the more I think about it, the more Laudna's ending feels to me like Woodes Roger's hallucinations of Eleanor: faceless, silent, a passive accessory in her own relationship, acting out an unobjectionable domesticity, perpetually in agreement with her partner without any needs or ambitions of her own, nothing about her and her struggles worth mention or reflection even in triumph, simply the idealized wife of someone more important
at least Eleanor was dead
