard to say what's the game's fault and what's my fault. I'm choosing to put more blame on the game though lmao.

I did like parts of it though, shown by the fact that I didn't just drop the game; I really enjoyed the boost and drift mechanic in 3D. Were they hard to control? Yes. Did I run into things and off cliffs? Yes. Did I have fun? Yes, and that's what's most important. When you really get a groove going and you're going fast and jumping right and it all comes together, it feels GREAT, which I think is what Sonic is all about; grind a level until you can get that full combo smoothness. It's like a rhythm game in that vein, just a lot harder to sight read. I also feel like in each level, you're Always moving forward. You're not really stuck or falling behind for the most part (unless you die, of course), you just either get to do The Fast Path or the Not Fast path, and I love that. In a game of speed, it sucks to lose progress. It sucks less to just be slower than you could be. The level design is honestly magic, I don't understand how there's so many paths that connect into each other.

The level selection (white space) being its own level was really cool. Platforming to different challenges, chasing down the bells, and having 2 control schemes to move around it was awesome. Speaking of;

I like the separation of 2D and 3D. It makes the game easier to play through, having a change in a level here and there, rather than the same thing the whole way through where I might get burnt out. Especially when you need to do some of the challenge levels to progress the game, it lets me choose which gameplay style I prefer to fill the requirements for each level; I don't want to do Crisis City in 3D again, so I'll do it in 2D. It's great, and a wonderful concept to build the game around.

The boss fights were hit or miss. On one hand, I appreciate that slow build up, learning mechanics until you can get a clear, like an MMO fight. On the other hand, sometimes I'm running in circles, literally, and can't progress properly, or I'm struggling to figure out what to do. It's not like, a flaw, necessarily, but it IS a frustration. I think Metal Sonic and Silver were my two favorites; Shadow and Egg Dragoon were a little much for me. The final boss was visually very cool, but it felt... very nothing. It had a cool mechanic with switching perspectives, reminded me of Paper Mario, but it didn't have too many attacks, I couldn't see when rings were happening, and I didn't feel like I was actively making progress.

Story

Reminds me of a Kirby story. It's there, it makes sense, it's not that deep in the slightest, and it's more of a vehicle for gameplay. Something I can respect, especially in a game like this, but of course my personal taste wants more out of something, maybe just a little more character dialogue.

I like Sonic characters. I think most people do. Here, they really just served the purpose of "hey look at this character you like and their 5 lines of dialogue." They're not deep at all, which does stink, but it's always nice to see this cast. Also, Classic Tails is adorable. I want to hug him.

I did find out they rewrote a lot of the dialogue for this port, and after going back to watch it, I do think they made good changes overall. Sonic feels like less of a dick, especially now that he responds to his friends instead of being silent; and overall the cast seems a little smarter, especially since they recognize things.

Music and Vibes

This is the real strength of the game, and what I enjoyed most out of it. Sonic music fucks. It always has, they never miss (they missed a couple times. I'm aware.), and this game being essentially a "greatest hits" OST was very welcome. I loved the remixes of songs between Classic and Modern, and it felt like they fit their era; Rooftop Run is a good example of this. Classic doesn't feel like as much is going on, some of the instruments feel a little more bitcrushed, while Modern sounds more like a well recorded band playing. It's really nice; I also liked the string covers in white space. Sonic music is the part of the series I am most familiar with, so I got a smile every time I heard a song I knew. Also, having the ability to choose a track from more than is represented in levels is an AWESOME feature. I'm not going for 100%, but if I were to, unlocking more songs would be the part I look forward to the most.

Speaking of the vibes, there's just something about Sonic, man. It's stylish, it's colorful, it's really pleasant to look at... when I can tell what I'm looking at, and something about the energy of this game, and really Sonic as a whole, makes me want to keep moving forward and see more of the world given to me. There's just something so fun and addicting that I cannot comprehend.

That Blue Hedgehog Again, Here of All Places.

My feelings on Generations are so complicated. I don't think Sonic as a game series is really made for me; I just don't vibe with some of the things that it IS. But like... somehow, despite that, I still enjoy it. I really don't understand; they got some kind of dark magic in this shit. I get frustrated that I just CAN'T GET THIS LEVEL TO START RIGHT, and that this final boss feels nothing, yet I still have a big dumb smile on my face at seeing Super Sonic(s), or listening to the music, or seeing all these levels from the past come together. It's got a certain magic to it. I think if I was gonna rate this game alone...

