Fall in Boston (Japril Imagine)
Age Rating: 12+
Chapters: One of One
Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy
Ship: Jackson Avery x April Kepner
AN: Happy Fall y’all! I decided to do fall themes for our favorite ships right here starting with Japril. Like and reblog below and let me know what you think.
Summary: Jackson and April spend the day in the park with their daughter Harriet during their first fall in Boston as a family.
Words: 1340
September 25, 2020
“Mommy, daddy can we go to the swings?!”
Harriet implores her parents in front of them who look at the swing set in the children’s playground. It was Jackson and April’s day off, so they decided to spend the day with Harriet exploring Boston Common Park.
The small family moved to Boston three months ago when Jackson decided to quit his job at Grey Sloan and run the foundation from his hometown. At first April was skeptical of this radical change and worried they would upend Harriet for no reason. However, Jackson convinced her this wasn’t impulsive instead it was the second time he was completely sure of what he wanted. The first time was when he got back together with April.
Although she was still slightly reluctant, April supported her husband and followed him with Harriet not wanting to be away from him after so many years apart. Since then, she was glad they did this feeling the same calling that Jackson felt.
The foundation has helped her establish a free clinic open for homeless communities and people who can’t afford healthcare. April has even reached out to Arizona about building a program offering free annual exams, birth control, and prenatal care for low-income women.
Also, in terms of her personal life she, Jackson and Harriet are better than ever. April thinks that getting away from Seattle and starting fresh somewhere else was just what their relationship needed to kickstart into the blissful, normal family dynamic she has wanted with him since they married. And Harriet loves Boston just like Jackson did growing up with the parks being her favorite part of this city.
April smiles at her excited daughter, “Sure Ladybug but first we gotta clean it, let’s go!”
Jackson and April lead Harriet to the swings where April pulls out sanitized wipes from her purse and starts wiping the seat attacked to chains. She is vigorous in her technique wiping the swing strongly like she is rubbing the germs to death. Jackson lifts Harriet up in his arms imitating a rocket that makes her giggle before putting her inside the blue seat.
“Push daddy!”
“What do you say honey?” Jackson asks with a smile.
“Please push daddy!” Harriet repeats politely to April’s joy smiling at her daughter taking her please and thank you lessons to heart. She wants Harriet to be just as kind as she is smart so she can succeed in life like the rest of her family.
“Very good let’s go sky high.” Jackson starts to push Harriet causing her to giggle as she swings forward with her parents behind her. While he pushes her Harriet looks around them being enthralled by the scenic beauty that has come this autumn.
Fall officially started three days ago and since then the leaves on the trees have changed from green to orange. It’s the kind of scene she grew up in except there were less skyscrapers around her. But even the tall buildings can’t diminish the amazing sight that comes from the seasons changing.
“Fall is the most beautiful time of the year.” Jackson confesses to April who turns to find him grinning at her awestruck expression, “It’s not too hot, it’s not too cold, the leaves change, it’s perfect in every way. Also you get to dogpile on mountains of leaves that are raked up in your front lawn, that was my favorite part.”
April grins at this, “Well maybe it can be Harriet’s favorite thing too, that’s the beauty of buying a house with an actual lawn. My favorite thing about fall is the pumpkin spice lattes that are deeply appreciated in such a short time.” April sips her fall themed latte that they picked up on their way to the park.
Jackson chuckles knowing about April’s sweet tooth, “It’s the one time you will buy high priced coffees.”
“Hey, don’t knock it till you try it. I can’t make it nearly as good as the underappreciated barista behind the counter. Also, it’s the perfect season to binge on Gilmore Girl’s, it’s the best comfort show that makes you appreciate Fall.”
Jackson keeps pushing Harriet, “Well I’ve never seen it so I wouldn’t know.” April frowns at this and her eyes bug out like she heard him confessing a murder to his amusement, “What?”
“You have never seen Gilmore Girls?” April asks not able to comprehend this atrocity, “My schedule is the same as yours and I binge the four seasons like their a lifeline because they are when the leaves turn orange. I mean if we were married longer, you would know what I mean.”
Jackson narrows his eyes confused, “I thought there were like 10 seasons of that show, but you said 4, why?”
“There are seven seasons, and I binged all of them, but Rory’s character took a nosedive once she went to college. Seasons 1-4 are where I’m convinced the show begins and ends.”
Jackson laughs at that, “See that is where Breaking Bad is different. There’s no best season or worst season, it’s just great in every way imaginable.”
April groans, “Not this again. I thought we agreed you would stop trying to get me to watch that show with you. You know that sad shows make me sad too.”
“I do but we never shook on it so I will keep persisting.” April rolls her eyes at him, “Most of my friends are back in Seattle and Harriet isn’t old enough to watch it, you’re my only option for a binging buddy.”
“Oh, that makes me feel so special.” April sarcastically jokes with a smile watching their daughter who is smiling as she reaches the sky in her swing.
Jackson gets an idea in his head that makes him smile, “How about this for a covid safe date night? I will give this Gilmore Girls show of yours a chance if you give Breaking Bad the same treatment right after. I think it’s a fair deal and you get to watch the greatest show of all time at last. What do you say?”
April chuckles at this but feels compelled to it if only to introduce her love to her favorite comfort show, “Deal but I get to pick the snacks.”
“As long as I get to choose the drinks.” April nods, “Awesome it’s a date then.” The parents keep pushing their daughter who is laughing and enjoying this quality time together.
That Night
‘I want a weekly dinner.’
