As you, Choso, and Yuji make a last stand against Sukuna, you feel the anguish of your love leaving you behind. Loosely inspired by Mitski’s “Once More to See You”

[In the rearview mirror I saw the setting sun on your neck/ And felt the taste of you bubble up inside me/ But with everybody watching us, our every move, we do have reputations/ We keep it secret, won't let them have it]

You never thought it would come to this. You stood across from Sukuna, Yuji and Choso by your side. With the way the King of Curses was staring you down with all of his eyes, you knew he was about to release a completely devastating cursed technique. You so desperately wanted to shield Yuji from all the pain and suffering he’d been through, yet he was standing tall on the battlefield, undeterred by the notion of possibly dying (another) horrendous death. You also, selfishly, wanted to reach out and grasp Choso’s hand to feel the flesh of your secret lover for what was probably going to be the last time.

It wasn’t that you and Choso had meant to keep your relationship as quiet as you did, it was just that your timing was remarkably bleak. Kenjaku had been running rampant when you two first found solace in each other’s arms. You had lots of free time to get to know each other while protecting Tengen and since then, you’d forged an unbreakable bond that eventually turned romantic and the rest was history. You both did have reputations to keep, however. Choso was supposed to be a fearless half curse, while you were revered for your strong technique and cursed energy control. Neither of you wanted to show your enemies that you had a weakness for each other so staying on the down low with your secret caresses and stolen kisses under the moonlight was the way you were content spending your time with him. In a way, it was nice to have this one thing between you that wouldn’t have the stain of Sukuna or whoever else was threatening your safety at the time. There was no gossip or teasing from your teammates and no one was able to suggest that either of you wouldn’t be able to keep a level head while fighting together. You liked the simplicity of it all, though it was terrible when you needed the comfort of each other but people were around. Despite the few setbacks the parameters of your relationship had, you were grateful to be able to share in Choso’s bountiful love no matter how it presented itself.

Before you could create a domain or use your own cursed technique, you saw Sukuna move his hands to unleash his newest creation. You braced yourself for the death that was to come to you, closing your eyes in hopes of it hurting less if it came as a surprise. You were confused when you felt a new sensation of heat consuming all of your senses except one—touch. You opened your eyes to see flames barreling all around you, but being stopped by—

No.

He couldn’t.

He can’t.

He is.

Choso had enveloped the two people he loved the most in a blood barrier to stop them from succumbing to Sukuna. Your eyes refused to believe that what they were witnessing was real. You and Yuji were totally unharmed, yet Choso was withering away by the second. It was utterly macabre the way the skin you used to savor the feel of against your own was now melting off the bones of the man whose heart you were privileged enough to lay claim to. You wanted to look away and not have the image of Choso dying seared in your brain as the last moments you had with him, but you couldn’t break your horrified gaze away from his resolute one.

Without warning, you were transported to a whole other scene. Gone was Sukuna and his fiery destruction, and in its place was a green, grassy field filled with wildflowers and trees. A red and white gingham picnic blanket was under your body as you lounged next to an open wicker basket and familiar brown eyes peered into your own from the space across from you.

“Y/n.”

Choso’s voice was soft, raising goosebumps all over your skin. His fingers stretched to your face and your eyelids fluttered closed at his touch. He gently traced the pads of his fingers across your cheek and down your jaw. When you opened your eyes again, the sun was shining brightly behind him, illuminating his figure in a way that could only be described as angelic.

“Please don’t go,” you whispered.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t be better to you. I’m sorry we had to hide all this time. I’ll find you in my next life, and the one after that. Take care of Yuji for me, will you?”

Choso’s lips spread into the boyish smile you loved. You were unsure as to how much time you had here with him so you nodded in agreement and threw yourself into his arms. He gripped you tight, keeping a hand on the back of your head to hold you as close as possible. His nose found a home on the top of your head, resting there for a few seconds before he gingerly placed a kiss there.

“I have to go. My brothers are calling me,” he said, pulling away from you but keeping his hands on your shoulders.

“Is there nothing I can do to change this?” you asked, tears falling freely. Choso felt himself begin to cry as well, leaving glistening trails down his face.

“This is my duty as a big brother and a boyfriend. Maybe as a husband, in another life.” You saw a pink dusting across his face at the mention of marriage. Yeah, you definitely would’ve married Choso.

“I’m lucky to have met such a caring, selfless man like you. When I look at the stars from now on, I’ll know none of them shine as brightly as you did. I love you.”

Choso leaned in and gave you one last kiss. It was soft but passionate, just like him. When you broke apart, he laid his forehead against your own.

“I love you too. Stand strong for me, okay?”

“Okay,” you replied, reaching to hold his hand one last time, but the mirage was gone and you were back in your hellish reality.

“Thank you, Yuji, for becoming my brother. Thank you, y/n, for becoming my heart.”

“Thank you for everything, Choso.” You were able to squeeze out that final sentence from your lungs that held a tightness you didn’t know was humanly possible.

“Thank you… big brother,” Yuji sniffled, disbelief turning into unfathomable grief as the last of Choso disappeared into ash blowing away in the breeze. The blood barrier dissolved away from you two, leaving you alone with the fact that you just experienced the most traumatic moment of your lives and didn’t even have time to process it. It was eerily quiet now that Sukuna’s technique was done and Choso was dead. You felt empty, like all of the blood was drained out from your veins when Choso left you. Your heart ached as you yearned for the love you had just lost. No one would ever compare to the man who sacrificed himself for the sake of his younger brother and secret partner. You didn’t know what to do next, and neither did Yuji, apparent in the way you both stood, dumbfounded.

“It’s up to me to take care of you now,” you said, finally able to croak out some words from your dry throat.

“He loved you, you know,” Yuji said after a few beats of silence.

You released a slow, shuddering breath. “I know.”

More silence.

“He loved you too, Yuji.”

“I know.”

You didn’t know what else to say. There was nothing that could make this situation any more fathomable or digestible. You had to break out of your stupor before Sukuna recovered and killed you both. There was no way you were dying or allowing Yuji to get hurt any more, not after Choso died to make sure that didn’t happen. You had to push down the ache in your chest. You could mourn Choso later.

You were going to kill Sukuna.

security* • fem!oc An ex-princess forced to hide and fight for her life, Astra is now on the run with a Mandalorian and a foundling, trying to protect the three of them from the threat of death that creeps around every corner accompanied by a tracking fob. ↳ This series will always be special to me for so many reasons, but mainly because it was the first Din Djarin story I ever wrote. Din and Astra have such a beautiful relationship that I've loved developing over the years. This story is also like a time capsule, as it's constantly being added to the more they create new Mandalorian content. It's very nostalgic to go back and see how my writing has improved over the years through this story alone.

bloodlust* completed • fem!reader A daring favor from Boba Fett sends you and Din undercover together—as a married couple. When tensions rise and mysteries unravel, you’re left to determine what’s real from what’s not before your time runs out. ↳ I truly didn't expect to love this story as much as I did when I started writing it, but I had a ton of fun with this one. It really brings out a very honest yet sensual depiction of Din's character that was really fun to explore. It also allowed me to give him a modern twist without taking Din outside of the Star Wars universe.

DIN DJARIN ONE-SHOTS

ni ceta par gar (i kneel for you)* • reader When Mando needs emotional release, you seek to fulfill your pining by offering something neither one of you can resist—something that could change everything. ↳ Anyone who knows me knows I'm not really a spicy gal, but this story was a fun experiment that turned into something I honestly loved. I adore the way Din behaves in this story, especially in the latter half. It's got a really nice balance between angst, spice, fluff, and hurt/comfort.

united we fall • reader Din’s unable to control the Darksaber and accidentally hurts you with it, leaving behind a deep scar on your body and his mind. ↳ This story was my first response to Din returning in TBOBF, and as an angst girlie, I eat this kind of hurt/comfort right up. It was heartbreaking to depict what Din would have done in this situation, but the comfort he receives is a perfect balm. I come back to this one a lot, and with each new one-shot, I try to recreate whatever energy I created here.

love me louder • reader Your secret romance with the Mandalorian is put at risk when you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. ↳ Forbidden/secret romances are gonna do it for me every time, and it was so fun to bring one to life in this one-shot. Protective Din is my favorite, so to depict that along with the reader character's own strength and reassurance was a really fun balance. I just live for the high-stakes moment in this one.

doomsday • reader You and Din are interrogated by Moff Gideon, who has quickly realized you’re the best weapon he has to use against the Mandalorian. ↳ Like I mentioned earlier, I'm an angst girlie, especially with a hefty dose of hurt/comfort when I can. There's not a ton of physical comfort here, but the emotional comfort throughout the torture was delicious to bring to life. This one is a true testament to what I think Din's strength, mentally and physically, would be in a situation like this.

HUNTER SERIES

senator’s shadow • fem!reader Clone Force 99 is assigned as your protection when you embark on a risky diplomatic mission, and a certain sergeant starts to get protective of you. ↳ Besides the fact that this is my only Hunter series so far (with at least two more coming soon!), this story has been really special to me as of late. It's helped me to bring multiple personalities to life in a way that I think and hope is faithful and accurate, and it also has a delicious tension in its main relationship that's been super fun to develop.

HUNTER ONE-SHOTS

borrowed time • reader You can’t stop staring at Hunter during a mission, and little do you know just how distracting it is for both him and you. ↳ If you know, you know. This one was born out of a single idea that I told myself I had to sit down and write right away, and that's exactly what happened. It's a simple concept, but that payoff at the end is just... probably one of my most intense kissing scenes I've ever written!

at victory’s end• reader You help Hunter to recover from the lasting effects of Hemlock’s torture on Tantiss. ↳ This was my response to the series finale, and for anyone who, like me, yearned to comfort him after those intense events, this one really hits. I do wish I could have expanded it more, but I'm still satisfied with the end result. Seeing Hunter go right into protector mode after he recovers is very on-brand.

in peace, there is love• reader Months after Tantiss in the peacefulness of Pabu, you find it impossible to ignore the feelings you’ve always had for Hunter. ↳ After making characters go through a lot of angst and hurt/comfort, this was a really sweet thing to explore. I especially had a wonderful time describing what Hunter would look like in the height of their retirement era. I hope it's just the first of many retired-Hunter-on-Pabu stories that I'll write.

