wicked round 3 observations
cried during No One Mourns The Wicked again
despite that scene being in Munchkinland, the crowd has Gilikinese and Winkie citizens mixed in (based on clothing styles)
no sign of Quadlings anywhere
dorm postings had Ama Clutch in suite 5? Ama Clutch????? Book Galinda's nanny?????????
if Ama Clutch is on the list then so are Tibbett and Crope. I need HQ screenshots. my boys are in there and I have to get them out
fiyero's Horse has a name that sounds like Fernspur but could be something else. Fernspur sounds about right for a Horse though
the flower field scene from Glinda's dead wife flashback happens between Popular and Dillamond getting arrested. please shove this into act 2 somewhere so I can have it. I need it. it is crucial that we have the flower field scene. why would you put it in the dead wife flashback and then keep it from me forever? give me that scene
audience laughed repeatedly at Dillamond mispronouncing Galinda's name. in one year they will know the weight of their sins
audience clapped at the TBC screen
woman next to me mentioned at the start that she saw this last week on her birthday, and at the end, said something about how she can't wait for her next birthday. on my way out I smiled and told her "heads up, act 2 is really depressing!"
watching a 2.5 hour movie 3 times in a week is kind of exhausting, especially when those bastards keep using the For Good motif to try and make me cry (it works)
#wicked#and then I open up discord after getting him to see a right-wing grifter may have gotten head from a liberal streamer. what a world

First of all YESSSSS, WE ARE GOING TO THE AQUARIUM AND PETTING STINGRAYS.
Second of all, here are those genuine Dad!Corrupted Scarecroe Examples:
Scarecrow loving to defy Glinds every now and then (It's good for her, he tells little Una. Keeps her on her toes.) so sometimes when Una misbehaves, Scarecrow'll sneak her out of her room to hang out with him, or slip her hot chocolate and lollies, or flash her a reassuring smile and wink; assuring her that it's all okay.
Scarecrow telling Una bedtime stories of him and his old friends like he did for Ozma sometimes (When he has nothing better to do, or Glinda forced him). Sure, the way he tells them now is a little different, he calls Tin a twitterpatted twit and the the Lion an animal- and whenever Una asks about the great Dorothy he sighs at her-- but his hand is always comfortingly on her tummy or her side, rocking her to sleep with a gentle precision.
Scarecrow telling Una jokes!! They're awful (as in, gross and kinda mean), but she laughs because they make her dad laugh 🧡
Scarecrow always remembering to feed Una. Always. Glinda might go into States where all she can think about are her devious plans and cunning strategies and what next-- bit the Scarecrow will always take Una to the kitchen and spread some jam on a piece of bread for her for dinner. It's not a lot and it's not nutritious but it's more then her adoptive mother remembered to give her. And he stays with her, muttering about Glinda (sometimes complaining to Una about Glinda), while she eats, so he can send her straight to bed after (he knows he may not need it, but she does!).
I wish I could come up with more but I have to get ready for work! ^^ Hope you're having a good day ^^ See ya! 🐊🐙🦞🐳
MAAAAAANNNNNNN OMG OMG YOU REALLY ARE TRYING TO KILL ME WITH DAD SCARECROW!!! AND IT HURTS MY HEART THAT THIS IS CORRUPTED SCARE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Alright, I've had all day to brew on this XD be prepared for plenty of incohesive thoughts. For anyone else reading, be warned as this mentions a lot of gore. If you know anything about the Dorothy must Die universe, you know that it gets pretty dark. With that warning out of the way-
First off, this did get me thinking more on Una's timeline. Not just this AU, but in general. It's not perfect since I'm not quite sure how time in DmD!Oz works, nor am I too far in the books yet (I'm still in the part where Amy acquires her Glamora styled room. I need to pick these books uo again 😅). But lemme go over that real quick.
Around the time the Witch of the West took over, Una's father, a winkie named Hubert (yes I'm making that canon XD) decided it was worth the risk and set off on his own, wanting to live freely from the Witch. The other winkies were too scared to follow him, and he was gravely injured by the time he made it outside the borders. But he was alive.
A bit before Dorothy came to Oz in the first place, Hubert met Twyla, an Ozian woman who would become his wife and mother to his child. She had possessed a tiny bit of magic, and was a great painter. Being a traveling merchant, she let Hubert tag along on her way to the Emerald City, and they shortly fell in love.
They decide to build a cottage in the woods together, choosing to live away from society to avoid any trouble with the Wicked Witches. Even after the news finally reached to them about how Dorothy slayed them (which again, they live away from people. It took a while 😅), they liked the life they built and chose to stay.
At some point during the war between King Scarecrow and Jinjur, which Twyla and Hubert were fortunately blissfully unaware of because they lived so deep in the woods, they have little Una. They fill the girls head with all the stories they have heard about the Witchslayer Dorothy and her companions, as well as The Good Witch Glinda. This, along with her mothers' limited magical skills, inspires Una to learn the ways of magic one day.
When Una was just 7 years old, however, Glinda had discovered the family's secret home purely by accident. For reasons unknown (did she see a threat in the family? Was it for control? Simple entertainment?), Glinda influenced Dorothy Gale to send the now corrupted Tin Woodman on a crusade to kill anyone he found in that forest. (Hubert had been the first to die, a blade through the chest. Then Twyla, after running as far as she could with Una in her arms and her own injuries, had her head ripped off right in front of young Una. Una just barely made it out alive, now covered in her mother's blood and the terrifying metal monsters eyes flashing in her mind).