Jackson and April are curled up on the couch in the tv room watching Gilmore Girls halfway in the pilot when Lorelai visits her parents to ask for money for Rory’s tuition. While they watch the girly show there is a bowl of caramel popcorn in April’s hands that Jackson has easy access to as she is comfortably in his arms. Jackson notes that she added Rolos and M&M’s into the mix that makes it sweeter.
“I’m guessing Lorelai’s got as much rich parents’ problems as me?” Jackson asks intrigued.
April grins at the similarity, “Except for the political alignments, the dad sticking around and the getting pregnant at 16 yeah the Avery and Gilmore clans are one and the same. Are you liking it so far?”
“It’s okay.” Jackson takes popcorn for himself, “I’m not a sitcom guy but I can see why you like it. Although it could be a little slower, the fast-paced dialogue is confusing me.”
“It’s what makes it so good.” April smiles at her husband, “Your able to catch up on fast pace surgical steps but not with a girly show that says a lot about you.”
“Thanks babe.” Jackson says with a chuckle. April grabs a Rolo from her bowl, offers it to Jackson who opens his mouth allowing her to feed the chocolate to him. They smile at succumbing to the feeding your partner cliché but enjoy it as they continue watching the show that makes them appreciate autumn more as well as date night and each other.

May I please have a Vectors of the Universe spread for Karkat Medigo please? (I don't know if you need a guiding question, if you do just uh. Lmk please.)
This is a VERY long reading, so it’ll all be under the cut! Also, I know this is a volunteer-run blog, but I am Very Unemployed And Broke™️ at the moment, so I might start charging $1 per card for readings that are over five cards since the longer readings tend to take a lot of energy. If y’all are ok with that, let me know! Also, I’ll be using the Homestuck Kickstarter deck and this spread as requested!
———————————–
Space: represents the beginning, the initial spark, or the catalyst of the problem or situation
I got the upright Page of Cups, which symbolizes a melancholy and passionate youth, artistic, imaginative, helpful to the Querent, and the birth of a child. You were incredibly creative, and your passion needed to be let out! Additionally, there may have been someone helping you along.
———————————–
Hope: represents your motivating force, the thing that drives you forward and what you hope will happen
I got the upright Ace of Swords, which symbolizes triumph, victory, legal conquest, great force, great love, Divine love, and karmic balance. Your motivator was the ability to succeed despite all the challenges you faced, especially with the strength and assistance of your loved ones. You wanted to triumph, to show all the people who said you couldn’t do it wrong!
———————————–
Rage: represents your roadblocks, the things that hold you back or make you hesitate, and what you fear will happen
I got the reversed Fool card, which symbolizes missed opportunities, misadventures, unexpected problems, unrealistic goals, and stupidity. You may have tended to act without thinking, but you were (somewhat) aware of it. Your awareness may have made you scared to move forward, worried about what would happen if you went too far. You also didn’t want to be a burden on those close to you due to your actions, which may have caused hesitancy as well.
———————————–
Light: represents what you are most aware of, a goal to look forward to, or what you consider most important
I got the upright Two of Cups, which symbolizes love, harmony, reciprocity, friendships, balance, soulmates, spiritual marriage, and internal balance. This circles back to the shufflemancy you requested recently, as you were in a happy relationship with someone who cared about you. You deeply valued this relationship and wanted it to be the best it could be!
———————————–
Void: represents what you are unaware of, something you are indifferent to, or something you haven’t considered yet
I got the reversed Page of Pentacles, which symbolizes a decadent person, waste, idleness, disappointing meetings, and delayed messages. There may have been someone in your circle who held you back, but you weren’t aware of how their actions harmed you. They only brought bad news (if they delivered it at all), but you either didn’t notice or turned a blind eye to it.
———————————–
Blood: represents how you are working towards your goal and what must be done in order to achieve your goal, what is your stable working foundation
I got the reversed Death card, which symbolizes disaster, internia, revolution, anarchy, upheaval, and political change. You needed to face your fears and persevere to meet your goals, even if that meant going through a highly dark point in your life. It may have endangered your life, but you needed to be courageous and make your way through it. Additionally, there also may have been another attempt at an Alternian revolution, which may have played an essential part in meeting your goals.
———————————–
Breath: represents what sort of options you have, what kind of choices you can make, the directions you could possibly go in, or simply represents the things you have a lot of options or choices for
I got the reversed Seven of Swords, which symbolizes new beginnings, impulsive action, a generous nature, and relaxation after stress. You had the option to go it alone or the better option, which was to accept the help of those around you. With help, the weight would’ve been lifted off your shoulders. There were new directions your life was taking you in as well, and you needed to decide which path to take.
———————————–
Heart: represents the internal view of the situation, how everything looks or feels like to you, or the emotional view of the situation
I got the upright Three of Pentacles, which symbolizes craftsmanship, skill, a trade, the skilled artist, material increase, and commercial transactions. Tying back to your creativity that was the beginning, you were proud of how far you came, especially as your skill increased. You were finally reaching your goals and getting your deepest desires. This card was hard to interpret in its place on the spread, so if you can come up with a better meaning, let me know!
———————————–
Mind: represents the external view of the situation, how everything looks or feels to everyone around you, or the logical view of the situation
I got the reversed Magician card, which symbolizes indecisiveness, lack of willpower, weak intellect, arrogance, and false knowledge. To others, it may have seemed like you had difficulty making decisions or couldn’t go on on your own. They felt you needed more independence, especially when making important choices. While their advice was undoubtedly helpful, there were some things that you alone needed to decide. You may have seemed a tad manipulative at times as well, though this most likely wasn’t your intent.
