MAC HI don't mind me i just finished the genloss founders cut and im putting my ful lreview in ur inbox bc u said u weren't gonna watch it i think but i want 2 share my thoughts with someone who will not rip me to shreds for criticizing it even slightly <3
OK. I'M NOT GONNA LIE. IT KINDA SLAPPED. maybe i just think it was really good in comparison to the original four hours of streams that dragged on. i honestly thought the original streams of genloss were longer but NO all three streams add up to about four hours???? it just felt so much longer when i originally watched it i guess!!! u can understand why i am sure. but the founders cut was like two and a half and oh my goddddd cutting out a lot of it made such a huge difference. holy shit. like i definitely did get bored and skip through a little bit but honestly i didn't skip through much!! every time i got to a part where i was like "oh fuck not THIS bit that goes on for 30-45 minutes god dammit" it ended up being like maybe ten minutes at most which was SUCH A GODSEND. i am delighted to report that they cut the half hour cooking bit in the first episode down to like 7-8 minutes <3 the best surprise ranboo could have given me tbh. like with the way things were cut down and framed differently i actually laughed at a couple points????? WILD. did not think i would find any genuine comedy here. lowkey there were points that were funny. insane
honestly with the unfunny bits being cut down, it actually let the slightly more serious lore bits shine more, and the payoff for when it got to the third episode felt SO much more deserved. like. the original streams i'd probably give a 3/10 collectively and that's being generous but i would unironically say the founder's cut deserves like a 7/10. maybe a 7.5 if i found it in myself to ignore the bad special effects. (there was still plenty of bad comedy ngl i still don't know why charlie slimecicle's face was superimposed on a towel. that scene was nothing. it was literally nothing. they could have removed it and it would change nothing but they kept it in idk why)
ANYWAY. if they had released genloss like this first maybe i would unironically be a fan of it now. tbh. i would still be making fun of the bad comedy and the horror that was barely horror but i think i would actually be like participating in the fandom a lil and i would probably find it in me to find some charm in the bad special effects. all in all Not Bad!! not good, but not like actively bad. ofc im still running on the adrenaline of the ending because episode 3 was objectively the best out of them all so maybe my perception is skewed but. kinda decent. 7/10 👍 anyway i hope ur havin a good day i hope to finish pd season one soon over the next couple days!!!!!
taking the cowards route and putting my thoughts under the cut bc a lot of my mutuals these days really enjoy genloss and i don't want them to be mad at me
(genloss crit/neg/whatever under the cut)
dude this makes me so unironically sad . why the FUCK was genloss what it was the first time around when this was obviously the better route to go from the very beginning. I am still staunchly in my "I don't like genloss" position but. I DID WATCH IT. i sat through ALL of the original streams and it was so miserable for me. im not going 2 watxh the directors cut or whatever bc i dont hate myself enough to sit through all of that again but i trust your opinion!! if only it would've been planned out thought out prerecorded videos from the start I also probably would not hate it as much as I do!!! maybe I even would've liked it !!! (<< not likely bc i do have Other Issues with it than just the fact that it was too long too unfunny too unfocused etc whatever im getting into hater territory sorry. always welcome 2 genloss fans to try to explain to my why its Good Actually so i can recommend them actual horror media)
like . the streams added absolutely NOTHING to it other than that final choice scene or whatever. and even if they wanted to do that still u know what would've been an awesome smart choice??? prerecord and edit the whole thing and then premiere THAT video on twitch- then when it comes time for the final choice you can still have people vote!! then you can have two separate endings prepared based on which way the vote was swaying. like. its that easy. it would've made the whole experience so much more enjoyable . ughhghghg the fucking wasted potential on HOURS of unfunny badly improvved bits is so devastating
personally I still cant excuse the bad effects considering the amount of times ranboo bragged about the genloss budget like. maybe you should've used your resources better and also if it would've just been prerecorded from the start things wouldn't look as rushed as they did but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ what do I know !!
anyway I'm so glad this version was better but for me it will always ALWAYS be tainted by the . misery I felt while watching the streams lmaoooo . I wanted to like genloss so bad. I tried so hard. head in hands !!!!!!!!!!!

so phantom would you say you're past the point of no return with tma yet? is it joever as they say? could i have your detailed thoughts i like hearing detailed thoughts
also i just realized i haven't been following you woops
uhm... stares at my pile of fic ideas building up n kicks them under the rug.... uh no no I have uh no idea what you're talking about uhm.. tma???? never heard of it, dont know what that is uhm... (its joever for me)
I really am enjoying the characters, I like them a lot and the way of storytelling is SO interesting to me that I am so enamored by it. The worldbuilding is fun and it's like the exact type of horror that I eat up so much (what I like to call Evil Dimension /pos style horror where the horror is just intermingled with everyday life but for the most part it's kinda just normal tbh. Still horrifying in this case but it's a part of life for them).
The statements are honestly probably my favorite part because Imma be honest I think it's one of the best executions i've seen of the catch all be all style horror where you try to hit as much types of horror as you can to scare as large of an audience as you can. Bc everything still feels interconnected and like there's a point to it, not that they're trying to be scary just for the sake of being scary, it's giving you a reason to keep watching and to be scared. I'm also a little biased because there have been a few episodes that have genuinely scared me (like cold sweats shivering and trying not to panic kind of scared which I've never felt like that before from a media and I ATE IT UP) (though that was late at night and it was an episode that catered to my specific fears).
As a horror medium it's so interesting to me and I am so intrigued by it, not to mention the characters are silly and so compelling to me and I love all the characters so dearly. I have latched onto Jon like a chewtoy n I also really like Sasha. The short episodes are also like a goldmine for me because it's like rewarding when I finish an episode and I can actually get thru more than one in one sitting so it's really easy for me to listen to, I don't know what it is about it that makes it easier than other media that I interact with. Normally podcasts are hard for me but I've been having a pretty easy time working through it tbh and it feels a little easier for me. The mostly episodic style to a lot of the statements takes off a surprising amount of pressure for some reaosn so I'm just here enjoying the ride and the lil bits of lore.
Very fun, very enjoyable. And Jon's voice is so soothing that it makes it easier to listen to bc I like it all that much more.

Judging Doctor Who: Twelfth Doctor
Disclaimer: this is all in good fun and I don't take fandom seriously
Good episodes I like
Deep Breath - The t-rex is a little random, but the robot plot is a delightful setup for a new dynamic. Also beginning of Missy's first arc!
Robot of Sherwood - It's so fun and weird and charming, and he's so grumpy about it
Mummy on the Orient Express - the mystery is intriguing and I love them fighting but refusing to acknowledge that's what they're doing
Flatline - excellent silly monster of the week story
The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar - Everything about this is so ridiculous and delightful. It's a great daleks episode! Missy stops planes just to get Clara's attention! She casually murders people because she's having fun being evil! The Doctor throws a depression party by breaking time travel rules! He's so full of nihilism but can't quit compassion! I kinda ship Missy and Clara I think, in a really messed up way
Under the Lake/Before the Flood - YES, appropriate use of time travel!! Go solve the mystery in the past!
The Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived - One of my all time favorite arcs. The tragedy of an act of kindness destroying her, the way she can't hold all her memories, the way she stops caring but finds a reason to again. It's so sad! But so compelling!
The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion - I always thought this felt like it was missing a third backstory episode, but even so the entire situation is wonderful. And the Osgoods are in this one!
Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent - Such a great arc ending for Clara, very Doctor-like of her to erase his memories and run away in a TARDIS. With Me as the ideal companion. Also first nu who use of Gallifrey that I approve of.
The Husbands of River Song - The whole thing is just so funny after so many stories of genuine emotion. He can't find a way to explain to her because he's too autistic caught off guard. That "hello, sweetie" kills me. Oh and they finally get their relationship concluding date night
The Return of Doctor Mysterio - I love the superhero theme, how lighthearted it is (despite actual brain stealing!), and the Doctor feels unusually Doctory for Twelve
The Pilot - Excellent intro for Bill
Smile - Delightfully creepy while being colorful and bright. Also, emoji horror
Knock Knock - silly but also horrifying and sad. Also, we should see Bill's school friends more
Oxygen - Delightfully anticapitalist, and I approve of the Doctor having to deal with a disability (even if the sonic sunglasses are cheating a bit)
Extremis - Another au episode! And the start of Missy's second arc!
The Eaters of Light - This one just has such a sweet sad tone and ending to it
Twice Upon a Time - It does give the Doctor some closure, and I like the idea of everyone's selves being saved like that. Also always here for the Doctor meeting himself!
Bad Episodes I like
Dark Water/Death in Heaven - Cyberpollen is ridiculous, I will always be mad about fridging Danny, and if he dies then Orson can't exist later. But it's here because this was such a great scheme and reveal for Missy!
Last Christmas - Not the most coherent and I always hate the hints at the end that maybe it was real, but I enjoyed it a lot. It's very creepy but sweet, and the fake out of the Doctor meeting old Clara really reveals his side of the companion trauma I think.
The Pyramid at the End of the World/The Lie of the Land - It was not a good decision to blind him then undo it, ok. It just wasn't. He should have stayed disabled until regeneration. But a lot of the plot was fun, especially the au bit, even if I'm not sure how Bill won made much sense.
World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls - I couldn't decide where to put this, tbh. There is so much wrong with it. It's a terrible ending for Bill, and bad timing since she felt like she was just starting to really settle in as a companion. It's also a terrible end to Missy's very good arc. But I like the tragedy of Bill spending years alone while the Doctor spends so little time, and for once it wasn't his fault. Also as much as I hate cybermen, this was a harrowing backstory and horrifying reveal.
Good episodes I don't like
In the Forest of the Night - I don't actually think this is a bad episode. I really like that the answer was plants protecting Earth and for once it wasn't an invasion. But the pacing is a bit slow and I thought having this revealed by speaking through a child like that was unnecessary (they should have deduced it)
Thin Ice - This episode is fine but didn't hold my attention well
Bad episodes I don't like
In the Dalek - This one was boring. And also it felt weird that Clara is suddenly a teacher but there's no line about her having a new job. Maybe they meant for it to be a time skip, but it felt jarring
Listen - Possibly my least favorite episode of the whole show. It makes no sense. They get no answers. Are these telepathic guidance circuits ever used again? And they absolutely should not be able to reach Gallifrey's past, right? I do like Orson Pink, though
Time Heist - Simultaneously confusing and dull
Kill the Moon - No. Just no. Not even worth the Moon is an egg jokes.
Sleep No More - Hate this ridiculous contrived plot, and hate even more the implication at the end that they didn't win anyway
Empress of Mars - It felt really slow to me for this kind of episode
Episodes that are kind of offensive
The Caretaker - The Doctor's attitude towards Danny is hypocritical, and unfair, and this only seems to happen with companions' Black boyfriends so I'm blaming the show for this writing choice

