#I love our heritage and cultural monuments

That paving certainly isn't old. That looks like a section of high street that has been pedestrianised some time during the last 50 years. The two Greggs and the amusement arcade *might* be in 19th century buildings? Maybe? But crucially ones without a single original feature preserved. The point is that this is a real place, and it's crass and ugly as opposed to the idealised rural idea of "real" England.
Also, this is Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland.
Idk why but i find this funny even tho i need context
#it's a very good photo and I was entertained by it and completely agreed with its message but that isn't england either#geographically speaking#the point is that calling houses that only bankers can afford 'real england' is stupid#I love our heritage and cultural monuments#I love how many old buildings *are* preserved#it is undoubtedly far lovelier to pootle round the gorgeous old centre of Winchester than to go shopping in Southampton#(which was flattened in ww2 and rebuilt hideously in the 60s)#but pretending one is real england and the other doesn't exist is stupid small-minded toryism

Today is World Heritage Day
Oiginally known as the International Monuments and Sites Da it is a global celebration of this planet’s heritage. It’s all about increasing the awareness of the importance of the diversity of cultural and natural heritage and preserving this heritage for future generations..
In Scotland we’re lucky enough to have no less than six UNESCO World Heritage Sites. they are;
St Kilda.
The remote Hebridean island archipelago is one of only two-dozen global locations with World Heritage Status for both natural and cultural significance.
The archipelago shares this honour with natural and cultural wonders such as the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu in Peru and Mount Athos in Greece.
I'd love to visit, but it is a wee bit too expensive for me.
Edinburgh Old and New Towns.
Some people have asked me which part of Edinburgh is covered by this title, well the simple answer is all of it!
The capital is a city of many eras, and its World Heritage Site comprises both the old and new towns. The Auld Toon has preserved much of its medieval street plan and Reformation-era buildings along the wynds of the Royal Mile.
The (relatively) New town contrasts this perfectly with neoclassical and Georgian architecture in regimented order.
Antonine Wall.
I've explored many parts of the wall. Constructed around 142 AD by the Romans, the Antonine Wall marked the north-west frontier of their empire. Stretching from the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde, the Antonine Wall separated the civilised Romans from the wild Caledonians.
The Heart of Neolithic Orkney
I've not visited The Northen Isles as yet, plans were in the early stages to go this year, but my friend ended up in hospita and is still recuprating, hopefully we can get something sorted when she becomes more able.
The Orkney mainland is synonymous with archaeology. It boasts the mysterious standing stones at the Ring of Brodgar and megaliths at Standing Stones of Stenness, as well as the 5,000-year-old settlement of Skara Brae and chambered cairn and passage grave of Maeshowe. Together these four sites form the heart of Neolithic Orkney, which was given World Heritage status in 1999.
The Forth Bridge
I remember as a bairn drawing and painting the bridge with a steam train going over it, but the train going over the "bumps!"
One of our most iconic and beloved bridges, the Forth Bridge was named a World Heritage Site in 2015 just after its 125th anniversary. The bridge was one of the most ambitious projects of its kind ever attempted at the time. When it opened it had the longest single cantilever bridge span in the world.
New Lanark
The last mill closed in the 1960s but a restoration programme saved the 18th-century village from falling into dilapidation.
It is an early example of utopian socialism in Scotland as well as a planned settlement – making New Lanark an important milestone in the historical development of urban planning. I have never visited, I must say I much prefer my ruined castles and abbeys.

See I just don't think Dawntrail particularly pulls its punches on the horrors of the Alexandrian invasion--not when the whole aesthetic of Heritage Found is designed to be dark and sinister, not when the raid series seems to be foreshadowing the end of the soul economy, not when all the Scions and Wuk Lamat have dialogue about how disturbing they find it, and not when shutting down Living Memory is a major plot point, a firm narrative condemnation of the whole enterprise. It's certainly fair to wish that, for example, Erenville had gotten more screentime, but his whole journey of learning the awful truth about his mother and his home is very much presented as one of dawning horror.
