ANIME & MANGA I HAVE BINGED IN THE LAST MONTH: May 2021

I've Been Hunting Slimes for the Past 300 Years and Now Ive Maxed Out My Level: incredibly long name aside, cute af slice of life that suffers Same Face Syndrome. I'm still happy to watch it because of how feel good and fluffy it is though, Im probably gonna forget about it in two or three years tho. 8/10.

Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro: I found out this was a webcomic first and suddenly all the HORNINESS made so much more sense. A Femdom, Degradation, Humiliation, Dacryphilia Bullies to Lovers story disguised as a high school rom-com which, I'm not going to lie, misses SKEEVY CITY by mere inches on a regular basis. However, I'm a Dom/Switch and this entire relationship sets off my dom brain center like New York City just shy of midnight. So if you're into that sort of scene, this anime is for you. If not, it's still fascinating but you're probably gonna be a little put off by how mean the Girl!Bully is to the guy MC. Unless you find out something about yourself, in which case, congrats! Stay safe, sane, consensual, and learn about the traffic light system on top of safe words, I promise you'll have a better life in general after that. Still Ongoing, currently 10/10.

Fruits Basket: IM GONNA CRY I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH???? The original anime came out when I was in... I think middle school and my parents were really strict on what I watched so I never got to experience the first wave and I never bothered to watch the show ever after I moved out of the house years later. However, now that I'm much older I honestly can say this is one of my favorite anime to date, and all the characters are charming, lovable, with their own problems that I can connect to or sympathize with, and I love the MC which is always a treat tbh. Except Akito. Akito can suck a sandpaper dick. I'm only on S2 tho so no spoilers! Anime 11/10.

Monster Girl Doctor: went in thinking it was gonna be a monster girl who's a doctor with a homoerotic assistant (her name is SAPPHY okay sue me for thinking it) and ended up watching the entire dubbed harem series. Honestly, I've seen worse and this one has consistent follow-through on interesting characters and backstory enough for me to shove aside the blatant under-monstrousness of the female monsters and the harem-ness of everything else. Dubbing is honestly really good, which is a treat, and the monster designs are not the worst and the MC is tolerable. Honestly, I don't mind having watched it! The mix of cgi and the traditional animation together work pretty strangely though, and it often doesn't flow super well. 7.5/10

So I'm a Spider, So What: Dubbed version which honestly isn't that bad. Took me a bit to get into it, but after realizing that it's got a mismatched timeline a la The Witcher, it made so much more sense. Heavily done in cgi, and you can definitely tell between the 2D and 3D animations, but not the worst in the world. I went in not expecting much but it ended up being an Issekai I can stand and even enjoy. On god has a decent story... with the spider. I'd be a liar if I didnt say I skipped some of the human parts just to get back to the best part of the show. 8/10.

Somali and the Forest Spirit: I'm so fucking nostalgic for this thing it makes me want to go and hug my dad. About a human girl under threat of being eaten with a monster-dominated world. Very obvious "humans fear what they don't understand" message but instead of the humans learning tolerance it's what happens when they get annihilated first so like, kudos for the mangaka for having the guts to do that. I cried like a baby regularly. It's really good, I watched the dub and ID WATCH IT AGAIN!!! 9/10.

To Your Eternity: Oh my god. O h my g o d. Fell in love on the first episode, ngl. About if an immortal being learned how to be a person from scratch. I love it. HOWEVER. Keep a box of tissues on you at all times because you're gonna need them. I'm only on EP7 because that's all that's out right now but just know. I love it. Not for everyone but certainly for my "what do we define as human and the human condition" ass. 12/10.

Those Snow White Notes: A sports anime without any sports. About shamisen playing which is cool because I never realized how cool this instrument was??? Its neat af. OP1&2 are by Burnout Syndrom so know theyre fire. Gonna be real, its pretty alright, but not extraordinary. You can tell they were using the characters as archetypes rather than actually characters which kinda kills a lot of the emotional value you could've had, but I'm still gonna watch it. It doesn't make me cringe as hard as other sports anime tho so I consider it toptier in that regards but if you're a big sports anime fan you might be bummed out by it. Every single musical performance is INCREDIBLE tho. A solid 8/10.

Toilet Bound Hanako-kun: THE ART OMFG IT'S SO GORGEOUS. Listen, if you took coptic markers and gave them an animation budget with some manga panel direction thrown in there, that's this anime. It's beautiful. Gorgeous. I'm in love with the aesthetic every second. Story? Really good. Characters? I love the MC and his evil little twin brother asshat. Demons? Not super imaginative but I'm carrying on happy as can be anyways. Dubbing? A bit shaky at times but I found the voices charming if a little off for some of them. I'm already waiting for the second season with popcorn at the ready. 10/10.

Prison School: I watched this directly after Hanako-kun and it was like I got slapped in the face by sweaty unwashed titties and some fedora wearing schmuck's piss kink. No character is likable or redeemable. I finished it, but at what cost? 2/10 and only because a character shit his pants and I laughed.

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle: watched this right after Prison School and it was NECESSARY tbh. Its so CUTE and honestly, im not even kidding you, the fucking funniest anime I've seen in months. I watched the dub and the VAs are having the time of their lives working on this anime not just giving it their all but literally just going ham. Its great. If I read this im sure id be bored outta my mind but the VAs giving it a joyous performance make it an insta fave for me tbh. 9/10.

Sk8 the Infinity: i watched the dub with my bro and I can confirm that its a spectacular show because we both loved it and we have vastly different tastes. Incredibly SUSPENSFUL AND STRESSFUL for an anime about skateboarding but we finished it in a single sitting tbh. The last episode is not dubbed for some reason but we still loved it. Like if Free! was less obnoxious but the only fan-service here is Joe ♡ a beefcake who owns my lesbian heart. I think there's exactly one named female character tho and I legit couldn't tell you what it was if there was a gun to my head. So, over all, 9.5/10.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: I'm going to be entirely honest, I went in thinking it was going to be a boring isekai of no value. I was right about the Isekai part. It was honestly pretty interesting and focused on nation building like you're playing civilization rather than the usual "Get Stronger" narrative or "Get Some Pussy" narrative most isekais take which is delightfully refreshing. Granted there are flavors of that in this which means it doesn't alienate the big isekai watchers out there, but it's not the whole dish and it doesn't make me want to cringe the same way others do. You've got a slime MC just vibing and building a nation of monsters nbd. Does lose points for making the female monsters more humanoid than their male counterparts but makes them back by only doing perfunctory fan-service and nothing that makes me want to cry... except the butt sumo episode but in fairness it was all a terrible dream. Literally, the MC refuses to dream anymore after that. solid animation, decent voice acting, decent story, made me realize how HUGE this is in the Light Novel community???? There's like 18 fucking novels and that's WILD. 8.5/10.

MANGA:

Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono: a one shot special by the mangaka of The Promised Neverland! Honestly a really delicate touch of both super creepy and really touching, and I'm not gonna lie I'm bummed that this isn't a bigger project but the single chapter makes it a good taste for their style. I've been wondering if I wanna read/watch The Promised Neverland and now I think I will. 10/10

Deranged Detective Ron Kamonohashi: from the mangaka of Hitman Reborn comes this Sherlock and Watson derivative! Not even 20 chapters out yet with a sort of spotty schedule, I honestly love it even thought it's exactly as you expect. HOWEVER. Kamonohashi the "Sherlock" character uses mental pressure to kill all confirmed murderers and it's up to Toto the "Watson" character to save all those people before Kamonohashi kills them! It's just recently introduced a "Moriarty" family of crime lords (not a big spoiler don't worry it was obvious) so the tension surrounding Ron's past is amping up rn. Personally, I think the art is GORGEOUS, the characters engaging, and the story quick enough to keep my interest. Most mysteries are solved within a chapter or two so you're not stuck 20 chapters into one locked room mystery which is just peachy tbh. RN, 10/10. If this gets an anime, I anticipate a legion of fangirls who ship the two main characters along with their many friends. I've been alive too long to believe otherwise.

Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro: Yeah I read the manga after I watched the show. A slower build than the anime, but it works for the format, if theyd done the same with the show then I don't think it wouldve done as well. Honestly? Cuter tbh but just as horny. You dont start really LEARNING about your character until like, chap 65 tho and no real "drama" happens until like 75. A good chunk of the chapters are like 8pgs so its a breeze to get through. I love these slow burn idiots of the century. 9.5/10 because you can DEFINITELY tell the mangaka does hentai too.