Now, in this is when her timeline diverges in the AU. In the OG timeline, Una wandered the forest, tired and starving, for a week before she came across Mombi. As you know, Mombi took her in with The Order of the Wicked, and adopted her helped raise her to become the witch she is now. But in this AU, Glinda decided to follow Tin, to make sure the family was killed. When Una survived, she saw potential in the child, and 'saved' her, before taking the girl under her wing. By the time Una turns 20-24, in either timeline, I imagine that's when Amy arrives in Oz herself.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let's got onto the headcannons for this AU! I got a lot so hang tight 😅 and since I haven't read the books too far, I have no idea how accurate these are.
Una and Glinda
In the OG timeline, Una's mind does block out a little of what happened because the trauma was so severe. Enough where she doesn't realize that the Tin Woodman was the one behind her parents' deaths. But in this AU, Glinda encouraged her to forget. Distracting the girl, and maybe using magic to subtly erase Una's memory. Her subconscious fought it, but now Una can't recall what really happened that night now. She has nightmares of it, and knows that her blood parents were taken from her, but Glinda made her believe the 'great danger' they're fighting in Oz killed them.
In the OG timeline, Una is pretty strong, both physically and magically. She's had excellent training in the order. But here, Glinda keeps her as weak as possible while still training her. Una has very little physical strength, and although she has the potential to be very powerful. Glinda is careful with what she teaches her. But Una, with the help of Scarecrow, is starting to suspect her mother figure.
As you can see, Glinda has a lot of influence in Una's life. She controls what she sees and learns, and makes sure that she doesn't see what's really going on- not until she knows she has Una's undying loyalty. As such, Una is rather naive, and her spirit has been damaged with Glinda's manipulative ways; Glinda sweetly putting her down at the right moment, keeping her in the dark and making sure she believes she needs her. (But damaged does not mean destroyed). Yeah, as you can see, Una and Glinda are like Rapunzel and Gothel.
Of course, Glinda fills her head with lies about her aunt Glamora, Mombie, Granny Gurt, and all the other witches. Una had thought Glamora killed her parents, but of course, she's proven wrong.
Not important, but please imagine with me; Glinda singing the Mother Knows Best reprose to Una if/when she runs away (especially if she runs away with a possible crush I'm thinking up for her 👀). Also! In the Carrie Musical How Those Boys would Dance, but Glinda trying to place doubt in Una's mind about someone she loves. Also, this scene in Steven Universe when White Diamond and Steven finally meet. I'd have to dig into a lot of why Whites words are important, but imagine if Una was 'brought' back home from the order, or she runs away, and Glinda with her fake warmth treats this like it was all just a silly game played by a girl having a temper tantrum, "Did you get everything out of your system, dear?"
Una and Scarecrow
Scarecrow being a dad for Una- even if it's not the most genuine on his part- is getting to my heart so much 🥺🥺🥺 I can't possibly raise your headcannons, but here's what I have;
Una bonded with Scare, especially when he would treat her after Glinda punished her and he would complain to her about her during their late night 'dinners' (even if Una didn't want to talk that way about her, she did agree with some things he said. Especially as she grew older. It was what inspired her to be suspicious of her mother figure and teacher in the first place). As such, he's her first choice of person to go to when she's scared or hurt, especially if by Glinda, or if she just wants a hug (I mean, he is like a pillow XD).
Because of how close she and Scare have gotten, Glinda has pretty much appointed him as her Una Spy. He reports everything he can back to her (or at least he's supposed to)
Even though Glinda is her teacher, she has gone to Scare to help her with her homework or for extra lessons. After all, if there's anybody in Oz who can teach her anything, it has to be the smartest guy in the world, huh? If Scare isn't busy with his experiments, he'll happily take the opportunity to prove how smart he is- I mean, teach the silly little girl.
When Una joins the order (when she runs away, or Mombi kidnaps her for a plan, and Una proves her worth to join the order), she was in denial about Scare the most. That's her father! How could he be such a monster?? How could he... Know what Glinda had done to her parents and not do anything?? This can't be him, can it??
Also, Una would hug Scare a lot. Everytine she sees him. It's a comforting habit she gained when she was younger, and he took care of her. Even when he's a grum about it, Una will still give her straw dad a hug ^^ it does hurt a little if he pushes her away or act like this is such an inconvenience, but it's what she knows so she doesn't let it stop her all the time.
Now, if Una got to see Scarecrow after his brain is removed and the sweet, affectionate straw man is back, it'd take her a moment to process it all. Her father is... This now? After how she grew up knowing him as a mean, kind of gross and antisocial man? How he was cold even towards her sometimes? After finding out what he did?? And... He's actually loving now? He wants her hugs?? It'd take her a moment to get used to this Scarecrow (I want Dumb!Scarecrow to learn or remember how he thought of Una and how he only showed her affection to manipulate her (mostly), and do his very best to make it up to his baby 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)
I can see this AU actually having a better chance at the Rehabilitation AU! I mean, Una was raised with a softer heart for one. But she sees these people as her family. Even if they were so much worse than she expected, she doesn't want to give up on them.
Also not important, but when little Una got used to Scarecrows presence in her life, she showed him a lock of her hair and pointed at the hay sticking out from the seams of his body and basically said they matched 🥺🥺🥺🥺 I know he's a heartless bastard but PLEASE tell me that got to him?? Just a tiny bit????
Una and Lion
She didn't see Lion often, and was scared of his size. Though since he's the friendliest even with his corruption, I don't think it took too long for him and Una to develop an uncle and neice sort of bond. Glinda made sure he didn't eat her, of course. And didn't slip out any information that would be too troubling for the little girl.
