Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader with OCD

Thank you to the anon who requested this and consulted with me on OCD!

Disclaimer: It it not my intention to glorify or romanticize OCD with this story. I consulted with multiple people who have OCD to develop this character.

“Are you ready for bed?” Peter asked as he climbed under the covers on his side. It was your first night in Peters apartment after moving in with him, and you had a nervous feeling in your tummy. There were things about yourself you had begun to notice, and you wondered how long it would take for Peter to notice as well.

“Almost.” You nodded as you knocked on the wall behind you four times. You climbed into bed beside Peter as if nothing happened, leaving Peter puzzled.

“What are you doing?” Peter chuckled as he watched your movements.

“If I don’t do this, I can’t sleep.” You said simply.

“Okay.” Peter laughed again, making you wince a little.

“I know it doesn’t actually help me sleep.” You admitted. “I just need to do it.”

“Wow. I can’t wait to see all the other little quirks you’ve been hiding from me.” Peter smirked as he leaned over to kiss you.

“Yeah.” You laughed nervously. “Quirks.”

Peter woke up the next morning to the feeling of you playing with his hair, soft fingertips brushing it off his forehead.

“Good morning sleepy head.” You said through a yawn as you combed his hair off his face.

“Good morning to you too. Are you hungry?” Peter asked as he rubbed your shoulders.

“Um, what time is it?” You sleepily rubbed your eyes.

“111:23” He answered after checking his phone.

“I’m okay.” You decided, despite your stomach growling. “I’ll wait until lunch.”

“Are you sure?” Peter noticed the growl. “I can make you something.”

“I’m sure. Sure, sure, sure.” You told him. “I’ll wait until lunch.”

Once the clock hit an even number, it was lunchtime. You walked into the kitchen at 2:24 feeling famished.

“God I’m hungry.” You patted your stomach. “Do you have anything to eat?”

“Let’s see.” Peter said as he opened his cabinet. “I have honey and boxed Mac and cheese.”

“Ooo. This a fancy restaurant.” You teased as you hugged him from behind.

“Shut up.” He laughed and turned around in your arms. “I haven’t gone shopping in a while.”

“It’s fine. We’ll go tomorrow.” You told him before kissing him. You broke away from him and took out the macaroni while he got out a pot and filled it with water.

“Here you are my love.” Peter carried the heavy pot with ease and placed it on the stove.

“Thank you. How long does the box say to boil it for?” You asked as you turned the heat up on the stove.

“11-13 minutes.” Peter read off the back of the box.

“Okay.” You nodded as you set the timer to 12 minutes. “Okay, okay, okay.”

“So precise.” Peter joked, making your face flush.

“Yup.” You forced a laugh and kept your tone light. “I just like to be precise. I definitely don’t feel like I can’t eat the macaroni unless it cooks for exactly 12 minutes.”

“What was that?” Peter asked curiously when he didn’t understand what you said.

“Nothing.” You looked over your shoulder and smiled at him. “It’ll be ready soon.”

A month later, Peter walked into his bathroom to brush his teeth. You were already in there, leaning close to the mirror and pressing on all your teeth.

“What are you doing?” Peter chuckled as he wrapped his arms around your waist from behind.

“I need you to check my teeth.” You turned around in his arms with a panicked expression.

“For food?” He asked and looked at your teeth. “They’re all good.”

“No, for any loose ones.” You told him and he let out a short laugh.

“Why would your teeth be loose?” He raised an eyebrow, thinking you were kidding.

“They’re not. I know they’re not.” You said, mostly to yourself. “Could you just confirm for me that they’re not?”

Peter found the request strange, but obliged and pressed on your teeth the way you had.

“All good.” He confirmed. “Nothing loose.”

You sighed in relief and turned around again, leaving Peter curious about the encounter. He shrugged it off and walked back into the bedroom, changing into his Spiderman suit while you finished up in the bathroom.

“You’re going out?” You asked from the doorway when you noticed Peter in his suit.

“Yeah. I shouldn’t be too long.” He promised. “I’ll be back before you’re asleep.”

“Will you be back before 12?” You asked as you tugged on your earlobe.

“Yeah, I will.” He told you as he placed his hands on your waist.

“Okay. I’ll see you then.” You smiled at Peter as you patted his cheek twice before kissing him. You did this every time Peter was about to leave on patrol. Before you were a couple, he’d text you before he would go out on patrol so you could flex your hand three times to ensure his safety. Now, it was two taps to the cheek and a kiss.

An hour into patrol, Peters phone rang and lit up with your contact. He answered it but before he could say hello, you started speaking.

“Peter are you okay?” You wheezed, sounding frantic.

“I’m fine, honey.” He quickly assured you. “Are you okay?”

“Yea.” You sounded more relaxed. “Are you sure you’re okay? Where are you?”

“I’m on a rooftop near the bakery.” He answered. “Did something happen?”

“No.” You sighed. “I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.”

“I’m okay.” He confirmed. “I’ll be home soon.”

“Alright. I love you.” You said into the phone. “I love, love, love you.”

“Are you ready to watch the movie, honey?” Peter called from the living room. It was a few months now since you started living together and he had taken a night off from patrol to be with you.

“Almost. I’m just washing my hands.” You called back. A commercial playing in the background caught your attention and you shut the water off to listen.

“What did they say it treated?” You asked as you looked over your shoulder at the TV.

“BPH.” Pete answered, reading off the screen.

“Do I have that?” You wondered, making a Peter laugh. He looked back at you to see if you were kidding, but your face showed your we’re serious.

“BPH? No, lovey.” He shook his head. “That’s just for men. I think it’s when your prostate is enlarged. And in the words of Noah Puckerman, “chicks don’t have prostates”.”

