🚫 My Sonic Big Bang 2024 Experience

...Or how a few months of my life were severely negatively impacted by someone else's bad management. See for yourself.

I feel like this is extremely unfair 😭 One moment I was participating in the event I dreamed about for years, and the next moment I'm thrown out into the cold when I did nothing wrong. I need to get it off my chest...

Below, more about my experience with the event, though it ended up a little vent-y, a detailed (and verified!) record of what exactly happened in private thread #48, the aftermath and some fun facts I discovered or want to share:

First things first! Yep, I signed up for Sonic BB as a Writer back in January. I didn't talk about it outside of my server 'cause I wanted it to be a surprise – when I roll out a lo-o-ong illustrated fic without a warning. I'll admit, I always wanted to participate in a Big Bang for this fandom, it was a dream of sorts. And still, before sending my form in, I carefully read all of the Master Guide and the FAQ both. Seeing as how for my neurodivergent brain the rules and regulations are important, that's what I usually do for events, and this one wasn't an exception. Confident that I understand what the event would require of me, I signed up.

First month of the event went well. My questions were answered (even though I wondered why some of the things I asked couldn't have been in the Master Guide from the beginning), I wrote my fic summary and submitted it without many problems, etc. There was a small hiccup at the very beginning of March when I noticed how strict the management seemed to be (no changes or adjustments allowed), and my anxiety got the best of me, so I asked the mods if there's a plan in case a collab team doesn't work out: screenshot of my message in #writers-info-and-questions, pulled from my Discord data; screenshot of my detailed explanation in DMs; screenshot of Mod Joy's reply. Here are the most important quotes from his reply:

I understand wanting to plan for the worst case scenarios, but I would caution you not to freak yourself out over what all could go wrong! There are some absolutely lovely artists in this event who are excited to work with the writers. Odds are, things will go off without a hitch.

We are highly encouraging that no one drops out after the assignments, especially writers, unless due to extenuating circumstances.

We want to make everything as fun and stress-free for everyone. Know that we will be around to moderate threads and dissolve any tensions that arise,..

In short, I was placated with reassurances of careful moderation, not dropping writers and ✨positivity✨. I decided to stay and challenge myself since originally BB is meant to be a challenge and all...

For those of you who haven't participated: the way it is supposed to go is that writers submit short summaries of their stories, these summaries are stripped of the writers' names and given to artists to pick through. The artists then have to list their Top 10 stories to illustrate during the claims period. After the claims, private collab threads are made for each writer and their artists with a couple of mods. So no one else could see what happens in these threads.

Now flashforward to March 11th and the threads being created. Obviously I don't have screenshots of that due to being kicked off the server without any warning and before any chance of communication, unable to delete my personal information or save anything that might be used against me which was a case of poor management at best and a deliberate move at worst, so I'm retelling as faithfully as possible. It also has been verified by [artist 1] and according to them, this is exactly what happened.

My fic was in the 4-8k range, and I got two artists. I was asleep when the thread opened, and they talked about how excited they are for my fic before I came in. Both of them are 18, young but adults. I’ll call them [artist 1] (they're cool), and the other one is [artist 2]. Both artists seemed to talk to me normally.

Oh, I have to point out that there were hmm, Mods Chaz, Joy, Summers and Frostios in my thread. I think only four of them, but I know for sure Mod Summers was reading our conversation at least in the beginning because I noticed my fic's Warnings saying "None" (the original summary I submitted had Warnings: Discussion of Homophobia, Slight Internalised Homophobia), and I pointed out that there are warnings, though I don't know if they were lost just now or weren't in the sheet available to the Artists either, and whether they were actually lost or mods didn't consider it a big enough warning to keep... I still don't know. Mod Summers just silently pinned my message.

I mentioned how I'm in one of the Asian timezones geographically, so I might be awake or asleep at unconventional times, and they told me their timezones (I didn't ask!), so I figured I can make a timebuddy chart for easy tracking what time it is for everyone. Made one, sent the link to the thread, Mod Summers asked me if I want it pinned, too, and then a couple of hours later (I think?) [artist 1] came and said it's very helpful. This is my evidence for at least Mod Summers probably reading the conversation that followed but also maybe not. I think all of the mods were online or at least visually online when it was happening.