6.5/10. Doesn't fully jive with me, but it has a lot of charm, and reason to enjoy it despite the flaws (which again might not necessarily be flaws with the game it could just be me).

But it's not alone. I got some Shadow to look forward to.

Act 2: Shadow Generations (Furious)

This is the real reason I considered getting this game. I like Shadow a lot; I would consider him my favorite character (beyond just the edgelord stuff I promise), so having "new" Shadow content and redoing old not good Shadow content was very appealing.

This part of the game jived with me a LOT more than Sonic did, for a few reasons.

Gameplay

So right off the bat; the game was a LOT more understandable to my brain. I feel like I could see where I was going, I felt more in control, it wasn't a blinding mess of stuff where I didn't think I could react to things properly. This alone was huge for me liking the game. Shadow also has a lot more moves than either Sonic did, which I think helps the gameplay flow a lot more. An action speed game is better and more engaging when you have more options. Not to say that it didn't turn into quick time events and lots of homing often, but just the slight differences were really nice (also helps that my homing attacks didn't feel bullshit and my moves for the most part consistently worked).

Map design keeps that same concept I liked from Sonic, where it always feels like I'm moving forward. Something about this one just feels like the shortcuts were more attainable. Was the game easier? Was I just a better player? Were they designed better? I can't say; but my experience was improved.

I loved the world map. Sonic Generations' was nice, adding in actual gameplay to reach levels; but Shadow's being 3D and more open world style was REALLY fun on top of just being a little more than menus. Finding secrets, having mini levels everywhere with the music notes and chests, even just running around; I had fun.

Shadow's moves were, for the most part, very enjoyable. I loved how Chaos Control actually paused the level timer, and I think some levels were designed around it very well. I forgot about Chaos Spear for most of the game, but eventually I was kinda forced to think about it and fit it into the gameplay flow; fun for quicktime events. Doom Blast was nice to change up the button mashing for a bit, as well as giving alternate pathways, Doom Surf is a little unwieldy, but the levels are well designed around it and it lends to fun boss fights. I didn't care much for Doom Morph (Shadow Splatoon), as I couldn't really get the hang of it, but conceptually it's cool and I think someone could be sick with it. Doom Wing is fun, but also frustrating to get going; certainly not as bad as Squid though. The boost, the double jump, the stomp; everything together really tied together the experience.

I'm not super sure what it is, but something about the boss fights were more enjoyable too. Maybe it was the health bar? Maybe it was the bits of mashing that actually mattered? Could have also just been presentation and overall improvement of game feel. The final boss felt like I was actually doing something, which is awesome.

I mean, overall, just the ability to feel like I'm in control of the game helped immensely. I also recognize that this content is 13 years newer than what it came packaged with, so naturally there's going to be improvements. I'm really happy with it, though.

Story

There's more of it! Which, I mean, there better have been. Shadow's story is why I like him so much, so there's gotta be more content here. First off, characters get so much more dialogue, there's bits after every single level, and it's awesome. Sure, it's not "story", but just to see actual character interactions made me really happy, especially with the chosen cast; Omega was hilarious, and I loved reading Gerald and Maria's stuff. (Big was there.)

The story was still simple, compared to what I'm traditionally used to, but I enjoyed how it fit within Sonic Generations' plot, yet still feeling more driven. Black Doom was an active, in your face threat from the start, rather than vague monster that ended up Eggman(s), and on top of him, there was Shadow dealing with having Gerald and Maria "back" again, and there was the bit with the fake emerald actually used as a plot point to fully have it make sense within the context of the original game; I think it was executed well, for what it was. It was really nice seeing Shadow be able to Show the people he loves how he could fight not just for anger, when he couldn't before.

One thing I really liked was Gerald's Notebook, story you pieced together from collectables in the overworld. It gave more background on the family, plus Chaos stuff which I didn't know (I guess it was known, but I didn't know it). An excellent way to get me more involved in the overworld, as well as giving me that sweet, sweet lore that I crave.