“So I don’t have that?” You asked him again, as if you didn’t believe him.

“No. You don’t have that.” He answered, growing concerned.

“Okay.” You nodded and dried your hands. “Do you have that?”

“Um, I don’t think so.” Peter furrowed his eyebrows at the strange question.

“Okay.” You said again. “Just making sure.”

“Okay.” Peter eyed you curiously as the opening credits started to play. “Oo, it’s starting.”

“I love this movie.” You mumbled as you nuzzled into Peters side.

“Me too.” Peter smiled as he pulled you closer. “I’ve seen it like 3 times already.”

“I’ve seen it 13 times.” You said after a beat of silence, making Peters eyes widen.

“Really?” He asked. “You must really like it.”

“I like rewatching the same movies.” You said sheepishly.

“Why?”

“I like knowing the ending and whats gonna happen next.” You told him, looking at him to see if he thought it was weird. His face didn’t show any signs of disdain, so you relaxed.

You watched the movie in comfortable silence as time went on, never leaving each other’s sides.

“What time is it?” You asked as the movie neared it’s end.

“11:47 babe.” Peter answered when he checked his phone.

“I have to go to bed.” You said suddenly, getting up off the couch.

“The movies almost over, lovey.” Peter chuckled in confusion as you left his side. “Just 30 more minutes.”

“I know.” You chewed your lip nervously and twisted your fingers. “I just have to go to bed. I can’t really explain it.”

“Okay.” Peter nodded, still confused. “Good night.”

“Goodnight.” You bent down to kiss him before trotting off to bed. “Night, night, night.”

Peter was beginning to pick up on certain things. You needed it be in bed by 12, you often called him randomly to ask if he was okay, and you stayed away from odd numbers. He didn’t know what to chalk it up to, but he didn’t want to pry if you didn’t want to talk about it.

Peter caught you putting your caught on one morning as he was coming into the kitchen to get some breakfast.

“Where are you sneaking off to so early?” He asked through a yawn as he lazily kissed your lips.

“I forgot I have a doctors appointments today.” You pouted. “It’s in a few minutes.”

“Okay. Do you need me to drive you?” He offered.

“You don’t have to drive, but could you come with me?” You asked and he nodded.

“Of course. Let’s go.” Peter grabbed his keys and walked with you to the car.

You walked into the lobby where Peter had waited for you with a strange look on his face. Peter immediately stood up and met you halfway, feeling concerned when he saw your expression. He could sense something was off with you but he wasn’t sure what.

“Hey baby.” He rubbed your arms in comfort. “How was the appointment?”

“Um, fine.” You nodded hesitantly. “It was fine.”

“Just fine?” Peter asked. “Did the doctor say anything?”

“No.” You lied. “Nothing important.”

“Thats good.” Peter agreed, not fully convinced you were okay.

“Hey, when’s the last time you had a check up?” You wondered as you walked towards the car.

“Oh, I’m not sure.” Peter shrugged. “Less than a year ago.”

“You should probably get checked out. You know, to make sure you’re okay.” You told him as you buckled your seatbelt.

“Sure. I can schedule an appointment soon.” Peter nodded, still looking at you in confusion.

“Do you feel okay? Do you feel sick or anything?” You put your hand on his forehead while keeping your eyes on the road.

“No.” You said quickly. “I’m okay.”

You continued driving in silence as Peter wondered what was bothering you. You were nervously chewing your lip as you checked your rear view mirror every few seconds.

“Oh my God.” You gasped and looked behind you. “I have to turn around.”

“Why?” Peter turned around as well. “What’s wrong?”

“I might have hit someone.” You gulped and changed lanes so you could turn around. Peters jaw dropped a little, knowing full well that you hadn’t hit anyone.

“Lovey, you didn’t hit anyone.” He said slowly. “We would’ve felt it.”

“I know I didn’t.” You said in defeat. “I just need to check to make sure.”

“Okay.” Peter nodded, sensing something was wrong. “We can turn around.”

You turned around and passed by the street where you though you hit something. Nothing was there, so you kept driving. Peter kept hai eyes on you, notching the worried look on your face as you continued to check the mirror.

“Are you okay?” He asked you.

“I have to do it again.” You sighed. “I have to turn around.”

“You didn’t hit anyone. You’re a good driver, baby.” He said quietly as he put his hand on your knee.

“I know I didn’t hit anyone. I know that but I just…” You sighed in frustration and put your blinker on. “I just have to. I’m sorry. I have to turn around.”

“Okay.” Peter agreed, not taking his eyes off you. You drove past the spot again and kept going, but your expression didn’t change.

“Do you want to turn around again?” Peter asked gently, and hit tears fell down your cheeks.

“Yes.” You sputtered. “I have to do it again. I know I didn’t hit anyone but-“

“It’s okay.” Peter assured you. “We can turn around as many times as you want.”

You gave him an appreciative look before turning around again. You calmed down as you passed the spot and continued driving in silence.

“I’m sorry.” You said after a minute. “I know it’s weird. I know I’m weird. I can’t help it though.”

“You don’t have to apologize. And I don’t think it’s weird. I just don’t understand.” Peter spoke softly as he rubbed your knee. You looked at him quickly and chew your lip as you toyed with something in your mind.

“Peter, I have OCD.” You said weakly as you snuck glances at him. Peter’s eyebrows raised in surprise before settling back down into a look of confusion.

“Oh. You do?”

“That’s what the doctor just said.” You continued. “He said there are medications to treat it. I don’t know if I should take it. But I think I need some help.”

“I’m proud of you for telling me you need help.” Peter squeezed your knee. “I had no idea you had OCD. You don’t clean things all the time or like, straighten your pencils or anything.”

