#I think the OST is serviceable and has real talent in it- but the direction doesn't entrance me personally.

I know this is subjective as all hell and I do genuinely feel like I'm bordering on just being rude for it being different but I really just don't vibe with payday 3's OST, especially in comparison to payday 2.

I open with my worries because stepping back and 'looking' at it, I have to agree conceptually. The new OST direction matches the implied tone shift. It's more serious, it still holds underlying segments that inspire a sort of 'memory' of payday 2, but I don't know man, just ain't my vibe.
Payday 2 hypes me the fuck up, I literally crank UP the songs in that game and will excitedly play them during other games up to and including actually modding them into other games- and that energy is PERFECT for PD2 with exciting and bombastic tones to compliment the exciting and bombastic combat- or delightfully sneaky tones for stealth missions.
Payday 3's OST just, feels eh to me. It's to the point where I just turned down the master volume so I can listen to literally anything else because it doesn't hype me up at all during the action and it's borderline forgotten during stealth.
Like, sitting down and listening to the OST on like youtube for 3, it's inoffensive. It sometimes sounds like it 'should' hype me up, but it just doesn't feel right to me at all when in game.
Like I sit down and listen to Road Rage's song and like, ehhhh, it's afraid to be loud man. It WANTS to be backing music.
It builds up a tempo with a drum bass for no payoff, it drops to what should be screeching electronica with a strangely quiet decibel shifted down electronic backing- it all wants to fade away in favor of gunfire I guess and it just doesn't make me "feel" right for payday hype.
Most of the songs do nothing for me. Some are much more positive though- I enjoy Rock the Cradle's song since it repeatedly plays with a build up to a minor payoff in a way my music-illiterate-monkey-brain goes "Ooo ooo AHAH!" but even that could be stronger in my opinion.
I don't know. What kills me is a lot of the tracks play with electronic or industrial sounds I really like, but then in terms of serving the overall medium of payday gameplay I just don't Feel it, my guy. Like why are they so subdued all the time even when they are inching towards going ham.
Whenever I think of the OST I think of Gold and Shark and how it's "Fine" which in itself is disappointing because like, why is it just Fine?
Whenever I picture Payday 2 I have so many songs hit my brain, probably in part because of the jukebox system letting you fucking listen to whatever song on whatever heist but I digress, I have stuff like Razormind just start blaring their techno beat that somehow instills a sense of a police siren into my brain

Side note, 99 boxes is kind of a fun beat, I think I actually really like that one- but I've only had reason to do it loud like 2 times so I didn't remember it until listening to the OST online.