No, what Dawntrail actually pulls its punches on, and hard, is the deleterious effects of foreign and particularly Sharlayan influences on Turali cultures and ways of life. This I think is why why everything in Shaaloani immediately rubbed me the wrong way, even before I'd seen the Alexandria plot unfold. Even without explicit colonization, we see how outside influence and the demand for ceruleum has changed the very landscape of Xak Tural, forced its indigenous cultures to the outskirts. And yet Shaaloani refuses to commit to its own premise in any meaningful way. It can't even commit to the shallow conceit of the Wild West, and thus we get the impossibly stupid scenario of cowboys dueling with rubber bullets.
And then the dome appears: an eerie, otherworldly threat. The invaders from another world. Don't worry about the effects of ceruleum mining on the local wildlife. Don't worry about what communities these mining towns have replaced and displaced. Don't question the decision to blend an explicitly colonial American culture with indigenous-inspired names; don't ask whether "Old West but no colonialism, really, we promise" even makes sense as a premise. Don't worry about it. The real enemies are over there, in the cyberpunk dystopia.
In light of this sort of "no, really, look over there!" storytelling, other details that might otherwise have felt innoccuous enough become suspect to me: Ketenramm as the Good Explorer who has integrated himself into Turali culture and is BFFs with the Dawnservant and would never do a colonialism. The Shetona character from one of the role quests whose life is changed by learning that spectacles are a thing because apparently it's only in Tural that no one has invented them. The explanation for aetherytes existing in Tural--a necessity for gameplay reason, but to make them a Sharlayan export rather than having the Turali simply have invented their own is a choice that was made. The creators clearly wanted to draw from real world influences, cultures, and history, but also chose to stop short of examining the implications of those influences in any areas where it might make the familiar nations of our favorite characters culpable.
I loved Dawntrail and still have great affection for it for many reasons, but imo Shaaloani is the real weak link, the most obvious example of a desire to draw from real world influences while avoiding their implications, a glaring monument to questions the story declines to ask.
#dawntrail critical#ffxiv critical#afk by the aetheryte#cleaning out the drafts so yeah i guess i'll post this#dawntrail spoilers

Nature and Her Lovely Distractions
Ever since I was young, nature has been a large distraction for me. I remember being in the middle of a soccer game at 8 years old and stopping to lay on the field and pick dandelions instead. To this day, in each of my classes I force myself to sit far from the windows because I get distracted by the birds and the plants I see, trying to name all the species I know. Through these distractions my curiosity has grown, leading me to my major in Biological sciences with special interest in plant science. I am forever grateful for each-and-every-one of these happy diversions, as they have made me who I am today.
Due to my natural interest in my surrounding flora and fauna, I would have to say I developed my own "sense of place" in nature. As described in the textbook, an interpreter helps others apply knowledge and significance to a particular location or area of nature (Beck et al. 2018). I have always enjoyed questioning the "why does that grow that way?" or "How could nature produce that?" and searching for an answer to these questions, in this way I have been my own interpreter for some time.
However, I cannot take all the credit! My mother has always given me the blessing of travel, and as a kid I hated visiting every castle and church in new places, not seeing the significance of it. Now reflecting, my mom was providing me with her interpretations and knowledge of so many monuments and sharing her admiration for historical buildings. Now that I have grown, I try to visit every cool church/castle/monument I see on vacation to appreciate the history and detail of these architectural masterpieces. Most recently, my family visited Panama and saw some beautiful places.
Although I truly appreciate my mom's interests in historically significant destinations, my true interest will always lay in the natural aspects of the world. I love to look at different plant species and the details in their leaves, then try to guess what biological function their development has served them! I always do research after to prove myself right, I use nature as a never-ending puzzle of sorts. While some find nature painfully boring, I think it's the most interesting part of our world. I love to educate my friends and tell them cool facts I know when certain topics come up (I guess this class was made for me). My place in nature has always been as a wide-eyed observer, just happy to see the process unfold.
Thank you for reading! Enjoy some photos of cool little guys I found exploring Panama :)

Week 0: Ireland before the Program!
Hello, hello! It is Declan McGrath here checking in before my program officially starts at UCD in Dublin this Sunday. I am so incredibly excited to begin this program and meet all of the amazing people that are going to be in this program with me as well as other people from around the world and Ireland.