“That’s not - no.” You shook your head. “It’s not really like that. It can be for some people, but that’s not what mine is like. OCD is not always cleaning based. Mine is mostly instructive thoughts or repetitive behavior.”

“Oh.” Peter thought back on all your repetitive phrases and movements. “Oh.”

“Yeah.” You sighed and looked at him out of the corner of you eye to see his reaction.

“Is there anything I can do to help you?” He asked, much to your surprise.

“Could you just text me? I worry about you. Like, a lot.” You admitted. “I worry about if you’re okay or not all the time. Every time you go out on patrol, I put on this one movie. I feel like if I’m not watching the movie, you’re gonna die. I can’t explain it. I know you won’t die, but I can’t shake the feeling that you will. I just always worry about you.”

“I think I can help that.” Peter offered. “I can text you every half hour and make sure you know I’m safe.”

“Are you sure?” You asked as you pulled into your driveway. “That’s a lot to ask.”

“It’s okay.” Peter assured you. “Whatever I can do to make this easier, I’ll do it.”

You smiled fondly at Peter before leaning over the gear shift and kissing him, patting his cheek twice before pulling away.

“Thank you.” You whispered. “Thats exactly what I needed to hear.”

05/15/2021 DAB Transcript

1 Samuel 17:1-18:4, John 8:21-30, Psalm 111: 1-10, Proverbs 15:11

Today is the 15th day of May welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is a joy to be here with you today as we end a week. Another one of the weeks has gone by that we get to share together the voyage across the year. And I guess, sometime about halfway through today will be the dead center of the month as we continue the journey. The journey right now has us in 1 Samuel as we read through the Old Testament. And we are squarely planted in the life of Israel’s 1st king Saul. We’ve also met this young, good looking boy named David and today the whole story is gonna change. And David…I’ve said David’s life and Saul’s life were intertwined from the time they met but it’s gonna be much more apparent. And some of these behaviors that we’ve been examining throughout this week as we look at Saul, and they are the same kinds of behaviors in ourselves and in our culture, well they’re gonna be exasperated because this kid, this little shepherd boy named David is about to become a national hero. So, we’re reading from the Voice this week, which is today. 1 Samuel chapter 17 verse 1 through 18 verse 4.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We…we…we earnestly thank You with deepest gratitude for bringing us through this week and every week, every week that we’ve traveled to this point. That we are breathing is a gift and we acknowledge that, and we thank You for bringing us this far into this year. And, so, Holy Spirit as we continue the journey, the journeys that we’ve been on through all the different stories, but the journeys that we are currently on in the monarchy with Saul and David and as we continue to move through the final gospel of John and hear Your words Jesus for the last time, at least in this form, from the scriptures this year we are grateful. And, so, we end this week and release it to You with a heart of gratitude. We are thankful and we are open, and we ask Holy Spirit that You would plant what we’ve learned and what we’ve heard into the soil of our lives, that we would cultivate it, that it might yield fruit for Your kingdom. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hi DAB this is Eva from Colorado Springs and I’m just calling to lift up the families with sexual abuse and marriages that are just in crisis. And I…I’m just praying for the Holy Spirit to surround you and to bring healing into your lives and to just bring supernatural...the needs that you need in whatever specific situation you’re in. God is bigger than out situation and it’s…it’s hard to see that sometimes but I know that He is. He’s been in our family. My now, ex-husband, there’s a situation with him and one of my daughters and there’s a court situation coming up in July that two of my daughters and myself have to testify for and I pray that God’s hand would be in that and that justice would prevail, and God’s will would ultimately win and that my daughter would see that God does what is right and good and that God is over all of it. Thank you all for praying for me and for praying for each other in Jesus’ name.

Yes, I’d like to pray, I believe her name was Pathfinder, the lady that’s getting ready to see her mother. I just want to pray for you. Lord, I just pray that You’d be with her Lord God, that You would guide her, that You would put a watch over her mouth Father God. It is so easy for us to throw our opinions on other people, Father God. And I just pray that You would give her a time of peace with her mother, that all those things wouldn’t matter, opinions, likes, dislikes, Lord that they would just not matter at all during this time and that You would just heal this…this relationship Father God. We are so different, we are so selfish, and sometimes we want our way instead of Your way, Father. And I just pray that You would lead and direct her Lord, that she would see Your way in this situation. I pray Father Lord God, that You would just give her the ability to show her mother light and that light is You. And I just thank You Jesus for leading us and guiding our path and just ministering through us. In Jesus’ name.