Tbh Good Omens season 2 was a little weird to me. These are just my personal thoughts on it.
Everything was a little off. You see how Crowley and Aziraphale have obviously known each other a long time, but they didn't really show how they know each other, the way really old friends do, friends who have helped and (pretend) fought each other for centuries. Idk, I think it's because they didn't really show any of the casual intimacy they should have.
Also: I think Crowley and Aziraphale should've been living together. Crowley was living in his car, and Aziraphale already had that room that he gave to Gabriel. It would've made sense, and would've given them the intimacy that I didn't really notice in this season? Like, people were already calling them husbands from the first season. They had that domesticity, but then it was gone in this one. Crowley could've kept his plants in the shop, and it could've shown how Aziraphale has also gotten into the habit of talking to them like Crowley does.
Besides that, it felt like we didn't really need some of the plotlines, like the zombies or Nina and Maggie, most bc we didn't see why Maggie was in love with Nina. We saw her pining over her, but we didn't see how it started, or why they might be good together. Aziraphale really didn't have to use them for his lie.
Aziraphale and Crowley also felt a little out of character compared to the first season. Aziraphale a bit too naive, and Crowley a bit too serious. Obviously Aziraphale isn't jaded by any means, and Crowley isn't the sort to be excessively jovial, but they had just successfully outmaneuvered both Heaven and Hell and averted the apocalypse. I feel like there's room for more complex characterization.
I liked Beelzebub and Gabriel's romance, but I think there could've been more. Instead of the zombie episode, we could've had one dedicated to Beelzebub and Gabriel, who both also seemed out of character in the show, ngl. Beelzebub came off as a little too open from the start, and I like Gabriel with a softer personality but that's definitely not what he was like in the beginning. I think they could meet up that one time and complain about the Apocalypse That Wasn't, and how it starts is that they would wonder why the Hell (Heaven in Gabriel's case) an angel and a demon would work together to save the world, what is it that's so good about Earth? And so, they would decide to find out. They would investigate Earth's joys together. There could be a montage where instead of just showing them meeting a couple times at a few places, they go anywhere and everywhere, they go to amusement parks and get soft serve ice cream and try ice skating and watch movies and experience so many things together. Basically they go on a whole bunch of Not-Dates around the world and experience the pleasures that humanity has to offer for the first time. And then after all that, they could be sitting at the pub, and the song would be playing in the background, and there would be a Vibe.
Beelzebub, with dawning horror: Is this...?
Gabriel, bemused, This Close to an Epiphany: Are we...?
They realize it at the same time.
Both: Oh no.
They both vanish. They ran away.
But then, unable to stay away, they meet up again. They stare at each other.
Beelzebub, unusually flustered: Well. I figured it out. What about you?
Gabriel, blustering: I also figured it out. But, uh, I think you should say what you figured out...to make sure we figured out the same thing.
Beelzebub: I want to hear you say what you figured out first.
They get nowhere. They go get drinks.
With several empty beer mugs on the table, Beelzebub says: Alright, on three, we'll say it at the same time. Ready? One...two...three.
Neither of them say it. They both take gulps from their beers. Cut to the table being absolutely stacked with empty tankers. The bartender's like, 'Uh, I think I should cut you off,' and Beelzebub does something demon-y to scare him and he's like 'Nevermind, have as many as you like, no need to pay!'
Cut again. There's a fortress of empty beer mugs.
Beelzebub, thoroughly drunk: Wha' wassit you wanned ta' say?
Gabriel, absolutely plastered: I think...it was...uh...I think...
He thinks about it. He's thinking so hard right now. Finally, he wrestles it down: Are we in love?
Beelzebub, pointing: Tha's whot I figured out, too!
And last but not least: Crowley and Aziraphale. It really didn't need to end the way it did. And I think that Metatron's first choice to replace Gabriel shouldn't have been Aziraphale, but Crowley. He would decide to return him to his full former angelic glory. Even better than his former angelic glory, actually. Aziraphale would caution him that Crowley would refuse, but Metatron would request that he ask him anyway.
Cut to Crowley's response.
Crowley: #!$*_!\":$€&`[·§Г^}₩ฯ!$% (censored for sensitive ears)
Cut to Aziraphale informing Metatron of his answer: He said no.
Metatron sighs and says: Very well. And you, Aziraphale? What do you think of taking Gabriel's position?
Aziraphale, smiling politely: I'm afraid I have responsibilities down here that I must see to. I can't let just anyone run my bookshop, you know. They might sell my books.
He turns away, and we see from the way his expression changes out of Metatron's sight that he feels he's just dodged a bullet on fire being chased by the snapping jaws of a crocodile which is followed by the gaping maw of an enraged grizzly bear which is overshadowed by an oncoming meteor the size of Birmingham. Basically he makes this face -> 😬
Metatron, meanwhile, is somewhat put out: I suppose I have no choice, then.
He tells Gabriel he can return to his former position.
Gabriel: Hm...nah.
Cut to Metatron sitting hunched in a chair with his face in his hands.
Muriel: Would you like some hot chocolate? :)
Metatron looks at her. His other options are Michael or Uriel.
He asks her.
Meanwhile, at the shop, Crowley is sprawled in his favored armchair while Aziraphale hands him a cup of tea. "Everyday" is playing on the record player.
Aziraphale: You know, I quite like this song. I think it's grown on me.
Crowley: Not me. I'd like it if I never heard it again. He played it every day, all day, that feathery bastard. The only reason I didn't break the record is because you'd be cross.
Aziraphale, smiling at him: That's the only reason?
Crowley: If you're implying I actually love that song, don't. There's no secret love here.
There's a pause.
Aziraphale: You know, if you really wanted to visit Alpha Centauri, I could...make some time in my schedule.
Crowley: Oh, yes? Your schedule of not selling books?
Aziraphale: Yes, that one. You let me borrow your car, after all. It's only fair I do something for you.
Crowley, scoffing: You do plenty for me. You're the one who fixed the car in the first place after it burned up spectacularly, you let me move in--insisted on it, actually--
He holds up the cup: -You got me tea.
Aziraphale: Well, I--I want to. I want to do those things for you.
Crowley, pausing (he doesn't quite know what's happening): It's good tea.
Aziraphale: Well. Good.
There's another pause.
Aziraphale: Crowley, please tell me if you don't want this.
He takes Crowley's cup and sets it aside, and then he places his hand on Crowley's shoulder and leans in, closing his eyes.
Crowley pulls his head back, a look on his face like what's happening?!
Aziraphale doesn't see it since his eyes are closed. He kind of stays in place, eyes squeezed shut, lips puckered.
Crowley's alarm fades as he stares at him. After a moment, he leans in.
Their kiss is soft. They're so in love and it's so sweet and domestic and tender I might cry
I think it could've been really nice