———————————–
Life: represents the resources, ideas, things, or forces entirely within your control and the things, situations, or people you have the most influence over
I got the reversed Tower card, which symbolizes gain at great cost, false accusations, false imprisonment, and oppression. You had quite the ability to cause conflict through your actions. Additionally, even though you faced oppression due to your place on the hemospectrum, you could gain freedom from it, but not without a significant loss.
———————————–
Doom: represents the resources, ideas, things, or forces entirely out of your control and the things, situations, or people you have the least influence over
I got the upright Page of Swords, which symbolizes a young person in government service or law enforcement, a diplomat, and espionage against you. You had the least control, fittingly, over the Alternian government and how they treated you. You may have been targeted, possibly tying into the Blood card placement on the spread. You needed to keep the peace and avoid those attacking you with great precision.
———————————–
Time: represents the end result, the final outcome, or the continuing pattern of the problem or situation
I got the upright Two of Wands, which symbolizes courage, embarking on new endeavors, physical wealth, fortune, desire, aspirations, restlessness, required patience, illness, sadness, and depression. In the end, you got everything you needed materially and in your placement in society, which, from the rest of the reading, was most likely your goal! But you needed to make sure you didn’t fall into inactivity and depression, so you needed to continue setting new goals and moving onto new paths. You needed to push yourself to go on, but not so much that you got burnt out. It was time to focus on the spiritual rather than the material and to exercise patience.
———————————–
I hope this helps you, and let me know if it does!

—MAKE YOU SAY “OH” EXTRAS: TINDER
extra meaning non-canonical occurrence; can be placed anywhere in the “make you say oh” timeline after couple (cha. 14) and before the final “oh”.
pairing—corpse husband x f!reader warnings—tinder profiles, tw: men, swearing. word count—2.6k. format— written. ─── ❥ req by nonnie: y/n makes a youtube vid/live stream where she's just swiping through her tinder acc and corpse literally blocks her lmao
author’s note—akldsljfs this was such a funny idea i could not not write it lmao
ultimate masterlist. myso masterlist
You have pulled the biggest brain move by setting up both a facecam and a screen recorder on your phone. All is beautifully displayed and visible during the stream. Your fanbase is particularly intrigued on what exactly are you planning on doing today, seeing as your tweet of “strea” had been a bit vague, if not downright ominous. No emojis. No elaboration. You couldn’t even be bothered to finish the word. Truly, a mystery. Everyone tuned in and are currently waiting with bated breath.
A few of your fans must sense upcoming doom because the overall mood in the chat turns from optimistically intrigued to...evil. It’s an entity all on it’s own now, clawing at you through the screen with various renditions of laughter and devil emojis. A few eggplants thrown in there for good measure, accompanied, naturally, by the scandalous water drops. At first the common consensus is that you’re biting the bullet and going through your camera roll on stream. Definitely an idea worth considering, though you frankly don’t know what lies at the start of the 11k photograph journey, and you are afraid to check in public. Could be a harmless meme, could be a salacious pic you had saved of an OF star. It’s really a gamble. Either way, you would definitely get banned. You might still get banned. Why do you insist on doing shit like this?
Because it’s funny. Because you’re kinda stupid. Because it’s just so absolutely laughably easy to do.
A smile quirks your lips, and while it is not explicitly smug, the look in your eyes sure is, “Greetings,” You utter lowly, dimming the lights--the budget for this stream! Ugh, you went all out, “my children.”
mother i crave violence
sensing evil energy rn!!
i do not claim the energy in this video for myself or anyone else watching this 💖💖
^with peace and love shut the fuck up
“I know y’all lowkey hoes-” Upon your words the chat splits into two: one side eagerly agrees (even shares a few OF accounts! How helpful, supporting small businesses!), whilst the other feverishly insists on innocence. You make a face stuck somewhere between offended and bewildered, “Now c'mon now-I know you. I know you all. We’re the same, don’t-what was that?”
You try to scroll back to the comment but it’s loss in the sea of incoming messages, “I swear to God I just saw-”
Corpse_Husband: i love late night streams it’s not like i have anything better to do.
“COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORPSE!!!!”
rip headphone users
i cant feel my face when im with you by the weeknd but instead of face its my fucking ears
yall think full vol on pc is better?my parents woke up 😭😭😭😭
To think he’s spending his last waking moments for today with watching you (he probably still would have anyway, because you do not posses an ounce of shame or self-control and pester him relentlessly)! It makes your heart sing, and suddenly, a traitorous, fun hating idea barges it’s way through the crowd of incoherent buzzing and states: don’t do this. For some reason it also has the voice of Rae. As if that would work in guilt-tripping you- Rae never succeed, and her fictitious rendition in mind won’t fare much better either.
Still, you thought about it. That must count for something. Corpse will understand, won’t he? Why don’t you want to upset it in the first place? Men look so funny when they lose their shit, like hello, don’t you have anything better to do? But the image of Corpse just sitting there, hurt, distraught, leaving you on seen because he’s in his sad boy hours leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
queen rly went from 🥺😊 to 😕 u ok bbgirl?
Corpse_Husband: no pouts cutie
akjdjoeijdfse cUTIE??? deadass boutta r.i.p.
Well that succeeded in eliminating everything from mind, doubts included. If this was an anime, the scenery would shift into something roseate, with flowers and bubbles and sparkles all around you along with a halo or two. Alas, not an anime, rather reality. The led-lights, however, seemingly possessing a will of their own, slowly turn from deep violet to pink. You smile brightly, like the absolute dumbass you are, and you are met with a ray of heart and blushing emojis. You are just so cute, a real cutie! Still in your disguise adorable state, you swipe your finger on your phone screen, the grin never leaving your lips.