Hi Daily Audio Bible I’m calling because I would like to thank the girl who prayed the other day for people who are coming out of this season of COVID and are watching so many people getting married and starting families and launching their lives and are still in the waiting and are still waiting on God. And as I was…that prayer was for me. I’m getting older…I’m…I’ve been newly single for 7 months now and I just cannot fight this desire that God’s placed on my heart. I was listening to the May 11th broadcast and today is actually the 12th but I listened to a lady who was going to visit her mother and I could so relate to everything she had to say. And I just wanted to tell you I lost my sweet mother the day after Mother’s Day May 10th just a couple days ago. And I flew down from my state of Michigan to Florida to be with her the week before she passed - 89. The day before she died on Mother’s Day, she…I was holding her cold hands and she said to me “I love you so much, I love you so much” and she had dementia and…but she had clarity and I can’t tell you how much that meant to me because I too struggled with my relationship. And I just want to encourage you and others out there, life is precious. My mother’s home with Jesus now and I have peace in my heart but spend…spend the time with your mother doing what you say. Olivia, I can’t remember…have I pressed submit on my first one. This is God’s Smile here. So, I’m gonna start all over again. Forgive me. I want to share with you about Peter and I. I was a young Christian and I’d just come to the Lord and I was very lonely, living alone and suicidal and I asked the Lord for somebody to love me. Little did I know that God’s love was there for me at that time. But he understood. I didn’t pray for a husband, but He gave me Peter. And Peter wasn’t a Christian. And as time go on and we got closer I became aware that I wanted him to be…to know Christ. And one night I was talking to the Lord and I said, “Father if I…I have to choose between you or Peter, it’s You I choose Lord above all else, it’s You. I want You in my life.” And I didn’t want to give Peter up. I wrote him a letter, I bought him a bible, and, in that letter, I told him I loved him and if he wasn’t in my life at some point then these were the verses to lead him to Christ. Well, I gave him this and Peter came to Lord very soon after and so did his mom. I believe in the surrender to Christ giving Peter up for…for God, that He released Peter to me. I don’t know what He’s going to do with you, but I believe if you surrender and listen to the wisdom of other callers, He will bless you and keep you and show you the way you should go. How I’ve been coping with all the shit that’s happening

If you read my last blog, some two million years ago when I wrote it, you’ll know I’d been toying with returning to my keyboard to share my thoughts and feelings once again.

Spoiler: I didn’t bother.

But now that we are hurtling balls deep into a pandemic, and all of my paid writing work is on indefinite hold, I decided I’d give it another whirl. Simply to give myself something to do that isn’t Netflix - or something worse that (old wives have it) might make me blind.

I thought perhaps I’d start afresh by sharing with you some of the things that I’ve been doing to help me cope with the current situation, just in case it could be useful for you, somehow.

While the pandemic is happening to all of us, quite how it’s affecting each person is completely different. Some people have tested positive for the virus. Some are scared about their own health, or the health of loved ones.

Some own small businesses that they’re frightened they’re set to lose. Others live with health anxiety and their hands are bleeding from chronic washing.

Personally, I’m a self employed person, 24 hours removed from learning that the government is going to help us with a grant of 80% of our past earnings. I write predominantly for two industries: the travel industry, and the entertainment industry. So you can imagine that things have been really uncertain.

As someone who lives with an anxiety disorder, I have been a flipping nightmare to live with. It’s good that I live by myself because that way it’s only me that wants to punch me in the gob.

I am a catastrophist through and through. I didn’t know that until my therapist read me to filth for it, but I’m glad that now I can see. For a while there, I was talking about how my life was ruined, that everything I’d built for 15 years had crumbled and how I was to be reduced to the person I was at 17 - scared, homeless and alone. Mix in a heaped cupful of curdled guilt for feeling sorry for myself when people were in much worse situations, and I was pulling my bastard hair out. I might be again tomorrow. But for today, while I’m feeling a little more hopeful, I wanted to at least take some time to talk about some of my coping mechanisms.

And so without further ado, for all of the two people that are still reading (hi guys!) here are the ten things that I’m doing to help myself.

Being in nature

I’m really lucky to live right next to a beautiful, well-managed nature reserve. Because the sun has been out, I’ve been taking my one, sanctioned walk of the day down there with the birds. Aside from one or two cyclists I’ve had to give a wide berth to, there’s been no humans around to sour my experience, and the sun on my face, fresh air in my lungs and the magical sound of birdsong has been salve on the gash wound that feels like my life. I fucking love birds, dude.

Only checking the news twice

Because I’m so prone to bouts of savage misery, I’ve had to really pare back the amount of news that I’ve been consuming. I check my news outlets of choice (I’d always recommend more than one source) only twice a day, in the morning after breakfast and in the early evening before dinner. I never slam myself into the day with bad news, and I always give myself a few hours after my “evening briefing” to just chill the heck out before bed.

Video calling

I think I’ve spoken to my friends more now we’re in a pandemic than I ever did before! Being ‘isolated’ is my normal state, living and working alone, so having the ones I love also being bored as hell has been really enjoyable for me! While none of us really has anything new to tell anyone else, just being able to laugh, to talk about how I’m feeling, and to hear about what they’re dealing with, has been a huge source of comfort. Which leads me to...

Being open with my feelings

Only when you tell people how you’re feeling can they truly help you. Communication, in any relationship, is the most important thing. No one knows what you need from them unless you’re saying it. And so I’ve been brutally honest with the people that I love, about my fears and worries. I’m pretty scared about getting sick, for example. If I’m bed bound, who will call 111? Or bring me a glass of water? Or help take my temperature? Who will bring me food if I’m stuck?! Well, I’ve expressed those horrible, real concerns to my pals, and now they’re all lining up, ready to push snacks through my letterbox or to leave shopping on my doorstep. If I didn’t tell them that, how would they know I needed them?

Curating my social media

The ‘unfollow’ and ‘mute’ buttons have changed everything for me here in a world where digital media is our only source of social interaction. Everyone’s coping in their own way, and for some, that means being super heckin’ negative on their social media platforms. I don’t judge them for it, but I don’t want to hear it either. Especially from someone I haven’t seen in 20 bloody years. So I’ve been deleting and muting left and right, logging off when things feel too... noisy.

Softening my face

This is going to sound like a ridiculous thing, but it’s something I tell myself all the time. Quite often I catch myself frowning, furrowing my brow, gritting my teeth, when I’m just sitting around trying to do things I like! I have to tell myself to soften my bloody face. I figure that if you at least pretend that you feel relaxed for a bit, act like a relaxed person, you’ll get some temporary relief from feeling so tense. Hopefully I’ll get into the habit of just fucking chilling out a bit for once.