Over time, you become more than just a crew member. ↳ This series is the reason why I made this blog and started writing for this fandom. It will always have a special place in my heart because of that. This one truly helped to set the standard for classic Din x reader tropes during/just after season 1 premiered. It's a beautiful, heartfelt ride.

the lovely moons* • blind!reader → @vercopaanir Din buys your freedom and saves your from servitude to instead take you in as a paid crew member. As you help him with the child, you become much closer, your fates now intertwined. ↳ This story reads like a book. Din is very accurately characterized, and there's both faithfulness to canon and some new compelling adventures with high stakes. This one really has it all: incredible writing, heart-stopping action, and a sweet, sweet romance at the heart of it all.

DIN DJARIN ONE-SHOTS

protector • fem!reader → @aerynwrites When the ship is attacked unexpectedly, Din does everything he can to protect you, but you both end up being taken. When they suggest torturing you, Din offers to get tortured instead to save you. ↳ I said it before and I'll say it again: I eat these kinds of angsty hurt/comfort stories UP! This is one of the first I remember reading, and clearly, it's made a massive impact on me. I think about this one all the time. It's such a classic that I revisit time and time again.

HUNTER SERIES

what is this feeling • fem!reader → @masterjedilenawrites You grow close to Hunter when he and the squad are residing with you and protecting your home, but the time comes for them to leave. Misunderstandings lead to jealousy until you're forced to confess how you feel about him. ↳ This Hunter story lives in my mind rent-free all the time. I've already re-read it a few times and I only discovered it a few months ago. This has not only wonderful characterizations of the entire squad, but also just a super sweet and meaningful romance at the center of the story, even when you're yelling at them for not understanding one another.

Danny Phantom Headcanons/World Building (Masterpost)

So I rewatched Danny Phantom within the last week (of the time of creating this) and forgot how much I love it. I'm falling back down the rabbit hole and have started to collect my own HC/world building. This is just a collection of me putting ideas together that my brain was rattling off while watching and a few wiki deep dives. This will probably change as I get more into things and read more fanon. But like. This isn't canon stuff at all and is meant more as a base of operations for any fics I'm gonna write for AO3/drabbles for Tumblr.

I was into DP as a kid but was never into the fanbase and online spaces. So some of this is from me as a kid/teenager interpreting the show on my own. And sorry if it contradicts canon or is similar to what other people have said before. Genuinely most of this is from me as a kid or just me rewatching the show. I've noticed some of the things I already was thinking about in fics or in a few posts I've seen floating around.

Danny specific

Danny did die in The Accident, but was practically zapped back to life at the same time due to the Ghost Zone choosing him. It rewrote his DNA, so he was still a functioning human but with Ghost DNA. Unlike Vlad, whose DNA was just rewritten since he was hit with a pure blast of eco-energy. So think of it as like dying in the hospital but automatically being resuscitated but the resuscitation alters your DNA.

Danny doesn't need to sleep or eat a lot of human food often if he doesn't exhaust his human form. Human functions only apply to his human half, so if he stays in his Ghost half then he will not get tired or hungry in that form. But when he transforms back, he will feel it and need to eat or sleep off what he's done as a human.

He needs to consume/absorb ectoplasm just as much as he needs to eat food. It is more of a balance in his system between Ghost and human. So he will eat ectoplasm (normally while in ghost form but he will do it in his human form since it doesn't matter which form, unlike human food).

Danny's Haunt is Amity Park (see Ghost Haunts)

He is the Ghost Zone's core, as he was chosen by the Ghost Zone (see Ghost Cores).

His own core is an ice core.

Jazz and Danny are very close from a young age since their parents are more or less absent. She raises Danny practically, and once he gets into high school and The Accident happens he drifts because of the secret. This is why Jazz throws herself into psychology.

Danny gained Jazz's music taste over the years from exposure, so he likes different genres and doesn't really have a favorite. Jazz recently has an emo phase before The Accident, so he currently enjoys rock, alt rock, and general alt music ATM. He likes pop because that's the genre his peers are into (like Ember). He's never really had a big opinion about music, so he just listens to what is around him

Out of some of the alt rock bands, he listens to what's popular. Jazz showed him Fall Out Boy and Set It Off first to ease him into it, and he likes them.

Danny's ghostly tied item is a small rocket ship toy his parents bought him (see Ghostly tied items. Also called Ghost objects)

Danny is a trans man, but in Reality Trip he may have changed this. I might expand on this, but as a trans person I automatically saw the opportunity and after that we see him without a shirt so I made jokes about how he changed himself to be cis.

I also see him as bisexual, female preference. But he doesn't really think it's important to label his sexuality and has only really had three crushes and he's 14 when he realizes it because he gets a crush on a random guy for two seconds then moves on. He's 14 he doesn't need to have it figured out, y'know? I didn't when I was his age so it doesn't actually matter to him. He just knows he's fruity

Danny has nightmares. Bad nightmares. Nightmares of being dissected by his parents, Amity Park mobbing him for a witch hunt, his friends dying, of Dan (TUE evil Danny will be referred to as Dan) coming back. Stuff like that.

Danny is touch starved from an absent parent childhood. Don't get him wrong, they were there and showed him love and they're so proud of him. But they weren't... there. Y'know? They would give him hugs here and there but he doesn't have positive physical contact memories. So whenever his friends hug him he loves it. When they hold hands he loves it.

Danny and Tucker are close. In the way that when they were younger they'd take naps next to each other. They're platonic and people thought they were dating in middle school before Sam joined them. Sam wasn't always goth and was more opened up in middle school. But 8th grade hit and she saw Jazz go into her emo phase and she found goth and that scene understood how she felt inside (insert Sam's trauma from being in a picture perfect family and the pressure coupled up with her parents controlling her every move. And she just doesn't like pink and light colored stuff y'know). Sam also enjoys the contact, but only from her friends and mom. She loves her mom. I got off topic, but she would never actually use the photo against them. Besides, she partook in the sleep pile and still does. They just never talk about it.

He's called Daniel (aka full named) by Vlad and Lancer because it's them genuinely respecting his identity. Lancer did it to reinforce the name. The town is actually very pro-trans and accepted Danny with ease. But some people still messed up, y'know. So Lancer does his best (he cares deeply about his students)

Talking about Lancer; he noticed Danny's changes in behavior. After Danny spent a few days in the hospital for The Accident, Danny changed. He is constantly worried for Danny.

Dash and the popular kids also noticed and let up for a bit and did feel bad for him. On days he's visibly not feeling good, they don't bully him. They're not heartless. Just bullies.

The class knows he was in an ecto based accident, so they think that's why he's a bit weird and the ghosts are attracted to him. Even if others don't believe it, they just go along with it for the sake of Danny

Danny is also the Ghost King. After defeating Pariah Dark, the recrowning process starts and months later he ends up being King. Clockwork hints that this was planned from before he was born since he knows how time will go. Clockwork had made sure he got to this point.

Danny begrudgingly became king and is actually quite happy with it. The ghosts treat him slightly better and they've come to a mutual understanding with Danny.

Danny really likes space and he has a collection of space books and rocket ship models. He's been to Cape Canaveral multiple times with his family and he used to spend nights on his roof with Jazz looking at constellations. That's why when they went to camp that Sam made them watch the stars. She knew that he wanted to be an astronaut and admired the stars

Danny's ghostly obsession is protection (see Ghostly obsessions). Since he is half ghost, he isn't always having to obey his ghostly obsession. But he doesn't have a say in it. Some days he is strongly attached to it, when something triggers it or it's just one of those days. Then sometimes he has almost no connection to it. It's why sometimes he would rather not deal with everything and wants to give up his powers (or doesn't care) then turns around and is over protective. But in the end, it's protection because his subconscious recognizes he should have been protected from the accident and that no one looked after him to stop it.

Danny also never gets sick. If something's up, it's ghost related.

Being Ghost King means that he is one of the most powerful ghosts. He just is too young and inexperienced to understand and be able to use his power. We already know Dan was the most powerful, so its possible.

Have I mentioned that he is begrudgingly King, so whenever he is interrupted in his daily life for King duties, he is openly annoyed.

The ghosts fetching him will overshadow his classmates to talk to him, or Sam and Tucker, since he made it clear his human life cannot cross paths. They respect their king so after the first time of him enforcing it they just stuck to overshadowing.

Danny is 100% repelled by blood blossoms as a ghost and is only allergic as human. He will sneeze if he smells them, get rashes and hives if he touches them. If he ingests small amounts he will just get sick and poisoned, throat will swell slightly and tongue goes numb. He may have bad stomach problems. But if he eats a lot it can possibly send him into anaphylactic shock. (I have more on blood blossoms later)

Danny does have gnarly scarring on his chest and back from the Accident. It disappears into his skin as a ghost, since ghosts seem to not show injuries or death related scars on them. But as a human they're raised; some parts pink and some white. They spiderweb across his chest and back, blossoming out of his right (our left) side. He has some on the back of his neck and there's a few underneath his hair (which is thick enough to cover). There's a few scarring on his arms and hands, but they're small enough to not be noticed.

His eyes used to be fully blue, like an icey lighter blue with dark blue edges, but around the edges are little spikes of green that you can't see unless you're close and looking into them. Dash noticed it one day when he pushed Danny against a wall and commented on it. Danny called him a weirdo for looking into his eyes enough to notice.

He will get phantom pains randomly in his chest. They're from his organs being damaged from the Accident and his core sits near where his heart is when he's a ghost, so if his core is hurt then his heart aches. Vice versa.

Danny's death was horrible and every once in a while he gets flashes of it. His ghost and human half will try to fully take over and he will have the feeling shoot through him and he kinda jolts. His eyes will change slightly, just a moment of flickering.