This is where I reveal that the entire conversation happened in like... one afternoon 🥲 Roughly 7 pm to 2 am for me.

Back to the conversation itself. There were a few questions I had so I started with them, basically 1) if they've read my fics before (explained that I'm asking so I know whether I need to tell them about my writing style and Sonadow dynamics I write); 2) do they want me to send in scenes as I write them or they want a full draft; 3) if they have any immediate questions for me. Question 1) is what we need. Both of them said they've never read my stuff before, and that they don't have any questions now but they want art to be as close to text as possible, so they will ask in the future. This is how it went down after (as per my memory, artist rendition I guess):

[artist 1]: I haven't read your fics but I'd like to! Your Ao3 is the same as your handle? [no link]

Me: It isn't a requirement, you don't have to! But that's right. I have to warn you though that I usually rate my Ao3 profile as 18+ when I link it, though 33/36 of my Sonic fics are rated G and T, and I feel like a warning is in order anyway so people don't accidentally stumble upon something they don't want to see and know what to avoid/filter out. [I didn't post any links or encouraged the artists to read my profile, just made a warning to be cautious]

We go into discussion of how long I have been writing, [artist 1] shows no problems with knowing my Ao3 has 3 Mature fics, I describe what series my fic will be for [the series is completely SFW, and even then I didn't post the link to it] and go into details of how I write Sonadow dynamics in my fics without mentioning the NSFW ones obviously, we speak about Question 2).

[artist 2]: [replying to my warning about my Ao3] ooohh so you write gore sometimes?

Me: Nah, I don't actually, I'm pretty uncomfortable with it tbh, so no, I don't. Some blood and a quick description of Maria's dead body is the most I have ever done 😅 All the angst I make characters go through is emotional rather than physical!

[artist 2]: oh I shouldn't have assumed, sorry. It's just the first thing my mind went to

Me: It's okay! I've been a medical student at some point and I think I've just had enough of that - one of the main reasons I'm not a doctor but a linguist.

[artist 1] gets excited about this for some reason, and we chat about it for a moment.

Normal conversation continues like...

Me: Okay, where were we

[artist 2]: i wasn't paying attention errr

Me: Me neither! But it's Question 3)

I go into saying how them wanting to draw as close to the text is 💯 what I wanted to hear because for me my texts are an extension of my soul, I'm fragile about them, and I'd prefer the art to be exactly according to it blah-blah-blah, I describe my thoughts about a plan of work for us and how I'm going to share pieces of my fic according to their respective wishes.

[artist 1]: Sounds great!

[artist 2]: yeah, sounds good

[artist 1] says something else which I just react with an emoji to, and I start getting ready for sleep because it's almost 2 am, and I have to get up at 6 am.

Nothing else was said in the thread. That's it.

I got to bed and as most people nowadays I check my phone one last time. I see [artist 2] requesting a mod they can DM to, but I don't think much of it…

So 6 am. I wake up and again, as most people nowadays, I check my phone. I went to sleep in a good mood, seemingly in good relations with my artists, excited for the collab and having a solid plan everyone agreed to, so I eagerly open Discord to see if they wrote anything new in the thread. I see no Sonic Big Bang 2024 server.

I will not go into too much detail about my state, but I have an extremely acute reaction to stress very similar to a panic attack that lasts for hours. So with shaking fingers I open my DMs to see the message from that first screenshot I started my post with. The following exchange with me learning about the hidden rule happens the next day. Unfortunately, before that I still have to go to work for a full day in that very same mental state, oof. Plus I have no breaks on Tuesday... I go back and forth all day with my friends about how shitty this situation is, and one of them asks me how [artist 1] reacted. I say that I don't know, but they still follow me on Tumblr so I go and message them, and from what they tell me, it sounds like a mod pretended to them that I was removed because of an existing rule that's stated somewhere. They didn't argue with that, and that's understandable of course.

At home, I notice one of the event mods blocked me.