Not being a jerk about food

I’m sitting around a lot so I should change how much I eat. But I’m bored so I want snacks. Then I feel guilty for snacking because I’m moving less... Ugh, I’m annoyed even seeing that written down. So for the next couple of weeks I’m going to stop being so annoyed with myself about how I’m eating. When I do my big shop, I try to buy in more fresh fruit and veg and less trash, but I’m taking some time to not be a jerk to myself about food. Loads of people online are freaking out about the idea of maybe getting fat during this time of self-isolation, as though being fat is the worst thing it’s possible to be. Don’t be a dickhead. We are going through a crisis, for god’s sake. Eat the cowing Pringles if you want them.

Not getting hung up on a schedule

The same goes for having a schedule. Being self-employed means I’m used to having to be strict on myself to get to sleep at a reasonable hour, to not sleep in past nine and to not nap in the daytime. But here in the pandemic times, I’m just going to let my body do whatever it wants to do and I’m not going to be a dick to myself about it. With luck, there’ll be plenty of time to stick to a schedule, now doesn’t have to be it.

Practicing 7/11 breathing

One of the most important techniques I learnt in my last round of cognitive behavioural therapy was 7/11 breathing. You breathe in for seven seconds and out for 11. If you feel super panicked, you can breathe in for five and out for eight. The idea is that you exhale for longer than you inhale. This is great if you’re on the verge of an anxiety attack, to try and gain some composure, but it’s something you have to practice because otherwise when it comes to the attack itself, you might struggle to get there. I haven’t had an attack in two months but, I practice my breathing all the time anyway. Just in case.

Not thinking ahead

This is easier said than done, but I’ve started to just live in my day and no further. It’s a hard realisation to accept, that no one in the world really knows what’s happening and that the humans in charge of telling us what we’re supposed to be doing are probably as bamboozled as we are. Acknowledging the uncertainty, and just taking each day at a time, is getting me through. When I’ll next need to do a big shop, what I’ll do when I’m out of toilet roll, how I’ll get back on my feet when all of this has blown over... that’s future Bozzers’ problem. The now Bozzers is just living in the moment, and that’s absolutely fine.

Blurbs:

104: Said subject matter, is common amidst Game, and why the populus fucking hates them. They come in, they genocide the residents, and take pleasure in tormenting the survivors. They're fucking rotten, vile, little beasts, so it's a damn good thing if you go out and slaughter a few.

And right now, Max is in the mood to do so. Unfortunately for Max, their tormenting is an entirely evolutionary mechanism. They're not human levels of intelligence, they're evil assholes, but it's entirely because if you can fuck with an Ender enough, they're /way/ less of a threat, because of the next point.

As stated earlier, if you just shock an Ender hard enough, be it through physical trauma, or mental distractions, you can knock them /out/ of Ignition, if not /all/ types of Burning, entirely. Max had it happen a few pages ago, it happened to him at the end of Chapter 4, and Max even did it to Sally back in chapter 3.

It sounds like it might be an obvious weakness to build in, and as a stereotypical shonen magic system, you might think it's not /too/ big of a deal, sure. But the reason this is such a problem for Enders is stuff like what happens to Max here.

Without his Ignition up? Yeah, all those impacts he took just now did their full damage. As stated by Papi, https://imgur.com/tobH4tA keeping your Burning up lets you dampen falls, to the point of avoiding any shock damage. That doesn't just apply to falls, since remember, it's not the fall that kills you.

105: And Max is realizing the gravity of the situation he's gotten himself in to. Nobody's gonna come and save him, unlike those times with CL and Sally. He's stuck here, and is probably going to die. But...

What's going on here? Where'd Game Face go? Where'd, /everything/ go? And those sparks in the gutters are back again.

Wait, what? "It's you?" Who the fuck are you talking to, Max? The only thing that could be in that smoke is-

106: Oh.

Okay, I'm writing these well after I've finished them, so for a bit of meta stuff, I'm surprised I had so many of these done already, at the time of writing. Anyway, yeah, that's the Scarlet Tiger. I could clarify if it's just a metaphor, or if Max has some sort of tiger god living him, but you can figure it out pretty easily, given how concretely I've laid out the rules, and adhered to them. That being said, it deliberately resembles Max in his boxing trunks, for a good reason. There's a bit here about Gienne and Max's past, and in turn why he's afraid of accepting this tiger, that you can probably piece together, (check page 89 again, if you can't.) And in a second, you're about to see why Max's so afraid of it.

107: Straight up, those are the lyrics to Devils Never Cry, and yes I'm synching the events of the comic up to it. I script a lot of scenes by listening to a specific song, that I think fits it, and imagining the events synched up to the music. And for this, the way that Devils Never Cry swells up with this gutteral growl of power, and sound of music, combined with the tone of the lyrics, I found it to be a perfect fit. If you listen to the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xti_6Bzpa8A you can see it for yourself, with the drop happening right as Max turns his gaze to Game Face. And yes, that also means the nonverbal organ part, was synched to Max on the ground, too.

108: And NOW we see why Max is so fucking terrified of using the Scarlet Tiger. If Overclock Remix looks familiar, that's because it should. As of writing, I still need to find some way to explain this in universe, but what Max is doing right here is called 「OVERHEAT」, and it's as dangerous as it sounds. Basically, if you remember the rules Sally laid out back in chapter 4, there's four general elements to Burning, itself. (Burning, Thrust, Ignition, Afterburn. Though I guess you could say "Burning" is too vague, and knock it down to 3.) 「OVERHEAT」 is blowing through your 「Fuel」 to activate all 4 elements at once. It's a supercharge, and wicked strong, but potentially lethal in a very short amount of time.

