Prompt for @norvstforthvwickvd
“I know you don’t have any reason to trust me, but you need to know something.”

Holding a hand out to Nyteri almost in caution, Jake swallowed the lump in his throat while his eyes took in her profile, a resigned expression on his face as he tried to get her to listen. “I know you don’t have any reason to trust me, but you need to know something.”
Words that were spoken with the confidence of a man who was not him, he didn't dare to move closer to his was she actually still his mate because he knew that in her despair, she was volatile and unpredictable.
Things he loved about her, though.
Once she finally met his already-wet gaze, Sully forced himself to stand firm because this was his responsibility. It was all that he could do because there was no way Neteyam was in any state to prove his father's point, not after their idiot son had gone AWOL with his younger brother Lo'ak.
What were the knuckleheads thinking!? They were still just children, god damn it! What made the thought of exploring an old RDA's outpost a good one? By the grace of Eywa's will, the two boys had gotten away but not unscathed. Neteyam was being looked after by the scientist's medical squad, and Lo'ak was bloodied and bruised to the point of amazement that his second-oldest was even able to stand.
However, it'd been too long... too long since Neteyam's eyes had fluttered since he'd begun to convulse intermittently, leading everyone to think the boy had found something that Jake's old science sorties were working on before they had to abandon ship; he could only hope it wasn't lethal.
Without moving an inch still, he knew his wife had to be blaming him. He was their father.
"I know, baby, I know. I- I messed up. It's a father's job to protect his family... I failed. Just listen to me? He's going to be okay. I just know that he's going to be okay. He has to be. Right? He has to be okay, so he's going to be okay."
Was he consoling Nyteri or trying to convince himself?
"He's going to wake up, you know that, right?"
Did Jake?

What was going on?
The last thing he remembered was a yell and a bang as the explosive device detonated beneath Nyteri's feet, his warning cry going unheard as he was thrown back and off his feet...
Ears twitching, Jake opened his eyes slowly to the sound of clicking and wrinkled his nose, drowsily trying to make sense out of what he was seeing only to groan as the nausea hit him.
"He's waking up," One man muttered as they adjusted their grip on their weapon. As he grew more aware of what was happening, he realized where he was because of the distinct scent that hit his senses.
Artificial. 'Oh no'.
That could only mean one thing.
He was in one of the RDA's buildings, which explained the guns pointed in his direction and the sudden alarm that went off among the men holding them. He had to be.
He wasn't close enough to one of the research outposts for him to have been taken there, so yeah- the most logical conclusion to everything was that his hunting party had unknowingly made their way into one of the RDA's traps.
Just what he needed to make his week better.
Scrambling back against the wall in instinct, Jake took in his cramped room as he tried to add as much space between himself and the people. Other than the addition of the woman in the corner, everything looked exactly the same as he remembered. Which wasn't that comforting of a thought when he thought about it because that meant he was in the RDA's science department.
So it was true then. The rumors that there was a new weapon amongst his enemy.
"We're not going to hurt you." The man in front of him said in what he must have thought was a calming tone, which it wasn't, and approached Jake with little caution. Completely ignoring him, Jake eyed the woman with suspicion before pushing himself into the opposing corner.
He knew why he was here.
When he was working with Grace's team, Jake had heard that the RDA had brought more than just volunteered men and women into the Avatar program; he heard talk about the people capable of things that astounded everyone else, himself included. He just didn't think it was true.
His former employers had started to research a different side project, trying to see if it was possible for them to link the newfound mutants to an Avatar body the same way they could with humans, and it seemed that it was successful.
"Did you really think that just because you're one of them means that we still don't own you, Sully? At least in body, that is." The shorter man taunted, causing Jake to hiss in reply. "What the fuck do you want with me?" He cursed even as he tried to stand at his full height in such a compressed room.
"You remember, Sully! Oh man, oh man, Sully, here was our man. Till he ran and hid like the piece of shit turncoat he turned out to be." One of the other soldiers in the room jeered at Jake, earning a snarl in return. "We need one of the clans to teach the Avatar how to integrate themselves into the Na'vi's society, and my, my, my when I heard we had the chance to capture you? Bet your damn ass on the fact that we've been after you for a long ass time, son."
"Who else is better to teach a new species of you big blue useless baboons than their leader? Jake Sully. Or would you like for me to call you by your traitor's name? Huh, Tsyeyk Suli." Was spat at him as if it were some form of insult; ha, Jake thought. Jokes on them because that was an insult he wore with pride. He earned his place amongst his clan, and he earned his place between the leftover, peace-wanting scientists who meant the planet no harm, only there to observe.
"You're assigned to project 8675309 effective immediately and are tasked to getting her to stand on those fucking Bambi weak legs and work them until she's as good as you were. But watch it... we don't make the same mistake twice. Your friend, the former chief's daughter? She is our hostage and will be until I start to SEE ACTUAL FUCKING RESULTS." Was yelled at the Ometeykaian, a growl meeting the words. With that- the short, squishy, annoying men all filed out of the tiny cell, the door automatically beeping as they input the pin number to lock him in.
Jake slams a fist against the tough glass, yelling threat after threat at them.
He didn't even stop to think that he might wake up the other person in the cell with him.

@mockingjaybroken asked:
❛ What else could there possibly be? ❜ / for Jake Sully
Tumblr media
"I was like you once, always wondering what else is next or where I should go after being done where I was... Took a long time before I realized that it doesn't really matter, y'know? What if there's nothing after this? Does that make whatever 'this' is less special?"
His eyes drifted from cloud to cloud as he answered her question with a bit of thought, ears twitching slightly at the wind. "Should there be something else?"

“Wait- you’re tellin’ me that these giant, flying firefly-type things aren’t actually firefly-like at all, but… they’re carnivorous instead?”
Jake said, his tail whipping around behind him the moment one of the said flying beasts came at him, causing him to flinch and duck, much to the amusement of those around him.

Jake yipped loudly, his pride clear in his tone when he glanced back at Lo'ak, seated upon his own Ikran for the first time, his hands gripping the makeshift saddle Jake had created.
“Just like that!” He called back, the grin on his face undeniable just as he nodded his head to his son. “I’m going to be down there. You’ve got this, blood of my blood. You shall not fail.” Jake said in response to the nervous noise his second oldest, yet still so young in his eyes, son made.
Giving him a grin, he guided his way down to the floor of the forest, his eyes still trained on the boy to the point where he didn’t notice anyone approaching him, causing him to startle as he instinctively crouched in a defensive position only to close his eyes and sigh, shaking his head.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop sneaking up on me?”
