I guess I'm obsessed with Final Fantasy 7 now. That's pretty cool. I nearly was when I was fifteen, but I didn't have access to the game, so I just felt guilty that I couldn't stop thinking about a game I hadn't even played.
Turns out you can do whatever you want forever, but I didn't know that at the time.
But I would rather obsess over something I'm familiar with, so I really should get around to beating the original game. My third attempt at doing that is going okay, but I started stalling a bit at Junon. But if I could get through the Junon-Dyne plot tunnel in Rebirth, I can do that in the original game as well. My last attempt stopped at the Gold Saucer, and I'm nearly there now.
I just don't like missing things, even if the things aren't all that important, and you can eventually go back and get them once you've advanced the plot another ten hours. I'm using a guide, but it's still putting me on edge.
I am having fun; I just need to be alert for the fun to materialise, and that limits when I can play it. I'm getting there!
Also, I beat Rebirth a little while ago. I did the final fight on Easy, but that was more because I didn't want to go through the... seven? boss battles before the final final boss again. I think what was happening in the final fight was that Sephiroth starts charging an ultimate attack when his health is depleted enough. This makes his stagger gauge go down, and when the gauge hits zero, he unleashes his attack and kills you really quickly.
But I was saving all my strongest attacks to use on him while he was staggered, and since the game won't let you deplete his health completely before he's started his ultimate attack, so he became invincible until he was out of stagger, started his ultimate attack, and since his stagger gauge was zero because he'd just come out of stagger, he immediately used it. And I'd just used all my ATB while trying to kill him while he was staggered, so I couldn't even try to recover.
And I'm pretty bad at action RPGs to begin with, so I didn't feel like engaging with the battle system to redo all the fights just to have the game acknowledge that I finished the main story. Maybe some other time.