Danny always has a pull or need to go into the Ghost Zone. It's like his DNA is calling to go home and absorb the natural energy. It is also because he is the core of the Ghost Zone (will be explained later)

I feel like Danny would have trust issues and PTSD. He'd hate sudden loud noises and sudden blinding light. It will shake him to the core because of the accident. He doesn't like thunder and lightning (the type that lights up the room and is really close and blinding. Not the distant little line in the sky ones)

I feel like he would also not have a good sense of self identity. He would feel alienated from humans AND ghosts because of how Ghosts don't treat him like normal, and how humans just aren't the same anymore and the ones who know treat him differently. Even if the ones who don't know, he just can't fully relate anymore. He also can't be close to the only two (technically) who can relate since Dani isn't around and he doesn't trust Vlad. Makes him uneasy and feel like shit constantly. (Also the fact that he doesn't feel like a guy fully and can't relate to girls anymore but has the lingering connection. Y'know, trans stuff).

Human world

A lot of this is set Post-S2 and Pre-Phanton Planet and most of S3, so Vlad is mayor but no one besides Sam, Tucker, and Jazz know for (canon) humans. Thought I'd give a timeline.

The town LOVES Phantom. After a year or two of him openly saving people, they treat him differently. The Fentons still don't like him but barely tolerate him. They'll try to capture him still and want to dissect him.

The town as a whole think the Fentons are crackjobs that shouldn't have the funding they do, but if they're managing ghost levels with Phantom then they're okay to stay. They also acknowledge that as destructive as the two parents are, they do actually help and know what they're doing

There's different types of ghost hunters in the world; theology based and science based. It depends what region you're from and your roots.

There are people like the Fentons, Men in White, and the various others we see who are science based and somewhat understand very basic ghost biology and rules because they studied it and went to school for it (or have scientist families).

Then there's theology based hunters (who would best be compared to the Winchesters in SPN) who come from lines of old school hunters. The theology hunters are just as valid because their system works (salt and iron work, holy water depends on the type). But the scientific world laughs at them because they're seen as archaic and outdated.

Blood blossoms were bred centuries ago by the original theology hunters. The legend states that a hunter received seeds from their god and was told to burry it in salt and iron inside of a graveyard. The flowers grew into blood red flowers and kept ghosts away. They were bred with a few other flowers to have them in different regions. There are no cases of allergies or being harmful to humans, even for ones that were centuries ago crossbred with flowers that are known to not be good for consumption. They seem to always be edible to humans and are grown in churches and graveyards specifically. They taste like rose and sweet, according to people who have access to them.

The town didn't believe in ghosts at first, but did halfway through S1.

Wes exists in this. I know enough about Wes to say that he just happens to be a ginger look alike to Danny and they were friends in middle school. His parents told him to stop being friends with Danny, especially post-accident. He is one of the first to realize Danny is Phantom and isn't fixed in Reality Trip since Danny thinks it's HILARIOUS. And nobody believes Wes.

Word travels quickly in this small town, like normal. So there's a giant gossip mill; being anywhere near the popular kids will give you a chance to hear just about anything and you can get about anything in there if you talk loud about. Tucker and Sam use this to their advantage sometimes. So do other students. It's great

The town loves Vlad, but think he's weird as hell. They can tell he beefs with Danny but doesn't know why.

Talking bout Vlad, his ghostly obsession is being loved. That's why he is so obsessed with Maddie Fenton. When he found out Danny was half ghost like him, he was added to the need for love. He wants Danny to love him like a father just as much as Maddie to love him as a husband. But as Maddie rejects him, he starts to shift his focus more on Danny becoming his son. He acknowledges that Danny will never want to be his kid, so that's why he creates the clones. He's a really lonely dude and his obsession is what basically corrupted him and turned him evil, from being unchecked and never balanced. If he was regulated like Danny, he would be just like Danny and less effected by it.

For the clones, Dani was actually the perfect clone because she was the only female clone. Vlad just didn't like that and so he wanted to have a perfect male one to be respectful to Danny. But he realized it later on and that's why he wanted Dani to come back and stabilize her after he lost the Perfect Clone.

The other clones weren't perfect, which led to them being barely sentient. They were ghost alive. But... they were practically hive minded.

Anyways, Dani is just out in the world stabilized now. She came back and got Dani to use his cool King powers to fix her. She still met Valerie and D-Stabalized events kinda happened but not at that time and exact. So Valerie knows about Dani and likes her. Y'know? You do.

Valerie figures out Vlad isn't a great dude, but she's gonna use his resources and just go along with his shit and kinda comes to an agreement with Vlad. Vlad does slightly care about her through proxy because of Danny.

Vlad doesn't personally care about people in Danny's life, but goddamn is he gonna by proxy care because he wants Danny to be happy. Vlad also does care about Jazz. Just not as much sadly.

Jazz is liked by the popular kids by the way. She's a bit weird, she's a Fenton. But they think she's very pretty and Jazz helps them pass classes. So who cares if she's related to the loser kid? She's older and cool in their eyes.

Jazz knows this. She's very smart. But she takes any friendship she can get.

I think I genuinely need to talk about Jack and Maddie for a second. They're not bad parents... they're just... they're not good parents. They genuinely love their kids. Jazz and Danny are the highlights of their life and they'd do anything to protect them. They just get carried away and are just too focused on their work so they became very absent and just not good parents. They never meant to be like this and they just never realized how badly it has gone. They don't realize the implications of growing up around aggressive environments are. They're not aggressive to the children, but seeing parents be aggressive in that degree to the point of making weapons will do something to kids. Even if the kids are just annoyed at this point. Jazz recognizes this and that's why she spent so much time trying to support Danny in the way she never got.

Also, the world does view Amity Park as one of the most haunted places. But they think it's more gimmick like. And since they don't have any hotels or Airbnb, no one really visits. The town made sure to not let hotels build in their town for this reason. The only thing you'll get is an Inn fifteen miles outside town limits. People do visit for ghosts. But it's not like people do for Salem or Point Pleasant.

His class over time realizes Danny is actually important to the ghosts because of small occurrences. But they don't know who he is. Eventually, they will find out one by one and be relatively chill about it in front of Danny. Only in front of Danny. Behind his back they're like oh my god he's phantom, king of ghosts. Guys what the fuc-

Ghost Zone/Ghosts

To start it off, there are different levels of ghosts. There's a hierarchy based off of power and respect. The more powerful you are, the higher you are and respected. There can be higher ghosts who aren't powerful due to respect.

There's the regular ones that we see, the Ancient ones that are canon, then there's the ghoul looking ones that are just generic and their obsession/items are fairly simple so they aren't too out there and can be controlled by others, then blob ones that are barely sentient. The blobs are usually animal souls that don't end up like Wulf or the other animal ones we've had episodes around.

Ghosts are created by extreme emotion and are fueled by human emotion and ectoplasm. Either they died with a ton of emotion or someone had too much emotion surrounding their death (that's why blobs tend to be pets that died. Or ghoul like ones had enough people shocked and upset over their death).

Their bodies run off of ectoplasm and ecto energy, which holds them together and fuels them. It allows them to conjure themselves and exist because the Ghost Zone gives it to them.

They are drawn to people who have been exposed to major ecto energy (which would be why they're drawn to Amity Park. So much exposure everywhere. So much) or heavy emotions. Which is why a lot of them feed off of them too

Ghost Cores are the metaphorical hearts and souls of ghosts. It hold their emotion and energy together. It fuels them and keeps them pulled together. If you get rid of the core/destroy it, the Ghost is completely gone. It cannot move on. It cannot reform. It's deader than dead. If you harm the core simply, they can barely keep form. They kinda become goopy and become extremely tangible. It causes their being to not keep.

There are different types of cores, as such in canon. You can have mixed cores or normal cores. Depends on your powers and your color is based off of your alignment and core.

Ghostly obsessions is what raw emotion effected the ghost. They could have had this obsession all their life, like Box Ghost loving boxes, or having to surround their death, like Danny's being protection. They are compelled by their obsession. They must follow it and are obsessed. They can be normal sometimes, but it's only when their obsession is not being challenged. That is your very being because it fuels your core with that very emotion and can give you powers.

Your ghostly tied item/ghost item is what you are tied to in the real world and you are tethered to. If it is destroyed, you are forced to move on. It isn't like the core, as that is the heart/soul. This is more like a leash that allows them to be connected to the human world and not just the Ghost Zone. Some ghosts don't know what it is or where it is. But Johnny 13 has his bike, Pandora's is her box. Danny's is a rocket replica because his parents gave it to him and he protects it. But some of them simply don't know where it is and don't care. Some have things that were buried with them or clothing they loved. They're still around because someone just hasn't destroyed or found it yet.

A blob's ghost item could be a collar or favorite toy if it was a pet. Things that are kept as memories.

A ghost haunt applies to a ghost that mainly resides in the human world, like Danny. They own that area and it is theirs. They usually do not have a lair in the Ghost Zone because they're the same thing, but on the human plane. But ghosts tend to get aggressive towards other ghosts who enter their haunt, so that's why Danny is a bit aggressive. Especially as he gets older and more in tune with being half ghost.

A ghost lair is simply just the ghost's claimed area in the Ghost Zone. Most have them and blobs and more ghoul looking ones will freely roam since they aren't powerful or "important"/high enough. They will tho, if they have a master to serve, stay with them. Laira are usually guarded and keep territorial ties to their owner, but not as strong as a haunt.

Ghosts with haunts will routinely go back into the Ghost Zone. This is for health, survival instincts, or for other reasons. Portals tend to appear more often in haunts because of this.

Ghosts need ectoplasm to survive. Simple. That's why they go in and out of the Ghost Zone a lot of they're in the human realm

The ecto weapons use ectoplasm and reverse engineers it to harm them. Reverse polarity and all. And the reason why salt/iron/holy water works on them is because it purifies and can control the energy. Plus, since they're based off of emotion, if enough people will it to work it will.

Blood blossoms effect them so well because of this. The salt and iron in the breeding mixed with the pure belief. And at some point someone started to soak the seeds in the reversed ectoplasm. But humans don't know that. They're just hardcore believers.