Oh, and yeah, regarding OC REMIX itself, part of how Max can even GET in this state involves hyping himself up, slipping back into his stage persona, and going crazy. So yes, he literally lunged at him and bit him so hard, he ripped off a quarter of Game Face, with his mouth.

109: Oh man, this one was a fun one. The dialogue was initially very basic, with Max just stating what was going on in a "crazy" way, but I wasn't satisfied with that, and I wanted something better. Cue using his stage persona, but in a warped manner, to convey something's wrong here. It's a bit of both, regarding if Max genuinely believes he's on stage right now, or if he's just being a dick. If he was sober, it'd only be the latter, but OC REMIX is a bit different. Also at this point, the Sonic influence for Max's character and design, should be pretty obvious.

Oh, and the white gutters are that for a reason. It's Max's Burning taking over so hard, that the core of it is encompassing the page.

110: "Prometheus Blade" is basically the in universe equivalent of, well, you can figure that out. Regardless, the ending lyrics have kicked in, as well as the 「Burning」in the gutter, receding, signaling the encroaching end of the chapter, with Max himself reminding himself that if he doesn't wrap this up soon, he's gonna die. But it just so happens that we've got a handy meat chipper, in the back corner of the freezer. And Max references Yujiro with that face, upon getting that devilish idea. Thankfully OC REMIX has just enough juice left in it, to slam that sucker straight in there...

111: Oh. Wait, shit, this is bad.

Regardless, this page was honestly really simple, but took me way longer due to IRL stuff. So it took a LOT longer than I wanted it to. Should've only taken a few days, but eh, I'm livin' and got it done. Now regarding the page itself, had some fun in panel 5. Initially it was pretty bland, with a lot of flat colors and just the five basic spiral stripes going towards Max's fist. But I jazzed that up some, and I think it looks pretty good. The shading there was accidental, as I only wanted it on panel 7, but liked how it wound up looking, anyway. And I'm for sure going to re use this technique later.

For the subject matter, here, I think you're starting to get both how much of a godmonster Max is, how even higher than that, Sally is, and how big of a deal Game Face is. And subsequently, just how big of a problem Game are. Despite how whacky and fun I've tried to make EG|WT up to this chapter, said chapter's entirety has been focused on slowly beginning to peel back the veneer of pleasantness, and show how there's definitely undertones of evil, malevolence, and overall "dark" tones, lurking beneath the surface of this comic.

Yeah there isn't much to say here at this point, other than if you compare the orange Max is using, to the actual orange he has, it's actually a bit lighter. That comes in to play a bit later, but it's a deliberate detail, albeit the gradient I added, and the compression, seem to have toned the paleness of it down, severely.

And for this page, that's the kanji for "Tiger" (Tora). If you need to know what Max is yelling there, it's just "TOHRYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" as in yes, he's just yelling "TIGERRRRRRRRRRR."

As for what's going on here, well, you can see for yourself. Max ran out of Burning, and so the rapid punching really did a number on him. That isn't Burning on his arms, it's blood. And his arms themselves are REALLY f'king mangled, from all this. Fortunately, the interlude is coming up, and Max's story is far from over.

Okay! I am a 17 year old male who has been driving in total for 2 years and I have unfortunately had 2 accidents. The first occurred in May of last year. I pulled out of a gas station trying to turn left so I had to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic ( I was in an unfamiliar vehicle) I could not see the lane closest to the middle and I went out further then I thought and the oncoming car took off the front bumper. The second accident occurred 04/14 I was driving to school and there was a man ahead of me who had his signal light on for the past 4 miles it was pouring down rain so I looked over to change lanes and when maybe I looked for to long I'm not sure but wheeI turned back the man had come to a complete stop in preparation to turn from a highway onto a dirt road. I slammed on my brakes they locked up I couldn't steer away and I hit him in the rear. My question is. Is this going to keep happening to me? Am I really that bad of a driver? and what insurance company is best for my situation as my parents are removing me from their policy. Any help would be appreciated!

Someone else hit my car while it was parked. It was very cut-and-dry. I got a police report, the officer talked to the driver. It states that my car was legally parked and the other driver is at fault. The damage is minor rear bumper damage, nothing too terrible. I filed with his insurance company, and after a lot of frustrating phone tag, an insurance adjuster came out and wrote me an estimate for $450. I had an adjustment for $734 from the local body shop for my make of car, and I showed it to him. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this estimate, and he said the body shop would settle with the insurance company directly for costs in excess of the estimate. $300 is a little much. Since it's minor damage, I think the body shop will probably take the money and do a shoddy job on the car. It's my understanding they are supposed to repair my car to pre-accident conditions. “Are you ready for bed?” Tom asked as he climbed under the covers on his side. It was your first night in Tom’s house after moving in with him, and you had a nervous feeling in your tummy. There were things about yourself you had begun to notice, and you wondered how long it would take for Tom to notice as well.

“Almost.” You nodded as you knocked on the wall behind you four times. You climbed into bed beside Tom as if nothing happened, leaving Tom puzzled.

“What are you doing?” Tom chuckled as he watched your movements.

“If I don’t do this, I can’t sleep.” You said simply.

“Okay.” Tom laughed again, making you grime a little.

“I know it doesn’t actually help me sleep.” You admitted. “I just need to do it.”

“Wow. I can’t wait to see all the other little quirks you’ve been hiding from me.” Tom smirked as he leaned over to kiss you.

“Yeah.” You laughed nervously. “Quirks.”

Tom woke up the next morning to the feeling of you playing with his hair.

“Good morning sleepy head.” You said through a yawn as you combed his hair off his face.

“Good morning to you too. Are you hungry?” Tom asked as he rubbed your shoulders.