Yugen's All-Ghouls Homeroom: one-shot by the mangaka for Food Wars, it's no wonder there's this constant perviness from the MC, a guy who can see and exorcise spirits. Takes place at an all girl's finishing school with KICK ASS monsters tbh, kinda bummed its not longer. The MC? Blatant monsterfucker who is also a CONFRIMED monsterfucker???? Idk i vibe with that single emotion. Everything else is hit or miss. 7/10 for monsters and cool concept, lost points for the MC very pointedly being okay with admitting he'd wait for the teenagers to be adults tho. Creepy af. Could live without that.

Hell's Paradise: I finished the entire 127chps in 3 days and I was really enthusiastic about it 90% of the time thinking about how deep it was and then I actually thought about it and I ended up being very neutral about the whole thing tbh. The art is fantastic tho, but DEFINITELY deserving of the M rating. Tits. Tits everywhere. But not tits to be ecchi over, no, monster hermit tits on beautiful women-ish figures. Now generally I give that a pass but a huge theme in the story is that men and women are "no better than one or the other" but like, lady tits are what you see 99% of the time. Men tits are few and far between. I call bullshit on most of the "deep" themes is what I'm saying, so it's like the mangaka was trying for those deep thoughts but missed the margin a little too far for my preference. That being said, the MC is a married man who loves his wife which automatically makes him my favorite character so like... idk so many good things, so many misses, but overall really spectacular themes and imagery. Unique but classic all at once. It's getting an anime and I have NO IDEA how much censorship they're gonna be doing but they're going to be doing SO MUCH. Oh yeah, and one guy is a plant/human hybrid who fucks a 1000 year old plant-hermit which makes him a canon monster fucker. And one canon non-binary character who I, a nonbinary, actually like. So like... gosh I've got mixed feelings. 8.5/10.

Choujin X: From Sui Ishida, mangaka to the mega hit Tokyo Ghoul comes this brand new manga!... Of one chapter, lol. Not really binge-y because it's just the one chapter out right now but I'm already keeping my eye on it. The grasp on anatomy in the art is PHENOMENAL and you can see Ishida flexing his art skill which is great. Can't give a true rating but I'm giving it a tentative 9/10 because I'm excited to see more.

Shag&Scoob: technically not a manga, its an ongoing webcomic I binged an subscribed to in one day and I just think it deserves more attention. Starts off funny with "what if Scooby Doo had a gun" and has been led to "what if all cartoons are aliens that survive and receive their powers by the humans that love them in an epic war with Martians." On god, its good. I finished the current series in a couple hours so it's a breezy read, highly recommend it. 9/10.

To Your Eternity: Yeah I watched the anime and then finished all current 143 chapters in like 3 days. GOD IM WEAK. I don't buy physical manga unless I know I want to remember the story forever and I'm already budgeting for the current books out. Yeah, this is a good series. That being said, definitely not for the faint of heart or those who suffer under common triggers like suicide, molestation, death, etc. It's all framed as bad and necessary to the story don't get me wrong, but it's there and has lasting affects on the characters. Incredible story telling by the creator of A Silent Voice. Keep tissues nearby at all times. 12/10.

@keysstylus alright, sorry in advance that this isn’t that much, it’s what I found in an hour. I could find more but I’d have to go through a lot of posts, since some were instagram stories that I cant search for anymore. And keep in mind this is only recent stuff and stuff you can find easily, there’s lots of things like this. Maybe I’ll search more today, but you can also ask around, there’s lots of instances where they post a bee emoji or tease the bees before a volume/episode.

But aight. You see this? It was a popular post, do you know why it happens? It’s not just crazy fans taking things out of context. Surely some of those are a reach but people in this fandom reach for a reason. I’m pretty sure the heart is from one of Arryn’s insta story. One reply or tweet on its own doesn’t hurt. But when they keep adding bees into it you just can’t help but ‘piece things together’.

Gonna put this one under a read more cause it’s lengthy.

This is to show that they know what the bee means and use it when they refer to the ship. I think this was for chapter 12 when they reunited. When she does this or she retweets fanart that’s alright. And imo sometimes Arryn can do it unintentionally, but not all the time.

And here’s an example of how people will predict and theorize just off a tweet of theirs. Sometimes they do things like this where they accidentaly reveal that something will happen during the volume. But you never know when, what and if it will happen. Just like the picture I’m gonna discuss next. But now it happened, our theories came true, Blake did scream after Yang. And this gives you hope that next time they tweet about the bees it must be true and the bees will become canon, but they dont.

Here’s another example on how big of an influence they have on the rwby fandom, and why this harms the fandom. Before v7 aired Arryn tweeted this, fans had theories about all kinds of crazy stuff including an Atlas Ball. We all knew it was just that: a theory, but when Arryn posted this we all thought there would be some dancing this volume, and everyone was crazy about the Atlas Ball, and then disappointed it didn’t happen. But that’s the thing, we got NO hints whatsoever in show that it would happen, it was a theory and ALL fandoms have those, but when someone directly working for the show fuels into it it becomes a bit more than a theory. And once it doesn’t happen it disappoints you. Not only did we not get an Atlas Ball, but also the Yang and Blake party scene with FNKI.

Teasing the ship. It’s clear that Arryn insinuates she would cosplay Blake so they both could do a couple cosplay, except that in show they’re not a couple. Intentional or not this teases the ship and brings in more views. Fans trust those 2 so much, if they tease it like that then ofc it’s happening. Except it doesn’t, it just stagnates.

Stuff like this is honestly what makes me think they’re onti it too. It’s CLEAR that they’re using bumbleby here for views, it’s clear that they’re teasing it. They’re talking about bumbleby but nothing gets confirmed, not in show or outside. What’s the point? Do they talk about renora? Or any straight ship for the matter? They know how big bumbleby is and how many bumbleby fans are in the fandom, I don’t think this is a coincidence. Renora is a popular ship as well, why aren’t they doing this with it? Why isn’t Neath teasing it the same way those 2 do?

Here’s the v4 example I’m talking about. She knows that being a fan will only burn her. She did it before, she knows how important her words are to the fandom and how people will reach for anything. As I said, she’s been here before and she knwos what she’s doing

I hope I can find some other stuff and show you. There’s lots of tweets of just a bee emoji, or them hyping up the next episode and dropping a hint about the bees (like again a bee emoji, once she posted a gif with a canon firing, a yellow heart etc.) and I don’t think that’s unintentional. I’m not saying they’re crueless monsters, but they’re not exactly your best friends either. After all some things they do harm (and did harm in the past as well) the bumbleby fandom, they set up exceptations and hype up things that never happen. And it’s not just them. Remember VRV? The valentine’s cards? Remember the merch, the tshirts with blake and yang? Why so much hype, why doesn’t renora (who even kissed and confessed!) get as much hype?

Sorry but I refuse to believe they, and all those people from RT, VRV and everything else, just love it so much and are excited about it. I refuse to believe that the ship that gets the most hype, tease and hints with little to no development/no confession/no kiss/no nothing is the LGBT ship while the straight canon ship that lots of people love doesn’t get shit. Is it simply just a coincidence? Again, they know that they can’t interact like they’re normal fans. Why do they do it. They’re the only ones who do it. Neath doesn’t do it, or Lindsay, or anyone else.

But they do it, and considering how much RT and VRV teased the ship I don’t think it’s entirely just them being excited about the ship. Sure a part is like that, Arryn at least loves the ship and it’s clear, but what a coincidence that only the wlw ship gets teased and only the voice actresses of the wlw ship that’s not canon yet hint it so much while the other voice actors of already canon ships didn’t ever say shit about their ship, RT didn’t ever say or hint or tease it either.