Una has many memories of climbing onto Lion, giggling with him and listening to his great tales of the days of old (when he and his friends were still heros). She was always in awe of his great feats of bravery, and he quickly became her favorite storyteller. Yes, even over her father (Lion doesn't insult anybody while telling stories *side eyes Scarecrow*)
Lion sees her as just a little cub 🥺 yes, even now as she's grown up. She's so tiny and bright! Una actually reminds him a little of Dorothy, before everything... He promised her that someday he'd take her to see his great kingdom in the jungle, and that he wouldn't let the monster hurt her (I'm not sure if Lion would know who killed her parents, but either way, he cares about Una to protect her like Dorothy). He doesn't see her often, but when they are both at the palace, it's like old days again when she would crawl all over him. It's a nice break from her conniving family for Una.
I'm not sure if Glinda would let her learn it, but if Una could transform into other animals, she's definitely showing it off to Lion... I'm not sure if that'd be the safest thing to do around the hungry king of beasts, though 😅
Una and Tin
I think it may have taken Una a long time to see Tin. Glinda had to make sure she wouldn't recognize Tin and revert all her progress. It took around a year at least for Glinda to fully trust them meeting.
Little Una was intimidated by Tin Woodmans appearance, not believing at first that that was the same gentle hero her parents told her about. But after seeing Lion, Una approached him and reached for one of his finger blades to hold. Of course, he pulled away, a bit shocked that Glinda had a daughter. But he knew he had to treat her with respect, so he was very polite with the child.
I think that since Tin is too busy being Dorothy's authority and thinking about her, he and Una didn't see each other often. Even less than Lion, maybe? Along with Glinda telling her all about how Tin keeps the peace, Una still sees him as a hero rather than a family member like she does the others. As such, she's very cordial but polite, rather than seeking him out for comfort or loosening up around him.
Of course, they run into each other sometimes when Glinda takes her to the Emerald Palace. The more he sees her, as she gets older, maybe Tin grows more curious about her and asks Scarecrow about her? The two seem to be close, and clearly, Glinda must have big plans for the witch. Perhaps she is meant to help to protect Dorothy??
Una and Dorothy and Ozma/Pete
Una is not too familiar with Dorothy. But she had been excited to meet her. Why wouldn't she want to see the hero and queen of Oz? I'm not sure how much control Glinda has over Dorothy, really, but either way, I don't think Una would like her too much. Dorothy doesn't exactly hide her true colors. Maybe Una accidentally peeved her, and she started screeching at her (maybe Una giggled, and Dorothy took that as her laughing at her). Glinda stepped in however, and took Una aside and told her she needed to be careful around their very stressed ruler. Ever since then, Una has been... Very very conflicted about the witchslayer.
She and Ozma totally gain a sibing bond in this AU! Una was confused about the great fairy being so childish and zoned out, especially hearing that she apparently tried to hurt Dorothy. But she warmed up to the fairy as they got to live and play together. She and Ozma would huddle together when Scarecrow told stories, and they'd have many sleepovers together ^^ as Una grew older, she took it upon herself to care for her new sister, and is hoping to cure her of her memory loss and her supposed corrupted heart.
I think as she gets older and Glinda molds her into the perfect ally more, Una is taken to the palace more. She still retains her good heart though and, despite the servants being afraid of her, she wants to talk to them. Pete was the only one who was willing to approach her, and they would up becoming friends. Una isn't sure why, but something about the boy is familiar. Like she knows him already, somehow. It's strange, though, how he's always disappearing...
Also, I'm considering in this AU, Una might develop a crush on a boy in the palace named Benjamin? I'm not sure, but she wouldn't be so scared of faliing in love here (she doesn't see any risk of losing her lover in the war, unlike her OG self), and I really want to explore her falling in love and how her little family would react to it.
Also, not important, but I found a picrew and made Una! The one on the left is her in the Glinda's Apprentice AU, and the one on the right is Una in the OG timeline (I tried to rough her up as much as possible. Also, this picrew didn't have a silver color for eyes, so they're blue here XD but I promise her eyes are canonically silver. Also, ignore the ears. She has human like ears like her mother, I just liked the art style of this Picrew)
That's all I got for now. I really need to sleep XD thank you so much for sending this in!! I hope you like this ^^

The Nome King: The Magic of Oz
The Nome King makes one last appearance in the « original fourteen », the fourteen Oz books L. Frank Baum wrote (before his publishers continued the “canon” by forming what is known today as the Famous Forty).
The Nome King’s last appearance is in “The Magic of Oz”, the thirteenth book of Oz, actually published one month after Baum’s death (the final of his Oz books, “Glinda of Oz”, will be published the next year). Since it was released in 1919 the imprint of World War I was still quite present – the book in fact was dedicated to “the children of our soldiers, the Americans and their allies”.
The novel opens up with the Aru family. The Arus are part of the “Hyups”, one of the minor ethnies of Oz. At the eastern edge of the Munchkin Country is Mount Munch, a big, tall hill touching the Deadly Sandy Desert (noted to exhale poisonous fumes that can exhaust even the birds flying above it). The Munchkins never went up Mount Munch, because the sides are too steep to climb, and so they lived in perfect ignorance of the Hyups, who live at the top of Mount Munch (the top being saucer-shaped, broad and deep). The Munchkins might ignore everything of the Hyups, but the Hyups are not ignorant of the world, despite never leaving their mountain. Indeed, Glinda is aware of their existence, and when Ozma of Oz published a decree according to which no one was allowed practice magic in her dominions (except Glinda and the Wizard of Oz – no mention of the Witch of the North, who by this point had been entirely forgotten by Baum), Glinda sent an eagle to inform the Hyups of the decree. Among them lived Bini Aru, a Sorcerer. He had never seen Ozma of his life, but he knew that she was the ruler of Oz, so he obeyed the law: he destroyed most of his magic tools and powders, stopped practicing magic… but there was one thing he could not destroy. A new way to practice transformation, a thing unknown to any other Sorcerer that Bini discovered on his own (the narration note that it is ignored by the Wizard of Oz, Glinda, Dr. Pipt and old Mombi). [Note that in earlier books, Baum had established that transformation belonged to the wicked and evil forms of magic – it was performed by Mombi, the Nome King, Mrs. Yoop, but Glinda was for example against it and refused to do any transformation, even for the sake of Oz. Though later Baum abandoned this rule by having the Wizard of Oz and the Good Witch of the North perform transformations.] This method is easy: a simple word. “Pyrzqxgl”. You just need to know the exact way to pronounce it. Say out loud who you want to transform into what (the spell only works on people like humans or animals) and then pronounce the word, and it will be done. This is basically a magical revolution because usually transformation requires big rituals, long incantations or other powders and herbs. So Bini Aru wrote the word and how to pronounce it underneath one of the floor boards of his bedroom.