The Ghost zone is partially sentient. That's how it opens up portals and controls ectoplasmic levels. It is a realm made of ecto energy and ectoplasm in the end, so it makes sense. It was crated because human souls needed a limbo between reincarnation (hell/heaven doesn't actually exist in my version. Just a limbo and a few other realms that will be mentioned later). The Ghost Zone needs a core to keep it all together, and it tends to choose a ghost to be it's core. But it chooses very carefully and can move the core to a new ghost if it senses danger. Self preservation.

The Zone chose Danny because it knew it could trust Danny. Which is why Danny is destined to be inherently the most powerful. And the Ghost Zone can loosely be understood by the ancient ones, like Clockwork and Observers. And now Danny.

Every Ghost can speak Ghost Speak. It is an old language that Latin is based off of loosely. Humans cannot understand it. Some have loosely learned it and have trained to understand it. But it's very difficult since they don't have the right vocal chords. Or... have them. Ghosts don't actually have them.

Ghosts can switch freely between whatever human language they speak and then ghost. While speaking to other ghosts, especially in the Ghost zone, they speak in ghost speak. That's how they all understand each other and not have to learn a new human language. It's quite literally in their brain hardwired. It's the ectoplasm and ghost zone doing it. Plus the Ghost zone likes to slightly give mind them so it needs them to know it.

Death day is when they died. It's normally not that pleasant of a day because they can feel how they died throughout the day. Some relive it as a death echo if they're on the human plane, then some just have flashbacks. Some just relive the pain. Normally they like to be alone. But some will be with others. They are literally reliving their deaths because their energy is all jazzed and upset. It's a horrible reminder.

Death days are treated like sad birthdays. So it'll be a truce for that specific ghost and normally the others will give them things to make them feel better. Like... small gifts or words of encouragement. Or if they know their obsession, something to do with it.

Death echoes are not fun. There are a few ghosts who are always trapped in them and have to be released, those are normally weaker ghosts who don't have enough energy to move to the zone so they're trapped. But the stronger ones will leave an echo of energy at their death; which means that if they're on the human plane when death day comes they will reunite with the echo and be stuck in it until the time of death. They will not be themselves, but the fragment of the bit leading up to their death. A literal ghost of themselves being forced in a loop of their death. Think about yelling down a large tunnel and it echoes forever, except when you go back a year later you're forced to keep doing it until the original one is due at the same time.

The final echo will actually physically effect them as they're let go of the echo (for that year). The effects will disappear. (So for example, Danny for the whole day if he's in Amity Park will be stuck as a translucent almost non sentient, not knowing what's going on around him, replay of the Accident. Whoever is there will watch it happen again and again, but only him and not the others, until it comes time for his death and he comes out looking burn and electrocuted. Then it'll disappear and he'll be normal. No memory of the day besides the pain of the last one)

The Ghost zone can't really stop the echo unless they're inside the ghost zone. It contains them and protects them, so that's why they will leave their haunts or just go back for the day.

There is actual royalty, which is the Ghost King and and his court. The king can marry and have a queen. There can be ghost queen as rulers if a girl wings the crown. It just so happens the last two/three have been guys. Whoever rule's full title is king/queen ruler then their partner is king/queen consort. There can be two kings or two queens this way, and it's even gender wise. Yippee. Princes/princesses are children and do not actually hold any right to the thrown unless their ruler turns it over or they overthrow. It's a formality and political status out of respect. It barely happens.

The Ghost King is earned by right of conquest. So Danny challenging Pariah Dark and winning meant that he stripped Pariah of his crown and title. Everyone involved could lay claim if Danny does not take the crown and challenge Danny. And if someone does challenge Danny, then the ghosts will be able to access whether or not they actually do have the right or should be allowed.

Vlad actually challenged the right, but most of the ghosts knew Vlad was a bad option and vetoed him before Danny even knew what was going on. Vlad knew exactly what was happening and that's why he wanted to awaken him. He just... didn't plan out the events that unfolded.

But how normally the crowning works is that the crown would return to the Ghost Zone, and the Zone would present it to one of the Ancients. Whoever defeated the previous king will automatically receive title of Prince (which Danny didn't know but the others knew). The Ancient will then send out lesser ghosts or allies of the newly titled Prince to announce their new right. They will be brought to a coronation ceremony where they will accept or decline.

If they accept, they will be bound to the title and they will gain new powers literally and metaphorically. They will gain the King's Keep as a new lair. And they will be diplomatically/politically responsible for the new era

The King's court is mostly appointed with the exception of the higher ranking ghosts. They have a right to be on there.

The Ghost King is what people precieve as Satan/Lucifer/the Devil actually. But in the sake of continuity, they're just summoning the Ghost King by that name. Y'know. Only the religious folk call him by religious titles. Same dude.

This ties into the fact that the Ghost King and other ghosts can be summoned. Anything having to do with king/Satan/devil summonings the Ghost Zone will literally route to the Ghost King. Most "powerful ghost/demon" ones will more than likely be a powerful ghost, but the ghost zone will put the king in there also. If someone isn't specific in the summoning, they'll get someone with a related obsession to their goal or just a lower level generic ghost (probably a ghoul like one).

Which means Danny will be summoned from time to time. He can easily get back since it's a portal that can't be seen besides the summoned. Silly stuff tbh. People don't do it too much, but it's often enough to make him have a system for it.

Half Ghosts only have two natural cases and one unnatural. Dani isn't considered a true half ghost by the ghosts since she is a clone. They don't see her as anything other than a clone of Danny who is now her own person. They treat Danny and Vlad the same.

The term Halfa is the term for being half ghost, and most ghosts don't necessarily mean it in a mean way since it's just their slang term for half ghost. But some do use it in a mean way (the ones who don't like humans and hate the idea that two powerful ghosts are half human. Some ghosts are just dicks and use the term blob in the same way)

Since Danny doesn't talk about half ghosts to other ghosts a lot, he doesn't use the term. Sam and Tucker were confused when he first said it and looked a bit concerned. He explained what it means and they just nodded slowly. His friends personally don't like it, but just don't use it unless talking to ghosts.

A lot of the more powerful ghosts don't like it when the humans call them anything besides ghost or ectos, especially when they're called ghoulies. When they're called ghoulies they see it as being deemed the same as lower powered and they get offended.

Don't ask a ghost how they died. You don't need to ask exactly what their obsession is; if you can figure it out you can be like "oh this is it." But asking directly is a bit weird and rude. And don't ask them directly what their ghostly tied item is. Usually it's personal. C'mon guys. You wouldn't ask someone their deepest personal trauma. Why would you do that to them??

Also, it should be obvious that not all ghosts are evil. But a lot of them are just mean spirited or the emotions that made them aren't nice so they just... yeah. They can be good and nice people obviously. They just don't tend to be all the time

Also, Christmas truce came from three kings ago. Pariah Dark's full reign when he wasn't locked up caused a pause, but when he was locked up it continued.

Other

There's other realms, like the dream realm and the area outside of time that Clockwork lives in.

The Observers also live in the area outside of time, but do follow the main continuity of time. They do not care about the other continuities or timelines. The timelines exist but aren't the main one, so they don't really matter. Just branches that fizzle out after a bit. The Observers' job, along with Clockwork, is to protect the main one. Think kinda like TVA except like... you obey a realm and not some man playing god. And they don't just cut off the timelines. They just redirect the main one and let the others naturally fizzle out

There are Ghosts of __, like how we have the ghost of time and dreams. They're powerful and are important for the Infinite Realms to exist. Clockwork knows where to find them if needed, as he is one. Nocturn is kinda just an asshole and Clockwork keeps him in check. He knew Nocturn wouldn't win so he let the guy have his fun and then kinda reprimanded him on the side

Dan also exists outside of time now. Clockwork lets him outside the thermos sometimes and has put a blocker on his powers so he can't use them. Dan says it's inhumane and Clockwork hits him with a "maybe don't kill a ton of people and ruin the timeline. Ever thought of that?" (Obviously not exact words). It works. Dan is just glad to be out of that thermos.

Dan also really wants to meet Dani. Clockwork shows her story to him, and even though Dan doesn't have his human side he is interested in her and want to know more.

I just really want Dan to eventually get some humanity back and Clockwork is a manipulative ass, so he would use Dani as a tactic.

I’m gonna say something controversial, but maybe Bridgerton wouldn’t have felt the need to rush Penelope and Colin’s season to screen if the show had a cable release schedule.

The show said they pushed Polin to season 3 because they felt audiences were getting impatient to see their love story resolved, which may be true, but they wouldn’t be so antsy after only two seasons if there weren’t two years between each of them. Yes, season 2 had to wait on COVID, and season 3 had to wait on the writer’s/actor’s strike, but they’ve said that season 4 will come out 2026 at best without any exterior obstacles, and they’ve just now convened the writer’s room (after season 3’s full release). I don’t watch many Netflix shows, but seeing as this is how they operate with TV, I don’t know how many people are going to continue sticking around for what will be an 8-season show (if they’re allowed to finish) with two years between everything when they’re already expressing discontent over the fact they have to wait so long, and often forget characters’ names and arcs but are unwilling to rewatch the entire show every time just to remember what happened one season ago. Audiences are finally reaching the point where they’re unsatisfied with 8 episodes every two years (often, in many show’s cases, with half an hour or less per episode), and with shows like Bridgerton losing production quality and poorly handling the source material (see: keeping Penelope and Colin’s core conflict over her being Lady Whistledown, but removing the context around it and providing a weaker argument, or having Francesca fall for Michael/a while being married to John, inadvertently playing into biphobic stereotypes and harming both characters’ love for John and their grief over his eventual death/guilty feelings for falling in love once he’s gone).

While there are things I love that the show changed (making the Bridgerton men much more appealing love interests, adding Queen Charlotte and her miniseries, creating a relevant but not central storyline regarding race equality in alternate England, LGBTQ+ rep, and, more recently, giving Lady Danbury more backstory), the main storyline has started suffering, especially in season 3. I’m not saying 22-episode shows with yearly releases don’t also decline over time, but they also aren’t expected to garner a massive following immediately upon release or face cancellation - or, if they are widely popular, to string fans along for far longer than necessary to retain subscribers for less, subpar content.

And then there was the deal with the apple...the fruit of knowledge of good and evil. My personal thoughts are that surely it wasn't so bad to allow the humans to be able to read the fine print...to understand the terms and conditions of our Father's 'love' more like obsession for them.