There, among the plethora of apps, nestled sits a red square with a white fire plastered on it. The delicate calligraphy on the bottom reads: TINDER.
The mood changes once again- you’re giving the roaches emotional instability by how quickly everything flips over- and the chat spams eggplants vigorously; some, of course, bravely fight against the thirst.
nooooooo i thought y/n is gonna stream in a god honoring way!!!
^pack it up girl defined
“So, Charlie and I-” You note a few awfully curious comments and squint, “-yes, we talk a lot. Charlie is a really good friend of mine. We’re best friends. Brothers. Sisters. Cousins. The whole fucking family tree-no, that sounds weird. Delete. Anyway, Charlie, being the absolute fucker he is, said, hey, you know what would be funny? And I was like, nooo, what would be funny, Charlie? And he says to me, he says, says, making fun of men on Tinder. And if y’all need any more proof that Charlie and I are platonic soulmates, then dunno, my children, my roaches, I dunno-I dunno what more to give you.”
You can’t be bothered reading the comments, there’s too damn many. You also need to save your reading comprehension for the actual bios. It has a time limit, that darn thing.
“Okay, so I made a profile earlier, but I hadn’t swiped on anyone yet-” Despite the fact, Tinder helpfully informs you that already 99+ people have swiped right on you, “So, this is me,” You show the pictures you have of yourself, and damn, not to be a conceited narcissist, but you look really good. Like if you saw yourself on Tinder, you’d super like instantly. “Uhm, so, my bio-my bio says: let’s sauce in the tub together, ya dig? splishy splashy, giggle giggle.”
i cant believe we are witnessing y/n trying to form a coherent sentence live
shes trying give her time
ya dig??? y not capeesh
what scene from the godfather is this lol?
“My anthem, is,” You laugh, covering your lips with your hand, “Corpsie, this is form you-” Proudly, you show that indeed, Corpse’s E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY FUCKING LIFE is listed as your anthem on Spotify, “Hehe.” Yes, you say that aloud.
Corpse_Husband: you’re killing me Corpse_Husband: thanks baby Corpse_Husband: now delete tinder ❤︎
You ignore his last quip, deciding it’s finally time to get this show on the road, “Right, let’s do this shit. I’m not actually going to swipe on any guys that look, uh, decent? Yuck, can’t believe I just said that, uhm, because I-because I feel like some actually deserve a chance with someone? I don’t wanna get anyone’s hopes up, as I am currently in a long distance relationship with Chrollo. So I’m just gonna swipe on, like, frat boy assholes. Because I don’t care if I hurt their feelings. Quite frankly I don’t think they possess them in the first place.”
The chat voices their agreements. With the ground rules set, you, giddy, click on the first profile.
Does Tinder know what you’re doing, your plan? The FBI agent watching you through your phone must be working overtime, bless his heart. They must, because the the first guy to meet you is named Jason, and there he is, blond hair and blue eyes, holding up a fish the size of his torso. Marginally adequate in looks, pretty good muscles. A solid 7 bordering on 8. He’s the same age as you, 15 miles away, and he studies at some college you don’t care enough to look up. Bio reads:
I like to drive fast. Fishing is my passion, but if you can’t catch me by the ocean, you’ll catch me catching waves, bro! Love a good gym date. You do squats, and I’ll keep a close eye to make sure you’re doing it correctly ;) You probably saw me at a party. Leader of the The Phi Kappa Psi. I’m a Gemini, if that matters lol.
You, of course, read it aloud, dramatically; provide some constructive criticism-he seems nice, but he’s a Gemini, so naturally, you can’t trust him at all! Also, that gym date session leaves little to be desired. With your rant done, you swipe right, and shocker! (not), it’s an instant match.
“Okie, I still wanna swipe of some profiles, so I’ll see what he’ll text later-” For a second you wonder the legalities of this stream, but you’re having too much fun to think of it further, “guys, I won't get sued, right?”
NOW she considers it
well....
if you do, we’ll kickstart your lawyer dw <3
Onto the next profile. Kevin, 25, is seen fixing his car- or, you assume he’s mid-fixing it, you don’t really know why else he’d hold a wrench and be covered in oil. He’s shirtless, and the caveman part of your brain echoes something closely resembling AWOOOGA!, but...but!...blonde hair, blue eyes. You pout again, “I don’t...I don’t really like blond boys, ya know? With the blue eyes and all, it’s just not my thing, uhm, unless it’s like-like...Armin from Attack on Titan. Else I don’t care.”
Onto the bio:
You have to treat a car like you treat a woman: go on long rides, take the lead, but most importantly, keep her oiled up 😜
“What the fuck did I just read?”
The chat is equally confused. You swipe right anyway- another match. Too easy.
The stream continues without incident for a solid thirty minutes- all of your matches, expect a few that genuinely looked like normal dudes that really couldn’t write a decent bio to save their lives, had been blond hair blue eyed gym rats with ranging forms of misogyny. Some opened with asking for nudes out right, some asked about your day first before asking for nudes. You prefer the former. Straight to the point! You admire the gall.
But then, down the forty-five minute mark a profile popped up that made you still by your phone, your smile dying as your eyes bulged. Dear God. Lord in heaven. Who is this demonspiit lookalike and why is he so fucking hot? The neck tats, the skateboard, the clothes- holy shit, you gotta close your mouth before some drool dribbles out.