Now, Bini Aru had a wife, Mopsi Aru, a famous huckleberry-pie maker, and a son, Kiki Aru. Now Kiki Aru is a boy (yes, despite the name) and a frustrated one. He wants to go down Mount Munch to explore the world, but since there is no way to do so, Kiki grew up frustrated, which made him “cross and disagreeable”, which resulted in him refusing to participate or help in the Hyup community, which then resulted in people not paying attention to him, which only made Kiki more unhappy. A vicious circle, you could say. One day, the Hyups held their traditional annual festival (where the adult men play music and tell fairy tales, the adult women cook feasts, and the youth dance and sing – yes I am just thinking now about the implications of an isolated community grouped together for so long, and yes, this is messed up. Let’s continue). Kiki Aru, being the antisocial kid he is, refuses to participate in the festivities and stay at home while his parents go (and even in the years before he just stood outside watching everything without dancing or singing). Exploring his father’s bedroom he discovers the loose floor board and the magic word. Too happy to finally find a way to escape Mount Munch, he learns the word by heart and turns into a hawk. But he immediately realizes that he cannot explore Oz, because either Glinda or the Wizard of Oz would discover he illegally used magic and would punish him for it (yeah, many readers have pointed out how Ozma’s ban on magic book after book turned Oz into a kind of soft and “kind” dictatorship where precious resources like magic are kept by the rulers and their close friends).
So Kiki Aru simply goes out to explore the world outside of Oz.
Now… we get a quick tour of the different realms outside of Oz. Most of them are actually lands and kingdoms that Baum created for other, non-Oz books – but it has been years now since Baum has turned all of his books into a shared universe through crossovers (it was his attempt to attract readers to his less-successful side works. It failed.) This tour also allows for yet another retcon of the geography of the Ozian continent (to which Baum never gave any official name, though later authors tend to use the name Nonestica). Across the foul and poisonous Deadly Sandy Desert is Hiland and beyond it Loland (ruled by John Dough, the Gingerbread Man). Remember, in previous works it was the land of Ev that was located East of Oz. Now it’s not. North of Loland you have Merryland, ruled by a wax doll, and following the curve of the desert you find the Kingdom of Noland (located North of Oz). There Kiki Aru turns back into a boy and rests at the house of a couple, who welcome him, give him dinner, a bed and breakfast. Then he turns into a white dove (noticing that he goes much faster and sees more as a bird): he checks the capital of Noland, then flies west to the Kingdom of Ix, and still going west he finally enters the land of Ev (so… Ev is either on the North-West either West of Oz now). Of course, all the lands visited prior were cameos of non-Ozian Baum works. Anyway. There, Kiki Aru has a harsh discovery: the inns of Ev only give bed and food to people with money. And Kiki has no money, since in Oz money is not used (yeah that’s another big topic that deserves its own presentation). Kiki Aru so simply decides to steal money – taking the shape of a magpie, he steals gold from an old man. He is shamed by a talking sparrow, who tells him that magic is “wicked and unlawful” and that stealing is a “greater crime” – to which Kiki answers that he doesn’t care, that he didn’t know he was being wicked, and that if he was he is glad to be, because he hates good people. In fact, he concludes he always wanted to be wicked but never knew how. (Yeah, this boy visibly has more problems than we thought).