Is it really just a coincidence? Can’t they simply just retweet fanart and stop teasing the ship with tweets and instagram posts and all kinds of hints? I never said they’re monsters or evil, I just said they don’t give any fucks about us. And considering all this shit and how it happened in the past it wouldn’t be impossible to believe. The bumbleby fandom is like this because of them solely. Their disappointment? It’s because the voice actresses teased the ship too much and set up some standards/ideas that never happened. The crazy theories? Every fandom has them, but not to the level of the bee fandom, because the VAs feed into them. I’ve literally watched She-Ra, LoK, Owl House and many more and I never met a fandom that kept posting and begging before every single episode “bees will kiss this ep” but then when it clearly doesn’t happen say “it’s alright them sharing a glance was much more intimate I’m glad they didn’t kiss it would’ve been rushed”

And this happens for a reason. Just think about it, think about how much the VAs of the only relevant LGBT ship interact with us (and only they, no any other VAs), how much RT teases it, alongside other companies, how much merch they have in comparasion to other ships/characters, and how much hype it has for something that stagnated for 2 volumes now. It’s hard to believe it’s just a coincidence and that they’re not, at least sometimes, doing it intentionally.

Goodbye Kiss

This continues my series of missed moments from the Star Wars comics that you can find here for this story I recommend reading the others first because now I’m starting to get into a bit of a running storyline.

After Vader Down which is Darth Vader (2015) #13-15 and Star Wars (2015) #13-14. The gist of the story is that Vader crash lands near a rebel base. Luke is lost in the area. Han is going after Luke and is frustrated that Leia cares so much more about killing Vader than she does about saving Luke. They apprehend Dr. Aphra (a dangerous associate of Vaders) and take her prisoner.

“Are you gonna tell us where these coordinates lead or is this another fun surprise?” Han asked Leia as they entered hyperspace.

“Just going to meet up with the fleet, Han. I need to talk to Sana about another mission, she should be cleared or nearly cleared by the time we get back.”

“Sana?!” Han swiveled to look at her but she wouldn’t meet his eyes. It had been like that for a couple weeks, ever since their short but very passionate kiss aboard the Falcon. At first Leia had avoided him like the plague and he’d let her get away with it for the first few days, but it had become tiring. He wanted to see her, even if it meant fighting.

And they did fight then, a lot. In just a couple weeks, people knew enough to turn tail if the two of them were seen in deep conversation because they knew an explosion was coming.

“I’m going to have her help me transport Aphra to prison.”

Luke got up from his seat slowly, not wanting to become a target in the coming argument, and took the armless Threepio with him.

“Why would you want Sana for that? Or even trust her for that? I’ll take you.” Han pronounced the last part as if he was giving an order and Leia’s head snapped up.

“I am giving Sana this job for your sake, Han. To pay off your debt. If I didn’t hire her for—”

“My debt?! Are you kidding me! Sana has stolen from me plenty of times, over the years it’s evened out. She’ll get over it.”

“I also think she could be useful to the cause.”

Han snorted and gently hit a silent Chewie on the shoulder as if to say, Isn’t she crazy?, Chewie, refusing to be dragged in, remained silent in his work.

“Listen, sweetheart, Sana is not going to be helpful to the cause. She doesn’t believe in anything or care for anyone.”

“Just like you, right? These are the kind of speeches I’m used to hearing you spout off about yourself, but now it sounds like you're worried.”

Han stood up sharply to refute her but she spoke first. “It’s nice to know you care, Han, but I think I can handle myself.”

“I never said I cared, just don’t come cryin’ to me when she stabs you in the back!”

“Fine, I won’t.”

“Good.”

“Yes.” Leia stomped out of the cabin before Han could think of another last word.

He slumped down in the pilots’ seat and shook his head.

”The two of you should talk about what’s really going on.”

“Oh well, if it’s that easy…” Han didn’t have enough energy to throw the sarcasm behind that comment like he wanted to and instead, he sighed.

“She’s right, kissing her was a mistake.”

Chewbacca shrugged. “Do you really believe that, Cub?”

Han just covered his eyes and slumped into his seat. She’d be the death of him.

Han and Luke, both in a mood, sat in the mess hall next to the other Rogues who chatted on, despite their companions' dour demeanor. Luke was still struggling with leaving Vrogas Vas, and any potential info about the old Jedi Order, behind. Meanwhile Han was still irritated at Leia for her perceived apathy toward Luke and the rest of the troops in favor of catching Vader, as well as her insistence on having Sana escort her to the Sunspot prison.

“Why are you so mad at Leia today?” Luke asked and all the pilots turned to hear the answer.

Han, startled out of his thoughts, glowered at them, “Who says I’m mad at Her Adoredness? In fact, she’s the one who seems mad at me!”

Luke rolled his eyes. “Whatever Han.”

“No! You know what? She left us all alone out there on Vrogas Vas so she could go all commando on her own little private mission to kill Vader. She cared more about trying to take him out than saving your ass and didn’t give a kriff how many soldiers died along the way!”

Luke’s expression turned sour in a way no one was used to seeing on him.

“Don’t talk about Leia that way! You think she doesn’t know the name and rank of every person who died trying to get Vader? I made it out fine, and in the end she did save our asses! I don’t know what the hell has gotten into the two of you lately but stop trying to drag everyone else into it!”

With that, Luke stood up and stalked away, presumably toward his bunk.

Wedge looked after him, concerned, and Han waved his hand as if it was no big deal.

“He had to leave a bunch of Jedi stuff on Vrogas Vas.”

Dubious, Wedge looked at Han and shook his head. “Maybe, but he’s got a point. You and Princess Leia are difficult to be around these days, it’s unpleasant for everyone. Some time apart will be good for you guys.”

He looked back at the exit to the mess hall and got up. “I’m gonna check on him.”

Wedge took a few steps before turning around.

“And Han, take it easy on Leia. She has enough guilt without you adding this on top of it.”

Han just waved the pilot away and grumbled into his drink. She’d be leaving in a couple hours and the thought of it caused a strange squeeze in his chest. Maybe he could try to make it right before she left.

“I hear you two are shipping off.” Leia nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of Han’s voice. He leaned against the door to the Volt Cobra’s secondary hold, looking at her like she was the entire galaxy. His posture was casually practiced, and even though she wanted to be mad at him for startling her and for the way he was looking at her, he looked good enough to make her heart—and other places—flutter.

When her gaze reached his grinning lips, she felt her face go warm. Damn Han Solo and his gorgeous lips.

“What can I do for you, Han?” Leia asked, trying to sound cold.

“Nothing, Your Highness, I just wanted to see you before you left.”

The way he said ‘I just wanted to see you’ sent a shiver up her spine but she kept on a mask of indifference.

“Well, now you’ve seen me. You can either help us load up supplies or you can leave,” Leia said as she pretended to remember what she’d been doing before he arrived.

“I wanted to talk to you, Leia.”

She turned around to look at him to find he’d moved closer, looking sincere.

“About what?” Leia felt proud of herself for keeping the tremor from her voice. He was close enough that she could smell the engine grease on him and feel the heat from his body.

“You know exactly what about.” He moved in closer but she refused to back away, maybe didn’t want to, “That kiss.”

“I’d rather forget about that.”

“Really? You scared?” His grin mocked her and she scowled at him.

“Of course not.”

“Then kiss me again—kiss goodbye, considering you’re going away with a treacherous smuggler to drop off a deranged prisoner at a secret prison filled with the most dangerous criminals the Alliance has to offer.”

“In your dreams.”

“Yeah, every night for two weeks.” He said it so fast and with so much sincerity, it caught Leia off guard.

Slowly, he moved his hand up to stroke her cheek. “Just be careful Princess.”

Leia nodded and neither of them moved.

Finally, after an eternity Leia—against her better judgement—leaned forward and kissed him gently. It set her insides on fire and she grabbed hold of his vest just to stay up. His hands held her elbows, supporting her, but she could feel the same tremble running through him.

She’d lied to Han; she was scared—terrified.

The kiss was shorter than the last and much more tame, yet somehow it touched Leia just as much.

“See, nothing to be afraid of,” Han whispered, sounding frightened himself.

RWBY LVL Up 2019 Expo Panel Summaries

So, first one of these for the 6-7 hiatus. This took place on the weekend of April 27th-28th, and saw two panels with the four RWBY girls. Most notably, the panel actually fielded questions from the r/RWBY subreddit prior to the Q&A.

Saturday

Twitch VOD here. Keep in mind Twitch auto-deletes VODs so this link may be dead if you’re coming back to this in a few weeks The Twitch channel mentions a user called SoraKasaiSkyFire is going to upload them on Youtube. It’s a short little interview session done on the show floor.

