If you know me, you know I love summer fics. This is the ultimate summer fic.
Just reading the summary got me in my feels! Summer is inherently such a warm and happy time for me that the idea of a summer where someone is quiet and lonely feels wrong. Everyone deserves love and joy all the time, but especially in summer. Summer is about laughter and lemonade and shrieking when someone’s sticky cold hands tickle your sides. Thank god for insufferable mermen!
ROOMMATES TO FRIENDS TO LOVERS (immediate yes.)
Tokyo girl to a home by the sea...dreamy. I love your writing itself but I think just the details of your work, bare bones without any of the meat of metaphors or even plain description, are also so captivating. Just the concept of a girl home from the city about to embark on this magical adventure that she doesn’t know is awaiting her is calling to me like a siren. I smell salt instead of city smoke.
I got so excited about a best friend only to have my hopes promptly dashed. I love when we’re given support and community in fics - but I also know you’ll do this decision justice! It’s also just a hard truth of life. When I moved away for college, I also came home to find places haunted by old friendships that fizzled out. That’s just the way life moves sometimes. I’m excited to see how reader deals with this, especially since there’s potential there. You’ve mentioned that reader is socially anxious, so this could all be just in her head. It’s very endearing to me that reader is aware of her tendency to overthink and we can see her trying to rationally think through Minori’s ‘coldness’.
SUNSET BEACH HANGOUT. I LOVE BEING ON THE BEACH AT NIGHT. Silently nudging this reader towards going.
Reader’s such a sweetheart for thinking of her friend.
NOOOOO MINORI I HAD FAITH IN YOU.
There’s something else going on isn’t there 😭 no way you come home to your BEST FRIEND and she acts like this. Reader I need you to stop ignoring your instincts. It’s something with Hayato.
Reader’s so cute lmao. Daydreaming about rekindling a high school crush just from seeing him. I want to pat her head.
NOOOOO 😭 WHYYYYYYYY
I really like Shinomiya 🥲 This is like Hideo from DDAO. I always get attached to the NPCs lmao. They’re just sweet guys! And Gojo is...himself (an asshole) (my most beloved).
Poor reader. How lonely it must be to grow up feeling like you don’t belong.
I really like how calm this reader is! Even though she’s upset about the situation, she’s handling it in a very emotionally mature way - withdrawing herself from an upsetting situation, taking the time to digest it, etc.
The minute after I said this she immediately tripped and fell face first into a WORSE situation and (justifiably) panicked lmao 😭.
I really want Gojo to WAKE UP and start DOING SOMETHING so I can see how reader will react to it lol. You call yourself the strongest and you’re as limp as a dead fish? Get up right now.
Title drop!
So excited for part 2.
pairing: fem!reader x merman!satoru gojo
summary: you were excited to return home for the summer, but all that excitement is quickly thrown out the window and you nearly resign yourself to a quiet and lonely summer.
the insufferable merman you rescued, however, has other plans.
contents: degrees of social anxiety from the reader, fem!reader (no pronouns used, reader is referred to as physically smaller than gojo)
notes: uh. this was written for the teahouse mermay collab! but, uh, gonna probably spend the summer writing this because somehow plot happened. will happen. this work will end up being a roommates to friends to maybe lovers fic so please look forward to it. uh. not sure what else to say. i usually don’t post multi-part fics to tumblr, but since i don’t expect this fic to get too long i figured it would be okay this time around lmao. i expect to eat my words. anyway this fic can also be found on ao3!
word count: 4.3k

It’s the first time you’ve been home in a while, and honestly speaking, you don’t know how you feel about it.
At first, you were excited. As much as you enjoyed city life in Tokyo, you still missed your little seaside hometown. It was your parents’ idea to come home to visit, not so much because they missed you too, but because they wanted you to watch the house while they went on a summer long trek across Europe. As luck would have it, the time of their departure coincided with the expiration of your apartment’s lease. With no intent on renewing it, you figured you might as well return home for the summer and save a little bit on rent before moving into your new place.
