So this just helped confirm what I already knew: the ins and outs of Christian theology has quickly reached hyperfixation levels.
#I do! I DO love studying the nitty-gritties of my faith!#when you’re forbidden from doing so all your life because questioning the pastor gets you sent to hell it’s only natural#I told my dad I was learning about calvinism vs arminianism and he said he knows nothing about arminianism#(and all he knows about calvinism of course is predestination — which was also the case with me at first)#I told him the cult I was raised in and he’s still trapped in is firmly arminian#he was a little baffled and insisted they were in fact pentecostal#(and to that extent didn’t subscribe to any ‘doctrine’ because doctrine is unbiblical?)#I’ve always seen him as extremely wise and knowledgeable about our faith#but I’ve learned these past months that his knowledge of anything that’s not stressed in our cult is surface-level#he studies juuuuuust enough to justify why he doesn’t believe it and why others shouldn’t either and that’s that#and like? how is that any fun??#I don’t at all subscribe to calvinism but I’ve spent hours digging into it because it’s theology and it’s fascinating!#WOW I’m talking too much