No bio, just his name, Tyler, and that he’s 23.
“He boutta be 23 in me.” You mutter, swiping right with lightning speed.
WHAT DID SHE SAYYYYY?????????
tyler is y/ns karma for relentlessly mocking that one guy that had a whole ass list on what his “female” partner should be
^he deserved it and also tyler seems like a typical fuckboi y/n grow a braincell
look at mom 🥺 her eyes are sparkling
It wasn’t a match right away. You somehow expected as much, but it still upset you. Simp behavior, pathetic. The stream continued bravely, and when Tyler messaged you a simple “yo” you totally didn’t sequel. You didn’t manage to text him back on stream: texting all those guys that you didn’t really find all that attractive was easy, but this...You’re a sucker for a man who radiates red flag energy. His whole profile is a red flag. He might just be a red flag himself.
What can you do? Suddenly becoming color blind is not easy. Once the stream ends, you unmatch with everyone expect Tyler. He you chat with for a bit, but a sudden craving for different company makes you abandon him, too. You don’t feel too heartbroken for him- you’re certain there’s already too many girls in his dms. You wish them luck.
Happily, you delete Tinder. You go to Twitter, notice you’re trending again- look at you go! Queen shit- and as you compose a thank you tweet, something strange happens. You go to text Corpse, but when you click on his profile you grow cold.
YOU’RE BLOCKED. You can’t follow or see @/Corpse_Husband ‘s Tweets.
...Pardon? You hop onto Instragram and-also blocked. Seriously? And you thought you’re one petty bitch. Corpse is seriously prissy about everything. Damn, if he didn’t like your stream, he could’ve just said so. Didn’t need to, like, block you from his internet existence. So not cool.
You try texting him but no text go through. Well how will you let him know you deleted Tinder just like he asked? You relieve your frustrations by punching your pillow a few times. Later, you apologize to her, you didn’t mean to hurt her, it’s not her, it’s you. Fuck, 5 minutes of exile and you’re already loosing your mind.
“Raeeeeeeeeeeee!” You whine loudly. It’s roughly 2am now, but you don’t care. You’re too heartbroken to care. There’s a thump from her room, but nothing else, “Raeeeeeeeee!!!” You wail, wallowing in self-pity on your bed. You hear a very loud, very annoyed sigh from her room, followed by angry marching. Your door is abruptly thrown open, and in the dim, colorful light you see her scowl.
“What?” She grits.
“Can you please tell Corpse to unblock me from everything?”
“What did you do now?”
“I made fun of men on Tinder.”
She pauses, “...That doesn’t sound so bad.” She surmises, voice laced with suspicion, “What else?”
“...There was one really hot guy that I kinda sorta talked to after--”
“Y/n.”
“-But I totally deleted Tinder and honestly he was pretty boring, so, like, uhm, please?”
She sighs, the servery of which implies she is holding the weight of the world on her shoulders, and instantly you know that you won. She taps away at her phone, “You owe me one.” She states, and before you can reply, she exits your room and slams the door behind her.
Grinning, you text his phone again. The message goes through, oh gosh, you’re so relieved you feel like crying. This has been, officially, the worst five minutes of your life.
You Y DID U BLOCK ME LOSER!!! MAJOR LOSER ALERT!! I DELETED EVERYTHING IT WAS A JOKE r u still mad at me? y u always mad at me i never do anything:(
my husband You’re my baby, how do you think I’ll react when I see you publicly simping for some asshole on Tinder?
Oh no, he used the words, he delivered the killing blow. You’re finished. Your heart can’t take such a workout.
Not that you would ever admit it to him, though!
You hehe ur jellyyyy u always dis jealous hehe?
my husband Not jealous.
Yeah, you might not be the brightest tool in the shed, but even you know that’s a lie. You send him an array of kissy emojis that he doesn’t have the decency to reply to. Then, completely unprompted and dead serious, you send him a simple voice memo, saying: “You really have nothing to worry about, you know? You’re my favorite, Corpsie.”
He responds via text, reiterating that he’s not fucking jealous and that he just doesn’t like when you show such outward interest in anyone but it’s not like he cares or anything. It’s just really, like, weeeeird to see his baby simping for another man like that totally ruins the whole dynamic!!! It was only natural that he should block you on every social media platform, including his personal number (which, like, was completely necessary! Doesn’t matter that his viewers can’t see it, it’s gotta be super believable!), and inform his followers of that, because it’s all a joke, like, for the dynamic, that Youtube grind, you know? Ya dig? No personal feelings were involved at all. He totally wasn’t upset that you found someone else cute, no way!
my husband I’m not jealous. Lol.
You ik u repeated tht like 50 times u trynna convince me or??? lmao
my husband No comment. ...You don’t actually talk to anyone else like we’re talking, right?
You no one else calls me their baby if thts wat ur wondering at least not to my knowledge lol im all urs
my husband That makes me very happy to hear:)
Yeah, it makes you very happy, too.
hope you liked it!! xx

Ranked: Mother of the Year (Choices) Main Characters
I can’t sleep so that means I need to make another list that I’m not going to proofread before I post, right? Of course it does. But before we start, please remember this is my opinion on who I liked best. Not who impacted the story the most, not who was the best written fictional character of all time, yada yada. This is my personal opinion of the characters I liked best.
Spoilers WILL be featured below. You have been warned.
#13 -- Tallulah Copeland
Tallulah is a parent to a child at Bernhardt Academy, a friend of Vanessa Blackwood, and an active member of the PTA. Hugo is her partner.