Music and Vibes

I mean, I said it before. I'll say it again. Sonic music fucks. This is an unchangeable rule of the world. It still had that separation of genres like Sonic Generations had between the 2D and 3D acts, but leaning more into heavy and serious styles of music, befitting Shadow perfectly. Plus, I get that good Crush 40 buttrock that heals my aching soul (that final boss remix of All Hail Shadow FUCKED)

The game was covered in that classic Shadow edginess, red and black everywhere, alien tentacly bits, and even more gothic designs in the overworld (I think? I'm not a designer) with the grand castles and golden trims. It still had that same base that Sonic Generations had, but themed it perfectly to Shadow. I also really loved the fucked up Doctor Strange dimension Radical Highway, even if the level design of it was really frustrating.

Overall, Shadow Generations left a MUCH better impression on me than Sonic Generations did. You can really feel the improvement of game design they went through over the years. I was much less frustrated and uninterested in this game; sure, there was bits I got annoyed at, but every game has that; the bits aren't in the actual dna of the game, so my experience is greatly improved.

It makes me really happy to see the parts of Shadow's past stuck in infamously terrible games actually be able to shine, and hopefully Sonic can continue on the upward trend. It might not be the closest series to my heart, but I think it deserves to thrive. Anyways, this half of the game feels like...

8.5/10. A much more solid experience than the game it was packaged with, almost like it's a redemption of everything it contains.

This leaves us with a total average rating of 7.5/10! I'm glad I finally have a complete Sonic under my belt. It feels like it filled a gap in my gaming resume.

In order to not give it away since any of the bands that might be all-time favorites would probably be a blaring spotlight. I am going to go with a band that I have gone back to over and over again throughout my life.

I think the first song I heard from them is Midnite Dynamite when I was in elementary school. I remember hearing it on the radio late night in the car, falling asleep. I listened to them like crazy all through middle school and high school. Being someone with untreated depression most of my life the song "Don't Close Your Eyes" has always stuck with me. Not only is it a truly beautiful ballad, the song is literally about the guy rushing to a friend/girlfriend who called him in a panic. He is trying to keep her awake after she O.D.s on pills from the pressure and depression at home. The part where he desperately screams "WAKE UP! Don't go to sleep" in the song always gets me . Donnie Purnell (The bassist of Kix and the main songwriter on it) and Bob Halligan Jr have confirmed this meaning in a couple places... so does the music video. (If you go watch this video it does show the girl in it taking the pills, passing out, etc so trigger warning?)

What I really love about all their music, whether it is a ballad or a more sexual song, the emotions are high in their music. The sexual innuendo in their songs and the word play really makes me happy too. Also I think Steve Whiteman (the singer) and especially Brian Forsythe (the guitarist) are really hot. I had such a crush on Brian in high school. I also love their stage fashion. The tight pants, silk shirts, dress vests, torn denim jackets, and leather jackets are like my absolute fashion goals.. both as a teen and now.

Oh yeah, Kix is a great band, excellent choice! As someone who's also had untreated depression practically their whole life, I also feel that way about Don't Close Your Eyes. That part gets me every time too. I've already seen the music video multiple times and it's never bothered me, but I appreciate you giving me the warning nonetheless.

I love that about their music too! I like a band that pours all their emotion into their songs, regardless of whether it's fast paced or not. And I'm a lesbian so I can't weigh in on whether they're hot but I will say that I love their hair and fashion lol.

Great song choices! My favorite by them is probably Midnite Dynamite, but I also like Cold Blood, Blow My Fuse and Scarlet Fever. It's cool that you got see them, and more than once at that!

I was aware of a couple of their songs since my local rock stations play 18 And Life and I Remember You on a frequent basis, but during quarantine I decided to really get into them because a couple of my mutuals at the time were obsessed with them and for obvious reasons I was bored and wanted to get into some new bands. I think I spent the next few days just listening to their first two albums on repeat and laying there in awe at how amazing they sounded.

The song Quicksand Jesus really connected with me, and it's not only my favorite Skid Row song, it's one of my favorite songs ever. The guitars on that song are just so hypnotizing and I love the lyrics. While I know it's not the "real" meaning, I think it's about losing your faith in religion, which I absolutely have experience with. In A Darkened Room resonated with me too, and almost everything I said about Quicksand Jesus I can say about In A Darkened Room. Some of my other favorites include Into Another, The Threat, Forever, Psycho Love, Wasted Time and Midnight/Tornado.