This was Kara’s first time in Vegas.

The host is actually an long-time fan of RWBY and opens by talking about how Monty’s legacy has carried on. He highlights Grimm Eclipse and asks if we’ll see RWBY go into other games. Lindsay hopes for an MMO and mentions Amity Arena and Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. Barbara also mentions the Combat Ready board game and Vicious Circle, an unrelated RT project.

What jobs besides being a Huntress do you think your character would have? Barbara thinks Yang would be a personal trainer. Arryn thinks Blake would be a civil lawyer. Kara thinks Weiss would become a Broadway star, and Lindsay goes for Ruby going into a bakery.

If you could bring back any dead character at the cost of a living one, who? Lindsay immediately offers Pyrrha in exchange for Salem (Kara gets ticked off because she was going to say that). Arryn jokingly says “Kill Zwei,” while Barbara mulls over Torchwick. Kara says kill Jacques and bring back Pyrrha.

What advice do you have for people who want to get into the entertainment industry? Lindsay talks about how it’s overwhelming that RWBY took off when they envisioned it as a small passion project and says to keep an eye out for more side-projects.

Host Guy’s shirt offends me on a spiritual level. The whole “Stars of such anime like RWBY, Red Vs Blue and Camp Camp” line makes me snicker. That’s my token anime elitism moment out of the way.

Apparently it’s a semi-infrequent thing for the VAs where they’ll meet people cosplaying as RWBY characters and the cosplayers won’t recognize them.

What is the current biggest flaw your character has going into Volume 7? Kara thinks Weiss needs to learn how to get along with her family. Barb thinks Yang is a bit too caring for her friends and talks about how Yang is particularly going through some self-discovery and her abandonment issues in relation to Raven.

What advice would you give aspiring voice actors? Barbara talks about how hard it is to get into VA work, but there’s always something out there, even if it’s just a car commercial or a friend doing some small animation project. It mostly comes down to being in the right place at the right time. Arryn quips that she could use some advice herself.

They get interrupted a lot by the Smash play.

What was your favorite volume to record for and why? Barb- Volume 5 because of Yang’s arc with Raven. Arryn- Volume 5 as well, since that’s when Blake heads home and has to work through the eternal problem of Daddy Issues, (”Since that’s what everyone has.”) and that Blake got to rally the troops.

How do you deal with emotion in the studio? Barbara explains how challenging it is. Camera acting lets you act through your body language and face, but with VA work you have to carry everything through your voice. Arryn mentions how Blake is very monotonous in the early volumes and how she had to take a few tries to get that level without it falling into sounding asleep.

If RWBY’s Aura had a scent what would it smell like? Barbara thinks Yang’s would smell like citrus. Arryn goes for a newly opened book. Lindsay and Kara were too distracted by Smash to answer so Barb and Arryn opine that Ruby’s would smell like cookies and Weiss’s Aura would smell like a waterfall or hot linen.

What are the best and worst qualities of your characters in your eyes? Barbara thinks Yang’s best quality is how much she cares for the people in her life, but that’s also her weakness since she needs to learn when to draw the line and work on her temper. Arryn thinks Blake doesn’t talk about her feelings a lot and had a bad problem to run from her problems, but she’s unfailingly honest when she does stick around.

Which outfits of Team RWBY do you like the most? Barbara holds a soft spot for her OG outfit but bluntly says that she’s looking forward to the new Atlas outfits (they’ve really not been trying to hide that Atlas will mark new outfits for RWBY at least). Arryn has apparently seen Blake’s new gear but thinks her favorite Blake outfit was her PJs.

What jobs besides being Huntress would your character have chosen? This got asked the day prior. The only new addition is Barbara and Arryn joking a mechanic Yang would be sexy.

I think this was actually my question- I asked Arryn if she thought Adam was ever a good person or if he was always a psycho. Arryn firmly believes he was always a monster who “dissected animals as a kid,” like Sid from Toy Story. Arryn also mentions the people who were bitter at Adam not getting a redemption arc, while Barbara talks about how people try and find the good in villains.

They go off topic and talk about games for a long bit. Barbara used to love Smite and played in a few tournaments in-house in RT, while Arryn loves Animal Crossing and Borderlands. Lindsay has been undefeated for the entire Q&A to this point.

What’s the hardest challenge your character’s faced. Kara thinks just going to Beacon was a big challenge for Weiss, and also her confrontation with Jacques at the fundraiser. Barbara mentions confronting Adam at the end of Volume 6. Arryn talks briefly about going home to her family in Volume 4 before getting interrupted by Lindsay’s winning streak being broken.

The guy host decides to ask a few questions exclusively to Ruby- she agrees with how Ruby’s Aura would smell. Ruby’s greatest challenge has been trying to find herself and move out of her socially awkward/lone wolf shell through becoming a leader and finding that inner strength, which manifested in Volume 6 with her arguing with Qrow.

Final question- any common fan opinions about your characters you don’t like? Kara refuses to let White Knight die and is sure that Weiss has a small crush on Jaune. Barbara isn’t very fond of when people’s headcanons or theories are proven wrong and they criticize the show because of it. “Difference between criticism and hate.” Arryn hates that some people still ship Blake and Adam. Lindsay doesn’t enjoy some people’s takes of characters being bad and that they shouldn’t be in the show, it’s more than just black and white for some characters (someone tell whoever’s writing Cinder that -_-).

“A mistake? That’s what you’re gonna call it? Are you kidding me?!” Nick growled. “You know, I’ve tried making excuses for everything. I told myself you were tired, or going through something, or just being an idiot. But this? This is way too much. I never should’ve even introduced you to her.”

Marty said nothing, as he looked at the ground.

“Say something. Don’t just stand there.” Nick said before pushing him back.

Matt put his hand on his brother’s chest, to calm him before they walked in to Marty’s room and shut the door behind him.

Marty sighed. “‘Wha do you want me ‘ta say?” He asked, in a hushed tone, still refusing to look them in the eyes.

Nick scoffed. “I want you to admit you’re wrong, I want you say how stupid you are, I want you to show some sign of guilt. What I really want is for this to be a joke, because I can’t comprehend how someone could be as selfish as you are.”

Marty didn’t respond, making Nick even more annoyed with him, but before he could say anything else, Brandi and Cody walked in without knocking.

“Are you yelling at him for being an idiot too?” She asked, being able to overhear the noise from the hall.

“Wait, how do you know what he did?” Matt asked, a bit confused.

“Well, unlike him I actually called Y/N to see how she was, and congratulate her.” She said, before turning her attention to Marty. “How much of a jerk do you have to be to not call her?” She asked.

Nick’s face hardened. “Oh, you have no idea how much of a jerk he really is.” He hissed.

Brandi’s expression only grew more irritated. “What did you do now?” She growled, crossing her arms.

Marty rolled his eyes. “You know ‘wha? No! You guys don’t get ‘ta come in ‘ere and gang up on ‘meh. It’s none ‘ov ‘yer business!”

Matt shook his head, and cleared his throat before looking to Cody and Brandi “He um..he slept with another girl last night.” He explained, his tone hushed, still unable to believe that Marty did this.

Cody furrowed his brows and his mouth fell open, unsure he heard Matt correctly. Even Brandi was taken back a little. Her nose began to flare, and she pursed her lips together as she started to shake her head. She said nothing before she stormed out, Cody looked at Marty and scoffed before following his wife out.

Matt cleared his throat. “We uh..need to get going you know, we have a show to get to.” He mumbled.

Nick rolled his eyes. “Fine. Let’s go. Marty can drive himself.” He demanded, as he resisted the urge to kill him.

“Wait ‘wha? No. I can’t drive myself ‘vat far..’wha if I get tired and fall asleep?” He whined.

Nick shrugged as he turned to walk out. “Maybe that’s what I’m hoping for.” He smirked, before leaving.

Matt just shrugged before following him out. There wasn’t much more for him to say.

Given my luck, I was of course sitting next to Will. He smirked and cocked his brow when he took his seat next to me, I was too lost in thought to really notice him at first, as my eyes focused out the plane’s window.

“Ah, hello Darling.” He said, causing me to turn my attention to him.

“Oh..hey. So, I guess we’re sitting together then?” I sighed. He nodded, looking a bit proud of himself.