This woman. I would flat forget this woman existed until she would show up again just to wreak havoc on MC’s day, usually at someone else’s urging. Every single time she spoke, I just wanted it to be over and she is just an awful, AWFUL person. She’s also the only awful person in this book who never pretends to be nice and/or never apologizes for her actions. Just an all around nasty person.
#12 -- Hugo
Hugo is a parent of a child at Bernhardt Academy and an active member of the PTA. Tallulah is his significant other.
If you’re actually reading these little blurbs, you have to be wondering “MagnoliaPip? How in the hell is Hugo ranked lower than two other unmentionables in this story?”
Thank you for asking, no one ever.
Put frankly, Hugo just annoyed the crap out of me. I know that’s supposed to be part of his character, but it went above and beyond the scope of acceptable annoyance. I grew to hate every second he was speaking. He never really contributed anything to the plot other than some irritating drivel. He wasn’t an antagonist, but he also wasn’t a pleasing good guy. He’s also the reason I’m considering not re-reading this book again right away like I want to.
#11 -- Guy Ledford
This man. This. Man. THIS MAN!
This part is going to include major spoilers, y’all, so if you haven’t read it and are still intending to, skip away now!! Again, major spoilers from here on out kids.
Guy Ledford is your main character’s ex-husband who has been absent for four years since the start of the book and wants to reconnect with his daughter. He is also a CEO of a snack food company/app, Nomme. He is the main antagonist of the book.
The reason I didn’t rank him lower is he genuinely adds something to the plot. He IS the plot. He’s the reason this book exists. However, he is such a scumbag he deserves nothing. He feels like a trope for quite a lot of the time, but at least he’s not physically abusive like a true trope could have been (at least, I never noticed him being physically abusive). Just, you know, a gaslighting, manipulative, arrogant, rude, selfish son of a-
I also love that they named him “Guy”. I’ve only ever met one man named this in my life, so it’s funny to me that they named this jerk “Guy” so it’s not only the most generic sounding name (did his parents also get a dog named “Dog” and a cat named “Kitty”?), but also one that a lot of men won’t likely have so they don’t have to get name checked in relation to him.
I like that you can get a good outcome (Guy ends up with joint custody with visitations every weekend and having to back pay) without spending diamonds in this game as long as you make the right choices, but for those who DID spend all of the diamonds, I would have liked to have seen Guy end up with worse. I would have liked to see, if you made most of the right choices and bought all of the diamond stuff, him ending up with every other weekend or maybe just visitation. I know he’s trying to be a good dad (but still an absolutely terrible human being), but every weekend seems like so much when your daughter is in school.
#10 -- Augustus Blackwood
August Blackwood is one of Vanessa Blackwood’s sons and is a student at Bernhardt Academy.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this one. But he hurt my daughter and that’s enough. I would have liked to have seen him fleshed out a little bit more beyond being basically just a schoolyard bully. His motivations for his actions are hinted on, but nothing is really ever done and he’s mostly just a prop for something to hurt your daughter.
#9 -- Vanessa Blackwood
Vanessa Blackwood is the president of the PTA, a single mom, and a lawyer and becomes an antagonist to your character.
I’m probably going to get hate for this, but I want to like Vanessa. Obviously, she’s hateful and offensive, in some very, very unredeemable ways, but there’s something about characters like that which makes me want to forgive them and teach them how to be better. How to rehabilitate their bitterness. I felt it with Olivia Nevrakis, I felt it with Victoria Fontaine, and I know certain people in the fandom felt it with Becca Davenport and Poppy Min-Sinclair.
**DISCLAIMER** Keep in mind, I’m not trying to excuse homophobia and racism here. They are both despicable things and should be accounted for. However, after having grown up in a homophobic and racist home and learning to leave that shit in the dust by the time I was eighteen and SLOWLY teaching my family to do the same over the course of the last 10 years, I believe people can change if you give them room and help to. Not everyone will, not many people will, but I believe in giving the chance. We need to force people to take responsibility and learn from their mistakes. Should the book have been approved as a series rather than a stand alone, I think this might have been a very real option within book 2.
#8 -- Ajax “AJ” Blackwood
Ajax Blackwood is one of Vanessa Blackwood’s sons and a student at Bernhardt Academy.
AJ is the quieter of the Blackwood boys, AJ is a shy kid who hates that his brother is mean just as much as your daughter does. He finally has enough within the book and stands up to him, which was more than a little satisfying and he does seem to have a genuinely good heart. I think it would be so cute for him, your daughter, and Luz to be their own adorable trio of friends.
#7 -- Levi Schuler
Levi Schuler is your neighbor who helps save the day for MC early on in the book and becomes a friend to both her and your daughter. He is also one of your love interests.
And if this list is going to invoke hate from the masses, it will be this entry that does it. I know how loved Levi is. And I love him too! I just find him, and his musician plot, to be a bit tiring. He’s a wonderfully supportive friend/love interest, just about one of the nicest people, and he’s great with your daughter. I swear, all of the love interests in this book would be god tier in any book. It’s truly unfair to the others that we got three amazing ones here along with a great cast of characters. However, since that did happen, Levi will sit here at #7. He can have a consolatory rugelach while I continue on.
#6 -- Faye Devore
Faye Devore is your ex-husband’s new girlfriend, a younger social media influencer.
I loved Faye. Right from the start, I loved Faye. I prayed they weren’t going to make this into one of those books where we were supposed to hate the “other woman” because those plots are old, outdated, and overused. Thankfully, MOTY lets us skirt right around it and we end up with a wonderful character like Faye, who is the human definition of having the best intentions.