I've always gone back to this band ever since discovering them, and I think a big part of that is because it's one of the very few bands my mom and I both love. To the point where we even named one of our cats Sebastian after Sebastian Bach lol.

last film i watched: I am mostly watching tv shows recently and few movies. Last movie I watched for fun, I think was the Guy Ritchie "King Arthur" movie, because I was watching a couple of things in my Netflix queue before cancelling my Netflix subscription. I also watched "Zone of Interest" for academic reasons last week, which. huh. what do you even say about that film.

currently reading: I have been stuck at the halfway point in Notorious Sorceror for ages, even though I like it so far. It's giving me V.E. Schwab with a dash of Liveship Traders. I think I'm reading it so slowly because it actually requires my attention span and I'm in the middle of a school semester and don't have one. In the meantime, I've started and finished This Is How You Lose the Time War (oh my god?????) and started Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

currently craving: Oddly nothing. Will probably eat the last of the leftover potato salad soon though.

currently watching: I am in season 7 of Supernatural, season 7 of X-Files, season 7 of 9-1-1, and approximately 5 episodes behind on the current campaign of Critical Role. I neeeeeed to catch up on CritRole real bad because I already know what's going on in recent episodes and I need! To see! My boi! For some reason I have spent quite some time doing some "world building" (if it can be called that) that I probably won't add in the comic, so, gonna dump it all here.

The school is not the best of all, not even by public school standards, if anything, the school is often a second choice, and most of those who enter there are mostly bc it has little requirements to get in, and is very lenient to special cases.

Some examples of these people would be Freddy (he enters after the classes started) Bon, Julian (both didn't enter the private school they were going to at the last minute, so they got "stuck" in that school, there's more to them later)

For the school itself, it's not that bad (there's a reason that many ppl prefer to go there as a second choice in comparison to other schools) the classes are fairly decent (though, some teachers are prone to not show up to class), and it has a bunch of academic and sports programs, even though it kinda lacks on the cultural aspect. Until a new benefactor steps in.

So, after Julian failed miserably during his entrance exams for the private school he was going into, his father got him into the school he is in now, and to "cover up" the incident his dad decided to become a benefactor of the school, and bc of that, now the school has more budget, with the condition of using it for the whole "art" section (idk how to call it). And out of the blue, the school now has an improved auditorium, a bunch of new material and instruments, and, of course, a variety of new activities for the students, starting with a brand new band contest where everyone can participate, who knows what might happen next, maybe there'll be an official school band, or a chorus or something, (this is all really just testing how the students might take the new situation)

**Julian exposition time again!. Let's go. He basically burned himself out for trying to study for the entrance exams, finish middle school, and all that. It was bad, like, forgetting weeks worth of studies the moment you start the exam bad, like staring at the questions for the whole 3ish hours of the test while none of the questions make sense bad, like, flunking so embarrassingly that it's basically a secret, to the point your dad makes up an elaborate plan to hide the true reason you're going to a certain school, and forces you to take a different path than the one he had already set up for you bc you couldn't keep up bad. Like, that bad. (Poor guy, every time I check on what his deal is, I add more to it. I'm sorry but I like it when the characters'actions are part of the setup of the story, idk how to explain but is Fun)

Now, onto the ppl behind the music contest.

Lana*- secretary- the one actually in charge of the contest

Vincent (yes, the waiter/presenter*) - intern teacher- the one who is supposed to do most of the work

Owynn- student 15 yr old- he helps out every now and then bc he has nothing better to do w no ulterior motives :)

Bon's dad*- music teacher (I'll get to that, hold on)- he has to set up practice sessions/ music classes for whoever enters the contest

[insert OC name here] (an oc wow)- student/intern 17 yr old- the one who ended up doing most of everything

*giving them roles bc I'm lazy 4 ocs, even [insert OC name] is almost the librarian, yeah he's another different character

The arrangement goes like this: Lana is the head of the project and the one who reports back to the boss (between the principal and Julian's dad idk). The planning of events, the coverage, and those administrative details get solved by Vincent, and Bon's dad is supposed to manage the music rooms and instruments, as well as make schedules for using those for practices. [Insert OC name] does most of the hard labor, checking registrations, putting up the signs, etc., since their job as an intern is basically to help w anything that needs to be done. And also basically doing all of Bon's dad responsibilities since he doesn't actually have the time to do his job as a teacher.