First, a little bit about myself. I am a first-year mechanical engineering undergraduate. I absolutely love to cook and try new foods, read, play videogames, take pictures on my Polaroid cameras (which I will most likely be sharing with you all throughout the program!), and just all around hang out! Up until this point, I have never actually left the United States so this trip is going to be an entirely new experience for me! From trying all the new and different foods to exploring a different culture to meeting new people it is all going to be brand new. The program I am a part of is the IPE: Big 10 STEM and Irish Studies in Dublin at University College Dublin. This program has me taking Physics 2 lecture and lab as well as a History of Modern Ireland course which both meet requirements for my major.
I actually arrived in Ireland two weeks before my program started and have been exploring Ireland a lot! My family has a lot of Irish roots and so when I got confirmation that I was accepted into the program my family almost immediately began planning a family trip there before the program started. We drove from Michigan across the border to Canada to catch a flight alllll the way to Dublin. We landed in Dublin at around 9 AM (incredibly jetlagged) but began to make the most of our time in Dublin by exploring the various pubs, restaurants, and stores throughout the city while also visiting some amazing national monuments and museums. We walked through the rain to the famous Temple Bar Pub in Dublin where I got some amazing Irish fish and chips! All of the food I have had in Dublin has been amazing actually. There are so many ice cream stores in every city and some even have something called “bubble waffle” which is essentially an extra sweet waffle with bubbles in it and coated in ice cream. And the soft serve ice cream they have here is absolutely amazing, probably better than the US’s (and that’s coming from a guy who used to work at a Dairy Queen!).
After a couple days in the city we took a trip out into the Irish countryside to a small AirBnB in Terryglass. We picked up a rental car and I helped navigate my dad out of the city and into the countryside. It was so weird sitting on the left side of the car and not being the one driving and even weirder to see all the cars driving on the opposite side of the road. That is honestly the biggest thing that I do not think I will ever get used to while abroad, so it is probably a very good thing that I will not be driving at all on this trip. While out in Terryglass my family and I made a trip out to Cashel Rock to see the final resting place of Miler McGrath, an ancestor of mine with way too many great’s in front of grandpa for me to type out. It was very cool to see this amazing fort and also learn some things about my heritage. I could keep going on about all these things I did before the program even starts but I don’t want to spoil Ireland for y’all before the program even starts!
I am really, really excited for the program to start and I have been thinking a lot about all of the things I want to do during this program. So much so that I made a list!
Get to know the people on the trip with me! There are a whole bunch of people that I have never met before that are going on this same journey and I want to take the time and get to know all of them.
Travel! Travel between European countries is supposed to be really affordable and I want to take full advantage of the free time that this program has to offer by taking weekend trips with other program members.
Get some awesome photos with my Polaroids! I brought a lot of film with me on this trip and somehow managed to burn through almost all of it before the program began :’) so I want to buy some more film and continue to take photos of all the amazing sights Ireland has to offer.
Pass my classes! This trip is not just about having a blast in Europe, it is also an opportunity to learn a lot in subjects that I am genuinely interested in. I have always been interested in physics and (from what little I was able to glean from short museum trips) Irish history is fascinating.
I am slightly nervous about adapting to the fast-paced environment of Dublin. The city is always bustling with activity and it can be a little bit hectic but I am ready and excited to face it head on. Though I am also a little nervous about getting lost in the city. I have a habit of slightly getting sidetracked (especially when there are so many cool stores all around) while walking around but hopefully I can make some friends on the program that can help me get from A to B with as few side quests as possible.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to read my blog post! I am so excited for this program to begin, travel to new places, and meet new people. Until next time!
~Declan McGrath

Gina Experiences: a start-up travel booking app for unique travel experiences in Naga City and Bicol
If you are a frequent traveler and familiar with Klook, a booking app for travel experiences, then you'll might be interested with Gina Experiences as well. Gina is a start-up travel company for unique travel experiences here in Naga City and Bicol. And who would have thought that a 20-year old would be able to come-up with the idea of a start-up business that offers unique travel experiences especially in our hometown, Naga City, Camarines Sur, Bicol, Philippines.
I admit, it was bit difficult to market and promote Naga City to foreign and local tourists/travelers because there seems to be nothing much to see here in our small city. Like if you will be going to visit Bicol, you would rather visit Albay or other municipalities in Camarines Sur for tourism. Naga City doesn't seem to offer much in tourism except Pilgrimage Tour and Penafrancia Festival. If you want to go for nature and adventure trips, you have to go outside Naga City since we also do not have beaches. However, we also do have hotsprings and Malabsay Falls on the upland of Naga City (Panicuason and Carolina).