“As fate would ‘ave it, yes.” He flirted. I blushed, and instantly felt horrible for the slight attraction I had towards him. I knew how much Marty would hate every bit of this. “So..you like ‘va window seat?” He asked, as an attempt to make small talk.

I shrugged in response. Truth be told, I never really got to sit in the window seat, anytime I was on a plane with Marty, he insisted. “Marty does.” I sighed. “I usually just let him have it.”

He looked like he wanted to say something, but decided against it, and shook his head.

“Something wrong?” I asked.

He cleared his throat. “I..don’t wanna say. It’s none ‘ov my business..but, ‘ta me Marty seems a bit selfish. I don’t know..” He said awkwardly.

I scoffed, and furrowed my brows. “You’re right. It’s not any of your business.” I snapped.

He frowned.

“Look, ‘m sorry. I know I shouldn’t ‘ave said ‘vat. I didn’t mean to offend you. I just..’fink you deserve better..” He said softly.

“Oh really? Lemme guess, I should be with someone more like you. Is that it?” I said sarcastically.

He shook his head. “I wasn’t saying ‘vat. I don’t deserve you ‘eiva.” He smiled, before turning to look in the other direction, towards the plane aisle. “No one does..” He added.

I blushed a bit, and a slight smile grew on my face. I wasn’t used to that type of kindness. Not that Marty was mean or anything. He just didn’t really talk to me like he used to. Lately he just seemed, different. I can’t say it doesn’t hurt me a little bit. It was nice for someone to flirt with me again.

I couldn’t help but feel guilty for enjoying it though.

“Um..hey. I’m sorry I snapped at you. It’s just been a rough couple of days I guess.” I apologized.

He smiled at me. “It’s fine.” He assured me, before putting his hand on my knee. “And just so ‘ya know..I’d always call you.” He flirted, before removing his hand. I cleared my throat, and looked out the window.

Part of me wished I had that.

Marty, was supposed to pick me up when I landed, and then we’d both head to the next show together. He was already running late, but I understood, he’d just had a show. Will was waiting with me in the airport, to help me pass the time though, so it wasn’t so bad.

“You know, you don’t have to wait with me.” I smiled.

“Maybe I want to..” He flirted.

I breathed a laugh and shook my head. “Don’t you have somewhere to be?” I asked, referring to his next show. He sighed, and checked his watch.

“Don’t you?” He teased, knowing Marty was late.

“Ha..very funny.” I mocked.

He breathed a laugh, and bit his lip. “You know, I could take you ‘ta ‘yer show. Instead of waiting on him..’ven, you could break up ‘wif him, and date me instead, and everyone wins!” He smiled. “Well, except Marty but, in a way he does, because he stops standing in ‘va way ‘ov ‘wha’s meant ‘ta be.” He continued.

I pursed my lips together, as I tried to hide my smile. “You’re cute Will, but..I’m perfectly happy with Marty.” I assured him.

“Oh..you ‘fink I’m cute? Interesting..” He replied.

I exhaled sharply, trying to be annoyed with him, but failing miserably. I giggled, and covered my face as it started to turn as red as a tomato.

Finally Marty got there, looking furious when he saw who I was with. I instantly stopped laughing.

“Oh, I see you don’t really need ‘meh here.” Marty said through gritted teeth. “Good ‘ta know if I don’t show up on time, you’ll find someone else ‘ta entertain you.” He rolled his eyes.

Will furrowed his brows, confused and irritated by Marty’s behavior. “Good ‘ta see you too.” He mumbled.

Marty exhaled sharply, not even looking to Will. “Ready ‘ta go?” He asked me, seeming almost annoyed he had to pick me up in the first place.

I nodded, and followed him out, I went to wave to Will, but Marty grabbed my hand, and pulled me out behind him. Things were pretty silent in the car.

“A-Are you okay?” I asked.

“Do you even care Love?” He said, rolling his eyes. “How’s Will?” He mocked.

“We were just talking Marty..it wasn’t a big deal.” I explained, worried I’d done something wrong.

“It’sa big deal ‘ta me!” He shrugged, his tone condescending and hurtful.

“Marty, I’m sorry okay. It won’t happen again.” I assured him, as I put my hand on his thigh.

“Good.” He scoffed. “Because if it happens again, we’re done.”

I nodded in understanding, as I began to pull my hand away. He let out a sigh, and laced his fingers with mine. “I’m sorry..’vat may ‘ave been out ‘ov line.” He said, his tone softer. “I’m just..not in a great mood, I guess..” He explained, before letting go of my hand so he could focus on driving.

“Is everything okay?” I asked, concerned.

“I um-” He started, but cut himself off when he looked at me. “I’m just tired.” He said, as he looked back at the road.

“Oh..okay, if you say so.” I frowned.

The rest of the car ride was silent, and just a bit uncomfortable. But, we finally made it to the arena with the rest of our friends.

Brandi ran to me and hugged me before shooting Marty a dirty look. And she wasn’t the only one being weird with him. All of our friends were giving him the cold shoulder. I thought it was odd, but didn’t say anything.

Brandi and Nick pulled me aside, and she cleared her throat.

“Um..is everything alright?” She asked awkwardly. Making me even more confused, and even a little worried. I cocked my brow, and looked from her to Nick hoping their expressions might give something away, but they were pretty blank at the moment.

“I think so..” I said, continuing to watch their faces. “I mean, me and Marty got into a small fight before we got here.” I added. They exchanged glances before looking back at me.

“So..he told you?” Nick said, his tone apologetic.

“It’s not like it’s a secret. Stuff like this happens all the time.” I replied, cocking my brow. It’s not like this was the first time Marty had been jealous, I don’t know why they’re acting so intense about it.

“All the time?! Are you-” Nick started, but Brandi held up her hand to cut him off.

“What exactly did you two fight about?” She asked.

“I was talking to Will..at the airport. What’s wrong with you guys?” I asked.

They shared livid glances and Nick exhaled sharply looking too furious to spit any actual words out. Then, he took a deep breath, and his face softened. “Y/N..I think we should ta-” He started, but was cut off when Marty joined the situation.

“Hey Love! We should um..get to ‘va hotel, you’re probably tired, I know I am!” He chuckled nervously, as he put his arm around me, and tried to ignore all the judging eyes from his friends who wanted nothing more than kick his a*s.

I nodded, and smiled softly, before waving to my friends, and beginning to walk away. Marty was about to follow, before Nick grabbed his arm, and jerked him back as hard as he could, causing him to stumble a bit.

“You better f*cking tell her.” Nick hissed. “You do it, or I will. And if I have to, I’m gonna kill you.”

Marty jerked his arm away, he was about to reply, but just shook his head, and continued to follow me.

--- “Is everything..okay? I asked, once we made it to the hotel room. “Our friends are being really weird.”

He sat at the foot of the bed, and sighed. His face was filled with guilt. His eyes were heavy and starting to water.

“Th-There’s somefing I need to..” He started to cry, and his voice began shaking, but he cleared his throat and tried to work through it. “There’s somefing I need ‘ta tell you.” He choked out.

I instantly felt worry in the pit of my stomach, my face dropped, and I leaned against the wall trying to keep calm, but freaking out on the inside when I realized it had to be something awful, based on his mood, and how our friends treated him.

I think, on some levels, I already knew what he’d did before he said it. I kept arguing with the little voice in the back of my head screaming that he’d betrayed me. I kept arguing with myself and saying it had to be something else.

But, then he said it.

“I made..ah mistake..and there was ‘vis girl..I um..I slept ‘wif her.” He admitted, not caring enough to look at me when he did.

My heart shattered. I felt broken, tears started to fall like rushing waves down my face. I wanted to scream, and fall to the ground. I wanted to curl up in a ball and pretend this wasn’t happening. But, instead I just looked at him, with the most puzzled expression. I wanted to speak, my mouth fell open, but no words escaped through my lips. I didn’t even know what to say. How do you express a feeling like this?

“Please..say somefing Love. Please.” He sighed.

I closed my eyes, and crossed my arms, using one hand to rub my forehead. “W-who..was she?” I choked out, my voice shaking, and barely loud enough to be considered a whisper. “What..?”

He asked, seeming confused.

I huffed, annoyed he was gonna make me say it again. “The girl Marty, the one worth breaking my heart over, who the f*ck was she?!” I yelled back through tears that never seemed to stop.

