I'm pretty new to DM and I havent played NG or DM2 so I guess I'll answer with the current info I have from the first game + two DLCs.

The question itself is hard to answer since I guess it depends what angle I'm looking at it from?

Probably Daimon, because from a lot of the dialogue with him he is highly intelligent and analytical. Plus being a surgeon he is moreso immune to gore/body horror which seems to be a trend with the spirits. So from investigation point of view, his input is highly valuable, he also seems pretty open to ideas of non-scientific nature such as the afterlife/rituals and spiritual beings. So yes, he would be my no1 pick for an investigation. I guess the downside would be because hes so frail, any chase would probably not end too well.

I like Mashita's stark and (seemingly) indifferent attitude, but you can tell he cares but is probably broken in some way (from the DLC him smiling in the photo with his senior? everything you need to know). Hes more a silent watcher type, but his trust in Yashiki makes him a pretty good partner and a 'speaks when spoken to' kind of guy so I guess if youre going to stand around talking to yourself you might as well have Mashita listening in.

I do like Ai quite a lot and her enthusiasm when it comes to helping out and just her overall positive nature, I dont think shes all that helpful but again, her energy is what would be a boost when it comes to investigation. I can imagine Yashiki and Ai just talking about basically anything while walking through an abandoned hospital looking for clues/coming acoss dead bodies.
