I am looking forward to next week, because 6.3... but also not looking forward to it because I have to become a decent Dragoon by then for progging several new people through P8S.
#ignore the dragon#I like Dragoon#but I'm not really all that good at it#I play an OKAY Dragoon at best#I know the rotation and opener#but for some reason I always drift when I'm doing the rotation#like badly drift to the point my buffs wind up being completely dyscyned by the third minute#and I don't know why this happens#I cannot figure it out and it bothers me#I really do think me being on Dragoon will prove to be a problem#but the group wants me specifically to be present for the prog#since I'm the tank main#and have been pretty successful with tanking P8S and know what I'm doing in there#they want me to help the two new tanks we're helping prog#so I understand why they want me to be present#I just wish I could be like Bard for doing it#I play Bard as my main DPS#but that would put three ranged DPS#and that can make meeting the DPS check kinda difficult#I need to ask an FC mate who uses Dragoon to help me keep from getting desynced with my rotation

A majority of pvp in ffxiv is following where most of your teammates are going. If people have callouts, try to head where they’re suggesting. With time it’ll start making more sense, but it’s very hard to explain the strategizing without already having more experience wand it’ll just overwhelm you. You should start by surviving as long as you can in group skirmishes - be sure to use your Recuperate GENEROUSLY. Ninja’s LB can one shot you if your health is below 50%, Dragoon’s can too, so try to stay above 50%. This is mostly for frontlines. Start out as a DPS if you have the jobs - practice a rotation in Wolves Den before you hit frontlines.
For Crystalline Conflict, I’d suggest giving duels a try! If you go to Wolves Den Pier and hang out at the dueling area random people will duel you, and you can always use /s to ask if anyone can help you practice. Once you understand the basics of 1v1, understand the basics of CC. If you tank, stay on the crystal as much as possible. This will be the difference between throwing and winning. As DNC main in CC nothing irritates me more than somehow getting more time on the crystal than a WAR who can survive for far longer than I can in the same spot, thus giving us a much better chance at regaining the crystal and pushing.
It’s only stress inducing if you let it be. It can be comical how easy it is to just straight up die in 2 hits sometimes, but don’t let a few deaths upset you too much. Everyone dies if they’re actually making an effort to win. I promise NO ONE is keeping an eye on you and judging how well you’re doing. 99% of the time, everyone is focused on the objective and their own survival. This was something it took me a long time to understand!! But it helps.
Overall, a lot of pvp in ffxiv takes time to learn. I suggest hopping in with FC mates! I’ve only been able to understand best through learning from friends. If you need anyone to duel with and show you some tips I’m Fae Ra in Primal Behemoth and I’m online most of the time ❤️!
if anyone in the ffxiv community sees this and does pvp can you tell me if its stressful and if you have any tips? im a stressful wreck who will fear fuckin it up but i really want the armor set so T -T