Hearing this, someone laughs and tells him “That’s the spirit! Shake my hand!”. You can guess who it is. An old man with a fat body and a big round face… Yep it is Ruggedo. His description is again slightly changed by Baum: now his limbs are said to be “thin”, his long flowing white beard has been replaced by “bushy white whiskers”, he wears dull-gray and tight-fitting clothes with pockets stuffed to the max, and finally it is mentioned his white hair forms a point at the top of his head, all things that Baum actually added to match with the illustrations of the book, not so much with his original depiction of the Nome King (he even adds the fact that Ruggedo is “crooked” and thus cannot stand straight, another element found nowhere else). Now, if you remember, last time we saw him Ruggedo had been stripped of his role as the Nome King by the Great Jinjin and Quox the dragon, but had been pardoned by the new Nome King Kaliko and was welcome back in the Nome realm if he behaved good – in fact, Ruggedo was now an humble and sorry man(creature?), it was even implied that his power and wealth where what made him cruel and greedy, and that once deprived of it all he realized how useless it was to be a bad person. Here? FORGET EVERYTHING IT NEVER HAPPENED! Or rather, it happened, but half. You see, we could thing that Ruggedo was kicked out by Kaliko because he reverted to his bad habits, but no, Ruggedo explains that he was actually forced to abdicate (which he affirms is a synonym for “being kicked out”) by the people of Oz, who harassed him for no good reasons, since he was a “good King (at least for myself”). He even explains that the rule of the “I could take as many things as my pockets could hold” was something the Ozians imposed upon him – no mention of how it was actually said by a dragon, or a punishment of the Great Jinjin, one of the most powerful Fairies in existence. The Nome King becomes good pal with Kiki, explaining to him the values of gold, jewels and the like. He also tells him that in all of his wandering he brooded and thought long and hard about the vengeance he wanted to inflict upon the Ozians, coming up with a plan to become King of Oz. But before he reveals it to Kiki, he proposes him a bargain: he will offer the boy all the jewels, gems and precious metals he has in his numerous big pockets, in exchange for the secret of his transformations. Kiki is not stupid, so he refuses, not wanting to tell the secret word for anything in the world. The former Nome King threatens to denounce the theft of the gold to the inn-keeper Kiki paid the night prior; and Kiki simply answers that he will turn into a lion, tear the inn-keeper to pieces before he can say anything to anyone, and then fly away where no one will find him. [Yep, this boy has SERIOUS problems]. The Nome King is impressed, and offers to share his conquest with Kiki, making him the ruler of Oz while the Nome will be his Prime Minister, in exchange for the secret, but again a refusal. Ruggedo succumbs to one of his famous “anger-crisis” where he chokes and jumps up and down and loses all control, but Kiki just laughs at the sight. Ruggedo attempts a new bargain: he abandons (or at least fakes abandoning) his project to rule over Oz, saying he only wants revenge. He will conquer Oz and let Kiki rule it as its king, and in exchange Kiki will give Ruggedo the magic of Glinda and the Wizard, enough magic to allow Ruggedo to regain his Nome Kingdom. Kiki thinks it over, not accepting but not refusing either. Ultimately, Ruggedo slowly but surely manages to get Kiki on board with his plan (because Kiki is searching for the wealthiest and most beautiful of the lands existing, and everywhere he goes people say Oz is the most marvelous and beautiful countries of the continent).
Here is what Ruggedo’s plan is. It is true that if they went in Oz, they could easily be noticed by Ozma with her Magic Picture – but the Magic Picture only shows Ozma what she wants to see, and if she never knew they crossed her borders, she won’t search for them. Then there is the matter of Glinda’s Book of Records, which notes down everything people do in Oz the minute they do it. And here is the secret: people. The Book does not record the activities of beasts or animals. Ruggedo wants Kiki to turn them both into animals to avoid Glinda’s detection. Then, they will go to one of the thick and wild forests of Oz: there live savage and cruel animals, who never bothered the people of Oz, but merely according to Ruggedo because they had no leader urging them to – and this leader will be him. He will rally all the savage and wild animals of Oz under one rebellious army, and turn them into the Emerald City, promising the animals to turn them into humans as a reward, and to punish the humans by turning them into animals. Thus, Ruggedo and Kiki would take power in Oz. Kiki and Ruggedo agree to work together on the plan – though Ruggedo is keeping his eye on Kiki to find his transformation secret, planning to turn him into wood to burn the minute he finds it, while Kiki knows Ruggedo is not trustworthy and plans to turn him into a marble statue the minute they conquered Oz.
[At one point, Ruggedo mentions that all of his magic tools to perform transformations were taken away by the Ozians, and that he could not fight them because they had eggs. He mentions that if a Nome touches an egg, he is ruined for life. Should we remind him that he was hit by two eggs in the face in Ozma of Oz? At the same time, it was Roquat, not Ruggedo, though the two are the same…]
The two villains settle for the Forest of Gugu. Located at the “central western” part of the Gillikin Country, it is the biggest forest of Oz, adjoined in the east by rugged mountains “covered in underbrush and small twisted trees”. It is home to most of the wild beasts of Oz, and a place where no human lives and where they rarely visit – the bigger beasts live in the forest per se, the smallest in the underbrush of the mountains. Animals, like people, cannot die in Oz (yeah, that’s the late rule), but being animals they are still wild and aggressive and they would tear each other apart – if not for the laws. Indeed, the animals, despite wild, still have a kind of “civilization”. They have laws, that forbid all fighting between animals (though they still do so from time to time, resulting in beasts with missing eyes, ears or limbs). The laws are made by the forest’s government: its king, the yellow leopard named Gugu (he baptized the forest after him), and his three counselors, Bru the Bear, Loo the Unicorn and Rango the Gray Ape (all are noted to be fierce and ferocious beasts, reaching their high ranks because they are more intelligent and feared than the other beasts).
[Just on the note of the rule, Baum has an annoying habit to precise that no one can be killed or die in Oz, since the fairyland is free of death and sickness. But he still says that people and beasts can be “destroyed”, though it is very hard to do so. The exact difference is quite unknown, but basically I guess he implies you can be turned into sentient dust or goo if you are not careful. However, this book introduces a neat twist to the rule: no Ozian is sure if this magical protection extends to visitors from non-fairy lands, such as Dorothy or Button-Bright. Hence why the Ozians will do everything they can to protect them, because they can, maybe, die.]
To appear even more ferocious and powerful than the locals, Ruggedo and Kiki decide to turn into a mix of several animals: heads of lions, bodies of monkeys, wings of eagles, tails of wild donkeys with golden knobs at the end. They call this species Li-Mon-Eags. They arrive when the “four lords of the forest” ended a meeting about a huge fight that happened in the morning between Chipo the Wild Boar, Arx the Giraffe and Tirrip the great Kangaroo. Ruggedo claims that they came to warn the forest that the people of Oz plan to enslave the animals and turn them into beasts of burden. Gugu answers that for ages the people of Oz have let them alone, nor friends nor enemies, and they know that if they enslaved them they couldn’t make beasts of burden out of them – Gugu concludes the weird newcomers are telling lies. His Unicorn counsellor however believes them – which allows Ruggedo to propose the “turn them into animals” deal. That is received very coldly, because the beasts don’t care much about the “nice things” people have. However, asked to prove their power, Kiki turns the Unicorn into a “fat, chubby little man dressed in the purple Gillikin costume”, and finds it much funnier than being a unicorn. The other beasts are not convinced and decide to do a great gathering of all the beasts of the forest to put it under the decision of a vote.
