What are your favorite jokes in FOP?
Hmm… Just about every episode has something that amuses me, even the episodes I dislike. There are so many to choose from I wouldn’t be able to fit them in one post.
I normally favor verbal jokes, but there’s one visual gag that really makes me lose my mind… In “Viral Videots,” Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda are outside Crocker’s house looking through the window. For some reason they can’t use magic to affect the Crocker Cave. In a panicked voice, Wanda theorizes that Crocker insulated it with some kind of butterfly net material, and in the middle of her sentence the camera just moves out to show the entire house is poorly covered by a butterfly net.

Speaking of Crocker, I love the moment in “Fairly Old Parent” when Timmy has successfully infiltrated Crocker’s house, but he runs into Mr. Crocker. Timmy says, “Uh, what brings you here?” to which Crocker snaps “It’s MY house!”
Crocker can’t open child-proof lids and it makes me laugh.
The Bingo joke in “Most Wanted Wish” is so well done. I’ve shown it to different friends and family members and no one ever sees it coming. The opening scene in the Musical with Flappy’s parents is an excellent example of parody done right. The first half of “Dog Gone” is just spot on my sense of humor, especially when Leadly starts choking and Mr. Turner’s reaction is to give him Semaphore flags so he can communicate… and Leadly actually tries to use them.
“Pumpkin Taxi: Orange on the outside, seedy on the inside” is so funny.
I’m simple… when Chloe snaps and yells at her “kids” in “Dimmsdale Daze” and they cry and she stomps off, then Mr. Turner says “Wow, that was some TERRIBLE parenting… Who wants to play with knives?” and has two fistfuls of knives that immediately cheer the kids up… I love that.
Timmy is the perfect comedic straight man in “Booby Trapped” when Chloe has this massive heart-to-heart with their parents and Timmy interjects every few sentences to yell at them because everyone is sinking in quicksand. Chloe literally has to dig out her mom’s mouth so they can continue this heart-to-heart and they’re hugging and crying and Timmy is just standing there in disbelief.
Love the moment in “Crockin’ the House” where Timmy and Crocker make a deal that Crocker will give him a B on his community service project if Timmy teaches him how to have fun. Chloe LAUNCHES herself from under the couch and begs to share what she did for her project and… the dialogue is just fantastic.
Chloe: I actually did TWO projects.
Crocker: You can make it three by taking me to the hospital, because I think you just gave me a HEART ATTACK.
Timmy: Okay. For a B, I’ll teach you how to have fun.
Chloe: OOH! You know what’s fun?!?

Crocker (whispered to Timmy): Get rid of the girl and I’ll give you a B+
Chloe’s parents guilt-trip her constantly. As a result, she has a hard time recognizing when she should feel guilty for things when her parents don’t guilt her (like when they didn’t catch her stealing a toy). Apparently if she didn’t have godparents who helped her with that, her alternate future is rebelling against her parents, refusing to recycle, stealing candy from babies, joining a gang, and it spirals from there. Timmy’s response to watching Alt Chloe interact with her gang was “I still don’t know where you found six kids with eye patches.”
The running gag in “Spellementary School” is that everyone praises “Foop,” which Foop cheers at, but then the next sentence they reveal they’re actually praising “Foop spelled backwards” (Poof). For some reason I forgot this was the running gag the first time I watched the episode, so when Foop was voted class president I was stunned. In an instant, I was trying to calculate what I could write in fanfics that involved him being class president and whether he would still try to be one in high school. Then it’s revealed they voted for “Foop spelled backwards.” Foop throws his head back and slams his fists on his desk, screaming “EVERY TIME!” I’ve always remembered that because I fell for it too.
On that note, I can’t help but laugh every episode where Foop gives a lengthy speech and Poof follows it with a “Poof poof!” and everyone cheers, to Foop’s annoyance. It’s extra funny when you remember Foop can’t understand what Poof says, and instead puts words in his mouth and then fights him (although he can tell when Poof is swearing).
I live for good Cosmo jokes. Any time Cosmo is self-aware enough to understand what’s happening, his reactions are hilarious.
Example: When Juandissimo loses his house at the end of “Jerk of All Trades,” he asks Wanda if he can stay with her. Cosmo, instantly catching the flirt in his voice, cheerfully agrees and offers to show Juandissimo to his room… before throwing him in the freezer and slamming the door. Comedy gold.
In “Sooper Poof” Wanda informs Cosmo that Timmy’s parents found Poof while he was unconscious. He immediately snaps awake and screams “Oh no! Those two have no idea how to raise a child!” and then he just… looks at Timmy. That absolutely needed to be a Fairly OddParents joke I love it.
And THIS joke from “I Dream of Cosmo” (in captioned screenshot form).
A longer favorite: the running gag in “Super Zero” was news reporter Chet Ubetcha saying, “Well, stick me in a dress and call me Sally!” and similar expressions of surprise. Cosmo refers to him as Sally throughout the episode. At one point, Chet cries for help and Cosmo, who’s decided to be a superhero, comes to his rescue. Turns out Chet forgot where he parked, so Cosmo carries him to his car. But Chet commandeers the trip and has Cosmo take him to the nearby Dimmsdale Dam so he can do a news report. Cosmo politely holds him while he does this, but the report is about what a failed superhero Cosmo is, and in the end Chet finishes with “In this reporter’s opinion Super Not-Cosmo should sit in the corner!”
Cosmo is aghast. Here he is trying to be a nice person and thanks to Chet, everyone is now yelling at him. He promptly says “There’s your car, Sally,” and drops Chet in the Dimmsdale Volcano asdfghjkl
(Also I love how in that episode Chet didn’t even remember there was a Dimmsdale Dam or a Dimmsdale Volcano… a three-season throwback to “Nega-Timmy” when the volcano and dam are indeed next to each other.)
One of my all-time favorite jokes is in “Formula For Disaster” when Timmy and Cosmo have Timmy’s unconscious parents tied up with string. Cosmo tries to make Mrs. Turner a convincing puppet by putting on make-up (poorly) but he can’t move her legs so he just drags her across the floor while screaming “To the kitchen!” and she’s all splayed out and a mildly confused Crocker just follows her with nothing but his eyes.