“Um, what time is it?” You sleepily rubbed your eyes.

“111:23” He answered after checking his phone.

“I’m okay.” You decided, despite your stomach growling. “I’ll wait until lunch.”

“Are you sure?” Tom noticed the growl. “I can make you something.”

“I’m sure. Sure, sure, sure.” You told him. “I’ll wait until lunch.”

Once the clock hit an even number, it was lunchtime. You walked into the kitchen at 2:24 feelings famished.

“God I’m hungry.” You patted your stomach. “Do you have anything to eat?”

“Let’s see.” Tom said as he opened his cabinet. “I have honey and boxed Mac and cheese.”

“Ooo. This a fancy restaurant.” You teased as you hugged him from behind.

“Shut up.” He laughed and turned around in your arms. “I haven’t gone shopping in a while.”

“It’s fine. We’ll go tomorrow.” You told him before kissing him. You broke away from him and took out the macaroni while he got out a pot and filled it with water.

“Here you are, my love.” Tom carried the heavy pot with ease and placed it on the stove.

“Thank you. How long does the box say to boil it for?” You asked as you turned the heat up on the stove.

“11-13 minutes.” Tom read off the back of the box.

“Okay.” You nodded as you set the timer to 12 minutes. “Okay, okay, okay.”

“So precise.” Tom joked, making your face flush.

“Yup.” You forced a laugh and kept your tone light. “I just like to be precise. I definitely don’t feel like I can’t eat the macaroni unless it cooks for exactly 12 minutes.”

“What was that?” Tom asked curiously when he didn’t understand what you said.

“Nothing.” You looked over your shoulder and smiled at him. “It’ll be ready soon.”

A month later, Tom walked into his bathroom to brush his teeth. You were already in there, leaning close to the mirror and pressing on all your teeth.

“What are you doing?” Tom chuckled as he wrapped his arms around your waist from behind.

“I need you to check my teeth.” You turned around in his arms with a panicked expression.

“For food?” He asked and looked at your teeth. “They’re all good.”

“No, for any loose ones.” You told him and he let out a short laugh.

“Why would your teeth be loose?” He raised an eyebrow, thinking you were kidding.

“They’re not. I know they’re not.” You said, mostly to yourself. “Could you just confirm for me that they’re not?”

Tom found the request strange, but obliged and pressed on your teeth the way you had.

“All good.” He confirmed. “Nothing loose.”

You sighed in relief and turned around again, leaving Tom curious about the encounter. He shrugged it off and walked back into the bedroom, throwing on his jacket as you finished up in the bathroom.

“You’re going out?” You asked from the doorway when you noticed Tom in his jacket.

“Yeah. I shouldn’t be too long.” He promised. “I just need to run to the store. I’ll be back before you’re asleep.”

“Will you be back before 12?” You asked as you tugged on your earlobe.

“Yeah, I will.” He told you as he placed his hands on your waist.

“Okay. I’ll see you then.” You smiled at Tom as you patted his cheek twice before kissing him. You did this every time Tom was about to leave the house. Before you were a couple, he’d text you before he would go out so you could flex your hand three times to ensure his safety. Now, it was two taps to the cheek and a kiss.

A few minutes after Tom pulled out of the driveway, his phone rang and lit up with your contact. He answered it but before he could say hello, you started speaking.

“Tom, are you okay?” You wheezed, sounding frantic.

“I’m fine, honey.” He quickly assured you. “Are you okay?”

“Yea.” You sounded more relaxed. “Are you sure you’re okay? Where are you?”

“I’m near the bakery.” He answered. “Did something happen?”

“No.” You sighed. “I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.”

“I’m okay.” He confirmed. “I’ll be home soon.”

“Alright. I love you.” You said into the phone. “I love, love, love you.”

“Are you ready to watch the movie, honey?” Tom called from the living room. It was a few months now since you started living together and he had taken a night off from work to be with you.

“Almost. I’m just washing my hands.” You called back. A commercial playing in the background caught your attention and you shut the water off to listen.

“What did they say it treated?” You asked as you looked over your shoulder at the TV.

“BPH.” Tom answered, reading off the screen.

“Do I have that?” You wondered, making Tom laugh. He looked back at you to see if you were kidding, but your face showed your we’re serious.

“BPH? No, lovey.” He shook his head. “That’s just for men. I think it’s when your prostate in enlarged. And in the words of Noah Puckerman, “chicks don’t have prostates”.”

“So I don’t have that?” You asked him again, as if you didn’t believe him.

“No. You don’t have that.” He answered, growing concerned.

“Okay.” You nodded and dried your hands. “Do you have that?”

“Um, I don’t think so.” Tom furrowed his eyebrows at the strange question.

“Okay.” You said again. “Just making sure.”

“Okay.” Tom eyed you curiously as the opening credits started to play. “Oo, it’s starting.”

“I love this movie.” You mumbled as you nuzzled into Tom’s side.

“Me too.” Tom smiled as he pulled you closer. “I’ve seen it like 3 times already.”

“I’ve seen it 13 times.” You said after a beat of silence, making Tom’s eyes widen.

“Really?” He asked. “You must really like it.”

“I like rewatching the same movies.” You said sheepishly.

“Why?”

“I like knowing the ending and whats gonna happen next.” You told him, looking at him to see if he thought it was weird. His face didn’t show any signs of disdain, so you relaxed.

You watched the movie in comfortable silence as time went on, never leaving each other’s sides.

“What time is it?” You asked as the movie neared it’s end.

“11:47 babe.” Tom answered when he checked his phone.

“I have to go to bed.” You said suddenly, getting up off the couch.