And boy is there a lot of beasts in this forest… wolves, foxes, hyenas, lynxes, monkeys, pumas, jaguars, tigers, lions, bears, bisons, wild donkeys, zebras, unicorns, rhinoceri, hippopotami, elephants, walruses… Ruggedo presents them the “threat” and his “plan”. Some beasts answer yes we’ll do it, other no we don’t, some stay silent… the opinion is split. A loud debate begins… until suddenly Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz appear, riding the Cowardly Lion and Hungry Tiger. This disturbed deeply Kiki, who is afraid of the Wizard and tired of Ruggedo treating him as a magic slave, so he begins to randomly use the word – turning the Wizard into a fox and stealing his magic black bag ; turning Dorothy into a lamb, the Lion is turned into a little boy in Munchkin costume. Ruggedo, understanding that Kiki’s panic is ruining everything, tries to stop him but is turned into a goose. The Hungry Tiger, noticing it, tries to stop Kiki but is turned into a rabbit. And then Kiki, who is attacked by the animals of Gugu, turns the king leopard into a fat Gillikin woman, which results in the animal fleeing into one huge stampede, not wanting to be transformed. Kiki, having stolen the “Black Bag” where the Wizard keeps his tools of enchantment, tries to use it – but he has to admit that, being no sorcerer or magician, he actually doesn’t know how to use or make the tools inside work, so he just abandons it on a branch and flies away.
Ruggedo, now a goose, helps the other searching for the missing bag of magic (whose tools can break the transformation enchantment easily – sigh, do you remember back in the second book when transforming back someone needed grand and long rituals? Those were the good times), pretending to be a random animal that was transformed, but then tries to find Kiki Aru and leaves them – that’s when they discover the Goose was another one of the “magician beasts”. Ruggedo is at this point furious at Kiki for spoiling his plans, but also dreadful afraid – because goose can lay eggs. You get the idea. He finally finds back Kiki, who actually didn’t fly too much away. Kiki is pondering what to do, because yes the Nome was rude and overbearing, but he knew how to plot, plan and scheme, while Kiki is not wise, so he took time to ponder what to do now, surprised at himself by his own crazy reactions. [Have I mentioned before that this boy has problems?]. Ruggedo, realizing that the boy is actually not the brightest light, decides to manipulate him with kindness and forgiveness: Kiki returns him to his Li-Mon-Eag form, and they discuss a new plan: Ruggedo wants Kiki to turn the fifty monkeys of the forest into giant soldiers with sharp swords, that he will then force to attack the Emerald City. Kiki points out that the swords are no good since no one from Oz can be killed: Ruggedo answers that they can be cut up into little pieces, and these living pieces scattered everywhere. [Yep, Oz became a horror show]. Kiki agrees and starts turning the monkeys, one at a time, into giants – to do so he goes away, so that Ruggedo doesn’t hear the word, but unknown to him the Wizard-Fox crawled nearby and hears everything. The Wizard immediately turns Kiki into a hickory-nut and Ruggedo into a walnut – well he tries a first time but fails because he pronounces the word wrongly, but the second time it works. The Wizard also undoes all the enchantments of Kiki.
After that the book forgets all about them for a long time, until the very end, once Ozma’s birthday party is done (yeah it is another minor plot point). Ozma, learning of what happened, refuses to let two living beings in the shape of nuts and asks the Wizard to give them back their original form (they still don’t know their real identities). The Wizard advises against it, because the two were powerful magicians, knowing a word of transformation whose great power can’t match those of the Wizard or of Glinda’s. But Dorothy comes up with a solution: upon transforming them back, the Wizard only needs to make them extremely thirsty too, and they will put near them a cup filled with the Waters of Oblivion, so that they will drink from it and forget everything. It works with Kiki Aru – and everyone is surprised that it is a young boy and not a dreadful magician. Since he had his entire memory erased, to the point he doesn’t even knows what a “boy” is, Ozma and co decide to keep him in the Emerald City and teach him all the ways of goodness. And… that’s it. We never hear of Kiki again, he never comes back, and we never know what happened of his parents back in Mount Munch.
Then, they reveal the identity of the second magician as Ruggedo – who also gets his mind erased. This time, the characters acknowledge that they did force him to drink of the Waters of Oblivion once, and that it worked into erasing his evilness, but according to them he “learned back” all the “wicked ways” when he was sent to his original home of the Nome Kingdom. So as to avoid this, they decide to keep Ruggedo in Oz, and just like Kiki, teach him the ways of goodness – and thus the former Nome King found a “new home, peaceful and happy” and passed his days in “innocent enjoyment”.
The end.

Galinda "Glinda " Arduenna Uppland and Ayame Sohma simmilarities
Emma Hunton as Elphaba and Gina Beck as Glinda
Glinda Uppland is a young woman who is flamboyant, dramatic, funny, comic,a bit selfish and yet a good friend.Ayame Sohma is The Snake of the Chinese Zodiac and has a simmilar personality.Behind their funny and comic expressions beats a good heart .
The second we meet Glinda she presents an extremely funny personality.'It's good to see me,isn't it?No need to respond, that was rhetorical',she exclaims. The second Ayame is a human after his transformation,he jokes and laighs. That whole thing is there up untill he has a lunch with Tohru where he reveals that he was selfish and regrets not helping Yuki ,his younger brother.