It is difficult to explain what's happening in my mind without going into details of what my [disorders] are, but things that are unfair, things that are injustice put my brain in a loop until all wrongs are righted. I'm ranting about it to friends, and I think about it day and night. On March 14th I vent about it in the tags of a related reblog, and this is the only instance of me talking about StH BB on my blog. Next morning I'm blocked by the event blog and over the next 2 weeks – by two more mods, while another mod speaks to me passively-aggressively in a shared Discord server. Then I'm shown a screenshot where one of the mods claims I offered my Ao3 to my artists (I didn't) and implies everyone who writes NSFW is dangerous. And then I receive a hate ask about the event, calling me "creepy"... All this time, my brain is still stuck in a loop, and let me tell you – it's not fun. It doesn't help that my first reaction to everything that makes me feel bad is always to assume I'm at fault for everything, and seeing how hostile people are to me, I'm drowning in self-blame. Without going into any more detail, it takes me 2 months and a lot of help to somewhat recover, so I finally send my reply to Headmod Chaz and receive one back:

If you got to this part, you know that half of Headmod Chaz's reply is simply untrue since there were no "multiple instances", and in any case I was never asked to keep quiet about my ban (and why should I?). I sent another reply a month later expressing my confusion and wondering when the messages will be removed (only my intro was removed). As of today, that reply is still ignored, and the messages aren't removed 🤷

And this is the entirety of my Sonic Big Bang 2024 experience. Now for some Q&A:

Why did you wait so long to make this post? I didn't want to put any participants under fire, particularly my friends because I'll admit, the mods seem like petty people. And also I was worried about throwing shade on other participants (people associating their works with this) or spoiling the event for people who were genuinely having fun with it. Thus, I waited until it was over!

Is this a callout post? According to definition as "public criticism or asking someone to explain their actions", I think it is – in terms of calling out bad management. It is definitely not a call for harassment. There is a reason I censored some names and left vague who reported me, blocked me, was hostile to me or spread rumours about me. Please don't bother anyone, and if the mods decide to engage with this, they can post their own statement.

Aside from the above reasons, why make a post at all? Two reasons: a personal one and an altruistic one. Firstly, I hope to get closure this way since I still feel like I was unjustly thrown away when I was just being a dutiful person. Secondly, while Headmod Chaz said they will be transparent about this rule next time they run an event, as you can see they fully ignored my suggestion of doing it now, and in general keeping a rule hidden to such an extent where you lie in your FAQ is pretty shady... I don't trust them not to do it again next year.

Is it okay to reblog the post/reply to it, what about sending an ask or a PM? I turned off the reblogs, but you can still reply or PM or send a non-anonymous ask (anonymous asks will be deleted because I want to be able to answer privately). If you decide to be negative or call me names, however, be prepared to be blocked by IP or username.

Finally, fun facts as promised 🔥

There are other participants out there who have had negative experiences with BB or were made uncomfortable by the way it was managed, but I'm not going to speak for them;

There was this whole thing with hypocrisy and possible favouritism;

Despite the mods insisting on ME being quiet about my ban, it's now known that they shared information about it outside the mod group;

Out of 6 mods: 5 have me blocked, 2 were passive-aggressive with 1 of them going as far as verbally lash out at me in DMs, and only 1 mod gave me a somewhat human apology before blocking me (not pictured in screenshots);

I saw 3 NSFW writers and at least 2 NSFW artists participating in BB just by scrolling through my dash, without seeking them out, and this is not counting people I noticed in the server prior to me being banned;

Some people are posting Mature and Explicit extras and sequels/prequels to their BB stories already;

The artist who reported me seems to have dropped out anyway;

There's a joke reason why I'm making a post, too: I have to earn being blocked from the event blog since they said they did it because of multiple instances of me talking about my removal;

For this post (and because one of their staff members is a former Big Bang mod), I was forever banned from participating in Chaos Quill Collection projects;

I'm actually grace and most of the time write my characters as aspec, and I'm exploring what sexuality and intimacy mean for me through writing, so this situation felt a little... like gatekeeping;

My fic was #48 under the title Chao Care 101, and I want you to give me a high five if you had it among your top choices 🖐

Originally, I wasn't going to complete my BB fic because it made me feel bad, but now I've decided I want to reclaim it, so I'm writing it now. Almost 8k words at the moment. It will be published. And it will be illustrated;

Meanwhile, what good came out of this disaster is Sonic Supernova 2025, and I recommend you all to keep an eye out for this inclusive Big Bang-like event 🌟

FAQ

What is a Big Bang?