Soooo guess who took the secrets list and tried to predict who’s is who’s? Spoilers undercut.
The original image is on the right for reference
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok so I won’t go over the ones that were confirmed (J, Arei, Charles, Rose, and Nico) since it’s unlikely that the validity of those secrets will be brought into question. I’ll go over the reasons for my predictions below, in order of most confident to least confident
Xander
This falls in line from what we see from Xander in the Bonus episode. He’s a very self-blaming person and it would make sense that this would be both a massive source of guilt and a source of motivation behind his talent.
Min
In her bonus Episode it was revealed that Min and her family were receiving financial compensation in exchange for Min passing the Ultimate student test, and that mounting pressure could have led her to poisoning some top performing students so that they wouldn’t be able to take the test. Plus if this is accurate then it makes sense that min and Xander got each other’s secrets
Levi
Levi keeps referencing his family‘s past turmoil and also mentions living on his own, so if he had a toxic family I could see his departure potentially leading to the younger sister's death. He does mention specifically having brothers in one scene, but it’s possible that since she’s dead he didn’t want to bring her up.
Whit
Listen listen Whitt has spoke on multiple occasions how much he loves his mom, to the point where we know her name (Elizabeth I think), so to go and have it be revealed she’s dead would be the biggest most awful gut punch. He could also have the „i kissed a girl“ secret but he doesn’t seem very ashamed of his sexuality or his attraction to women.
Veronika
This one just felt like it fit Veronika Tbh. She is wearing those fingerless gloves, which could be covering up self-harm scars. The fact that it specifically mentions that the self harm was “for fun” does make me think of that one scene where Veronika was talking about how boring her plan for escape would be and how she would likely “do something very selfish”. Plus “horror fanatic” is the only talent that really fits with this secret.
Arturo
Since Arturo is so obsessed with beauty I could see him potentially developing dangerous eating habits because of it. He’s also wearing a mask and while at first I thought that it was because he was insecure about his looks, it could also be because his immune system is all fucked up due to him not taking care of himself. Speaking of his appearance he does seem rather lanky, however it’s unclear if that was intentional or not.
Teruko
This feels way too obvious. Like it fits perfectly with what we know so far, all the sussy foreshadowing and the note Xander got. But teruko flat out states that she doesn’t know which secret applies to her. If she can’t connect the dots there’s probably a good reason why. Regardless this probably should be at the top of the list, but something just doesn’t feel right.
Hu
Listen I really want sapphic Hu please just let me have wlw Hu just one (1) lesbian Hu pleas. Ok but in all seriousness Hu specifically stated that her secret was “embarrassing” and all the other secrets felt too heavy to be considered so lightly. Hu was also very vocal about supporting Nico and their identity, which could reflect the lack of support she fears for herself.
David
This goes along with what he said his secret was earlier, and if just left with the secrets this is likely the conclusion I would’ve come to. However the scene with him acting shady towards Teruko’s questions makes me hesitant to call this for certain. It’s possible he was just upset with everyone he makes friends with dying, but it’s also possible that he’s one shady motherfucker.
Eden
Just bear with me for a second, I know Eden’s the sweetest girl ever but she is just so so incredibly suspicious. Shes been following Teruko around this entire time and has been so friendly it feels fake. I’d also like to bring up how she blackmailed Teruko with the cactuses in order to get her to participate. Arei’s assessment of Eden might not have been that far off, it might actually come up in the trial.
Ace
I’ll be honest I have no clue with this one. I briefly considered Ace for the poison secret but discarded that since A. Min has better motivations and B. he stated that he hated his talent. I do think it would be ironic if Ace was a murderer, since he got so butthurt about Nico making good on their word.

Watched the new season of Black Mirror and like. I'm pretty meh on Black Mirror generally, I think it's overall good but not great
less cause it's wanky or fire-bad-Thomas-Edison-witch (I don't think it is either of those things and I think short film is the right format for speculative fiction and works really well, plus I'm always a slut for speculative fiction or horror anthologies) and more cause it's often a bit obvious and also I find the self conscious universe building a bit cringe (short stories can be standalone short stories! overarching narratives or crossovers are not necessary!)
but I gotta say off the back of the new series I really think the further away it gets from sci-fi the more I like it. mazey day was ok with a solid twist, loch henry was really effective and I truly found demon 79 really delightful (although that's like 90% cause I just think Anjana Vasan is such a great presence, loved her in We Are Lady Parts too).
whereas the most sci-fi one, the astronaut one, felt kind of stale and unfinished to me, like I knew from about 10 minutes in where every beat of the story was going, and it kept feeling like it wanted to say something about trad families or about fridging women or about trauma or about like. anything. but nah it was just exactly what it looked like, it was a mid 60s-style sci-fi/horror. it read like a Dick story and there clearly was some satirical intent there in the idea that both men were misogynistic and abusive in similarly veiled ways, but like. didn't go anywhere did it? still ended up fridging the women and framing the men as victims of their own brutality and if your story beat for beat could have been written 60 years ago, it's not exactly effective modern satire, is it?
the opener for the season was fine. fun. very classic-mode Black Mirror. I liked what it was doing but it was another one which felt slightly undercooked, like it had a lot of good ingredients but a lot of the episode was just treading water. it was a fun caper if a little cringe at times.
but yeah the non-scifi episodes worked a lot better for me. Demon 79 feels very Asimov but, unlike Beyond The Sea, it didn't feel outdated - it's got a really nice central conceit, engaging characters and it's constructed really well for me, plus the performances and aesthetics were strong. Mazey Day was simple but effective, really clear about its intents and again with some really engaging, fun performances. Loch Henry was just a good tight thriller with again some clear ideas to convey which I thought were on the nose but not obnoxious.
I think that there are some really strong Black Mirror episodes - 15 Million Merits, White Bear, Men Against Fire, Hang The DJ - and the common thread for the ones that work for me is that they have a really tight central concept and a strong idea of what the question they want to ask is. and tbh I think this is the strongest season because only one episode was actively cringe for me and there were 3 really tight ones. To me where the show consistently falls down is that it gets too invested in the Black Mirror Expanded Universe and the idea of what the show is 'meant' to be. Almost all the weakest episodes start with an on-the-nose piece of technology and end with 'hey if that happened would that be fucked up or what?'
I reckon that this season Brooker's been quite actively trying to get off the hook of 'Black Mirror Is About Phone Scary' and it's by a long way an improvement cause freed of the need to in any way shoehorn in a central technology the show's got solid space to find new core concepts and new ideas instead of 'what if there's a 15th fucked up thing you could do with memory recordings or perfect AI personality clones?'
like black mirror's always mostly been interested in a few core themes - voyeurism and panoptica, paranoia, self-perfection and performance, and what it takes to push people towards violence and when that's justified. a lot of the time the devotion to telling that through a really specific near-future sci-fi lens has been a bit of a millstone around its neck. this works better.

I love talking about SPN with you! Tough challenge if you're up for it: rank all 15 seasons from your personal favorite to least favorite, no ties allowed :) Have fun!
Oh dear. What a predicament you’ve put me in!
1. 1 (solid choice, me thinks. The vibes are Unparalleled. Introduced me to the LOML, Dean. Their early dynamics? Figuring out who they are, who the other is, who their family is? ugh. My heart. Also super interesting MootW episodes, charismatic, the cinematography deserves it’s own spot in the list, we feel like the Winchesters: operating from a shadowed world that’s interwoven with ours but also separate)
2. 2 (still the same vibes of the first but also angrier? there’s findings and secrets and an overachieving trama of trauma and family and grief and deep wounds from the past and revenge and worry. love it)
3. 4 (It makes me angry, sad, happy, hopeful, devastated, all of that at once and then more. I feel it’s one of the most fundamental stories to the plot of everything that comes later and it sets what came before against a solid background of the whole angels/demons/apocalypse/vessels/fate narrative, sets up a lot of the lore, it’s just genuinely good and enjoyable. Great television.)
4. 5 (The world is ending and we have no hope to stop it and yet we will? ugh. Also the reconnection of the boys. Fighting so hard for a goal that seems impossible and finding their way back tot he other. I feel this is when Cas becomes more friend than ally, which is lovely. The longing, the grief, the guilt, the horror, the hopeless and yet that doesn’t take away their fight in the end. Also In the End and Dark Side of The Moon are just. Spectacular. This one gets me every time)
5. 3 (so much angst. so much uncertainty. The unknowns. I feel this one isn’t higher only bc I watched already knowing the outcome or most of it in a way, bc I knew Dean would be alive and well for years to come bc I started when spn was further along, but for fans who watched on time? must have been a punch to the stomach).
6. 8 (I hadn’t realized how much I loved season 8 until today lol, lots of annoyances and grievances but still I enjoy and analyze it to death. I love love love Purgatory, the dynamics of the Purgatory Trio, BENNY, Kevin as a bigger character, the animosity between Sam and Dean (srsly, I think all the fics I have written mention/deal with this issue bc I’m just fascinated by both their headspaces in this and how it impacts them going forward. The trials are interesting although I felt they were a bit mishandled, and of course the many fallouts from it.)
7. 9 (same initial comment as season 8 tbh. I feel like early seasons dean is hanging on by a thread to the very end of his rope (trauma, pain, grief, etc etc) but he is hanging in there, ya know? And he wants to fight and he knows his whys. then as the years go on and the losses pile on and the pains and the more and more he’s backed into impossible corners he loses the will to hang on and I think this season is the one where we see in look at that rope and go “and why the fuck am I holding on to this?” and it’s painful and heartbreaking but also makes you cheer him on and wish for him to fet through this. I like the Bunker being a more established home base for them. I enjoy Abbadon and Metraton as antagonists although I do feel they ended up… Underwhelming? Underexplored? And Dean’s is one of my ‘favorite’ deaths the boys had. It’s so impactful and poignant.
8. 12 (I almost put it lower but alas, so many Dean/Dean-Mary dynamics moments I could not. Not the biggest fan of the BMoL but I see where they were going. I think bringing Mary back was a move that could have gone horribly wrong and in a sense I feel like it maybe wasn’t the most thematically consistent? but it allowed for fun explorations of many characters. Also, Regarding Dean is off the charts good.)
9. 6 (ohh the drama. the fallout. the would’ves should’ves could’ves. I have a love-hate relationship with soulless!sam that tends more towards love but overall a great one. I miss Lisa, there, I said it. I loved them together. I wanted them to remain that way. I loved seeing Dean be turned into a vamp, also.)
10. 10 (not much to say. I adore MoC and all about it, but I do wish some things were better handled/had more impact/were more thought out/better shown etc. Overall, great idea, not my favorite execution).
11. 11 (again, love parts, don’t love others so much. I will say, in my “dean lets go of his rope” analogy, this one is where I think he’s slowly starting to climb out of the hole he’s fallen into and see “his whys” more clearly again).
12. 7 (idk why people seem to hate 7 so much? I can’t say it’s supper impacting but it has it’s positives. And Bobby’s death! It’s so impactful, it’s genuinely a mark of splitting eras in my mind.)
13. 14. (Michael!Dean my dearest of dears. You were not here for long enough. Makes me angry and a little bitter but also great moments).
14. 13 (if you put a gun to my head I can’t recall season 13 specifically? felt like a “bridge” season ig, and I just… Don’t enjoy Jack. I know many people do, and you do you, absolutely! But he just felt like a shoehorned in deus ex machina wrapped in Cas’s more cute mannerisms and I just never connected with him or really enjoyed him as part of the family or the themes that followed his appearance).
15. (will never accept, will never like, will never enjoy, the ending is responsible for 97% of the hate for the whole season but tbh the forced “ohh look we’re meeetaaaa! it’s the lasssst sssseassssonnn” in your face level of annoyance didn’t make it all that great either. No but srsly don’t even get me started on the ending. I could spend an hour just incoherently babbling and crying and still not get my dislike across correctly).
This was quite tough, really. Thanks for the brain teaser, dearie!