I've had it with HS^2

I don't make fanart or content for this fandom anymore, but after putting on "Let's Read Homestuck" in the background while I've been working I've returned to having a few Alpha kid WIPs. I have also returned to scouring the tags for cool fanart and opinions.

This is not the fandom I remember back when I was reading the comic partway through Act 2.

I cannot say I'm inspired by Homestuck^2, and to roughly quote another user - I don't know who the audience for this comic is for. The epilogues themselves were a disaster and the Candy/Meat timeline idea appears to exist to create even more drama with lackluster stakes.

There's no real clear 'goal' or core to the story besides...the fact there are two universes. And we have Ultimate-self villains.

It reads like bad fanfiction, that's nothing new - the problem is I don't think the authors are writing with irony. The series has turned into a ship-heavy metal bat beating older fans to death with teen drama and character assassination.

The current team clearly has no interest or plans for Jade for example, and in the recent update with Aradia and Robo-Dave discussing time travel - it really seemed like her body being on the floor was an excellent time to rehash several existential conversation points we ALREADY had in the original Homestuck about stable timeloops, dead Daves and how he uses his Godtier powers.

Outside of several unnecessary pages of dialogue, it was disturbing that no part of Ultimate Dave would help move Jade off the fucking floor while he and Aradia sleep in lawn chairs watching her until she became 'The Muse' It is so out of character. Pre-retcon Dave died protecting her body, Davesprite destroyed his relationship with both John and Jade knowing they would be reunited with the 'real' Dave. He was a true knight when he felt it was appropriate and mattered. But now we have a Dave who is back to having an existential crisis about his powers, life and death - and his sexuality. By bringing up dead Dave's Marriage from the epilogues. He didn't even mention Jade by name, presuming the reader read at least the wiki article on the disastrous self indulgent mess.

But that was all he had to say on that dead Dave. Just about not loving Jade. No one else, doesn't even bring up Karkat or Terezi, let alone any of his friends. Talking about Sollux for half a second I'm convinced was just to bring up a failed marriage and apparently 'not wanting to be gay'? This isn't Dave anymore, and if that's the point I want to know why we as readers should care because I promise you coming fresh off Act 6 for the third time these are not the same characters. Davepeta had a better outlook on what it means to experience doomed selves, whether they were chipper about it because of Nepeta's influence is neither here nor there. No matter what Davesprite did, it was in character for what Dave would have done because he knows himself. When it meant self sabotage so his friends could go back to the Alpha timeline Dave, that was a circumstance, and an act any Dave would have made because of the way he thought at 13 years old. That doesn't mean he didn't change, or would never change.

I don't think the furthest ring has rattled the kids in a glass jar hard enough to give them critical brain damage through every doomed timeline that they're different people. At least not in the way Robo-Dave is, or frankly anything in the Epilogue.

I'm done with the writers treating Jade as a dead animal to stuff Calliope into for a milquetoast attempt at a plot device without treating that as a joke in itself.

No Homestuck isn't a serious comic, but there's a reason Cascade broke several websites while Beyond Canon can barely drudge a handful of tagged UPD8 replies. Its audience is small and unchallenged. We don't need to bring back the use of the hard R to be invested in a storyline, but if all you're interested in in a piece of media is gender identity and sexuality well you've got it. That said, neither are a genre on their own.

HS^2 lacks one and direction and it's just going to keep dragging its carcass through the dirt until every unseen pairing in panel is churned through the fanfic machine.

What are your favorite visual novels? And Otome?

I prefer dark/taboo stories so most of what I'll mention is filled with it. I might've forgotten some cause I pulled this out from what I can still remember:

Rondo Duo -> Nukige yuri/futa, porn with plot. Considered as the most impressive artwork out there, everything is animated through flash. The plot revolves around this half french half japanese girl who was raised by an overly religious father, constantly chastising her and presumably being blamed for being a woman as they are considered an enemy of god for seducing men into sinning.

She encounters a demon who teaches her to experience sexual acts for the first time and the rest is history. She moves into Japan with her mother and goes to an all girls school and decided to corrupt them and introduce the act of sexual depravity.

Euphoria -> Nukige, porn with plot. Extreme content but amazing story, despite the things it depicts, it is actually a love story. It's about 7 people, 6 women and 1 man trapped in this facility and they are forced to commit extreme sexual acts with the mc just so they can escape this place, the more you choose the same participant, the sadistic it gets. It tackles the hidden nature of a person and encouraging this sadistic nature out in the open despite the mc not wanting to.

if you can stomach what this vn churns out then feel free. I don't like the majority of the fetishes this game has, the mc needs to fucking wash his dick and the two girls you can choose are useless from a plot stand point, you are better off pursuing the three women instead as they are more relevant.

Butterfly Affection -> Created by the same creator of Teaching Feeling. You find a strange creature in the middle of the road and you decided to bring it home and take care of it. Throughout the game, the creature will start to become more humanlike.

Boyfriend To Death Series -> Not a dating game, this is a survival vn where you try to escape from a bunch of psychopaths. Depending on what kind of survive you plan to do, you can straight up give yourself stockholm syndrome, etc. It is was entertaining, it scratched a need for more dark games.

Determinable Unstable -> Created by the same creator of Teaching Feeling. You encounter a creature named fear in the forest in an attempt to visit your grandfather's grave, the curiosity overtakes you eventually and try to communicate with her. You can customize her, but idk if this has been completed.

Sayonaro wo oshiete/Teach me how to say goodbye -> Nukige, porn with plot, infamous denpa horror. I also consider this as one of the best for it's story. You are a man who is just starting to be a teacher in this all girls school but one day you encountered a girl who you call an angel and start to have thoughts of her being violated.

Throughout the story, you're mostly trying to figure out what's real and what's not as you will suddenly get into a H scene and then it will return back to normal the next. The mc is schizophrenic btw, says and thinks the most outlandish things. There used to be an english translation but the elite bullied the guy who did it because it was not up to their standard in regards to capturing this game's wording.

Katawa Shoujo -> One of the classics out there, it is about pursuing a romantic relationship with a bunch of disabled girls and you, the player, is a young man who just recently found out he has a heart condition and is transferred to this school after trying to confess your love to a girl. It made me tear up.

Saya No Uta -> Nukige, porn with plot. Well known eldritch romance horror, you are a man who just got into a car crash and now suffer from a strange condition where everything around you smells and look like meat. He is unable to function through everyday life to the point that it's affecting his previous relationships negatively till he met a girl named Saya. In spite of his surroundings only she looks normal as he clings to her for sanity sake.

Minikui Mojika No Ko/The Ugly Duckling -> Nukige, porn with plot. This is more dark and about revenege than anything out there, it deals with a deformed young man who is bullied for his appearance at school and was lured by a female classmate into thinking he was getting confessed at, he eventually snaps and assaults her. What they don't know is that he has telephatic powers since at the very young age and it is part of the plot. What I like about this VN is that it has impressive animation effects, like the words floating around every character to give you insight on what they really feel and the entirety of it is just you looking down their feet most of the time, making you disassociate with the world.

There is no translation but let me give you a bit of it:

There is a monster in this vn. Yes. It is very unique.. It is a large, sentient dick. A long time ago, there was this overly lustful monk, and was said to have seduced the empress and chased out by the soldiers, but his manhood was too big and so decided to cut it. After that, the locals decided it'd be a great idea to deify this large rod as they claim it brings good fortune and medicinal properties and started a cult out of it. This gigantic member gives blue aphrodisiac when they give it a sacrificial maiden, but they found it too taxing and so made a group of their own maidens through inbreeding so they can toss the children they birth out to this deity.

The MC and one of the main interests are inbred. And only through this bloodline are they able to gain this power called Mojika(Mind Reading). My gripe with this one is that the MC keeps repeating himself, making it a slog to read through.

Morenatsu -> You know what this is about, I don't need to explain it. It has a good story and it really gives off that nostalgic and isolated village feel where you are an outsider of it. My only gripe is the bad ends which seems to be out of character for even the mc and feels out of nowhere, also fuck Kounosuke.

Kana Little Sister -> Eroge, incest. An emotional story about a forbidden romance between a brother and his sick sister. The H scenes are mostly towards your girlfriend and there is only one for Kana but it is optional. It changes the ending but it's not a requirement, really.

As for the otome games, here:

Cancel A Format -> Fanmade game for hetalia, you play as a girl with amnesia in a private island where a school is set in. It is where all the country personifications go to as cultural exchange and alliance forming. You are pretending to be a guy out of fear of being targeted for being a girl and enroll there. Mostly crossdressing and misunderstand hijicks ensues, it also has the saddest routes because my eyes constantly hurt afterwards.

Girlish Love Revolution -> Yes. This is a dieting otome game, I hold it up in an esteem way. This was also one that lets you get together with your actual brother, blood relative, and he is the best route. There is already an english translation for it's DS version. I got the hardest guy to get in the game on my first try.

Hatoful Boyfriend -> Pigeon dating game, no ironic shit. This is peak. Once you've finished all the routes, you will unlock the true route and this is where this vn is heralded as one of the best.

Kuni No Alice Series -> I've also mentioned this before, this is unapologetically problematic and we are all here for it. Alice in wonderland themed, while I want to explain to you the plot, it's other sequels don't seem to follow it and has turned into something episodic. The gist is that this entire world is a game, those with roles and those who don't have them. Go play the original if want to learn more, it already has a fan translation.

The men are filled with red flags and Peter is the superior husband because he has mud on his ears and don't listen to anything you say.

Monochrome Heaven -> Do not let the art style fool you, this has the most interesting plot line out there. Even the bad endings hold information for you to piece together what's happening and their relationships. I highly recommend this one.

You are an orphaned girl selling matches till a man approaches you, he takes you home to make you his wife within a limited time. If you fail, he will kill you so while you're in the house, you'll learn things about the family and why the men there seems to die so young.

My Vow To My Liege -> Chinese otome, takes place in the last years of the dynasty where you are a girl disguising herself as a man in order to get respect in being a ruler of a nation. This is filled with despair and many characters will die, I assure you. The story is amazing and GouJian is the best.

