Another ramble sorta related: Imagine Riku playing the cello for Sora…..now that’s a nice sight to imagine. He’d be playing some kind of love song and Sora wouldn’t know it and it’s just so,,,sweet and sad. All until they start dating, then Sora finds out that it’s a LOVE song (maybe even about confessing-) and he’s like “OH THAts what it is about?? I love you too :)”. Something around those lines anyways-

And imagine??? Riku took it up as a kid???? As in smol Riku an Sora??? And then he grows up and does what I said above??? Literally??? Nomura please.

Random AkuRoku headcanon?

So for someone whose first game was KHII, Akuroku is really important to me. I know a ton of people who are new to the fandom consider this ship 'problematic' but honestly, I don't think they actually see anything but a theoretical age gap. Every single time I write Akuroku, Axel is like a year or two older, at the oldest 3. I mean, the game doesn't really have ages. Would it be weird if they got together in game? A little. I mean I don't think that would ever, ever happen, but Axels age is so ambiguous. Real age? I can't say more than 22? 24? I guess? But thinking that way, wouldnt Roxas be 2? Its about context. And nuance. And realizing that when ages are weird like that, it depends on what the shipper thinks the age difference is. I only ever put them in situations with them a year or two apart. People in this fandom have done a lot worse. Any ship with any form of Xehanort is like so much worse tbh. Maybe with older members of Org XIII, but I know that's not what a lot of people ship. Plus having ships where people actually like each other are way less problematic than ships that are riddled with abuse. (¬_¬)

Speaking of actually liking each other, I know in the past, people made Roxas a tsudere bitch and Axel a jerky bad boy. (Ah 2008 am I right?) I mean, I used to think like that too, when I was a naive idiot 13 year old. But really the best thing about Akuroku to me was always how Axel became a dork and Roxas followed him around like a baby chick. In AUs where they meet at a young age, Roxas thinks Axel is so cool, and Axel takes him (and Xion too for that matter) under his wing. As they get older, they realize that he's a loser and they become sassy and sarcastic instead of idolizing him. Instead of being a tsudere bitch who beats him up and calls him stupid and tells him 'I don't like u baka😠' (I don't know if u can tell, but I have come to loathe tsuderes. Like in general. I like my ships to actually like each other's presence), he teases him, doesn't let him do stupid crap, but loves just chilling with him. And Axels not some asshole who does whatever no matter the law or people's feelings, he's a dork whose punk and laid back and loves to mess around and sometimes doesn't think before he does something, but would never hurt someone he cares for (on purpose at least)

They tend to skate everywhere, play video games, and chill in weird places eating ice cream talking about weird shit. They have this friendship where they can both drop their walls and be silly with each other. They both have insecurities that cause them to act tough in public, but theyre both soft and hurt very easily. They have accepted each others flaws and masks, and adore seeing the other when theyre fully relaxed and truly happy. (Theyre like that with Xion too, they love their sibling. They eventually can be that way with Sora and Isa too. They have insecurities about them theyre too afraid to confront them about. They love their brothers, and they'll be themselves around them again in the future)

They're playful and teasing, yet loving and supportive, like the friends they've always been. In private, theyre more mellow and mushy with each other, yet the fire they have isn't gone, its just more passionate than anything. The base of any good relationship is the trust and love from friendship. No power imbalances, no abuse, no trauma, but real warm comforting love. Its something I will always defend not just in fiction but real life too. Relationships aren't black and white. (Also think about if a ship is really a problem before u start hating. Because people will go hating on a ship for small details. Plus every shipper is different, someone could be shipping Sokai or Soriku in an awful way but people wouldn't bat an eye just because its a good ship. I've seen people make Riku an asshole, Kairi a bitch, Sora in no way resemble himself whatsoever and then they have terrible relationships with abuse but still say theyre in love. That's not okay either, but that's not something people would ever call out. People can't usually be bothered to think about shipping in a nuanced way, but it would great for fandom spaces if they tried.)

By the way, I'm sorry I went into this ask, but I've been thinking about this for a while, and started venting. Akuroku is dear to me, and seeing it get disowned by the fandom hurt. But I at least know I can keep shipping what I love no matter what, and will keep it wholesome not for the fandom's sake, but my own.

Edit because I forgot something huge cuz I was venting: Pedophilia is wrong and stopping pedophilic ships is good. But you should really think if it really is pedophilia. Because the real enemy is adults who are in relationships with teens that cause unhealthy power imbalances. Please focus on actually hating on those ships with actual adults and teens/kids. This is where nuance comes in. With unclear stuff, please look at how someone is shipping it. Because if someone is shipping Akuroku with the huge age difference, Axel having control because of his age, and Roxas following him because he's older, stop them, they are a pedo. Most Akuroku shippers aren't this, but people think so because they came into the fandom late and only see a possible number while people who have been here forever can still remember when they had no ages and felt close in age.

This goes for any ship. Look at peoples work and draw conclusions. A ship in one person's hand can look very different in someone else's.
