I think a lot about gender performance in TLT and one thing that suddenly stood out to me on my latest reading is just how exhausting it must be to be Mercymorn. This immortal, devoted, genius in her own right even before the advent of necromancy has been performing femininity for more than 10,000 years. All for the sake of the deeply misogynistic man she literally worships. And what does she get for it? She's constantly told she isn't doing it well enough. She's belittled. She's talked down to. She is "unlovable Mercymorn, critical Mercymorn."

Does she turn around and perpetuate this cycle of abuse when poor, broken, Harrow comes along and somehow earns the Emperor's love in a way that Mercy never could? Absolutely. But you know what? I would have exploded into infinite particles of Mercy-dust long before she did.

The truth is more awful. I didn't kill him I didn't trade him for power I just used his limited time to use him as bait to kill witches and accumulate power and I told myself it was to be powerful enough to heal and protect him from death but I got so addicted to it in the end I'm not even sure if it was really for him or just for me and all that power did nothing he died in his sleep in my arms and I didn't even wake up I just found his corpse in my arms and then I kept using his memory to kill witches

I wanna say my only gripe with Agatha All Along in the fandom is the discourse on whether or not Agatha is an evil villain or a deeply misunderstood woman who feels bad.

It can be both! She's both! She has her own trauma and sorrows following her but she's also an evil bitch who will kill a dog if it's needed.

in agatha's defense these witches just heard a random song in a random tavern and collectively wrote fanfiction about how the song is about a magical road that will give them power then all decided to believe their little fanfiction and came to her asking her to take them there someone needed to teach them "stranger danger" and she volunteered