Nameless -> Has the best yandere for an otome game and the story can get very dark. Your dolls turned into humans, and by going through all of them, you will unlock a secret route which will reveal the true main interest.

Taisho X Alice -> Good protagonist, good characters, good story. Katakana Alice is number one. Not spoiling the plot twist but it is episodic, some connecting but has it's own story where fairytale characters have been genderbent for a good reason and the only one who isn't is this mysterious guy named Alice.

The Men Of Yoshiwara Series -> In a remote island, men and women have switched roles, the men in this island are born as courtesans and live in brothels while the women are free and work, they only go to these brothels to bear children. Despite the wonky translation, the story is very good and the characters are memorable. Every character has their own story, it has bittersweet endings in most of them and it has made me tear up.

My favorite is Kikuya but Ohgiya has the better translation between the two. In my opinion, this all in the matters of taste so if you prefer the men in Ohgiya then go for it, my man is in Kikuya so I am obliged to prefer that one.

TMGS/Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side -> I've said this on the previous ask, it is in fact, one my favorites. There is already a translation for the three games.

well, sure, maybe ill do that someday in the hypothetical KITTYQUEST retrospective video i have floating around in my head. it took long enough to finish - two and a half months, that is. but this panel alone required me to take a ton of personality quizzes while roleplaying as each one of kittys friends, so god damn it im going to analyze all of this right now. read below the cut to learn all about how kitty and her friends (and cousin) would disastrously fail in a doomed sburb session that was never meant to happen

in the most recent upd8, kitty explores the shell of a dream bubble that hasnt been taken in by the black hole yet. this black hole is the one caused by the collapse of the green sun, with lord english at its center. the black hole is devouring everything, as ramona? explains, including the furthest ring, every universe created by sburbs many sessions, and the entirety of paradox space. its an awfully long process, and kittys earth c that we know and love isnt in any imminent danger, but ramona? indicates that many alternative timelines are meeting their end as we speak. in the epilogues, the black hole deposits its garbage onto earth c. in KITTYQUEST, we know as much about where the black hole ends as we do in real life. personally, i view it more as like a Big Crunch. the opposite of the Big Bang, where quadrillions of years from now the last atom of the last molecule will be erased. take from that what you will - KITTYQUEST has never been a story that is interested in grand cosmic abstract ideas. its priorities are much more pedestrian and intimate. who cares about the ultimate fate of the universe when these middle schoolers over here are feeling kinda sad?

ramona? is the vergil to kittys dante, taking her on a journey through hell as kitty processes the traumatic deaths of her parents. a dream bubhell, if you will, the contents of this dream bubble merge the familiar with the imaginary. we see pieces of scenes we recognize from homestuck, but new scenes are introduced as well. most notably is the land kitty wakes up in - the Land of Unicorns and Fractals, a vaporwave dreamscape torn straight from her sburban account. someone once asked why kittys planet isnt a land of Frogs since shes a self-assigned Space player. well, sburban is an mmo. thousands of players cooperate in a massive medium, so not every Space player needs a Forge. but really, this was foreshadowing that kitty is pretending to be a Space player. she wants to be a Rogue of Space because it makes her feel more equal to her parents. but she isnt one, and the name of her land gives it away very early. in addition to LOUAF, we see illusions of ramonas planet, the Land of Wax and Altars, and the lands and god tier forms of her ghostly friends. neither kitty nor ramona? react to these illusions, suggesting that only we the viewer can see them. like ramona?, the reality of them is nebulous. its more likely that they are not real ghosts, but illusions created by the somehow still-functioning mechanics of the dream bubble. like memories of lusii and loving parents, these projections are not real. or perhaps they used to be real - and they are remnants of an alternative timeline doomed from the start

kitty will never play sburb, and she isnt meant to. sburb will only be played on earth c once, by caliborn a billion years from now. anything else goes against the continuity established by homestuck. as such, a session played by these kids will never succeed. but what if the cult of the witch planned better? what if they werent all bark and no bite? what if kitty was thrust into sburb properly, and what if the cult cared enough about her friends and family to ensure she had other players? this is the result we would get. lets take a closer look

Nat Eglish | Sylph of Space | Prospit Land of Dust and Frogs Denizen: Echidna

yeah you heard me right, nat stole kanayas classpect right out from under her. what gives, isnt her family historically tied to the heir of breath? well, take it up with the quizzes that diagnosed her with kanaya disease. i dont know how to classpect, you want me to do it MYSELF? get real. besides, it figures that someone linked to june through her ancestor would be a space player

nat is a go-getter, her mix of interest in both STEM and the arts makes her a formidable student and an excellent sburb player. shes the perfect candidate for the frog breeding task, because even though its a little more organic than the science shes used to, shes great at planning things out and being organized about it. LODAF is a planet originally covered in desert. its frogs are in a fossilized/mummified state. the LODAF we see in this upd8 has been overtaken with ocean and lilypads, indicating that she was successful in terraforming her planet and initiating the frog breeding process. great job nat, we never doubted you for a second. i wonder what her interaction with echidna was like? nat is a pretty easy going individual who steers clear of drama, so maybe she and her denizen were able to strike a deal. why kill a giant snake when you can work together?

nat spends a lot of her early session trying to spur her friends into action. as we will come to find out, the welfare of the other planets is directly tied to her own. so nat is tasked with being the one in the group project who reminds everyone to do their own parts of the assignment. this is hard for nat because she is so laidback by nature. being pushy isnt her thing - she likes to be perceived as cool headed. if her friends dont get it together, nat will risk having to crack her knuckles and start laying down the law

as a space player, her helper is the knight in the session, who loves to be helpful more than anything else. you know him, you love him, its....

Nornsa Moirai | Knight of Life | Prospit Land of Bleach and Coral Denizen: Charybdis

have you ever met a girl more suited to be a knight than nornsa? as the knight of life, nornsa is the unofficial/official sidekick of nat as she runs around turning frogs into slime. he may not be a time player, but he tries his best

much of nornsas performance in sburb is going to depend on whether his family comes with him. hes fiercely protective of his twin sisters, and raises them perhaps more than their perpetually busy father does. if all three come with him, nornsa will likely be too distracted with ensuring their welfare to properly undertake the duties required of him. keeping them safe competes with killing underlings, completing his planets quest, and helping out nat. he would no doubt be stretched to his breaking point. on the other hand, being separated from them isnt much better. though he isnt being held back by the needs of his family, nornsa centers his identify around his ability to help other people, especially his family. the crushing guilt of leaving them behind - perhaps to certain doom - prevents him from performing at 100%. he may fail to live up to his friends expectations, prompting a similar nervous breakdown. there arent many sunny sburb outcomes for nornsa as someone who doesnt live for himself, and this is reflected by his planet

LOBAC is a dead planet covered in bleached coral. nornsas task is to revitalize it for the consorts, who will surely die if the reefs are not restored. moreover, the water from this rejuvenated planet will be necessary in terraforming LODAF, so nat relies on nornsa to complete his quest to complete her own. nornsas planet in this upd8 is restored to full color, which is natural since nats planet is also in full health. the process of revitalizing LOBAC likely involves themes of making sacrifices and being selfish. in other words, nornsa has to make some tough choices to make himself happy. he has to learn how to prioritize what he needs instead of conflating his sense of worth with what he can do for others. ironically, though, once he makes this breakthrough and finishes his quest, his success immediately benefits nat rather than just himself

Capable Greenhorn | Rogue of Light | Derse (you heard me) Land of Chess and Towers Denizen: n/a, later revealed to be Cetus

cg is a slippery creature who defies me whenever i try to get a good idea of who they are. first a hope player (buzzer error noise) and then a mind player, cg finally settled on being a light guy, which i think suits them. cg keeps their cards close to their chest. as a resident of a chessling dormitory, they know how to live communally. they certainly enjoy their alone time, but they are more familiar with being part of a unit rather than an individual. this is all to say that cg is a great sburb hopeful, studious, team-oriented, observant, and slow to act if they arent certain what path to take. theyre very deliberate, and in a sburb session i think theyre easily the brains of the operation. the problem is that theyre... well, a carapacian!

how does sburb deal with a player whos a member of its designated npc species? is it capable of treating that carapacian as an autonomous being? it appears as though it cannot, because LOCAT is a mishmash of skaia, prospit, and derse. little of cgs actual personality shines through, which im sure is frustrating for them. cg is not a person who often experiences the spotlight or special recognition, and being shunted to the side by sburb is demoralizing to them. the only pro to this situation is that LOCAT is able to serve as a teleportation/save point for cg and their fellow players. from the towers rising from its chessboard, players can easily move around without needing to go to sleep or use sburbs other portals. this is perhaps how the water from LOBAC was able to be transferred to LODAF

cgs sburb journey involves finding out who they are as an individual. being cut off from their dormitory siblings is like losing a limb or one of their senses. not only that, but theyre also a derse dreamer - despite being a prospitian. dreaming is dangerous and scary for them, and they have trouble coping with the old carapacian culture that rules the dreaming moons. they dont belong anywhere - prospit will not accept them, derse even less so, and their friends just dont understand. often sleep deprived from the danger of sleeping (i think its also highly likely their dream self would be assassinated), cg struggles to complete their planets quest. at the end though, cg will be delighted to receive the quests reward. LOCATs chessboard will overturn to reveal its true form - a planet that actually reflects who cg understands themself to be. just as carapacians will change their name to signify a new stage of their life, LOCAT will bear a new name as well - the Land of Cathedrals and Turrets