“She...she was no one Y/N. I don’t even know ‘er name..” He shrugged, his tears had already dried, which was something I was growing envious of now.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, every word he said seemed to cut deeper and deeper, and it didn’t even seem like he realized it.

“A stranger, was worth ruining our relationship..?” I choked out, he sighed about to answer, but I cut him off. “Why her? Of all people? Why someone you don’t even remember the name of?”

“I-I don’t know what ‘ta say Love. ‘M sorry.” He frowned.

I shook my head, and wiped my eyes. “Don’t say anything then..” I said, before grabbing some of my stuff. “We’re done.” I said before storming out.

*Present time*

“And that was it.” I shrugged. “Well, kinda anyway. There were some backslides I guess. But, I pretty much pretended it never happened. It was easier to pretend things just didn’t work out. It was less drama..” I sighed.

Will took a deep breath. “I’m sorry about..all ‘ov ‘vat.” He frowned, as he put his hand on my knee.

I smiled softly, and shrugged. “It’s okay. It’s not like any of it was your fault.”

He nodded. “Hey, at least we’ve always been cute. Right?” He teased, at an attempt to make me laugh. I smiled shyly.

“That’s true.” I flirted back.

He chuckled, before his face fell more serious. “Just so you know, he’s an idiot. You’ve always deserved absolute perfection,” He said, before kissing my cheek, and stopping next to my ear to finish his thought. “Thank you for settling for me..” He whispered, causing me to chuckle, and make himself laugh as well.

I was happy I’d given him a chance, but for some reason, in the back of my mind, I still wanted Marty.

Writers Room and Recasting Call for Five Years the Podcast

What is the podcast about?

Five Years is a teslapunk podcast chronicling the dramatic and sometimes ridiculous adventures of the misfit crew and passengers on the Lightning Struck following the Captain, Florence Baker, having an unfortunate run in with a witch, resulting in her, and her crew and passengers being cursed.

• Why are you recasting?

Some actors are either too busy, were mainly selected because they were the only ones to audition for certain parts, do not truly reflect the racial, ethnic, or other backgrounds of various characters, or some combination of the above. At the time of casting I was inexperienced and young, and now want to be better in how I conduct my affairs when writing characters that aren't apart of my particular minority groups.

• What does that mean for me?

It means that I would greatly prefer it if white voice actors didn't audition for non white roles, and will not consider auditions of white VAs for non white roles, as well as cis actors for transgender or otherwise gender variant roles.

• You've had years to write this podcast, why isn't it up?

My computer broke last winter, meaning we couldn't really edit audio, and due to the school year, a lot of us became less involved in the podcast. Due to this I've spent a lot of time researching things for the podcast and reflecting on choices I made, quite a few of which were hasty and ill informed.

• why do the characters have linked Pinterest boards/playlists?

Just in case the audioneer wants to know a little more about the character and their personality/aesthetic

• will I get paid?

As of now, no. This may change in the future (we do have a Patreon that needs to be updated), but currently there is no pay.

• I don't match these characters exactly, what do I do?

Our main priorities are not casting white actors for nonwhite roles, and not casting cis people for trans roles. Were we a podcast with money on hand, we would be more specific with casting, but unfortunately, we aren't.

Bayzli Jancsi Lakatoš

Gender: cisgender male

Sexuality: biromantic and ace

A 17 year old Romani Jew that hails from Poland. Is working a 3 year contract under Captain Baker. He is neat and orderly, and while outgoing, is easily tired when dealing with people he doesn't like or know very well. He is known to notice things about others very quickly, and can remember minor comments people have made from years or months prior with near perfect clarity, is a tad self righteous, and does not back down from challenges or insults.

Voice: young, on the deeper side, has an almost calming quality to it, frequently described as fruity or honeyed, has a Polish accent

A 16 year old Maori-Kanaka Maoli engineering prodigy from Washington DC. Working a contract, like Bayzli. She prefers to be alone, and spends almost as much time reading on new innovations as she does on making her own. She gets anxious in large crowds, and cannot stand the smell of chalk. She is highly enthusiastic and persistent when it comes to her personal projects, takes things too personally, and is easily embarrassed. She is mistrustful of others, spiteful, is noted for having a bizarre humor, and makes decisions based on how she feels more so than what others view as logical.

Voice: a bit raspy, husky, tenor range, has a classically dark voice- think old timey femme fatale actresses, but a bit deeper.

A 15 year old passenger on the Lightning Struck from Harlem. Very proudly black and Jewish. Pisses off everyone with her late night chemistry experiments involving fireworks and explosives. ADHD, bad at prioritizing and making decisions, frequently forgets what she's supposed to be doing, has an idealistic and upbeat worldview. Is notably dismissive of things she doesn't view as important, and is judgemental of those who get in her space. Can talk circles around most people, especially when aided by her brother.

Voice: high, clear, silvery. Commands attention.

I was chatting with @ptw30 (as one does, when procrastinating on adulting) about how each season of VLD has given us different pairing-bait for Allura. But if the EPs’ hints (and what seems like a growing assumption in fandom) is that the story’s headed towards allurance, that’s pushing a message that’s... not really good.

Let’s review.

S1 was totally shallura bait, all over the place. S2 continued this to a lesser degree, but it was still a regular note.

I know how you feel, but you have to step away for a while. It's what's best for everyone.

S2 made various attempts at kallura bait, and really... fell pretty flat. Both the hug-in-space and hug-in-hangar were animated as rather physically-awkward interactions, which didn’t help. Then again, having two halves of a potential pairing on opposite sides of a significant racial conflict is gonna make it tough.

Well, sure, they're bad. No doubt about that. But at the same time, couldn't at least a few of them be fighting for good? ... It just seems crazy to lump everyone together.

Especially when one-half’s defense basically amounts to #NotAllGalra.

S3/S4 was chock full of allurance bait, all the way up to Lance’s impassioned speech inspiring Allura to magic them all out of the Naxzela explosion pokey.

This belongs to you now. If I had to lose Blue to someone, I'm glad it was you.

And then there’s S5, most of which was dominated by equal parts lotura bait and Lance Being Annoyed. Lance’s characterization regressed to shades of who he was in S1, and make it clear exactly what kind of character he really is.

He’s a Nice Guy.

Behind the cut: behold the evidence, minor salt at VA commentary, and two relationships that stand in contrast.

Lance’s Nice Guy Behavior

In S1/S2, Lance’s flirting is both inappropriate and pervasive, and he continues long after it’s clear that Allura neither welcomes nor enjoys his attention. She’s not even drawn ambiguously; her facial reactions make it clear.

Talking? Eating? Are you asking me out on a date?

Note that the narrative undercuts her agency. She reacts with disgust (and Hunk shows a kind of tired disapproval), but the rest of the casts’ lines treat it as a joke. Her reactions are the punchline. It’s soon clear that one time Shiro smacked Lance down for the inappropriate come-on was the exception, not the rule.

It’s not even “just not that into you,” so much as “does not enjoy being treated like a sexual/romantic object in situations entirely unrelated to that.” And with one exception (when Lance lucks on suggesting the one thing that Allura might actually want to do), her reaction doesn’t change. It’s there from the start.

The way she’s animated is almost as consistent as her irritation.

Once into S3/S4, one could argue that Lance had finally realized a friendship had more value. He stopped flirting and started treating Allura with respect, listening as a friend, and recognizing her value and skills.

Until Lotor shows up.

Lance’s opening reaction could be from distrusting Lotor as an enemy...

Look, it’s Prince Lotor, just hangin’ out on the bridge.

...but he quickly moves into distrusting Lotor as competition.

Lotor: ...you and I, a royal alliance between Altean and Galra... Lance: How ‘bout we don’t imagine that?

Lotor’s line could be seen as a thinly-veiled marriage proposition, but there’s wiggle room to take his words at face-value as simply suggesting an alliance. Notably, Allura shows no major reaction, let alone anything near the negative reactions she had for Lance’s flirting.

We get reminders all season that this isn’t a one-time thing. Lance does it over, and over. He’s jealous when Allura responds favorably to Lotor’s compliments.

He’s territorial when Allura and Lotor leave without him, attempting to follow even though the invitation was explicitly only to Allura.