A Big Bang is a fandom event wherein writers and artists come together to create! Typically, a writer will create a fic that meets a certain minimum length requirement, and an artist will create an art piece based upon that work. Writers and artists are paired up to work on their parts until the posting date, where the pieces are posted together!

Who can participate?

Any fans of the Stobotnik pairing are more than welcome to participate! This includes writers and artists, but we are also looking for beta readers and moderators. Currently, there is no cutoff for the number of participants.

How do I join?

Currently, sign-ups are closed. The first round of sign-ups was for writers, followed by artist and beta readers, who may input preferences for which project they would like to work on.

What happens after I sign up?

You will be contacted in DMs with the link to a Discord server, which will be the main hub for communication and check-ins. A Discord account will most likely be required for your participation in the event, but we are currently looking at possible alternative forms of communication if enough people request it.

Can I write/draw NSFW?

As long as you are over 18, yes! There will be a question within the application to confirm you are 18 or older; if you lie about this to us, you will be removed from the event. It is also required that writing and art of this nature is appropriately tagged and warned upon posting.

Can I participate as both an artist and writer?

No. For the sake of us here in the mod team and everyone participating, it is far easier if each person only does one thing, so you will need to pick one or the other.

Is there a theme?

There is no theme; if we run another event in future, there may be, but for the 2025 Big Bang, there's no theme, so go wild!

It has been a long time since we last provided updates so I figured I'd answer even more questions on how this bang will be structured and some updates on when it will open!

Since this bang is about pairing writers and artists with common interests, this bang is open to all ships surrounding Supernatural, so RPF will be allowed

We decided to open the bang to 16+, but we will be keeping NSFW channels restricted, and anyone under 18 may not work on any explicit material, art or fic. People may also mark on their sign-up forms if they would be uncomfortable being paired with someone under 18

There will be three tiers! This is so that authors/artists of all working speeds can join. There will be different posting times and deadlines based on the tier you join so that people are not waiting on later tiers to post.

There is a discord bang for the server, that will be opened (soon) before and after the bang so that writers and artists can have a place to receive help and advice. There will be small weekly events held to encourage both writers and authors to make small steps in working on their WIPs.

We are still open to mods. If you're interested in that feel free to give send an email, ask, or DM our way!

This bang is focused on encouraging collaboration and there will not be any anonymous claim periods, so unlike a lot of other bangs, if you have a partner you wish to enter the bang with, you will be allowed to do so!

A: i'm kirbypurrs. i used to be on this site a year ago. if you know me from other sites, hi! if you know what happened with my old account, i will be explaining some things briefly below. if you don't know who i am at all, feel free to read this too, if you want.

A: i fucked up!

back in november of last year, a thorough callout post was written about me and my behavior. it was an extremely eye opening moment for me and i needed the kick in the ass.

i will not be posting the callout here however, as the valid points have been completely overrun with completely false accusations (more on that in a minute).

basically, i was an extremely emotionally volatile teenager with a nasty anger issues/doormat combo, surrounded by toxic friends, that made me a pain in the ass to deal with. i made a lot of bad decisions, i hurt a lot of people. point blank.

i have privately apologized/made amends with almost everyone involved, including the OP of the callout, but people are well within their right to know my history and make their own judgment.

i must say again that i am deeply sorry for my actions. i am still ashamed of myself to this day and i have made many strides to become a better person.

i always will be a work in progress, but i can happily say i am a much happier, healthier, more well adjusted person.

A. above all, i just missed tumblr. and also twitter is imploding and instagram sucks. i still have a drive to share art and ideas with the community i've been apart of for almost 4 years.

i never have been any of the nasty things said about me, my past character, or even artstyle. it IS true in the past that i was not good at keeping a filter in all ages discord servers, but that was a result of me trying to be the "cool, chill mod" and be on everyone's good side by letting a lot of things slide and participating in stupid jokes/getting carried away with head canons. it's a mistake i will never make again.

never once have i had explicit conversations with minors, sent explicit materials to minors, i am not a proshipper because i draw a ship with one character bigger than the other. anyone perpetuating those rumors will be blocked.

