AGH the childhood scene. I was kind of expecting it to happen at night and for us to see Keito fall over, but I do like what we got to see
I kind of wish they did more with this scene though. In the story they mentioned that Rei was sitting atop tombstones and adults would bow their heads and beg him to teach them. I like how Rei breaks different societal conventions here in a place that is supposed to be morbid. The graveyard is a space where Rei is placed on a pedestal and becomes a character that is seen above humanity. His childhood is supposed to be eccentric, and the Crossroad anime could’ve depicted that more. However, I do like how the Crossroad anime goes for the more realistic approach. Because even though Rei’s backstory is supposed to feel otherworldly, the realistic angle shows us that at the end of the day he is still a kid who adults worshipped just for being smart