'And goodness knows, that WICKED'S lives are lonely.Goodness knows that WICKED die alone. It just shows when you're WICKED,you're LEFT ONLY ON YOUR OWN'.Glinda's sadness and regret is choking her here, yet she needs to keep up a cheery front for the people of Oz who are celebrating her best friend's death
.The word wicked said three times is the biggest one here.Glinda is referring to herself. It is HER life that is lonely, not Elphaba's (Elphaba is unknowingly to Glinda still alive with her lover). It is Glinda herself who will die alone(Elphaba when she dies,it will at least be in Fiyero's arms).Glinda is left on her own,not Elphaba.I bet this is what Ayame feels about Yuki.
Another big simmilarity is that both Glinda and Ayame are lovers of beauty, especially fashion.Glinda believes that her beauty is her worth(explicitly stated by the narrator in the book).Ayame has a dress shop.During the party scene, where she gets a hiddeous hat sent by her grandmother, she is very unhappy and shocked.'Pretend you did not see that',she jokingly says to her friend and selfishly gives the hat to Elphaba, which causes Elphaba to be humiliated.Simmilar to how Ayame harmed a girl who had a crush on him.
After the dance,we get a big Glinda scene-Popular.One of the funniest scenes in the musical."Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I,and let's face it,who isn't less fortunate than I,my tender heart tends to start to bleed".The whole scene is just Glinda over the top .Though, there are lines where Glinda demonstrates her clever view on the world.
'When I see depressing creatures with an unreposessing features ,I remind them on their own behalf to think of celebrated heads of states or especially great communicators.Did they have brains or knowledge?Don't make me laugh!'She knows the world is a cruel place and that only people who are somehow charming and beautiful succed.Elphaba recognizes Glinda's intelligence.Simmilar to how Yuki does the same for Ayame during parent teacher conference.
Next big moment is Defying Gravity .Glinda is selfishly trying to persuade Elphaba to stay"Elphie, listen to me.Just say you're sorry, before it's too late."She is in complete agony and very unhappy.Ayame is also the kind of man who would do something like that.He has a good heart, but is a bit selfish.
Now we are of to Act 2 and Thank Goodness is another moment where Glinda's facade comes into place. She is again pretending she is happy while wanting to cry."I couldn't be happier today"..A complete and utter lie.And the optional high note sounds like a scream.
When Fiyero decides to leave with Elphaba, enraged Glinda decides to use Elphaba's sister against her.She is indirectly responsible for Nessa's death. The two friends are unhappy and they fight.
Glinda's last big scene is For Good, her duet with Elphaba and the most mature and beautiful moment we see of Glinda. She knows that there are people out there who were led to her and she to them. She is who she is because she knew them. Thanks to them she was changed for good,be it good or bad.
Simmilarly,Mine, his wife and Yuki, his brother, were led to Ayame and are part of Ayame.Same with Shigure and Hatori, his two best friends..Because he knew them,he has been changed for good. The stories of Ayame and Glinda are stories of growth, leadership, love, friendship. There might be things that frighten them, but they will be there when they do.

Psycho but it’s okay- Fairy tales and their foreshadowing Part 3(Blue Beard, Othello, Wizard of Oz)
To Kill or Not To Kill
Note by the author: I feel like the momentum of PBIO is slowly reducing. The episodes so far have been incredible but I can see us losing steam and enthusiasm because of the back and forth still going on with our couple. Right now things are very heightened due to the conflict with the brothers and the supposed return of Moon Young’s mum but lately it’s been difficult to analyse that without repeating the same themes over and over again. Nevertheless here is a very short (well shorter than what I normally do) analytical post analysing the show so far and the theme this time is the murder of women! Enjoy.
Bluebeard was first mentioned in episode 6, the title of the episode focused on Bluebeard’s secret. The fairy tale of Bluebeard although chilling actually has a happy ending. The young girl gets rescued by her family from her serial killer husband. In Psycho it’s okay many characters are shown to see the story of Bluebeard in different perspectives of the other characters. Moon Young sees it as the girl who is traumatised and almost killed by Blue beard because of her curiosity and uncovering the truth that all his wives were killed by him, Sang Tae sees it as a sad story about why Bluebeard kept on marrying women because of loneliness and wanting to be loved, and Moon Young’s dad sees it from Bluebeard’s perspective for the reason for why he killed the women and his wife.
Park O Ran, the patient in the hospital has taken up a sinister role as Moon Young’s mother, she reads the book by her mother and constantly hums the song that haunts both Moon Young and her father. She mentions the next tale, the story about Othello a general who was misled into killing his wife because of lies and manipulation from the outside. She is seeing it from the point of Moon Young’s mum who she believes was unfairly killed and seen wrongly by society and the family she loves. Moon Young’s father is plagued with guilt and at the same time fear that he killed his wife, and follows the perspective of Othello who was overcome with jealousy and insecurity in why he killed his wife and everyone around him. Moon Young is like the innocent wife of Othello as well because she is the victim in this whole manipulation and game between Lago, Cassio and Othello. Her caring and trusting nature leads her to being hurt.
Lastly the name of the book Moon Young’s mother writes is called The murder of the wicked witch of the west. The wicked witch of the west is found in the fairy tale The wizard of oz. It’s interesting when you analyse the story as the story focuses on a young girl who ends up being the down fall of witch because she was manipulated by the wizard and others to do so. Again from Moon Young’s mother’s perspective she is the victim, the wicked witch was feared because she had green skin. (This will later parallel with Blue beard and his own insecurities about his blue coloured beard), she is seen as wicked because of this, people don’t notice that the reason she wants Dorothy’s downfall is because Dorothy’s house fell on her sister and killed her, and they stole her red shoes. They took someone precious from her and stole her things. This is very similar to Moon Young’s mother who is protective of her family and is determined to get rid of any one who tries to take them away. Dorothy ends up using water mistakenly killing the witch and she then realises that real person society worshipped, the wizard is not even powerful or real. He’s just a manipulator behind the scenes.