Malibu Tempra | Thief of Heart | Derse Land of Tech and Smog Denizen: Lamia

even before malibu got diagnosed with thief disorder, i knew it was coming. just as nornsa is a knight through and through, malibu cannot beat the thief allegations. she also cant escape being a heart player. trust me, i tried to make someone in this cast be a time player. she just wasnt having it, so i let her be whatever she wants

malibus land is riddled with neon segmented lines reminiscent of a motherboard. its bisected by a neon seam that keeps it together, and at its south pole is a giant mechanism coughing up smog in the colors of malibus psiionics, giving it the appearance of a giant spherical spaceship. its a cyberpunk nightmare, dystopian and colorful and loud. being held back by something loud and colorful is nothing new to malibu, as someone who has a strained relationship with her high-maintenance lusus. malibu is a lot of things. shes edgy and brash and quick to anger, but shes also quite sensitive. she hates feeling forgetten or useless, leading her to put too many eggs in her basket sometimes. this is the same girl who wants to go to both fashion school and a batterization academy - lets pick our battles, malibu. though shes whip-smart and fearless, shes easily discouraged. accomplishing her planets quest will be difficult for her, should she choose to see it through at all. 50/50 on whether she attempts it just because everybody else is doing theirs and she wants to fit in, or ignores it in favor of leveling up and getting that tiger (do the kids in the fandom these days know about 'got tiger'?)

her quest, should she choose to accept it, is clearing the pollution from the pipes in the planets center. like the bleached coral threatening nornsas land, the smog that gives LOTAS its name is a potential killer. previously, i suggested that LOCAT is the planet that helps water flow from LOBAC to LODAF. i think its just as likely that the mechanisms running through LOTAS allow for the same action. the planet itself may have to move across the medium to deliver water to LODAF, and a smog-coughing pollution-riddled land is no good at this task. if this is the case, malibu will have no choice but to put aside her own rash desires and put some serious thought into solving her quest. if not, nornsa and nat can always pass the ocean between their planets bucket by bucket through the towers on LOCAT

our next two players need no introduction. lets start with:

Ramona Flamel | Seer of Hope | Derse Land of Wax and Altars Denizen: Medusa

engulfing ramonas planet is a sea of hot, red wax. it would be more evocative of blood if ramona were human, but nonetheless it evokes a gloom all the same. from pockets in the wax, great columns of smoke rise in a haze that covers the planet. the experience of being on LOWAA is like walking into a church that has been burning too much incense. its consorts are in perpetual mourning - when ramona arrives in the medium, the flame at the heart of her land has been extinguished. the rising smoke from the sea tells us much the same, and LOWAA is at risk of hardening over if ramona cannot reignite the flame. the sea will solidify, and the consorts way of life will be forever altered. you could say this planet is experiencing a flame-L. anyway,

even if ramona didnt have enough mommy issues to level a city block, there is still the looming problem of her chronic illness. TPP is the specter that haunts every aspect of her daily life, and ramona is well aware that on alternia, she would meet a swift and early death because of it. remaining in a state of physiological stagnation is her reality for many years, a neverending nightmare of being trapped in a body that she cannot use to communicate her needs or defend herself. her majority human family cannot understand her, merely chalking up her many medically-excused absences from events as unfortunate but expected. her quest on LOWAA will force ramona to grapple with the trauma she has endured throughout her life due to TPP. living on borrowed time is a major theme of her session. the idea of achieving god tier and potentially curing herself intrigues her, especially since she has a limited amount of her medication left. but this goal competes with the time-sensitive task of reigniting the flame at LOWAAs center. save herself, or save the consorts? or could she save both? her abilities as a seer of hope will certainly aid her, but ultimately ramona will have to do the unthinkable to complete both of these tasks at once: she will have to ask for help. what the fuck, am i right? is that allowed?

i quite like the idea of all the lands in this session interacting with one another. if ramona succeeds in lighting the flame and saving her planet, perhaps the heat will be key to clearing the smog from LOTAS. what do i know? maybe thats how pollution works in sburb. perhaps the cause of the smog is the smoky breath of malibus denizen, lamia, who is curled up inside the center of the planet. the flame would be a great way to scare her off and clear out the pipes

and finally, the girl of the hour,

Kitty Harley-Leider | Mage of Rage | Prospit Land of Unicorns and Fractals Denizen: Chimera

many old homestuck analyses will point out that the lands of the beta kids are seemingly opposite to how the kids outwardly present themselves. im not sure if i 100% buy this, but kittys land definitely breaks this rule. LOUAF is a perfect depiction of how kitty presents herself in the beginning of KITTYQUEST. cutesy and loveable and pastel, this planet is covered in cotton candy clouds (literally, i used cotton candy as an overlay for this lands clouds) and is populated by starry unicorns and alicorns. these creatures play a similar role to the angels on eridans land - they are not consorts, but something else entirely

i dont have to tell you that kitty is... kind of a mean girl. how aware she is of this fact is up for debate, but kittys saccharine facade that she puts on for her doting family is just that - a facade. kitty is not a bad person by any stretch of the imagination, but she has lived a very privileged life. she is denied nothing, doted upon by all who know her, and has been fed the narrative that she is special and precious. i am not entirely sure the extent to which kitty uses her latent rage powers to her advantage when it comes to manipulating her loved ones - or if shes even aware shes doing it - but regardless, kitty is a girl who knows how to keep an act going. whether its pretending to her school friends that shes a normal kid like them, or pretending to her family (sans ramona) that she is a perfectly innocent "CINNAMON ROLL," shes no stranger to the idea that looks can be deceiving. the same is true for LOUAF

kitty will find out the hard way that the uni/alicorns of LOUAF are plaguing it. theyre mean to the bone - they bite, they buck, they kick, and theyve chased the consorts out to sea. she doesnt want to consider that something so pretty could be so dangerous, shes got a unicorn on her shirt for godssake. but despite how bright and colorful LOUAF is, its arid and desolate. the unicorns have eaten all the vegetation, and the land has become a desert. the remaining life is below the sea, where the consorts have grudgingly adapted. the activity underwater produces fractals across the waters surface, giving the land its crystalline appearance. even so, the unicorns are getting antsy with a dwindling food supply, and may take to plucking the consorts out of the sea to eat. kittys quest (heehaw) will be to accept the nature of the darling creatures she loves so much, reclaiming LOUAF for the consorts and earning the approval of the denizen. the consorts, once they repopulate their old home, will thank kitty by giving her the solution to ramonas quest: the remains of the unicorns can be used to stoke the flame in her planet. something something magic something something miracles. the consorts of LOUAF are satisfied knowing theyre helping the consorts of LOWAA, whose lives are also being threatened in a different way

so we can see that all the lands are tied together:

unicorn infestation on LOUAF is exterminated > flame on LOWAA is rekindled > smog on LOTAS is cleared > LOTAS can be used as vessel to carry water from LOBAC to LODAF > LODAF is restored and frog breeding can begin. and LOCAT is the save point and backup to LOTAS

why cant this session work out? well, we have already established that it goes against canon. sburb cannot be played on earth c, not yet at least. though everything fits together decently well here, this session is missing a crucial component. it does not have a time player. there is no equivalent to the beat mesa, no way to initiate a scratch, and no time player to fix fatal errors. not that a scratch would help anyway, because none of these kids were made with ectobiology save for cg. it is simply a nice hypothetical to think about, and a compromise for the folks out there who really, really wanted KITTYQUEST to be a sburb mspfa. sorry! hope this is enough for you

Yellowjacket fans are toxic as fuck since there’s constantly a grotesque amount of man hating and bitching about how there should be no male characters at all on the show because it’s “about women” like bitch I don’t think Lord of the Flies but if they were fucking asshole teen girls is the flex you’re thinking it is when you call the show feminist.

Secondly there is no reason to hate Ben. He was a fucking teacher who also had to coach girls soccer despite hating everything about it, he lost a fucking leg in a plane crash and has had to watch a group of teens go from chill to horny and aggressive to violently slaughtering each other to appease their deer god. So I genuinely don’t get people who are mad at him for not caring about them or doing more.

Just because you’re an adult doesn’t mean you’re prepared to deliver a baby in a cabin with no medical supplies and it doesn’t mean you know how to keep a group of super douchey teens from eating each other and hunting each other for sport.

Also for the love of God no you’re fic is not better than the entirety of season two. No the actors shouldn’t be writing the show instead of the writers. The actors don’t know the characters, they didn’t create the characters, they got mailed a script and told their motivations when filming scenes, every interview I have seen clearly shows the actors are just fucking vibing ans genuinely don’t have much of a thought or opinion on anything. Also choosing a writers strike as your time to make moronic posts about writers needing replaced with actors is a dick move.

Also every fandom has character deaths they are not happy with for whatever reasons and about 2% of the time they are right to be upset like Tara dying in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not a character who since episode one has wanted to kill herself because she has irreparable trauma from every single moment of her life from the day she was born to the day she came home to nobody who gave a fuck she lived. Like you’re all genuinely surprised that’s the character who died? Seriously?

anyways i will be honest

so i am not super interested in the jill or chris only games. leon was my first introduction into the re games all the way back in like 2004 or whatever and then 2012? when re6 came out. i was never really into 0 or 1 or any of the other games.

from what i understand, is that (valenfield) is a ship that's generally liked (but i agree it's a small group.) but also i feel like it's super strange(? as a ship) because capcom has never really implied that they are romantic (as opposed to aeon which has had several romantic implications.)

TO ME, i feel like valenfield are coworkers that COULD maybe become a thing but there's SO little in the lore that makes me feel like it would happen. i feel like NOT ONCE has there been an overt romantic action done between the two characters.

that doesn't mean i think it can't happen - but i think this is why the ship is unappealing to me

if i will be blunt, it's just a ship that's a hr violation imo. OR i guess a friends to lovers trope (which if you know me, you know that it is one of my least favourite tropes)

now i wouldn't necessarily say that i hate it or anything like that, it just does very little for me. and in terms of popularity, i really just think that there isn't a lot of a push for romantic content? (even from capcom's pov?) they're pushed as coworkers and friends a lot and it's always just kinda been implied by devs/directors that they're just friends.

there's still def lots of fan created content for them? but i do think that the ship for jill x carlos had grown more after re3r came out.

i feel like if they wanted to make the ship (valenfield) more of a thing, then in death island or something they should've had chris and jill interact more and have some sort of romantic implication put in place?

i dunno. also character x character ships are usually generally less popular as opposed to character x reader ships if you're talking about fics. but yeah. i dunno. i'll def read fics with valenfield in the background and i already have. but i don't really seek them out.

i also just don't find chris to be a very complex and interesting character (I'M NOT SAYING HE'S BAD OKAY)

on the other hand though, i do like jill, and i kinda enjoyed her plotline in death island but i wish they actually didn't do the whole avengers thing and have everyone else involved because death island should've honestly cut leon and (maybe claire) leon def should've been cut and have the film focused on jill

their most complex characters are women and are sidelined half the time or they have their plots reduced to just character tropes so they can fit the plot device that they need. it's exhausting sometimes to write for the characters because they can feel so bland and slate like. i have to figure out SO MUCH STUFF cause some of the characters are so empty personality wise.

