His Dark Materials BBC: episode 1 (spoilers, esp. from the books)

I'm so excited about this TV show!! The trilogy is among my 10 favorite series of books ever. I've read the first one at 10 years-old, I've been in the fandom for a long time (I've even written fanfictions, and not only dæmon AUs - not that there's something wrong with it, btw) and I regularly reread the books, especially the third one. The movie disappointed me, so my expectations were high. Let's see my first impressions:

The opening was gorgeous. So much foreshadowing! Dust, angels, parallel universes, Cittagaze, mulefas, Will Parry, the subtle knife, the amber spyglass... I was so hyped

The aesthetics are old and rusty, as expected. The movie was way too clean and proper. Now, there's dirt everywhere and it feels real

also everyone isn't white, which is a relief because a whole parallel universe without Black people at all would be weird and disturbing

The Jordan College's Master was a nervous wreck and I liked him a lot

oh and I kinda ship the Master and the Librarian now? Whoops

Lord Asriel made me so emotional. He tries to be a good dad but he's a shitty one. James McAvoy really gets him.

Lyra was feral and it was beautiful

but now she actually wants to travel and to go to the North?? WTF

also we don't get to see Mrs Coulter as a Gobbler, so we don't feel rightful terror when we see her again

the golden monkey wasn't scary. -1/10

not enough dæmons, but it's for budget reasons, I guess

on the other hand, dæmons were beautiful when we saw them, especially Stelmaria and of course, Pantalaimon

I'm too emotionally involved about this kid, although I know how it's gonna end. noooooooo

Marisa Coulter's expression when Lyra hugged her was incredible. She went so soft

also it's the perfect Marisa Coulter and I'm in love with her even if I know how shady she is

In conclusion, it was a very nice pilot episode and I can't wait to see more!

ok but hes literally everything? hes so much more than only my icon or an artist i admire he feels more of a best friend or a guardian angel :’) he never stops to amaze me with his strength and his amazing heart and with how talented he is and i feel so so privileged to be his fan :’) there are really not enough words to describe how much he means to me and how much i love him?? he has given me so much and im eternally grateful for that and ill just always support and love him