sorry if I'm bothering you but I FINALLY FIND SOMEONE ELSE WHO PREFERS FTF BUT PURELY BECAUSE OF OUR LOVE FOR WILLOW (we're the only ones right about her) like yeah, it's DEFINITELY not a perfect episode but IT'S ABOUT THE CHARACTERS. and I LOVE TTT TOO BECAUSE OF LUZ but tbh I didn't like being in the fandom when TTT came out because THERE WAS SO MUCH STUFF ABOUT HUNTER, TO THE POINT WHERE PEOPLE THOUGHT HE SHOULD BE THE MC AND NOT LUZ??? I love my boy but I felt overwhelmed at all of this so him not getting too much in FTF was fine for me :)
Firstly, I'd like to say YES!! FOR THE FUTURE SOLOS!!! LITERALLY SOME OF THE BEST CHARACTER WORK, ART DIRECTION, SOUNDTRACK, BOARDING, HUMOUR AND HORROR IN THE WHOLE SHOW!!!
Secondly I'd like to say that this is SUCH a can of worms that I've held back on talking about for A While™. Tbh it kinda feels like u read my mind I was literally thinking about this this morning.
(BIG ASS RAMBLE UNDER THE CUT. I AM NOT JOKING THIS POST IS SO LONG IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY)
Both episodes are really fucking good, both on their own merit and when you take into account the circumstances under which they were made. I do not want to labour this point. I hate pitting two bad bitches against each other.
I AM however interested in investigating why, when two episodes are of similar quality, but with different priorities and focuses and (for lack of a better word) Vibe™ does the fandom demonstrably prefer one over the other?
Thanks to Them is BIG on plot. It's big on "establish what the kids have been doing, introduce Lore and Mystery, do the possession, fight the bad guy, get back to the demon realm, bada bing bada boom!!". I don't think it's nearly as relentlessly paced as some people think, and I think there are definitely emotional moments to be gleaned out of characters who AREN'T Luz, Hunter or Camilla- but overall it's similar to the most plot focused episodes of season 2. Your knock knock knocking on hootys doors and your hollow minds.
But for the future is a lot more concerned with character. Everyone gets some small moment to shine, though you're correct in saying that the focus is mostly on Luz, Willow and then probably the collector. But Camilla, Gus, Amity, Hunter, King, Eda and Lilith all get more emotional depth in a few lines than like. Willow did in half of thanks to them. even Belos gets more screentime this ep than he did in thanks to them, screentime that's much more illuminating (do love the moments he had in thanks to them but they weren't huge character moments really, just him villain-ing it up).
Less plot stuff happens, if you count the main goal as "get into the titans skull" then that's only introduced about a quarter of the way through the episode, whereas "get back to the human realm" is established as the goal of thanks to them in like. Negative screentime lmao. You basically know it's the goal coming in because you've watched king's tide already. For the future isn't like this!
And I GET IT MAN! checking in on the YouTube progress bar at the 3/4 of the way through elicited pure fear in me! But I feel like the fandoms fear of plots going unresolved and questions going unanswered has created this. Like. Attitude that the episodes need to be completely spartan or they're wasting time.
Like, with bringing back Boscha and Kikimora. Some people consider that a waste of time because they weren't Big Bads in seasons prior, meaning they should be low priority and don't belong here. And ppl are entitled to feel that way!
But I don't think you can call them wasted! Or irrelevant! I think the writers put a lot of work into making their storyline fit with the themes of the show! I have an essay I may never finish in drafts about this but- one of the most popular aspects of seasons 1 and 2 was the whole corrupt government storyline, which reached it's climax in king's tide but still had no resolution, same way hexside had no resolution from what happened after labyrinth runners. The writers combined these storylines by showing how hexside wasn't going to become a mini dictatorship like the isles old system (hence the title of the episode, changing things for the better "for the future"). That's efficient storytelling! Combining two plots into one in order to resolve both at the same time!
But people don't take this as an example of efficiency because it's not Lore or Plot based. And I think that's a real shame.
Both episodes have pacing and balance issues but I don't think one is especially egregious compared to the other? Nor do they have more pacing and balance issues than say, Clouds on the Horizon, which I'd say is one of MY least favouritely paced episodes of the show. Maybe thanks to them just had more novelty factor because of the setting (not to mention it probably benefitted from having one less subplot to juggle, but eh)
And about the fandom response after each episode....yeah. yeah.
I love Hunter. He's my baby. My scrimblo bimblo. He is like my twin brother. Literally. For reasons I cannot begin to explain here, hunter the owl house is like my twin brother.
And in all fairness to the fandom, plenty of people are normal about him. I know this because I've curated my experience to entirely be the people who are normal about him.
But the people who are not normal about him...my god.
Tbh I think this issue of focus actually lands on why I prefer for the future to thanks to them (THOUGH AGAIN. THEY BOTH SLAY)
The ending of thanks to them was so abrupt and emotionally charged that it felt like a betrayal, almost. The show went so hard and so fast that afterwards there was no breathing room and I didn't fully trust the show to be able to pull back afterwards. I thought either Hunter is going to eat up more and more screentime next episode by having to deal with the implications of every that happened five minutes from the episodes end, or they are literally never going to touch on him again. The ending of thanks to them was SO MUCH in so little time that I literally could not fathom a middle road.
Whereas the ending of for the future was a lot more. Aha, eureka! Moment to me. Like "OHH so that's what we're dealing with next episode!!! Nice". There was excitement and yeah, fear that things wouldn't land, but overall there was more trust in me. And of course, they did find a lovely medium between it being the Hunter show and addressing his trauma adequately. His arc was very emotional and satisfying this ep, without the borderline hard-to-enjoy turmoil that the ending of thanks to them put me through lol.
But I think, to some people, the sheer angst of thanks to thems ending was more emotionally rewarding than the well paced stability and slight ominousness of for the future. They felt that episodes end was too "mid". Too soft. The end of the show needs to go all out all the time, so this episode that focused more on emotional arcs and early season callbacks and payoffs is weak.
And to be honest, maybe my analysis here isn't as in-depth or as in-touch with fandom complaints as it could be! I've generally avoided the people harshly criticizing for the future because I like it when fandom is fun. I don't like watching one of my favorite episodes to date get dunked on. But that in and of itself (combined with the leak situation) has led to an inability to really Go All Out with fandom engagement rn. It's a struggle!
I've seen people describe for the future as en episode where Everything happened, and yet nothing happened. I get why! I personally prefer it to thanks to them because I feel like too much happened during that episodes climax to the point where it didn't even feel like the episode had true resolution.
But also, I get that for a lot of people, it's not even about construction. It's just about expectation and preference. People weren't expecting hexside, and when they got it, they got upset. People weren't expecting Willow, and when they got it, they didn't like it. And I get that. Really I do.
But this show is so fuckin wild. It does so much and throws so many curve balls at you. Never the big twists either, always the shit u don't expect. And it's great. I've honestly grown really fond of the way this show pokes me in the ass with something I didn't really expect or consider.
Not everybody is though and like. That's fine. But I do wish sometimes people would just. Kinda. Let it go when something goes in a direction they didn't expect. Because I didn't expect the direction FTF went in at all and I loved it once I stopped to think about it. But that's just me.
I think this is only like. 25% a direct response to things you said in the ask, so to conclude by answering/engaging with your ask point by point:
Willow stans and For the Future stans unite. This is our nation. Also shout-out to the fellow willow understanders I am mutuals with/follow you guys were really keeping us going in the pre for the future times
It's not a perfect episode but circumstances considering, it never could've been, and I'm okay with most of the ways it falls short. I'm also fully willing to hold out and see whether or not watching and dreaming rectifies any of my complaints, considering several of the issues I took with thanks to them were solved this ep, lol
Luz and Camilla literally stole the show in thanks to them and while I understand that the ending of that ep was very hunter centric, hence the hunter centric fandom atmosphere afterwards, I do prefer the environment in fandom rn that's appreciating this mother daughter duo rn
Hunter is not a main character imo. Not because he couldn't be but because his story is rendered infinitely more interesting when he is a supporting character. It's one thing to tell us that Hunter lives for other people and is made to forever be a second- best underling. It's another thing to show us this with his narrative role as the ultimate foil. He Is Better Off This Way. Also this point is dumb but I fully believe Hunter would be miserable as a main character. He does not want this
Also Luz is genuinely one of my favorite main characters in television. Maybe ever. If I start talking about her we'll be here all day. Just look at literally anything sepublic has written about her it's all on point
For the future had the perfect amount of Hunter content tbh. No episode should have more or less. I'm banging my gavel like a judge decreeing this to be so