Watched about half of 3.4, here are my thoughts only on Jack Jr.:

I really liked the little silent exchange between Beverly and her son where she checks if he’s okay with her leaving him with Picard. The more mature iteration of last episode’s exchange when Picard wanted to talk to her privately. I’m wildly biased but I honestly think these two are playing REALLY well off each other! They’re very physically communicative and protective (reminiscent of some scenes with Wesley also). But let me see them work together more, stop sending one off to solve problems while the other has a Meaningful Talk with Picard. The little glimpse of her quietly analyzing stuff while he muses out loud was interesting! I want more!

Jack’s full body ‘ehhh’ when walking into the holodeck was also great but he is being way too cooperative. Thank god he is still being a little bitchy, but take it up by several notches please. That being said I liked the various awkward moments.

I guess explaining why the holodeck doesn’t cost them needed power is better than not explaining it, as has happened a number of times on other Trek shows, but like. You could simply have not had this scene take place in the holodeck!!! The thematic resonances you are trying to create by doing this are completely unnecessary and honestly the whole “fraught attempt at bonding/conciliation under the shadow of death” vibe would be way better served by being elsewhere. (I do like that Jack is a bit wigged by it though.)

I have VERY mixed feelings about Jack’s “I’m a Cool Brooding Loner” speech like. Okay FIRST the framing of it as “I’ve been alone - except my mom” with her as like an afterthought does NOT fit the relationship as it’s been presented up til now, and like given everything else about how motherhood, fatherhood, the Family Unit, has been treated in this show it adds to a SUPER icky normative family-values THING that I was not expecting to be this bad in Star Trek. It would fit much better with what’s been presented so far for Jack to say WE’VE only ever needed the two of us, WE’VE always been on the outside that’s how I grew up and how I’m content to be… you could have him switch a little awkwardly to speaking just of himself bc he’s not sure his mother wouldn’t be happier on the inside like she used to be, that would be cool. (Or aggressively continue to speak of them both out of defensiveness against that suspicion!) I HATE that part, I really hate it. I would be much more generous if all this ICK weren’t already present, but it is, so I’m not.

But I do at least love the implication that Jack’s daddy issues aren’t really directed at Picard so much as at All Of Starfleet, thank you that’s one of the things I was strongly hoping for, and it makes a lot of sense where he’s grown up under all these mysterious shadows that his mother doesn’t talk about, from Wesley to the Enterprise crew to his namesake.

…when Picard said perhaps he needed the moment, like a complete fool I had the thought that he might talk about Elnor. I knew he wouldn’t, of course I knew he wouldn’t, but I had the thought anyway. SIGHHHHH.

I am paused to do other things just as they’re about to talk about Jack Crusher (Sr), and I am both excited and trepidatious.

10. solo

i won't say i disliked it but it didn't capture my attention either. it was kind of just there and i zoned out for most of it. i liked the droid but then she died :( i think it absolutely should've been allowed to be a comedy

9. rogue one

kind of the same story as solo; i don't really see why it needed to exist and nothing about it much interested me. i didn't actually like it any more than solo but i think if i flipped the ranking people would get mad at me.

8. the phantom menace

the beginning of my sw journey and yet sadly it did not leave much of an impact on me. the editing was. something. and it felt oddly-paced. sometimes the cgi and practical effects were really cool though (and sometimes they weren't).

7. attack of the clones

honestly this movie kind of felt all over the place? like so much happened but not really in a good way. the editing felt better than the first one though and it had less jar-jar which is always a good thing.

6. revenge of the sith

watching this after the clone wars added a lot more weight behind the events but also made anakin's turn so incredibly jarring. i feel like they really nerfed padme too :/ it's mostly the added context of the clone wars that puts this one above the other two in my eyes, even if it also manages to be a detriment. idk.

5. obi-wan kenobi

i think a lot of people didn't care for this one and i can see why but i thought it was fine. probably did not need to exist but young leia is the cutest little shit and her interactions with obi-wan really made the series for me. glad it was short though.

4. tales of the jedi

yeah i know it JUST came out but i'm putting it here anyway. on the ahsoka side of things i don't personally feel like her episodes added much except for maybe the first one bc i love backstory, but ahsoka is ofc my favourite character so i will never complain about more screentime for her. dooku's stuff was pretty interesting though and i like the context that it adds to his whole deal. i kind of feel we should've gotten it sooner tbh.

3. the clone wars

i think the main thing holding it bad a little for me is its length. i feel like it could've been cut down a fair bit, but for as many boring episodes as it had, there were plenty of great ones as well. i'd say that this is the piece of sw media that does the most for the franchise as a whole. it added SO MUCH context and opened up so many paths for more content. characters actually got to be characters, including the clones, and it makes the third movie hit that much harder. perhaps most importantly of all (this is a joke don't @ me), it gave us ahsoka, who i love very much, and who i find very interesting. i will never get sick of her.

2. the bad batch

though it had plenty of action and drama, the main draw of this show for me is the more lighthearted stuff. omega's addition to the sw cast was a very good decision and i loved every moment we got of her. to see a sw series that put more focus on family was really refreshing for me and i can't wait to see more of it next year. this show was also my first introduction to kanen and hera and goodness i had no idea what i was in for. 

1. rebels

if you've been paying any attention to my twitter at all this past week this should come as no surprise. like the bad batch, if there's one thing i loved most about rebels, it's the found family aspect. i loved seeing the main cast interact and all of their dynamics had a wonderful quality to them that i appreciated. and it gave me back ahsoka! and i love it for that. the entire show had this strong feeling of hope running through it, which of course made the second half of s4 hit all the harder for me. as much as kanan's death and everything surrounding it hurt me, however, i can only commend the series on the impeccable writing that led to that moment. everything was incredibly well-crafted, creating a moment that impacted me more than any other piece of media ever has before. it made me cry at fiction for the first time ever and i love it for that. but i also hate it for that. but i love it for that. i desperately hope that we'll get to see the main character again in the franchise's future, not just because i miss them dearly, but because i feel like none of their stories ar quite finished. i think there's a lot more we could see from them, with my biggest (and probably most unrealistic) hope being for a series focused on hera as she raises her son and works to move on from kanan's death, bc i feel like the series did Not give her enough time to grieve (not that i can blame it, war is busy).

On Tragedies Over HEAs, Emotional Wrecking Balls And The Next Fic I'm Hitting "Publish" On

Since I'm writing in the Harry Potter Fandom, is it more British to say "Emotional Wrecking Bollocks?" 🙃 Note: This post may contain implied spoilers for several works. Everyone in my IRL life to whom I have revealed my recent love/obsession with Harry Potter fanfiction ends up hearing about Draft of Living Death by Maloreiy. I refuse to shut up about it and if my friends can get past some of the content warnings of the piece, l encourage them to read for the thrill of riding the broken emotional rollercoaster that lands every reader in the sinking pit of "tragically bitter-sweet." Bitter-sweet, that is, if you're the kind of person who drinks extra-strong coffee black and thinks sourdough bread tastes "too sugary." Draft of Living Death deserves its own post of praise and soon I'll be sharing a post here's a post of the fics I have listed as "Emotional Wrecking Balls" in my nightmare of a Fanfiction-I've-Read tracking spreadsheet. While I love a happily-every-after (HEA) ending as much as the next reader, I live for fics that are tragic or at least angsty with an ambiguous ending. Perhaps it's the over-abundance of HEAs that I've read that drives me to seek a counterbalance. OR MAYBE, really, it's because I grew up on late second-wave and early third-wave emo music, so it's ingrained in me to emotionally get off on tortured feelings of unrequited love or stories of partners who can't stay together. I have my list of WIPs (aka Works in Progress) and at least half, if not the majority of them would get the #EmotionalWreckingBall tag. I've only recently shared my first fic and my itchy fingers and addled brain are eager to publish the next piece. Based on which one is closest-to-completion, the work that is the most ready to go is a rough piece whose working title in my Drive is currently just called "Dead Dove Do Not Eat," like the common tag. (See info about the DDDNE tag here.) DDDNE was initially the first fic I wanted to prepare-to-share, but since I wanted to launch this writing project around something tied to Neville's birthday (July 30th) and my love of Nevmione, it just felt like starting on this more difficult piece was not The Vibe(tm). But now that I'm refining this tragic work, it feels very close to the world of the first piece I've already posted, in a way that almost makes them undermine each other. (Read my first fic, In All The Ways That Mattered here.) DDDNE takes place about 2 years after 8th Year Graduation, so it's like a jacked-up sequel to IATWTM, if you've wished for a dismal continuation of the storyline. I haven't looked at DDDNE for a month or two so I was surprised as how much I liked reading it today. The good news, for me, is that there was more tenderness written into this fic than I remembered but then I realized, while editing and filling in some gaps, that I've created more emotional investment latch onto. It'll makes it easier to render the reader gutted, where possible. I'm torn if this should be the second offering I put out there but it's so close to being done that I'm very tempted to just say "eff it" and let it rip. I want to read more tragedies and ambiguous endings in one-short formats. So far, I've found that shorter works focusing on dark themes, angst, and no HEA tend to be more successful in achieving their (perceived) aims than longfics, but maybe that's my bias. I have yet to really find a DDDNE longfic that captures me (but I'm open to suggestions in the comments.) There were two big holes in my DDDNE fic that may end up softening my overall approach, making the final product a little less intense. While I want to rebel against the impulse to make things more palatable, the muse is calling, truly. It's telling me that the ending, which I didn't have until about half an hour ago, needs to inform the next review of the piece and I'll need to place anchors for the logic to stand throughout.