The next shot shows what prompted this reaction: Allura has taken Lotor’s arm. Allura is not animated as particularly physically-demonstrative; most of her touches (except for Coran) tend to be at the shoulders. This specific arm-touch characterizes Allura and Lotor as two people used to formal interactions, and kind of old-fashioned.

The problem is the ambiguity in the framing. I can’t shake the sense it’s meant to ‘reveal’ why Lance reacted badly, and make us sympathize with Lance’s unhappiness at seeing ‘his’ girl off with someone else.

And then we have Lance stressing over Allura to the exclusion of all else, while the team’s busy trying to fix the ship and save their lives.

What’s happening? What do you think they’re doing now?

I’ve seen arguments this is meant to show he’s just, like, really worried. The narrative undercuts that, though, because Lance is the only one expressing these worries. The others could’ve acknowledged his words, and made it clear that Lance is just saying much louder what everyone else feels. But they’re not only blasé, they’re downright annoyed with Lance to the point that Pidge demands for Shiro to get Lance out of their faces.

Canonically, we’ve seen nothing to establish that Lance has an exclusive position vis-a-vis Allura. She’s only extended as much friendship to him as she has to anyone else on the team, yet Lance takes that as grounds to scowl, sulk, and obsess.

This is what Nice Guys do.

To paraphrase an article otherwise not worth quoting, rom-coms teach us ‘the one’ is usually the one who was there all along. (The same article also concluded that “when you get on well already, sometimes all it takes is time (or possibly alcohol) for you to see someone in a new light” and now I think I need to go break something to get over this wave of revulsion.)

two relationships in contrast

Of course, I can’t mention all of the above without pointing out that in-canon, we have two other characters who’ve done it right: Shiro and Lotor.

Shiro's respectful of Allura’s knowledge and authority, not only frequently asking her opinion, but then following her orders. He has his own opinion and voices it, but he does so without dismissing Allura's. He worries but is proactive (he'll go with her, instead), and he doesn't get in her way when she makes her own choice.

When Allura insists she’s part of things and will play a role, the rest of the team is a bit taken aback. Not Shiro. His lack of refusal indicates he sees her position as valid.

Allura: I'm a part of this fight against Zarkon as much as anyone. I'm going. Does anyone have a problem with that? Shiro: Fine. Suit up.

An awful lot of media would have you believe it’s a valid counter-point to say since she’s pretty and a princess, by definition she’s not suited to joining the charge. Shiro doesn’t bother. (Interestingly, the only one who gets sent anywhere alone in S1 is Keith, and there’s an argument to be made that Shiro’s pre-existing knowledge of Keith’s abilities mean Shiro has a greater comfort zone for that.)

Or in short: Shiro is a Good Man.

Meanwhile, Lotor is clearly framed as the ‘bad boy’ -- from his actual position as the son of the Big Bad, to his smooth appearance (that hair), to his accent that codes as ‘high class’ to Americans. If Shiro is the stalwart quasi-military guy who opens doors for women but respects their position in the chain of command, Lotor is the quintessential rebellious rich boy (and even turns out to have a mushy center).

Yet Lotor consistently shows respect for Allura’s agency and perspective, always checking with her first, rather than presuming. He asks for consent, rather than plowing right past Allura’s dis/comfort.

He’s deferent when it’s her area of authority, openly credits her, and seeks her opinion. The few times Lotor gets snappish, it’s usually related to his parents, and Allura shows every sign of realizing the distinction. With no flirtation in play, there’s little reason to see him as having romantic ulterior motives. Sure, he may have other motives, but I’d have a hard time making an argument that Lotor sees Allura as a purely romantic object.

Lotor may be ‘the bad boy’ in this paradigm, but if you look at the way he -- like Shiro -- treats Allura, he’s not a boy, either. Like Shiro, Lotor is also fundamentally a Good Man.

For the most part, I’ve rarely had reason to side-eye Josh Keaton’s interviews, but the recent one where he said something to the effect of Shiro shuts down Lance’s jokes (euphemism for ‘unwelcome flirtation’) because Shiro’s jealous he can’t make those jokes himself...

Cue reaction gif.

Really? We’re talking about a character who insists on persistent attention of a romantic nature, with no regard for the recipient's clear disinterest or obvious discomfort.

We have a name for this: sexual harassment.

Yet Josh thinks the only character who ever speaks up to shut that shit down is doing so because he’s of the ‘if you can’t, I can’t’ school of reasoning?

Josh, wtf, over. Uncool.

There are a lot of places where @dynared and I will bang heads in our interpretations, but somewhere he commented that fandom might be surprised at how the writers aren’t nearly as progressive as some fans would like to think. (Or that the EPs would like us to believe.)

There are smaller examples of that: Keith pulling a #NotAllGalra, or Lance paraphrasing right-wing tripe as “Galra-on-Galra violence”. Or the way early S3 demotes Allura, or makes her fearful, self-doubting, and incompetent. Lance is the biggest case, though: if the end-game is really allurance, that’s like an entire series of positioning the Nice Guy to eventually win his prize.

In a word, that’s disgusting.

If they couldn’t manage a romance subplot without falling into such corrosive tropes, personally I would’ve preferred romance be left out altogether.

Biden can come in and try to change things but it won’t help that many Federal courts have new appointees from the current administration.

It’s pretty sad when we praise him for behaving normally. Biden sounded quite regal and made sense but more detail would have been nice. RWBY Volume 5 Chapter 2: Dread In The Air

Hey everyone! Another week, another RWBY Volume 5 Chapter release! As always I do these little thought things along with the RoosterTeeth site release of the chapter. So if you have an account on RT you can watch right now! Link here!

“I’ve Found the Spring Maiden”

I will say, right off the bad. This episode gives A LOT of focus to the villains which I absolutely love. Aside from Weiss’ big scene, its all bad guys from start to finish and that’s pretty rad. Also, the title is something Lionheart said in the first chapter. Interesting.

To begin, we right away have Watts meeting with Leo and then setting up a conference call with Salem.

This way we learn how Seer Grimms work and it’s incredibly handy in the worst way. Taking down the CCT was a good idea for disrupting communications for the good guys...but the bad guys suffer too right? Except they don’t cause they no doubt have these things everywhere that they need them to be.

Watts and Leo relay to Salem that they’ve found the Spring Maiden as well as letting her know it was Qrow who brought that information to light.

Watts is fun to watch interact with stuff. What a character. And hey! Cinder can talk again. Yay?

Salem sets up the evil team of evil on their new goals. Sending Cinder, Mercury and Emerald to forge an alliance with Raven and the Branwen Tribe in much the way they did with Adam’s sect of the White Fang as well as how they convinced Lionheart.

I read a post saying that Salem is using the power of friendship for evil and that post was hilarious and kinda true. She knows the advantages to forging relationships with other factions. Whether Raven will be easily convinced remains to be seen.

Also, Watts can just make Tyrian a new tail? Fascinating! Can’t wait to see that. Of course poor Scorpion man is gonna have to have a chat with his Goddess. I am very curious as to how that would go.

I really do like seeing Salem lead her evil squad because she does so in a very professional matter, taking everything as it goes and as Qrow said during the campfire chat last Volume. She’s doing a very good job.

UPDATE!

The Seer Grimm. I totally forgot to go all in on this one detail.

Back in Volume 4 when that Seer Grimm comes in, Salem is talking to it. I thought it had control over the Grimm at Beacon and that’s pretty nuts and freaky if Emerald and Mercury’s reactions were anything to go by.

But now that we see she can communicate with people through it...was she communicating with someone in her employ back in Beacon? I don’t know it just got me thinking. Then again given how her eyes glowed maybe she was just talking to the Seer Grimm.

Regardless of who or what was going on there I just think its interesting to point out now that we’ve seen the full capability of the Seer Grimm or well, more things that it could do. Who knows if this is all of it?

“Lancers. Freakin’ Lancers.”

Here we are! The only good guy in this episode: Weiss Schnee. Can I just say, those floating islands are pretty awesome.

These two are cutting through those islands hoping to reach Mistral however the people that radioed for help are also here and after their unfortunate demise, a horde of wasp like Grimm known as Lancers set their sights on Weiss and Mr. Pilot Man.

The rest of this scene is our first fight scene this volume featuring Weiss fending off the Lancers with her various glyphs and spells while the pilot (given the name Fenix Atar by his VA) uses his rad flying skills to help them out of this jam.