monthly media recap: may 2023
the lusty month of May! this one is gonna be long
read:
The Terror by Arthur Machen - a properly unsettling short novel about strange murders happening in England and Wales during World War II. I gotta say, I think the narrator is wrong :D as in, based on the story, I have a slightly different opinion on the cause of what happened
The Great Return by Arthur Machen - a novella about the reappearance of the Holy Grail in a small Welsh village; short, but beautiful
The Empty House and Other Ghost Stories by Algernon Blackwood - not bad apart from, as usual, certain period-typical yikes, but after Machen and M.R. James it just doesn't seem as good, and the endings to many stories felt too abrupt to me. However, I am a big fan of the character whose rooms were haunted by his friend's ghost, so he went to his other friend's place to study because "there's no hallucination about that exam; I must pass that whatever happens."
Issues No. 1-3 of the Hellebore zine - yep, still reading this, still in an absolutely random order. Witch trials, poison plants, the cult of Pan and other good shit; I've bookmarked the names of some books I might give a try later. I feel like the articles in earlier issues were more, uh, informal and essay-like and became more scientific as the zine continued to be released, which I think is a good change tbh
Temeraire series, Books 4-7 (Empire of Ivory, Victory of Eagles, Tongues of Serpents, and Crucible of Gold) by Naomi Novik - hell yeah! I started this series in 2019 (I believe?), read the first three books, loved them, but then kind of forgot to continue. Catching up on it now and greatly enjoying the alternate history (in very broad strokes: Napoleonic wars with sentient DRAGONS in the air force), constant adventures, anti-colonialist themes, and the extremely likeable cast.
+ progress on Lancelot-Grail: done with The Quest for the Holy Grail, The Death of Arthur, and the first part of Post-Vulgate (The Merlin Continuation). Currently reading the Post-Vulgate version of the Grail quest and Book 8 of of Temeraire - Blood of Tyrants
watched:
Daisy Jones & The Six (2023) - there were changes in comparison to the book that I liked (loved Simone's storyline in the show, for example) and that I disliked. I think the novel and the adaptation work together best. The soundtrack is amazing, and the original songs are very good even out of context
Valkoinen peura / The White Reindeer (1952) - older horror films often are more haunting than the newer ones despite limited special effects and mostly relying on things like lighting and music - or maybe because of that - and this Finnish film is a good example of that. God forbid women do anything (turn into a murderous reindeer)
November (2017) - fascinating folk horror set in 19th century Estonia - mundane magic, deals with the devil, and the unrequited love no spells can fix. Beautiful and sad and very well-made
Yellowjackets (season 2, 2021-?) - AAAAAAA!!! I know many people found this season much worse than s1, but I honestly enjoyed it, even if I didn't agree with all decisions (they better do something unexpected about Van's cancer, or I'll be mad). The finale is devastating, but I kinda expected that to happen :( it was one of the most likely character deaths. Alas, the only one of these women I'd be ready to let go is the one who's certainly not dying unless they all die in the end (which is not that unlikely, I guess). Anyway, this is one of my favourite shows at the moment, and I'm really excited for season 3 (and the mysterious bonus episode?..)

🎃 Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi (10/7-x) overall, not what i expected, but not bad. only got thru half the series in spooky month, will finish eventually.
ep1 (10/7): kinda slow, but not boring. the final shot of the woman in the doorway gave me goosebumps.
ep2 (10/10): first third/half SUPER effective for me, esp the whole part where ichikawa's flashlight would turn off at the same point in the room. creepy. but then the last part was genuinely ?????? super intriguing but idk really what happened? the metaphysical/scifi aspects weren't ~scary~ to me but i keep thinking abt the episode so
ep3 (10/10): monster horror isnt my thing so eh, but the revelation at the end that those 2 characters are slowly turning into kappa like its an infection was neat.
ep4 (10/11): favorite so far, loved the spatial/time manipulation. but the scene of them time traveling. lol. lmao even.
ep5 (10/11): really liking how each episode is its own thing but clearly pointing to something bigger connecting everything. real curious abt what kudo "sees" since his coma incident.
ep6 - 10: DNF. didn't grip me compared to other stuff i wanted to watch, will finish at my own pace eventually.

🎃 milk and serial (10/12) liked. flew by, didn't feel like an hour+. mc was super creepy & unhinged. acting felt real & natural. liked the twists. i think naomi & link finding milk's box w/ address to his torture shack was by his design. sequel maybe?
🎃 the void (10/12) liked. FANTASTIC practical effects, wowzers. kinda okay story, more aesthetics than plot but w/e. BIG silent hill vibes though a cult facilitating a "god" to be born, resurrection/reincarnation, physical manifestations of guilt and grief, etc. but like.... spacey/cosmic horror. v different from most mid-2010s or even modern day horror and i appreciate that.
🎃 the empty man (10/13) idk. intriguing but i really dont get the whole part about the people committing suicide. i feel like this is one of those movies i need to deep dive ppls meta analysis to really ~get it~. bc i don't really. honestly my favorite part was the very beginning w the freaky skeleton. what is he transmitting............
🎃 noroi: the curse (10/13) eh. kinda slow. unclear on certain plot points: what was the significance of kana being psychic and drawing that symbol/face/mask? what's up with the boy - another medium? hori was v distracting and borderline exploitative. liked how the seemingly disjointed segments started to connect together, but unfortunately didnt go all the way (see ? above) and too much unresolved. seen better japanese horror and found footage horror tbh sorry
🎃 late night with the devil (10/14) first off -1000000 for using genAI fuck that. second, god the beginning was as boring & cringey as a real late night talk show. which like, yeah ofc but also. i dont want to watch that so no ty. but lilly's appearance at the end was v cool, split head, coursing electrical energy. really liked that a lot. overall better than i thought it was gonna be, but just to the side of okay.
🎃 lake mungo (10/19) quite sad. being haunted by your future death reminds me of nell from haunting of hill house. alice meeting with the psychic and seeing from the perspective of her ghost in the future, paralleled with her mother in the future doing the same and not sensing alice anymore.... big sad. :( some of the spooky stuff did get to me. the recording of alice seeing her future dead body and the reveal that the neighbor was lurking in the house in one of the recordings especially. wtf grossssssss. overall more sad than scary, but i liked it. more effective for me than i thought it would be after reading reddit posts hating it. i feel like i need to be a defender of it now lmao