“The movies almost over, lovey.” Tom chuckled in confusion as you left his side. “Just 30 more minutes.”

“I know.” You chewed your lip nervously and twisted your fingers. “I just have to go to bed. I can’t really explain it.”

“Okay.” Tom nodded, still confused. “Good night.”

“Goodnight.” You bent down to kiss him before trotting off to bed. “Night, night, night.”

Tom was beginning to pick up on certain things. You needed it be in bed by 12, you often called him randomly to ask if he was okay, and you stayed away from odd numbers. He didn’t know what to chalk it up to, but he didn’t want to pry if you didn’t want to talk about it.

Tom caught you putting your caught on one morning as he was coming into the kitchen to get some breakfast.

“Where are you sneaking off to so early?” He asked through a yawn as he lazily kissed your lips.

“I forgot I have a doctors appointments today.” You pouted. “It’s in a few minutes.”

“Okay. Do you need me to drive you?” He offered.

“You don’t have to drive, but could you come with me?” You asked and he nodded.

“Of course. Let’s go.” Tom grabbed his keys and walked with you to the car.

You walked into the lobby where Tom had waited for you with a strange look on his face. Tom immediately stood up and met you halfway, feeling concerned when he saw your expression. He could sense something was off with you but he wasn’t sure what.

“Hey darling.” He rubbed your arms in comfort. “How was the appointment?”

“Um, fine.” You nodded hesitantly. “It was fine.”

“Just fine?” Tom asked. “Did the doctor say anything?”

“No.” You lied. “Nothing important.”

“Thats good.” Tom agreed, not fully convinced you were okay.

“Hey, when’s the last time you had a check up?” You wondered as you walked towards the car.

“Oh, I’m not sure.” Tom shrugged. “Less than a year ago.”

“You should probably get checked out. You know, to make sure you’re okay.” You told him as you buckled your seatbelt.

“Sure. I can schedule an appointment soon.” Tom nodded, still looking at you in confusion.

“Do you feel okay? Do you feel sick or anything?” You put your hand on his forehead while keeping your eyes on the road.

“No.” You said quickly. “I’m okay.”

You continued driving in silence as Tom wondered what was bothering you. You were nervously chewing your lip as you checked your rear view mirror every few seconds.

“Oh my God.” You gasped and looked behind you. “I have to turn around.”

“Why?” Tom turned around as well. “What’s wrong?”

“I might have hit someone.” You gulped and changed lanes so you could turn around. Tom jaw dropped a little, knowing full well that you hadn’t hit anyone.

“Lovey, you didn’t hit anyone.” He said slowly. “We would’ve felt it.”

“I know I didn’t.” You said in defeat. “I just need to check to make sure.”

“Okay.” Tom nodded, sensing something was wrong. “We can turn around.”

You turned around and passed by the street where you though you hit something. Nothing was there, so you kept driving. Tom kept his eyes on you, notching the worried look on your face as you continued to check the mirror.

“Are you okay?” He asked you.

“I have to do it again.” You sighed. “I have to turn around.”

“You didn’t hit anyone. You’re a good driver, baby.” He said quietly as he put his hand on your knee.

“I know I didn’t hit anyone. I know that but I just…” You sighed in frustration and put your blinker on. “I just have to. I’m sorry. I have to turn around.”

“Okay.” Tom agreed, not taking his eyes off you. You drove past the spot again and kept going, but your expression didn’t change.

“Do you want to turn around again?” Tom asked gently, and hit tears fell down your cheeks.

“Yes.” You sputtered. “I have to do it again. I know I didn’t hit anyone but-“

“It’s okay.” Tom assured you. “We can turn around as many times as you want.”

You gave him an appreciative look before turning around again. You calmed down as you passed the spot and continued driving in silence.

“I’m sorry.” You said after a minute. “I know it’s weird. I know I’m weird. I can’t help it though.”

“You don’t have to apologize. And I don’t think it’s weird. I just don’t understand.” Tom spoke softly as he rubbed your knee. You looked at him quickly and chew your lip as you toyed with something in your mind.

“Tom, I have OCD.” You said weakly as you snuck glances at him. Tom’s eyebrows raised in surprise before settling back down into a look of confusion.

“Oh. You do?”

“That’s what the doctor just said.” You continued. “He wants me to start medication but I’m not sure. I think I might need some help.”

“I’m proud of you for telling me you need help.” Tom squeezed your knee. “I had no idea you had OCD. You don’t clean things all the time or like, straighten your pencils or anything.”

“That’s not - no.” You shook your head. “It’s not really like that. It can be for some people, but that’s not what mine is like. OCD is not always cleaning bases. Mine is mostly instructive thoughts or repetitive behavior.”

“Oh.” Tom thought back on all your repetitive phrases and movements. “Oh.”

“Yeah.” You sighed and looked at him out of the corner of you eye to see his reaction.

“Is there anything I can do to help you?” He asked, much to your surprise.

“Could you just text me? I worry about you. Like, a lot.” You admitted. “I worry about if you’re okay or not all the time. Every time you go out of the house, I put on this one movie. I feel like if I’m not watching the movie, you’re gonna die. I can’t explain it. I know you won’t die, but I can’t shake the feeling that you will. I just always worry about you.”

“I think I can help that.” Tom offered. “I can text you every half hour and make sure you know I’m safe.”

“Are you sure?” You asked as you pulled into your driveway. “That’s a lot to ask.”

“It’s okay.” Tom assured you. “Whatever I can do to make this easier, I’ll do it.”

You smiled fondly at Tom before leaning over the gear shift and kissing him, patting his cheek twice before pulling away.

“Thank you.” You whispered. “Thats exactly what I needed to hear.”