A: i will begin to post my art on here and coexist quietly in my corner as i have been for the past year. i will also not be addressing this issue publicly again, i ask again that all questions, comments, or concerns are directed to my dms on my main blog or discord.

FAQ

What are we exchanging?

Any form of fan art such as written fics, drawings, moodboards, playlists, etc. Our signup form will have an option for you to select the type of fan art you're hoping to see. Since this is a smaller, first-year exchange we will NOT have any minimum requirements for gifts. This means that your gifter may give you a fic that's 5 words or less, or that you may get a playlist with just one song. You do not need to incorporate all the prompts your giftee included in their wants list. You ARE required to not include ANYTHING your giftee included in their do not want list. If you're not sure, please reach out to us and we'll connect you to your giftee.

What are sign up requirements?

You must be 18+ to enter! If your Tumblr blog does not indicate your age (we don't need exact numbers, general terms like 18+ or elder milenial is also fine), we will not be able to sign you up.

What if I'm not on Tumblr?

For the first year, we're keeping all communications in Tumblr while we figure out logistics. This was the easiest way we could think of to keep things relatively google-free and anonymous. We will have an optional discord server for folks that signed up

How do I sign up?

Please fill out this form (we're using a Google Alternative called CryptPad) We'll ask you for your Tumblr handle, desired medium (drawing? fics?), desired rating (explicit? gen?) and most importantly, what you want to see and what you do NOT want to see. What you want to see is more of a guideline. Gifters are not required to hit all of your want list (but they should try to hit at least some). Gifters ARE required to NOT include anything in your do not want list

Do you need pinch hitters?

We do! Please fill out this form. Pinch hitters will not get a gift in exchange (but you'll have our gratitude). You can both sign up for an exchange and as a pinch hitter. Please fill out BOTH forms to do so. Pinch hitter applications will last for the duration of this event.

How do I get matched?

Once everyone is signed up, we'll send out links to a table where you'll see anonymized prompts, desired mediums, desired ratings, etc. Then you can rank each request from 1 (absolutely want this) to x (do NOT match me with this prompt). Then we'll use the rankings to match you to your first pick as much as possible. If there's competition, we'll break the tie using dice rolls. If you'd rather not rank at all, please send us a DM and tell us what you feel comfortable creating, and we'll do our best to match you. But folks who set a ranking explicitly will get priority

Will I get exactly what I asked for?

No. Artists should NOT incorporate things you said you do NOT want, but we can't guarantee that your gifter would be able to fit in all the things you said you DO want.

What happens if I need to drop out?

That's alright. Life happens. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can look for pinch hitters. We'll announce calls for pinch hitters on the blog and discord

What if I have a question for my giftee?

If you DM us, we'll create an anonymous doc for you and your giftee. You can chat asynchronously on that doc. Please do not share your names or blog handles to keep up the surprise.

What happens if I have a question for the mods?

You can either message us or send us an ask here! Or contact us in the discord server

Can I keep posting AFTER the work due date - August 24, 2025?

Yep! The work due date is just the due date to complete the work, but you may want to space out posting if you had a longer fic. As long as you finish the fic by the due date, and have at least one section posted by then, it's all fine.

Can I post BEFORE the posting date - June 20, 2025?

Please don't. We won't be prepared to share your fics or announce them before the date.

Where do I post?

Ao3, Tumblr, BlueSky... anything is fine as long as it's accessible to your giftee without them needing to make a new account besides Tumblr and Ao3. We would greatly appreciate if you avoid Twitter (also known as X)

What is Cohawk Week and, uh...why is it called Cohawk?

Listen, portmanteau ship names are all the rage and not only is Wooley's defining characteristic in canon his mohawk, but I do love a good pun. So...Cody + Mohawk = Cohawk.

Cohawk week is an event for fandom creators in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars fandom. It celebrates the relationship between Commander Cody and Clone Trooper Wooley in any and all forms including (but not limited to): sexual, romantic, platonic, and subject to the command structure of the GAR.

When is Cohawk Week?

Cohawk Week 2025 begins Sunday, September 28 and runs through Saturday October 4.

Will you accept late works?

Yes, the collection on AO3 will remain open until October 31st and the Cohawk-Canoe Tumblr account will reblog works tagged with the #cohawk week 2025 tag for 10 days after the end of the event.

