Eddie's second lease on life turns out to be a double edged sword, once he's been off of the good shit that the hospital's been dripping into him long enough to realize that the duality of his life isn't actually just a weird reaction to all of the morphine.

He hears the noises - a simmering chorus of echoing violence that accompanies every sound he's actually present for.

He sees it all, like a picture taken over a roll of film that had already been used up, gauzy and just as terrifiying as it had been when it was the only thing in view.

The worst are the most visceral of his senses, tasting mold and blood and acid, smelling meat and rot and death. And feeling -

He can feel the vines crawling over his cracked body and staking their claim, pushing a weird sweet liquid into his mouth as they tighten around him, leaving him helpless to be fed whatever poison they're preparing their meal with.

But he's here as well.

Walking slowly from Wayne's truck to Steve's front door, a place where he can recover more easily than at Wayne's temporary lodgings at the Motel 9. The sun is out and the air is almost fresh enough to override the rot.

He claims exhaustion for how distracted he is, claims pain for all of the other reactions, like when the vines find out whether one of his ribs can take any more of the claiming bear hug they've trapped him with.

He wonders if this it is, now.

The twin of himself either a copy or a sliced half, one brain and one soul and one lonely experience overrun with two different sides of a world.

I'm stuck in bed with the second half a migraine (well enough to wrestle with the fucking tumblr post editor on my phone lmao), so I thought I'd just put something that's been rattling around in my brain out there.