She gets on well with your daughter, even pointing out to MC at one point that she thinks of her like a little sister, and goes above and beyond to make her happy. She is genuinely upset about going against MC’s wishes about your daughter appearing on social media and doesn’t appear to want to cause any harm or hard feelings with MC at any point during the book. In fact, she wants to be friends.
I would have loved for this and for it to be fleshed out more, again, if we had ever gotten a book 2. I’m also that jerk who would have totally romanced her in a replay and would have emptied my wallet to get a scene in that hypothetical book 2 where Guy finds out. Take that homophobe!
#5 -- Dr. Eiko Matsunaga
Dr. Eiko Matsunaga is a science teacher who teaches at the private school your daughter goes to and becomes friendly with MC because of your daughter. She is also one of your love interests.
If I would have had a teacher like Dr. Matsunaga when I was in school, maybe I would have cared about science at any point during my childhood. Eiko is so incredibly smart but has a heart of gold. She could be off teaching at colleges or writing published journals, but she’s teaching elementary science at a private school and honestly enjoying herself! She wants to see children succeed and will give any child who wants to do so, like your daughter, all of the help they need.
I want to romance her. I want to be her friend. I want it all because I’m selfish even when I don’t because I could never possibly be worthy of the supremacy that is Eiko. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
#4 -- Your Daughter / Zoey
Your daughter is 9 years old at the start of the book and desperately wants to be an astronaut. She is a science whiz and moves from public school to Bernhardt Academy at the beginning of the book to kickstart her education.
It makes me so sad that I will never actually have this child. “Zoey” is just so smart and funny and sweet and I love her so much. I spent so many diamonds on her. She’s a pixelated little bundle of amazing and I would die for her. That’s it.
#3 -- Alma Velasco
Alma Velasco is your neighbor, best friend, and (for part of the time) co-worker.
What did our character do to deserve such an amazing ride-or-die friend like Alma? She never disbelieves MC, is forever supportive as a shoulder to cry on and a supplier of good wine, and also helps MC out of more than one pinch. Seriously an amazing friend, and I wish we could have done something equally amazing for her to reciprocate.
#2 -- Thomas Mendez
Thomas Mendez is a lawyer and a single dad who becomes friends with MC very early on in the book. He is also one of your three love interests.
A big reason for why Thomas is at #2 is because of who #1 is but we’ll get there in a second.
There’s also something about Thomas that speaks to me as a person. It’s more than just being interested as a love interest or as a friend. There’s something about who he is. His awkwardness, his humor, his kindness and his generosity all make him someone I envy as much as I admire.
He takes on MC’s case pro bono when he doesn’t have to. He shrugs it off like it’s no big deal, but stepping back and looking at the it, by all accounts he was walking into a handily losing situation. He was also super busy at this time being a single parent himself and working on his class action lawsuit. That’s not even saying anything about him still grieving for Soledad.
However, the biggest reason I love Mr. Mendez is...
#1 -- Luz Mendez
Luz Mendez is a student at Bernhardt Academy who becomes best friends with your daughter early in the book. She is a soccer and art fan.
This little girl is the best thing I have ever read in my entire life. She made the entire book. Every character that came before her pales in comparison to her majesty. She is a goddamn queen and deserves everything.
Every scene with her is gold and I wish we had more. This little girl was completely willing to curb stomp someone with her cleats at the courthouse if something would have happened to your daughter. She is so aggressively herself and it is a joy to see. The relationship between her and her father is what really kept me going through the book’s more difficult spots. There is such true love and acceptance there, as well as the drive and desire to do better for the other than I just...There is really no way for me to properly explain the perfection that is Luz Mendez so I guess you’ll just have to read it yourself.
---
I’m not sure why it took me so long to start reading Mother of the Year (MOTY), but I’m so glad I did. In 3 days flat I binged the entire book, wasted so many accumulated diamonds, and had the time of my life. The cast of characters in MOTY is perfect and I wanted to rank them according to my opinion on which ones were the best. I ranked all of the characters I found to be profound enough to matter to the storyline or that MC or “Daughter” had enough interactions with to matter. As a result, there are several characters who didn’t make this list.
Sound off below if you wish.

Y’all need to pledge to the CHORUS fig campaign and I’m gonna tell you why.
CHORUS is a potential musical RPG by Summerfall Studios set to release in 2021. It follows Grace, a singer granted the powers of the muse Calliope...upon the muse’s death. The other gods accuse Grace of murdering Calliope for her power, which Grace doesn't even want or think herself worthy of, and she has to discover the truth before her sentence can be carried out.
That's what it is, here's why you should support it.
Do you like Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic, or Baldur’s Gate? These guys made those games! And the project being spearheaded by veteran developers means it’s that much more likely to be completed and shipped, if it gets the funding.
Do you like Laura Bailey? She’s voicing Grace! And singing a lot!
Do you like Troy Baker? He’s voice directing!
Do you like branching dialogue paths? It’s got those!
Do you like Greek mythology? It’s about Greek mythology!
Do you like musicals? It’s a musical!
Also the studio is dedicated to not putting their team through “crunch”, and chose Fig over Kickstarter because of Kickstarter’s ongoing refusal to recognize a union for their employees.
There are updates in the form of lore dumps on the campaign page, expanding and defining the world they’re looking to build. I’m really really excited about it and I really want it to succeed. As of this writing it’s got just under a quarter of the funding it needs, and there’s 23 days left on the campaign. Please check it out, if it interests you please pledge to it, it’s a new idea from a small studio and it deserves a chance.