What kinds of fan works are welcome for Cohawk Week?

All types of fan works are welcome; fic, podfic, digital art, traditional art...anything you create is great.

Do I have to make something for each day of the week?

Absolutely not! You are free to create (or read/take in) fan works for one day or for all of them.

Can I mix and match prompts?

You can, but please post them on the day of the latter prompt. For example, if you take a prompt from Day 1 and combine it with a prompt from Day 4, the work should be posted on Day 4. If you are posting multi-chapter fics that mix and match prompts, please try to match your posting dates to the prompt days as closely as possible and add an author's note if they do not align.

Can other characters (or ships) be included?

Yes, but please keep the focus on Cody and Wooley in whatever form you see their relationship taking and please tag appropriately for all ships and characters.

Are NSFW/Explicit works allowed?

Explicit works are allowed (and encouraged), but MUST be tagged properly on AO3 and labeled with the appropriate Major Archive Warnings. Tumblr contributions must also be properly tagged and have appropriate community labels applied.

Where is Cohawk Week happening?

There is a collection on AO3 that is cleverly titled Cohawk Week 2025 and a tumblr named Cohawk Canoe (because it's bigger than a pool noodle, but not actually a ship yet). You are free to post works wherever else you like on the internet, but please link to them from your tumblr and tag Cohawk Canoe so they can be reblogged as part of the event.

There is no Cohawk Week Discord server, but if you feel like you might die without out, drop me a DM and we'll see.

Which versions (Legends/Canon) of Wooley are acceptable?

Any and all --even the one where he was supposed to be a medic. He does not have much of a presence in the Clone Wars show, so feel free to expand on his personality as you see fit.

Is there anything that is prohibited content?

Without the intent of harshing anyone's buzz, I am the only mod for this event and would prefer that works not include the following: animal cruelty, non-con, graphic violence involving characters under the (species equivalent) age of 16 (8 for clones), and sexual content involving characters under the (species equivalent) age of 16 (8 for clones)

This is a matter of personal preference, not moral judgement. Please do write any of the above if that is what brings you joy and please share them far and wide outside of Cohawk Week.

Here's the verdict!

Thanks everyone for their patience! Here are the poll's results:

The dates will stay as they currently are the 8th & 9th of June, mark your calendars! There will be 2 days to submit entries, there likely won't have an extension period this time around, unless I change my mind on the matter.

The idea of using the painting The Kiss, 1908 (Klimt) as our focus point won!

So, here is how this event will work:

Artists will draw their take on the painting with Aldemu - in short it will be an aldemu DTIYS for drawn entries;

Obviously, taking into consideration our lovely writers, as to not exclude them. They should write an one-shot (Max. 12,000 words - according to some sources I've looked into. Feel free to let me know if I got it wrong.) Taking inspiration from the painting. Keep it relatively short as to not be too straining or difficult for you guys!

Here is the neat bonus: While the painting IS our focus, June is also pride month. So, you can absolutely take this opportunity to exposit your Headcanons on the subject, for either or both characters.

Questions and Answers!

Thank you everyone for the love so far on the interest checks! As I was going through I saw some questions so I thought I would start to answer them. All questions and answers will be located here. If you have any that you think of but forgot to ask on the submission you can DM us. :)

How do we get partnered?

What will happen is the writers will submit a small blurp of the piece they want to write. Then the artists will have roughly a week to go through and pick the piece or pieces they want to draw for! For a reverse bang think of the opposite. Instead of writers submitting a blurp the artist would submit the idea for the piece and the writer would pick which one they want to write a story for.

When would this take place?

As of now, we are roughly looking at openings for everything starting at the end of Feb. Based on the data collected for the minimum word count will depend on how long. Big bangs normally last 3+ months to give artists & writers time to work. We know life can get hectic at times so we do not want people to feel rushed. :)

Would multichapter fics need to be posted all at once?

Nope! You will just need to have the minimum word count met by posting time and at least two chapters done. If you can get the whole story finished in time that is great, but do not rush.

Would we need to keep our ideas secret or are we free to share?

You will only be allowed to talk about it freely with your partner. Your group will have a channel in the discord server to talk about and plan/plot your pieces. We want to make it a fun surprise for the fandom when it comes time to post!