🎃 midnight mass overall: forgive me father for i have sinned 🫦 -- dunno if it unseats hill house as my favorite flanagan show but damn it was fantastic.
ep1 (10/19): interesting. if i didnt already know it was abt vampires id be scratching my head rn. the final shot of the cats on the beach was laughable, and thats coming from a sensitive bitch who cant stand animal deaths in horor & frequently uses doesthedogdie lmao ....... rahul kohli can absolutely get it tho
ep2 (10/20): ok first off that whole bit about "pregnant people" was weird af and completely unnecessary. coulda just normalized inclusive language but instead we gotta draw attention to "umm actually ☝️🤓 its usually pregnant women". w/e. -- i think the cats were killed as sustenance (neck wounds), but idk abt the dog being poisoned? the vamp(s) just trying to get rid of the animals on the island so they dont act odd/pick up on the vamps? or smth specifically targeting that one guy, by the nun lady? hmm. -- was the (i presume) vamp stalking the pregnant lady from her house to the clinic bc it could sense her breakthru bleeding??? uew. -- the mimic of the voice near the end was a banger omg so creepy, and i love the reflective eyes v v v good. -- re leeza walking, something in the wine???
ep3 (10/20): is monsignor pruitt this new father paul????? fountain of youth ayoooo. but is he the vampire? nah hes the renfield aint he. what was with the trunk of dirt? ohhh ancestral soil ofc -- theory: the sheriff is gonna be the one to cotton on to smth being wrong bc he doesnt go to the church/drink the wine -- the scene between leeza & joe was so powerful, wow..... -- was father paul poisoned like the dog? kinda bummed if hes dead for good i thought for sure he was gonna be one of the (the only?) antagonists nvm lol, immortal? -- also comparing a vampire to an angel, esp in this context, is sick as hell, love that -- honestly getting big salems lot vibes which i do NOT hate at all tbh, also a bit of exorcist thrown in with the middle east and ruins and smth ~evil~ there
ep4 (10/21): ohhh is monsignor turning into a vampire? sun sensitivity.... -- noooo poor joe :( -- what is up with erin's "miscarriage"/never having been pregnant and her blood reacting to the sun when afair she never drank the wine? -- and riley too damn........
ep5 (10/21): oh hey well guess thats where the title comes from lol -- not, like, super duper crazy with the loooooong chunks of monologue tbh. sometimes it hits like with riley & monsignors back and forth over guilt but other times ehhhh -- speaking of, anyone else down bad for the priest or just me? ok nvm -- so far it seems the og vamp only ate from the stray cats, bowl (bill) and riley so far (maybe the mayor & wife but unclear), and it seems like its been a couple weeks since it arrived so the hunger must not be THAT insatiable, for like 99% of the town population to remain (relatively) unharmed? like, if everyone or even just MOST of them are turned, who they gonna eat? -- on the one hand riley being greeted in death by the uninjured form of the girl he killed in a car crash is beautiful. oh the other hand subjecting the love of your life to watching you burn to fucking death and now shes gonna row back to land with ur smoldering corpse is like. supremely fucked up riley. like i get that erin has to ~see to believe~ but what the hell man. the credits rolling and listening to her screams..... D:
ep6 (10/31): so it's not just the consumption of a vampires blood that makes one a vampire, but death as a catalyst for resurrection. holy shit i love that, flanagan you mad man. -- oh shiiiiit mildred shooting former lover priest in the head damn bitch okay -- bev you pussy ass bitch wont even drink the poison smh my head
ep7 (10/31): "it never felt like a sin, you never felt like a sin and our daughter was never a sin" aoughhhh this got me cryin -- was really rooting for the sheriff to make it out alive :( -- never been religious and have 0 religious trauma but god damn this show got me good, weeping all thru the end
──────────────୨ৎ────────────── ꒦꒷⭑ ࣭ ๋︶꒦꒷︶꒦꒷⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆꒷꒦︶꒷꒦︶ ๋ ࣭ ⭑꒷꒦ ──────────────୨ৎ──────────────
🎃 rosemary's baby (10/22) regrettably by roman polanski, but 🏴‍☠️ so eh. overall i really liked it. i had seen bits and pieces and i feel this is one of those medias that you kind of know through osmosis, but it was still an enjoyable watch, if not disturbing at times. tho minnis voice and mannerisms reminds me of vic's nana from very important people lmaoooo i cant unsee/hear it
🎃 event horizon (10/22) so far INCREDIBLE visuals, giving big hellraiser vibes with the disfigured/cut up bodies & the elaborate incomprehensible yet decorative engine brings to mind a mix of the lament configuration and biblically accurate angels. incredible. -- why only trauma hallucinations from a few of the crew? the rest were just peachy keen? not a smidge of trauma? bummer tbh -- hot damn the gore visuals are blink and u miss it but sick as hell -- but what happened with justin? rescue crew said he was alive but like.... mentally???? -- pacing felt just a titch off, like shtf so close to the end i feel like the descent could have been smoother, but otherwise i really loved this one
🎃 the exorcist (book) (10/1 - 10/23) liked WAY more than i thought i would. gonna be 4 stars for reference. 2 things i disliked: chris' internal monologues were annoying and shes more than a bit of a yuppie (the point i guess), AND the fact that psychokinesis is just a FACT in this world (ie possession can't be concluded by moving objects / mind reading bc those are observable in clinical settings in ppl with mental issues) bothered me so much!!! like..... if a DEMON can read your mind, move objects, as established w regan, you can't just chalk it up to NO WAY being possession. wtf???? anyway, everything else was great. really liked the reveals (regan's paint found at the church desecration, regan speaking backwards & mentioning merrin before he's even seen on page). the foreshadowing of karras' demise. very disturbing scenes iykyk, and even the detective parts were fun in the end. dunno if i'll read the sequel (legion) but i've heard the show is v good? 👀
🎃 hell house llc (10/25) 1 (10/25): love, it's a classic at this point, most of the scares dont get to me but surprisingly a few still do, solid ending 2 (10/25): kind of worse acting than the first but still liked, enjoy where the overarching plot is going re drawing people to the house 3 (10/25): definitely upped the production value, the scene of the actress in the basement with the clown is top tier but otherwise it was okay. first is still the best tbh, feels like they explained too much and im more of a fan of ambiguity. since the first 3 films take place in the same building, there's a weird feeling of familiarity & coziness lmao, i could see this series being a comfort rewatch fr origins (10/26): margot was definitely at the fair where tully/cult was kidnapping ppl for the abaddon hotel sacrifices, huh. -- did NO ONE think to check rebecca's cam w/ the body on the bed???? like they've seen other proof of the supernatural but cmon -- ohh that whole scene of rebecca screensharing w her boss and the pictures leading right up to her bedroom door grossssssss bleghhhh i love it -- overall liked this one a lot. still confused abt some stuff (where was the dad's body? why was patrick's arm better? his place in the cult, are the souls (patricks?) bound to the clown costumes etc), but super effective horror for me. sometimes i dont need all the qs answered u know?
🎃 the outwaters (10/26) ppl on reddit said they hated this as much as skinamarink & both are deathly boring but i LOVED skinamarink so lets gooooo -- 38 minutes in. is like...... no one going to aknowledge these sounds???? -- i get the bugs being creepy but are these donkeys supposed to be ominous? bc they just look like sweet cute babies 2 me -- these are the WORST flashlights in the entire world my GOD. -- suddenly, screaming flesh snakes. sure why not -- ooohh space time fuckery? is robbie the axe man? -- i literally cannot see what's happen 90% of the time, its like trying to watch a movie through a pinprick. like near the end he could have been pointing a flashlight at a bbq beef brisket for all i could tell. certainly a choice meant to invoke the claustrophobia and isolation and confusion of the pov, but missed the mark. by a lot. -- theres some neat ideas in here (time travel/time loop where robbie is the one killed and also the killer, with cosmic horror to boot), if i could see anything. loved skinamarink, super effective for me and though it was grainy at least you could SEE, this was. eh. i will say the sound design was great. would have loved to see literally any part of the entity near the end that's making it! the end itself was actually good imo, grotesque but better than seeing a 90% black screen tbh. potential.
🎃 lovely, dark, and deep (10/29) very interesting visuals, kinda cosmic horror in the woods. reminiscent of the "stairs in the woods" and "search and rescue" nosleep stories. also big PT vibes, especially in the scenes in the house, very cyclical/loop in nature but different traumatic events each go thru. love a horror movie that doesnt hold your and and leaves the interpretation up to the viewer. backrooms-esque liminal space? purgatory? mc processing her grief and trauma? dream sequence? hell? are the woods just real fucked up in this natl park? yes. (unfortunately?) it was kinda explained at the end, but i still really liked it. i dunno now the mc could keep working as a ranger, knowing that they just.... let this shit happen. and to perpetuate it....... i do wonder abt the ranger in the beginning, making the choice to get taken. what was his story?
🎃 a house at the bottom of a lake (10/29 - 10/31) 4.5 stars. idk what exactly happened, but i really loved it. great atmosphere (dark, under water, claustrophobic - frankly do not understand people who say this isnt horror lmao), easy to read in a day, perfect for halloween (when I read it). i interpret the ending as james and amelia still being under the obsession of the house, possibly still underwater. like the past 12-or-so days was a "test" of some sort. what finding the house in the real world means, i dont know, but i'm all for horror not holding my hand and it just being about ~the vibes~ which this one nailed for me. the scenes where the flashlights go off? and then house lights turn on? chilled. incredible what you can enjoy when u dont have a hater yappin in ur ear that it sucks <3

