Wow what a great city Liverpool is. We had much funny exploring. I don’t know if you know but a band called “The Beatles” came from Liverpool. There were many related places of interest. I think we got the main contenders in the bag! Along with many other merch items!
Even managed to squeeze in a ferry cross the Mersey.
The travelling sisterhood made it across from Liverpool safely, with three stow away passengers in the car 🚗. #botr Due to adverse road traffic conditions we managed to avoid main motorways and go across country. Woodhead Pass was really pretty. Many rolling hills, sheep (cows) and little traffic. A beautiful journey.
The Sheffield Fly DS Arena is locate on the outskirts of Sheffield. As per the 2015 tour still next door to (That’s) “Centertainment”. With little else around. (Google’s two-for-one voucher) Dinner sorted.
Gig day we geocached around Centertainment. You haven’t experienced a town without use of a different form of transport.......anyone for a Supertram to Meadowhall? (Sheffield’s premier shopping experience) (Three stops) £3 💰 return - cheap at half the price! All I bought was a Greggs Vegan sausage roll (scientific research) and caramel custard donut (non vegan) (Doooh). Long live the tour diet.
Queue life. Easy doors. No queuing til after 3pm by order of Sheffield Fly DSA, result. What time do you think the rain started? 3.01pm. We are Joined by a lovely couple from Huddersfield, Amanda and Rory. Rory being the Mumford fan and Amanda being the ‘ok let’s go’ partner. The original November show was on Rory’s birthday so he was obviously “gutted” by the postponement. But he was very happy today. Emergency Poundland ponchos now being sported we all queued under Rory’s adequate golfing umbrella! Thanks!
Doors! All smooth. Showtime. We are Villagers, no flamingo shirt for Conor, but another relaxing set. Still hasn’t read the memo about playing in the round. . . . .
Mumford! Same set as Liverpool. I thought Marcus was struggling a little vocally during the second half? But still belted them out. Good feel in the room. But a lot of the crowd remaining seated for the majority of the set as far as I could see.
Not much banter, just chat with the lady who shouted “feel the tide” just before they started the acoustic section. Think she also had a banner with Feel the Tide on it, obviously keen!!! Marcus was shocked someone knew that one. And said he couldn’t remember how to play it! Maybe next time. They shouted again! “This is the longest audience chat I’ve had!” He said if you have a drunk friend put your arm on their shoulder to shut them up! After the quiet songs Marcus said “You’ve got some good friends Sheffield”.
I spotted Barney @robinjackson air drumming! He was really going for it during lover of the light! Sadly no 42 played, but we saw Barney’s sign!! We did get Rose of Sharon, Picture you/Darkness Visible and Woman. Rose of Sharon such a choon.
Ditmas run was more of a marathon, with a big climbing effort by Marcus and security to access level one, and a high drop down. Still impressed by Marcus’s level of fitness. How does he regain composure so quickly for Slip away? Another choon.
All too soon it was over. It was a fun night.
Managed to purchased another programme from the merch stall as it had a complimentary black and white A4 Sheffield tour poster..... clearly trying to shift those end of tour programmes!!
A rain free walk back to the hotel, I was very pleased not to be driving anywhere as the queue to get out of the arena car park looked “challenging”.
Until Manchester.....