Will this take place through Discord or some other online platform?

It will be through Discord! We have finished creating the server. We plan to use the server as a community hub for writers and artists too once the event is finished.

Will this be Arcane only or is LoL Jayvik allowed?

Both as long as Jayvik are the center of your piece!

Are both top/bottom dynamics allowed?

Yes since this falls under NSFW!

How brief should the writer's idea be?

Think of it as writing a summary for it on AO3. You want enough for the artist to understand your idea so include the ending and any plot points as well in it.

What would writer's need to provide for check-ins?

Writers will have a word count minimum for each check-in. The first will be the outline, after that, it will be word counts. Where we are still determining the minimum wc we do not know how many check-ins at this time. It will all be submitted through google excel. You will provide the link to your fic and the writer mod and head mod will check to make sure it has met word count for that check in.

Will the mods check each work before posting to ensure there's no whitewashing/disability erasure/transphobia/etc?

We will try our best to stay on top of it! We do not want to support work that has that in it as some of the mods themselves are trans and have a disability. If there is a big group though some might slip through the cracks. We would like for groups to notify us if their partner is showing signs of this in their work as well.

Will there be a maximum word count?

No there will not be a maximum word count. For big bangs we only have a minimum word count. We do not limit you as long as you have it done in time for posting. For one shots you will need to have the whole fic done and meet the minimum word count. For multichapter fics you will need the first two chapters done and meet the minimum word count.

What would the timeline roughly look like as far as partnering and creation period goes?

I’ve (Mod Chaos) been in/helped run a few bangs for about 4 years now. As of now, it looks like our minimum wc will be 5k. So I’m looking at it being roughly a 4-5 month timeline with about 3 to 4 check-ins. After the interest check closes and I get a definite answer on minimum wc I will have the answer.

"The word count for a big bang should be much higher than the ones you've suggested."

Thank you for the suggestion but we are keeping the word count lower. As stated in the earlier question, I (Mod Chaos) have been in/helped run a few bangs in the past. Each one I've been in has had a variety of different minimum word counts, but none were higher than 10k. The minimum word count never determined if those events were Big Bangs or not. These events have always been about partnership and community building. I also know life can randomly hit in the middle of the event (from experience) or you just need a break. Having a lower minimum word count helps people not feel so rushed in case that happens. Also, I know many people in fandoms want to participate in events, and having a more doable word count helps include everyone. A few people have reached out talking about how bigger word counts (15k-20k) made the big bangs almost undoable. I do not want that. If you want a minimum word count of 10k or higher that is amazing and can be a personal goal. As someone who writes way more than 5k, I do not want to limit those who do write a lot either.

"I would not like to participate if dead dove content is allowed."

Dead dove content is allowed but at the mods discretion. We have a list of content warnings and what content is allowed to be discussed where within the server. Anything not listed must be approved by Mod Chaos or Asher as there are some topics we will not be allowing at all. If someone posts that content after being told not to it will automatically be deleted and they will be given a warning. If it happens again they will be removed permanently. If there are any content warning questions before we allow server access, please feel free to ask us for clarification. Thank you!

One time I was on a discord server, I was in my early 20s (I'm still in my 20s tbf), server for the collecting of a certain item type. Some random drama happened with a user claiming to be abused at home, we tried to help. Girl got kicked because people got too sus about it.

Anyway, because I had been involved speaking to her, one of the mods contacted me in the DMs. Told me about the situation, and I was kinda shocked, so I asked a few extra questions. Call them Mod15

Well another mod then contacted me, and told me that Mod15 was talking shit about me, for asking the questions about the situation, and that Mod15 IS 15!!! I had no idea. That mod was really mad at Mod15 because 1) she didn't like that a mod was just 15 years old. 2) the mod had basically bought themselves into the role by buying the server nitro. 3) the admin didn't do anything/incredibly passive. Let's call that mod: ModP

I showed ModP the conversation with Mod15, and showed her that my talk with him was pretty basic bitch. But man did I fucking feel disgusted by this. I never contacted Mod15, he contacted ME. I deleted my entire talk with him. It was basically just "What happened? Is everyone ok? Do you know if she's ok." that stuff.