Prologue
(Banner made by the loveliest @harry-nofookingway-styles)
Harry X OFC (AU)
In which Melody is reacquainted with an old classmate named Harry, and must keep afloat in the violent, criminal lifestyle of an underground boxer.
Author’s Note: Hello, everyone! This is just a little something. Harry doesn’t even appear in the prologue efnskjfbas. We’ll see if I can come up with a schedule for posting. I’ll probably go back and forth between this and Beneath the Tide. I’ve cast AnnaSophia Robb as Melody (the main character)! I hope y’all are ready for this fic because even I’m not. Anyways, I hope you enjoy! As per usual, any and all feedback is sincerely appreciated. Xx
The human mind is a jumble of abstractions. Melody Rhoden supposed that’s why she had a love-hate relationship with her poetry class. Her professor had always said the same thing: “Cut abstractions from your writing.” As though they could make a poem any less meaningful. As though it was impossible for them to evoke a deep feeling all on their own.
Almost every art form contains its own uniquely integrated abstractions. The painting Melody was staring at, for example, was composed entirely of them. Abstract art is beautiful in its own right, completely moldable to the viewer’s interpretation. She thought writing was justified in sporting that same beauty. Let readers feel the abstractions in their own unique knowledge and experiences. Not everything needs to be told.
“Lovely.”
The voice came from her right shoulder. She found a man there. Light, scarce stubble, dark, intruding brown eyes. He glanced briefly at the painting and then turned back to her.
“Yeah, it is.”
He chuckled light-heartedly and shook his head.
“Oh, no. I was talking about you.”
Melody contributed a breathy half-laugh and looked back at the painting. Cheesy pick-up lines had never been successful with her. And regardless, she was there for a reason.
“Cute. But I’m here for an assignment, so if you’ll excuse me.”
He caught her elbow as she turned away. The touch was gentle and brief. His arm dropped back to his side where it came from, almost immediately.
“Assignment? What for?”
She assessed him—his pressed pants, wrinkled dress shirt, one cuff unbuttoned. It was a bit endearing, the dorky, mismatched way of his apparel. His hair was lightly windblown, wavy and fluffed at the ends. He pushed a troublesome lock from his temple and chuckled again.
“I’m Cooper, by the way.”
“Melody,” she informed him in a quick, impulsive decision. He smiled at her, perfect top teeth, crooked bottom row.
“Pretty.”
“Thanks.” She turned again to move to the next piece of art. Cooper followed behind and stopped next to her, elbow just barely brushing her bicep. “I have to write a poem.”
“That’s your assignment?”
“Yes. It has to be inspired by a piece of art. It’s called an ekphrasis.”
“So, you’re a poet?”
The picture in front of them was unnerving. It looked to be from a war, the colors faded into black and white. A girl stood in the foreground, coated in grime, clothing torn. She was small, couldn’t even be eight-years-old. She seemed to be running toward the camera, arms outstretched. Melody looked away and turned her attention to Cooper.
“Not really. I’d rather write stories, but the poetry class is required. It doesn’t matter, anyways. Nothing I’ve written has seen daylight.”
“Well, it could someday.” He grinned at her again. His fingers splayed out against his thighs and then he rubbed his hands over his pants, like he was wiping the sweat from them. “Do you, maybe, wanna go out sometime?”
His proposal was cute, and he seemed charming in his own way. Melody couldn’t help the small smile that crept onto her face. Her eyes fell to the floor. She hadn’t been on a date in nearly a year. School took up almost all of her time. When she wasn’t at class, she was studying or writing—or attempting to write, anyway. Her mind had felt entirely blank for months now.
Maybe this was what she needed. She’d been so stuck in her routines that she hadn’t had any new experiences. Maybe a date could bring some inspiration. Maybe it would even kickstart her love life.
“Yes.”
Cooper smiled even wider and pulled his phone from the pocket of his pants. His fingers fumbled with the lock button and then the device vibrated twice as his clammy thumb attempted and failed to input his print. He sighed frustratedly and manually punched in the passcode before passing it to Melody, opened up to his contacts. She contemplated giving him the wrong number, just slipping up and changing a “2” to a “3”, but that would defeat the entire purpose of her saying yes. She typed her information in, placing an emoji of a painting next to her name, and handed Cooper his phone.
“Thanks,” he said with a softer smile now, slipping the phone back into his pocket and shoving his hand into the other one.
“Can we do it tomorrow?” Melody asked. “I have midterms coming up.”
“Oh, yeah, definitely,” he spluttered, nodding enthusiastically. She was reassured, whether by his excitement or his goofy, awkward vibe, she wasn’t sure.
He kept standing there, smiling, watching her. She found it in her to laugh softly before raising an eyebrow.
“Cooper?”
“Oh, right.” He chuckled nervously, rubbing at the back of his neck. “Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He walked away then, glancing back at her once. She smiled at him. The high-school-type romance was refreshing, a large contrast to what frat guys considered to do the trick.
With Cooper gone, Melody turned back to the task at hand, moving on to the next photograph. She only looked at the landscape briefly before pulling out her phone to snap a quick picture. She took pictures of the next four artworks, her pre-midterm exhaustion settling on her shoulders all at once. She yawned as she turned toward the exit of the gallery. Maybe it was lucky that she came tonight instead of tomorrow. Maybe she would have the time to confidently complete her assignment, and maybe she would actually succeed in obtaining some sort of inspiration from tomorrow’s date. Maybe the writer’s block that had been eating away at her would cease. But then, maybe nothing would come of any of it.