Not him inviting his friend over😭 A deep clean is always so satisfying! I hope you'll be able to still recharge a bit plus I support hiding for a bit!Oh that sounds pretty good!! And it just makes sense you would be most excited for the veggies and honestly i'm excited for you lol
I think that it’s very easy for most shows to lose their way so I totally get it! Anyways I also LOVED cake boss as a kid!! Buddy was like a GOD in my eyes HAHA
I would CRY if someone said that to me omg that's so sweet😭But yeah i get how seeing your students struggle can be difficult but I guess it is a good thing that she likes you at least! Like that has to mean something lol Though I can only imagine what goes on in her head so hopefully she can out grow constantly being in drama lol
NOT BANK OF AMERICA HAHA I honestly don't blame her! I have heard many horror stories from that place so in this case I say that’s so valid lol
Us together in person would just be TOO powerful(i LOVE that for us) !!! which is why the universe put us on opposite sides of the country lol. I seriously try to edit out “unnecessary” details through my responses but I fear in person my train of thought is not linear when I'm comfortable 😭 People have also lost the meaning of a good filler episode and long seasons! I can argue so much how streaming has changed the way people appreciate shows/movies which is crazy!
Sadly I only get one class with a break :( which is CRAZY considering I'm sure the professors don’t enjoy these long ass classes either?! But I don’t think it’s weird at all! I felt good about this decision ultimately because I receive aid from the state and that only lasts for 4 years so it’s a MUST that I need to be done on time! Plus even though it may not seem like it, compared to how i was even a year ago, i am in a better place so I did take some time to think about it lol And I totally get you!! You’re a perfectionist and if you feel like this is how you’ll be in therapy then it would probably feel more like a burden for you. I used to have a similar fear too when I first started therapy when I was younger so you’re not weird for thinking that at all! But the right therapist for you will never make you feel like that trust me! It’s definitely a process and please NEVER FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO STAY WITH ONE OUT OF OBLIGATION! If you have any doubts even after the first session, trust your gut! It’s annoying of course with insurance and all that but it never hurts to try! Oh bestie do I have a surprise for you my therapist is a MAN 😭he’s the first guy therapist i’ve had and I was honestly never wanting one tbh but at the time I was just SO desperate to start therapy again that I caved lol I too hate men most of the time and I lowkey feel uncomfortable sometimes around them but obviously he doesn’t make me feel like that lol I think that he’s definitely helped me a lot and idk it’s been very helpful in this stage of my life lol Hope that if/when you start therapy that you’ll be able to find someone who understands you and sees you for all that you are, which is a lovely person!
YAY TO ONE MORE WEEK!! YOU GOT THIS!! I do understand your frustration though with kids still managing to fail. Even though I'm sure the majority of teachers try to make it as easy as possible while still trying to teach them as much as they can. It also sucks if they don’t communicate if they might be struggling with the content and/or stuff in their personal life so that just doesn’t help. I know that you try your best and really there can be only so much done with the circumstances! I totally get it!
AWW OMG OUR ANNIVERSARY TOO?! SAM THAT’S SO SWEET OMG 😭😭😭literally that story gave me the courage to ask for my emoji and I will always be so grateful that you let us read your stories!!
Btw i'm gonna have to talk about most part 3 in a different ask bc this is already too long lol-💜
Haven't had the veggies yet, but the friend is gone THANK GOD. I didn't like him very much (he wasn't creepy or anything, but just not my cup of tea) I like most of my bf's friends. This one has a habit of rubbing people the wrong way.
I jus thought the crazy cakes were so fun! Buddy was hilarious and I loved the family dynamics 😂 reminded me of home 💀
When she's being annoying I think about how she said that to me. She also will come in and yell at younger students when they're acting stupid in class and put them in their place because she's high key terrifying 😭😭 But naturally I bought her a book this weekend so she would do her summer reading. Trying to get her to connect with her studies and shit. I need her to graduate but I'm worried she's going to be on the 6-year track if she doesn't get her shit together 😂😂
I LOVE THAT FOR US TOO!
Bro, there's no WAY your professors enjoy glazed-over faces for three hours. I give my kids breaks after like TWENTY MINUTES hahahaha My attention span is shot after an hour. Ah, nothing like financial aid to push you into an absolute FRENZY of a timeline ugh. It will totally be worth it--I think, I feel that way about my degrees anyway. I tell people all the time I'm glad I grew up poor I wouldn't have been able to afford college. "The hassle was worth the tassel" and all that.
A MAN?! I'm actually really pleased with this fact. I'm sure he's very capable--especially if you've chosen to stick with him. I knew they were capable of empathy 😂
I appreciate all the tips and thoughts! I've heard that before and I actually saw a character on my show trying out different therapists and my cousin also mentioned it to me. So I'm willing to shop around. But YES, I think you described it perfectly! I would def feel like a burden to please someone else in my life but I know you're right--with the right therapist I won't feel that way.
It just feels like my fault. Like I'm not doing enough. But also I don't know how to make them care. That's my issue during the regular school year too. I feel like the students I have a terrifying, growing apathetic nature toward things. Maybe it's just my age but they don't seem to like sports, movies/TV, or ANYTHING. I know I joke, but I'm not exactly old and I have SUCH a hard time relating to them sometimes. I also feel bad for all my coworkers because I'm CONSTANTLY asking for reassurance because I feel so defeated and whatnot. But anyway. I'm excited for the week to be done and then I'll have a chunk of weeks to myself reading and preparing new lessons and shit before the school year starts. It's far to think in advance and I will def miss the $ but I'm strongly considering taking next summer off.
You are the sweetest! 💕 I'm so glad to share them. I find it so therapeutic to hide behind my screen and let you all read my inner thoughts 😭
hope you have a good week! I imagine you're rapidly approaching finals for your first two classes 😭 best of luck (not that you'll need it!) 💕
xoxo

X-Men ‘97 Spoilers Below the Cut
I don’t know about y’all but I’m feeling TOTALLY NORMAL about the way the most recent episode ended.
Glad to see Magneto’s still around, but damn I love me a fucked up homoerotic borderline torture scene sometimes.
Can’t wait to see him waste this dude.
Also, I am not up to speed on all the X-Men lore but don’t they have time travel? I feel like if there was ever a time to use it, it would be now? I was just really surprised to see them burying everyone.
Magneto is my #1 X-Man tho. Really digging his vibe right now with all the fucked up political bullshit going on in real life.
—-
X-Men spoilers have ended. Now I’m just yapping.
—-
I feel like this show hits the LGBTQ+ experience beats pretty well at times. I’m behind the times on the rep there. I was never super into X-Men, though I watched the cartoons growing up. It took me a while to delve back into the movies too because I got hardcore body horror freaked out when that dude got liquified in the first one.
My tolerance for that kind of thing used to be waaaay lower than it is now. I had to leave the theater because the gore at the beginning of Zombieland gave me a literal panic attack, haha. I didn’t start watching The Walking Dead until like 2015 for the same reason. Thankfully that kind of thing doesn’t really bother me anymore. It’s weird now to think back to how it used to.
Of course movie theaters in general used to give me panic attacks. It was almost a guarantee for a while that if I went into a movie theater, I was gonna have one. Zombieland was the first and maybe only time I ever had to leave because of one though. Usually I’d just pretend like nothing was happening as far as my friends were concerned and just force my way through them.
Tbh, Ted Lasso was the first time I felt I saw a really good representation of what a panic attack could feel like. Internally it’s like your world is falling apart around you, but externally it can be pretty innocuous unless you’re having major physical symptoms. If you have them often enough, you get pretty good at masking them. I’ve had them loads of times around family and friends and didn’t tell anyone.
Thankfully I don’t have panic attacks nearly that often anymore. And yes, I 100% probably should have said something to my loved ones at the time. But it can be hard when you know you’re experiencing something that isn’t rational and there’s not really anything they can do to help except ride the wave alongside you.
True, some triggers for panic attack can be pretty distressing. But I’ve definitely had them other times where I was just annoyed as hell that my body decided to randomly throw an anxiety party and it’d just be a matter of waiting it out.
Tbh, birth control really helped with mine for a while. I had really bad PMDD and my panic attacks were almost like clockwork with my cycle. I used to dread the impending doom I’d feel as I got closer to the date. I went from having panic attacks multiple times a month to only every so often. Antidepressants have been a godsend on that front too. I had no idea they also worked with anxiety because I never took them specifically for it until 2022.
I got massively sidetracked, but I really enjoy talking about mental health on here. It helps me reflect and process a lot. Sometimes it feels like just casually talking about it takes away some of fear and self-stigma away. That’s also one of the main things I’ve been learning about in therapy, not engaging in avoidance thoughts/behaviors when it comes to my OCD.
That also reminds me of what Marcus says a lot on LPOTL. “Mental illness isn’t your fault, but it is your responsibility.” It fucking sucks, but it’s true. In my experience, there’s a huge difference between interacting with someone who’s actively trying to live with their mental illness rather than choosing to ignore it and refusing to seek treatment.
Not that seeking and finding the right treatment and meeting your mental illness head on are easy things to do. It’s a bit privileged to say that. But as someone who didn’t get treatment for most of their life because they didn’t realize they needed treatment (“my symptoms aren’t that bad, it’s just a little anxiety, my prior attempts to seek help blew up in my face, x family member has this and is fine, etc”), lemme just tell ya I bet I am a much more enjoyable person to be around now.
I’m lucky in that I don’t believe I’ve ever lost any family or friends over my previously untreated mental illness. However, I know that I’m a hell of a lot happier and fun to be around when I’m on my medications and receiving regular therapy. I’m far less likely to subject others to my doom spirals and obsessive thoughts. I would get sick of talking about them, so I can only imagine how my captive audience felt.
Sure, there’s more I could be doing, but at least I have a pretty solid foundation under me now. I’m hoping to continue to build on it in time.