Side info: When I joined I also asked if they'd have a NSFW channel, just "because" it kinda was the norm to have one if the hobby had a lot of adults, even if it wouldn't contain anything sexually explicit. So it was made, but there was very little happening all things considered.

Well skip forward a few weeks. We had a vent channel, and Idk how it started. (I still have the screenshots from start to finish somewhere on another discord with a friend, but I'd need to look for them.)

But for some reason we started talking about how minors, who're minors entering the 18+ channel should be kicked from the server. The admin only made the NSFW channel "click to confirm" instead of role based, which is something that was discussed later between him and the mods I was told my ModP later. (Or another Mod I got to know.)

And guess whoms't but Mod15 would freak the fuck out and start an entire thing about it. He said we couldn't demand this blah blah. One argument he had was shit like "Well we see things like these on twitter, so why care if we see it here." and like, because this is a closed space. A lot of that kinda logic, that it wasn't a problem finding 18+ content anywhere on the web, and we shouldn't bitch about it.

Hell even some other minor and a lot of adults said that this was not a good point to make, and that these warnings and channels aren't made to "just keep minors safe", but to keep adults safe as well. And that adults have a right to want spaces where minors can't and won't enter. Anyway, this went on for far too long. I mean I think this thing went on for a few hours. Mod15 also freaked out when someone suggested making it role only.

Mod15 admitted to having entered the NSFW channel, which wasn't the great point he was trying to make, and one of the other adults admitted to having shared some bodypillow designs with Mod15. Which also wasn't a particular flex you'd make tbh.

ModP contacted me in that time, and another Mod, ModT, and they were actually annoyed that the Admin refused to do anything, and still wanted to keep Mod15. They had apparently also tried to make some specific roles before, but Admin just didn't wanna do it. You know, roles that give you identifiers such as "minor, male, female, adult" or pronouns etc.

They asked me if I could talk to Admin, and I did try, but Admin was so fucking passive, he said "Well, the problem was that you had asked about the NSFW channel." Not the fact that a minor decided that this was a free invitation to enter, or that the minor decided he had the random right to contact me about something, and then bitch about me to the other mods. That's when I decided I couldn't deal with this and left, if he couldn't even see how annoying it had gotten. At that point the collection discord had also grown considerably in size, because it got the "official (collectors) server" on reddit as well, and I didn't wanna stick around for the shitshow.

Extra info: The server did have an "introduction" channel, but it didn't have roles to give identifiers. And as probably anyone on a slightly bigger server would know, you start muting a lot of channels quickly. Admin tried to blame me for not checking the channel, in his DMs to me, when at that time there were constantly people joining and I had like half the channels muted to begin with.

Interest Check Questions

What is your framework for MCYT?

-> We are pretty loose with the term! SMPs, hardcore and solo worlds, minecraft-based series. You will be working with others, though, so we do ask that you try signing up with multiple fandoms, just so there is a better chance to match you up with other people who actually share your fandom!

Would participants be required to know the lore of servers that prompts are based on?

-> The prompts will not be server-specific. It will be up to participants to relate the prompts to servers!

What is the schedule?

-> We are pinning down the specifics, but we are planning on January! We don't want to throw things at you during October (Inktober, Halloween exchanges, etc.) or during December (finals for many people (including mods), holiday exchanges, etc.) So, some time in January! We are hoping to nail down exact dates in the coming days.

How long will the event last? What about individual rooms?

-> There will be no time limit for individual rooms. Everyone will just work toward finishing what they can before the end of the event. We will have five rooms total to complete, and will give two weeks to complete each one. Again, you do not have to have each room completed within those two weeks, but that is your marker to know if you're on track to finishing all five rooms before the event runs out! And who knows, maybe there will be more at the end...

What timezone will this event be using?

-> As said above, we will not have deadlines for individual rooms (so hopefully no worries about 4 am deadlines. Except maybe the last room), but we will likely be using EST or CST, since those are the time zones that most mods are in.

Can we request to team with someone specific?

-> We will not be making teams by request, sorry! We want everyone to have a good time, but also get to know some more people within the fandom!

Can we request to not be on a team with someone specific?

-> Yes! If you reach out to a mod, we can put you guys on our DNM (Do Not Match) list, to make sure you do not end up together, no questions asked
