I remember one of my favourite characters I've ever played was a bard. Mechanically he was basically just a mercenary fighterman who just happened to play the lute, but his characterization and flavour leaned heavily into stereotypical bard archetypes. He was great fun to play because nobody ever seemed to expect how very, very capable of intense close quarters violence that whimsical little bisexual really was