All these stories have the themes of women being killed unfairly, and being viewed as something they are not. The interesting thing about these stories is that there are themes and imagery that stand out and so when the characters see the stories in a different way it’s shadowing their own internal strife and struggles. Mostly these 3 stories together help piece together the traumatic connection between Moon Young and her real family, her flashbacks and trauma with her mother who seems cold and is seen as monster/witch, her fear and the abuse suffered by her father who seems to have been convinced and manipulated into thinking she’s a monster and her self who has been groomed to be like her mother but is curious and desperate to be a good witch not a bad one. The story also leaves clues again to foreshadowing clues, such as Moon Young’s father being the one to cause her mother to die, Moon Young having a role in it, Moon Young finding out about a murder of another woman in the basement that still haunts her till this day (just like Bluebeard’s bride did) and Gang Tae’s link to danger because of being connected to wanting to free her.
In a way Gang Tae finds a way to play a role in all of these fairy tales if you see it in a different way. He could be the brother that came to save the girl from Bluebeard and helped her run away. He could be the Cassio in the story of Othello, the loyal fair general who Othello becomes manipulated into jealousy against, Or he can be the good witch Glinda that offers Dorothy (Moon Young) a chance at freedom and a chance to see the wizard or he could also be the wizard who is actually weaker than how he’s viewed by everyone in Oz. Either way Gang Tae plays the role of the saviour again in these roles willing to help save Moon Young whilst also being hurt by society if he gets to know her or if she uncovers his truth.
(The way I see it we can see characters in Othello like this; we can Othello as Moon Young’s father, Lago as Society and Othello’s wife as Moon Young’s mother- that way it tells the story that from her point of view Moon Young’s mother feels betrayed that her husband was manipulated by society’s norms and others into thinking she was a monster and killing her. Or you can see it in this way Othello- Moon Young’s mother, Othello’s wife- Moon Young, Cassio- Gang Tae Lago-Society/Father- In this way Moon Young’s mother kills Moon Young’s spirit because she was jealous of her daughter being taken by Gang Tae when he arrived at the castle and her father as Lago because he ends up causing all of them to be killed by his selfishness and coldness. Or society because Moon Young’s mum doesn’t want anyone to take her daughter from her because she feels alone by how she is viewed by society for her illness and it drives her to being jealous when Gang Tae shows up)
The themes of these stories then follow the ideas of people feeling alienated by societal norms and their desperate attempts to not be alone as mentioned by Sang Tae who relates to this because he views his Autism as the blue beard of Bluebeard or green skin of the wicked witch . Moon Young’s is her ASPD that she was either born with or groomed with that makes people see her as a monster and take her feelings for granted. Her mother might have been the same as well. In a way the way Society views things that are different i.e. mental health causes these characters to be alienated and desperate to not lose the people who finally come into their lives. Moon Young’s mum adamant need to keep her alone in the castle by twisting her mind, Moon Young wanting Gang Tae by her side and Sang Tae’s own dependency on Gang Tae. The next themes also focuses on curiosity/ the need to uncover the secrets, which ends up being a downfall of the characters in these stories. Moon Young is like the bride in Bluebeard who’s curiosity leads her to breaking her promise and seeing the truth about her husband, she is traumatised by this scene but is later freed from it. Just like her curiosity with Gang Tae when they were younger leads to her realising how much of a monster her mother can be, and if we are still on that theory, it could be the catalyst for why Gang Tae’s mum ended up being murdered or why her mother ended up being killed.
The last themes mentioned is manipulation of people being a reason for why innocent people get hurt. In Bluebeard we are shown through Moon Young’s father that the reason why Bluebeard kills his wife is because she looked like an angel but she was manipulating him into thinking so, she was always a monster who didn’t love the man but wanted his riches. In Othello, Othello is led to believe that his wife is unfaithful and is driven to madness by jealousy when in reality it was all manipulation by Lago who is jealous of Cassio. And Wizard of Oz, Dorothy is manipulated by society that the wicked witch is evil, and also is manipulated by them to believing the powers of the wizard when in reality he’s just a fake behind the curtain. She had the powers all along when she was given the red shoes. In this show Manipulation causes issues for the people, whether it causes massive fall outs like when Sang Tae felt manipulated by Gang Tae’s lies and his own perspective of his memories, or when Moon Young felt manipulated by her mother to run away from Gang Tae because she’ll never have someone who loves her for who she is. Manipulation comes at a cost for these people who feel alone and isolated by the world and it leads them to losing it and making choices which end up hurting everyone in the progress.
(I also wanted to mention the water Dorothy uses to kill the witch, I mentioned in my previous posts that there is memory of a woman drowning and Moon Young watching the woman drown, and there’s a woman who was thrown of a balcony that was kept in the basement who Moon Young saw. The woman who was drowning could be Moon Young’s mother, because the song she sings to her Dear Clementine is also about a woman who drowns. )
So to Kill or Not to Kill? Was it right that Moon Young’s mother got killed, are we being manipulated by others to think she was evil when she might be just like Moon Young and have a disorder causing her to be perceived that way. Did the father have any right to want to kill Moon Young? Is Gang Tae right in the way he views her and treats her because he feels she has no emotions? (This one is complete bull by the way, the way he treats her is not okay. End of.) Are these women in the right or are they in the wrong and should they be treated like monsters and killed? Should they be alone? We all know the title of the show disagrees. It’s okay to not be okay. These people have every right to be loved, and be treated properly. They are still humans.