It’s a great scene to watch. Weiss is determined!

And once the Lancers are dealt with, a Queen Lancer that was roused by the fight attacks. Weiss summons and her Knight goes for the kill all set to a reprisal of “This Life Is Mine” and its just glorious!

It’s a great scene all the way through and its rad seeing Weiss at work as well as her Knight doing his duty.

The coolest thing is Weiss using her gravity glyphs to try and slow the ship’s crash. That’s awesome. Also, her and Fenix’s banter is fun to listen to

“Nobody Had To Die Today”

Say bye bye to the good guys as we cut back to the villains. Our good friend Adam Taurus (I’m joking) is having a meeting with the High Leader of the White Fang: Sienna Khan.

And by meeting, its more like a scolding since Adam did a bad what with the attack on Beacon. Khan hates the humans as much as he does and wants to place the Faunus above them through violence and assertion, but even she has her limits.

She really does have a point when she states that by Adam’s sect partaking in the Fall of Beacon, more and more people are turning their sights on the White Fang and attacking in retaliation. Sure does present the makings of a war eh? A war Khan has no confidence they can win.

Hazel is of course present as this was the task he was sent to accomplish back in Volume 4. He tries to present his view and convince Khan that by allying with Salem in full, she will be given what she wants, though she is very doubtful Hazel even understands her goal.

Pro-tip to leaders out there with willful underlings. Don’t let them get close to you. The second Adam started approaching Khan, her fate was sealed. And as many out there stated in their thoughts on this episode. When you lead through violence and such, someone under you is going to take it farther and eventually turn on you.

Bad news all around. Adam is now High Leader of the White Fang. That is extremely not good.

This scene also did a lot to highlight the kind of person that Hazel is in at least some respects. Her for sure didn’t like what was happening and was against killing anyone from the moment he walked in. He’d do it if he needed to like he implied, but it wasn’t his first resort.

I wonder how Salem will take this. But I’ll just add that to the list of things I’ll be left wondering till Chapter 3.

“We Just Hit The Jackpot”

Oh right back to Weiss! Hey look people found her! Yay!

Well shit. But for real, this was slightly spoiled for me. I saw the above image not too long before I watched this episode. So when I saw Weiss in the dirt I knew that Raven was going to be the one to find her.

So. Weiss is now being held by the Branwen Tribe, the same Branwen Tribe where the Spring Maiden apparently is AND the same Tribe that Cinder’s Team is headed to AND the same Tribe that Ruby’s Team will probably be headed to in the future. Everyone gonna have a reunion around Raven of all people? Yeesh.

I honestly refuse to believe Yang is headed to find Raven. I think what she said in Chapter 1 was just a reference to the fact that she KNOWS that Raven is in the area cause Tai told her at the end of Volume 4...or well, Qrow told her at some point ant Tai said he knew that Qrow told her.

It would feel disjointed to me as she pretty much had a smile in her voice declaring “You are in so much trouble.” If it winds up being true, I will be the slightest bit annoyed cause it just doesn’t make sense to me but I’ll roll with it.

All in all, those are my thoughts on RWBY Volume 5, Chapter 2: Dread in the Air

I was really REALLY looking forward to seeing Ruby and company interact with Oscar more, maybe even hear a bit of Ozpin but now it just excites me even more for those interactions in Chapter 3.

That’s 2 of 14 down and this volume really is a blast to watch so far. Can’t wait for more!

But by suppliers and the reason I don’t look at products is because, one supplier can offer multiple products and you don’t want to be sending the same template to, multiple different product listings that are all routing to the Sea, supplier, save yourself even more time, head over to suppliers, write the two important ones here are gold supplier, and trade assurance, definitions of those just go ahead and look them up on Ali Baba I’m there, pretty easy to find, write 100% product quality protection, pre-qualified by Alibaba, and let’s look through some of these rights of these pictures are not what we’re looking for even though the top listing so don’t be confused by that right I mean, and right here we go so these are at these are a little bit more like what we like, Looking for, diezel amps, and it looks like they have some, lava lamp, when is necessary there, there a main product, book skip that one, he’s obviously just lamps, right looks like these guys their main product is lava lamps are there at least advertising it that way, white sox looking at probably you know at least five, and once you have these kind of five companies upright, each one of them is has kind of the same layout it says the, the total revenue their employees right you wouldn’t you want to make sure that they have, in a reasonable amount of, employees and Revenue, something that you can do before you really, are going to end up to the next level, is just, grab their, company name, starting a Google, right and see if this is actually matching up, the sun pay, looks like they have a website, Yep so it looks like they’re real, prototyping companies in, china Wok, spherion Staffing technology, right sales department of a video, stop ad, yes you can do the same thing with each one but basically what we’re going to do here is just go ahead and click contacts the flyer, i need one that you’d want to do the same thing for all these right make sure that it’s a real company you know they’re obviously doing big numbers they have enough employees, contact supplier, supplier, same thing contact supplier, so now it’s really talk, about, the manufacturer’s, but right so it’s important if you’re going to be reaching out to a lot of death, different manufacturers, all the time to kind of get one of these made right it’s going to save you a lot of time especially if your VA is working for you cuz they can kind of, Stupidest refuse, vision for you, can I do some of that the tedious legwork, that’s really just plugging fly you to show my URL to an Amazon listing and they, take the product, details of a thing of relevant, throw me to the park specs category and then basically just, get the same, answers, answer the questions that we ask for that right so, what are the things were going to go through each of these really kind of step-by-step so you guys understand exactly why each one of these portions, i’m so you want you want to portray yourself as a lead purchasing agent right you’re not just a guy sitting in your underwear, chilling in your garage trying to you know back of a lava lamps you’re an international company right you’re you’re speaking on, half of the CEO of the board of directors right you want to sound official you want to make it you want to make it sound like, You are worth their time and that they want to offer you the lowest.

Listen to this, listen to carefully cuz I wish somebody would have told me you what I’m about to tell you, because it’s it’s super super important, 30%, ensamples, always pay with PayPal, do it goods and services, and pay that goods and services fee with a credit card, not your bank balance be absolutely sure, that you were paying that that 30% and the sample fees, with a credit card, not your bank,, right like I’m not going to I’m not going to repeat myself a third time but, please please if you can listen to anything I say this entire video, just listen to that because, you can dispute you can just do things with your credit card companies and it just gives you so much more protection and I, can’t I cannot stress enough, how worth the extra 3%, that is if you ever run into any type of trouble so just trust me on that 30%, Always with PayPal all your the credit card, right into the 70% normally this is done with a bank wire transfer right, cuz it’s not fair to the manufacturers in all cases to cuz they get charged super exorbitant fees for PayPal over in China, so most most places will let you especially for a fresh relationship with pay with PayPal for, for the 30% but its 70% is normally done via wire, you can set this up with a bank write any Bank, you can pretty much do it online, normally the species range between 25 and $40 to send a wire transfer, anything to be sure of, when you’re doing. Guys is that you have to get an inspection done to be, 4, you pay that 70, percent right and you want a thorough inspection, and so we have we have list of the inspection services that that we use and we had amazing success with you, They’re giving you a hundred fifty page, reports with, you know a bunch of HD pictures and all of their different, notes in any you know, small quality errors and all the different packaging no count the number of units, you know it’s beautiful right and that’s only $99 right with the people we use so if you guys are interested in that head over to the Facebook group, and we will definitely be happy to share, who are using for inspection, so PayPal for the 30%, wire transfer for the 70, and then before you pay that 70% make sure you get your inspection done, and what we like to do guys with, suppliers is set just like a super simple purchase agreement, before we agree that you know going to business with them, and what we say is if the inspection fails as determined by us the buyer, Then it will be on the set will be on the seller so the manufacturer on Alibaba, the pay for a reinspection, and that’s actually coming to play with us a couple times right because if it fails determined by us you know if there’s too many Quality Air, then they basically have to fix it all and then they have to pay for it to be re-inspected so they’re going to make damn sure, that there’s no more Heroes again and it’s, it’s really worked out really well for us guys so, those are pretty much all of my tips for suppliers if you’re watching this point I promise you I’ve saved, probably a hundred hours of pain, and potentially you know thousands and thousands of dollars, that you could have potentially missed out on, so I hope that’s helpful guys, I got the hook up.