The Invasion of Time
If it hadn't been for the last episode, I think this would have been in the rankings of top five Classic serials for me tbh
The opening act is fantastic, full of mysterious intrigue that demands a viewer's full attention. The audience is never meant to actually believe that the Doctor is betraying Gallifrey, but that they keep the pretense up for two entire episodes works really well to draw us in
The middle two episodes, where it's finally revealed what the Doctor's plan is, are also excellent. You see the various threads sprinkled through the earlier two episodes come together and get to enjoy some good old-fashioned alien butt kicking
The depiction of the Time Lords was a lot better in this serial too. They kept the allegorical aspects of British bureaucracy but they added in portions of the previous omnipotence that made them so interesting originally. Borusa was especially a stand out character, one of my favorites
Leela was also at her absolute best here. Throughout the season, the Doctor growing to trust Leela's role as companion and skill as a fighter has been really excellently shown. He continually put more and more responsibility on her shoulders and she always excelled under the pressure, all paying off in this serial. When he exiles her, she knows it's part of a plan of his and just does what she does best, find and lead a revolutionary army. He trusts her with the Great Key and to be able to operate the Tardis on minor levels. All in all, it's such an excellent showing of her character and before the final episode, I was really confused why she's not considered one of the greats.
I even liked the penultimate episode with the Sontaran reveal. I really was expecting like, the Daleks or something not these goofballs but it worked really well and the first episode they're in adds to the menace rather than detracting from it
And then the final episode really drops the ball. On a most basic level, the episode isn't very good. 10+ minutes of the characters wandering around the Tardis, with no sense of dramatic awe about that fact either to keep us engaged. It's just a really bad, slow chase scene until the McGuffin can be built
But its even worse on thematic levels tbh. For one thing, the Doctor's ultimate plan being a supergun just feels wrong. I know that the Classic Doctor is much less of a pacifist than the New Doctor, but even with that in mind he's rarely willingly turned to a superweapon as his end plan, especially not since 3. It was an easy way out that felt very inconsistent with the character the Doctor has grown to be
Leela was done even worse though. When the Doctor gave her the Great Key, it really felt like a beautiful moment of him entrusting her with something extremely important. Then not only is there no payoff for that moment, like the Sontarans overlooking her because she's human or something, but the Doctor then just takes it from her and gives it to another person? So the emotional resonance of the previous scene is ruined and also accomplished nothing
The worst part of it all is that this was her final serial, and she was written so well until all that. AND they defaulted to the fucking "companion falls in love" trope that is already so overdone and tiresome in this show and also was so poorly foreshadowed I laughed when it was revealed. She barely interacted with the man she supposedly fell in love with after like, episode two AND he's a Time Lord??? She's a human??? If they're going to be in love you can sure as hell they wouldn't be allowed to stay on Gallifrey what??????
I'm not the type of viewer who will let a bad ending ruin what was otherwise a really great story but it is really baffling and disappointing that it did end so poorly
Season 15 in general kinda felt like this tbh overall. A lot of high moments let down by weird and bad writing decisions
Horror of Fang Rock. Doctor Who is at its best when it does horror and this was one of the best pieces of horror in the show
The Invisible Enemy. The introduction of K9 and the silliness of the Doctor and Leela shrinking make this a favorite of mine
The Invasion of Time. If it wasn't for that darn last episode this would have been number one
The Sun Makers. The comedy wasn't really my thing but I'm always down for a return to Pertwee-era-style political commentary
Image of the Fendahl. I need to rewatch this one tbh because for some reason I can remember NOTHING about it other than "I liked it"
Underworld. While I did enjoy the dynamic of the Tardis trio, the rest of the serial was really basic

( Non spoiler review)
yeah gotta agree. I mean it was an enjoyable SMG4 episode but for a WOTFI episode, idk. Only way I can explain it is it felt a-little- unfinished? Seemed like they had a lot of ideas but couldn’t do them all. I remember when it ended I said out loud “wait it’s done?”
I don’t think it was awful, it had that sorta vibe of the old WOTFIs, sorta just challenges and silly times. I don’t think WOTFI 2023 being such an absolutely gem helps this one either, we have it fresh in our mind of how good that one was. But one noticeable difference I saw was preparation time. Seemed like with 2023 they had a lot of prep time they had the idea early on and they built up to it perfectly. I think it was a matter of being rushed and time limits that made 2024 feel a bit unfinished. I mean if you look back at 2023 and saw how insane the planning was?? Like live streams with little snippets and animations in between all for the planning?? I honeslty wasn’t sure what they were gonna do with this years WOTFI and I guess with Mr puzzles popularity, it was a no brainer to try and center WOTFI around him. I think they may have even felt pressured to center it around him because they didn’t have enough time to really think of anything else, the end goal was approaching fast, and he was right there. Which is fine, it just was, alright.
I think OP says it well, it defiantly was presented as a more horror like theme. I honestly had more hype for the trailer tbh.. it would’ve been nice to see them all be conscious and terrified of what MR puzzles is doing to them. I understand it’s hard to balance character interactions, but I would’ve loved to see more talking and interactions with the characters other than just the challenges themselves.
I don’t blame the team. It appears they were rushed and I’m sure a lot of people will enjoy this WOTFI, I also am just, not a BIG fan of Mr. puzzles? He’s a mixed bag for me, I either really enjoy his episodes or don’t care for them. I wish they went all out with his villainy for this however. But it was a fun WOTFI :) not the best but it wasn’t terrible. Just a bit messy.
I just know the fandom will get ugly soon, and all I ask is just, be considerate. Providing constructive feedback is good as long as it’s not in a way that is straight up just rude. There’s a lot of pressure in this team especially with them now running a very popular animation channel. I’m in the starwars fandom, I’ve been disapointed more times than I can count, but the difference between starwars and SMG4 is that starwars is run by a company with insane amounts of money and talent and somehow still occasionally produces rushed, unfinished, uninspired, Cash grabbing slop. Smg4 is a team of indie animators and some silly guys making a show that’s FREE for us to watch. I can’t bring myself to be too upset with them, because that will only put more pressure on the team, and also most likely more harsher working conditions trying to appease the masses. Give them grace and patience, I think that’s all we can ask for. They can only grow if we allow them too. Smg4 is not new to ups and downs, so give them the support they need to flourish, and provide the criticisms that will help them be better. There’s always more to learn, even when you’re as big as a channel as smg4, just don’t be a jerk about it.

WOTFI 2024 SPOILERS & THOUGHTS UNDER CUT
Sorry to be ungrateful but it was… just okay.
5 or 6/10 for me at the very most.
Not as disappointing as the end of the meme factory stuff but still very underwhelming. The trailer & teasers gave horror vibes that hyped us up big time but that energy was only there for one short scene. It was almost entirely the lawsuit trio character-wise among the gang, outside of challenges everyone else barely appeared or said anything.
And puzzles still isn’t fucking dead. goddammit just kill him already. He’s in a max security prison but if Marty could break out I’m sure he’ll find a way too.
I can’t believe they did a (failed) attempt to start to redeem him toward the end, even after that scene they made it clear that he’s still evil. Looks like things STILL aren’t over with him.
I really liked the song though, so there’s that. And I liked everyone’s outfits while being controlled, particularly 3’s. Poster’s cool too. That’s about all I can say positively, sorry.

/r/SpikeSpiegel
character: spike spiegel
content warnings: none
reader: a bit of a simp. gender neutral
notes: in “cowboy funk” someone recognized spike, and he seemed quite proud about this fact. also, in the first few episodes, he was portrayed noticeably differently before they decided he shouldn’t act so “young” (y’know, to look “cooler,” or something, and insufferable at the best of times). every so often, though, that cute side pops up now and again, during small, no less significant moments…just a thought
✩ you saw him on social media, sometimes
✩ he was a bounty hunter; notorious for property damage and civilian casualties
✩ there’s a popular message board dedicated to posting stories, photos, and videos about him online. you would scroll through it, when you had nothing else better to do, usually late at night
foxtrot12: He shot a laser at the bounty, missed, and hit my car. what a dick
thebestestfriend: I think I had an encounter with Him but very briefly. Was walking down the street and got pushed over I fell to the ground and scrapped my leg. Looking up I think I saw Him running (probably after someone) It really hurt.
lightish-red: look who i found 🤗 [blurry photo of spike eating a sandwich]
reply by itsfuckingorange: You should take His wallet. And the sandwich.
69keyblade69: He has such bad hair you would rhink a cowboy couldefford a better haircut
reply by sister-kai: NOOO Hes cute ❤️
reply by god-ghost-bamf: His partner is cuter
reply by backxinxblackx2: ew no
reply by actual-number-01: at least He has hair
✩ it’s unfortunate that most damages cowboys cause are sanctioned by the issp. there are a couple posts about people getting compensation from him directly—but those are few and far between (those posts always get the most likes). tax payers usually pay the rest
✩ you read so many horror stories about him blowing up buildings, close calls, and innocent people getting caught up in his fights…you didn’t know what you’d do if you ever came across him one day
✩ so of course you came across him one day at the grocery store
✩ there was a sale on ground beef, and you didn’t know what you would make with ground beef, but you knew two things: there was a sale on ground beef and ground beef can be stored in the freezer
✩ approaching the meat section, you saw, in the distance, that there was only one package left; so you weaved in and out of customers, reaching out, racing, almost there—
✩ it was snatched right before you could grab it. you looked at the perpetrator. it was Him. you did a double take—but that hair unmistakably belonged to cowboy spike spiegel
✩ he smiled at you—kind of boyish, kind of charming, like he knew you knew—and you stared. “thank you,” he said, “for the food” and tossed the package into his hand basket
✩ “um, you’re welcome,” was all you could manage. he smiled at you again, and your knees felt a little weak. starstruck, you did nothing. you stood, mouth agape, as he flashed you a lazy goodbye and turned to walk away, one hand in his pocket and the basket on his hip, towards the checkout lane
✩ you never did any sort of engagement on the message board besides likes, but as soon you returned home, you couldn’t help yourself. “i saw Him at the store today!!!!” you typed. “He took my ground beef but honestly i dont even care. i wasnt prepared for how handsome He is tbh…” after a moment, you deleted the last sentence, heat in your cheeks
✩ you hit post and was about to do something else when you received a notification:
reply by cormorant: May I ask where this was…? I am asking for a friend.