When I first encountered Gina, I was just able to see a post about them having a free walking heritage tour in Naga City. Off course, I immediately signed up for it because I am interested in history and even though I grew up knowing about the history of Naga and other historical places here in our beloved pilgrim city, I knew that I will be able to learn something new from these people too.
WALKING HERITAGE TOUR EXPERIENCE
It was last July 2022, when Gina held a first walking heritage tour in Naga City. As far as I know it was the pilot of Gina offering this king experience.
Growing up in Naga City, I have always been to these places and knew its history at heart. But every time I get to join group tours in Naga, I get to know more about it and always learn something new from different tour guides. I always get to see Naga City in a new perspective from different storytellers.
Walking tours are a fun way to also learn about history. We will always go back to these places with new learnings and reconnect with our origins as Nagueños. We can say that this was once this and that or this place is where that historic event happened.
As Naga slowly adapts to modernization, I realized that traces of history and cultural heritage are slowly diminishing. But having this kind of tour is one way of preserving them especially its stories. History can be found not just in architecture or monuments but also in people. We became part of history as we protect, preserve and learn from it.
SUNFLOWER FARM EXPERIENCE
Upon having to experience a walking heritage tour with Gina, I love the fact that they created new experience to explore with them. I have always wanted to visited the Sunflower farm in Pacol, Naga City. However, I knew I would need a service to go there. In fact, going there through public transportation doesn’t seem feasible. It is hard to go there via public transporation cause there are hardly jeeps going there.
It was some time in February 2023 when I decided to book with Gina for Sunflower Expeprience. I considered it a solo gaming tour for Valentine’s Day. I was also probably just bored that I went there on my own but with help of Gina off course to arrange transpo and a tour at the Sunflower farm.
The sunflowers last February were in full bloom there at Sunflower Farm in Pacol, Naga City! The Sunflower Farm Experience through Gina had a fun learning experience about the planting, cultivating and harvesting of these flowers. Also, I got learn how to arrange a bouquet from Ma'am Jeanelyn Ador, a sunflower farmer because they have a sunflower bouquet workshop too.
One thing that I really like from this package is that it was not just about the flowers and the aesthetics. I like that we also get to interact with local farmers and know more about the flowers that they plant. The demand for flowers is seasonal. It is in demand mostly during Valentine's Day, Holy Week and Undas. At least through this, we get to support their livelihood too either way. This short visit made me interested in flowers and farming. Moreso, here we also get to learn how to arrange a bouquet. I did mine with the help of Ma'am Jeanelyn. (I gave the sunflower bouquet I made to mama after. Hehe)
BICOL CULINARY EXPERIENCE
Some time this July, I was invited along with a fellow influencers and media friends for the pilot of Bicol Culinary Experience that Gina was offering. In partnership with Pechelitos, Gina was able to create a new experience and activities to offer that highly promotes culinary and gastronomic tourism of Naga.
At the Bicol Culinary Experience, we get to learn how to cook Bicol delicacies and experience how to prepare it hands-on from Pechelitos’ in-house chef, Chef Hugo San Juan. The Bicolano dishes we prepared were Kinalas, Bopis, Kinunot and Ginataang Santol.
The Bicol Culinary Experience with Gina at Pechelitos is such an immersive experience because it gives you a fun and exciting hands-on experience in the preparation of authentic local Bicolano dishes. You can get involve in the step-by-step process with the guidance of the chef and unlock the secrets to achieving their authentic flavor.
Gina’s Bicol Culinary Experience is the first to offer this experience here that highly promotes culinary tourism and helps preserve our culinary heritage.
One thing I really like about this experience is that we get to learn something new today. (Ps. Dae po ako tatao magluto haha) Moreso, we get to appreciate the art of cooking Bicolano dishes which is a representation of the region's unique flavors and culinary heritage through this kind of activity.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Gina also offers other different kinds of activities like Walwal Tours where in you can go bar hopping, the Blood Moon Experience in Camaligan last year where in you can watch and observe the Blood Moon and Eclipse at Camaligan River Park with the help of a telescope and an expert explaining about the natural phenomenon, Naga Pilgrimage Tour which you get to visit all the historical churches in Naga, Isarog Hiking Experience where you can hike to experience the cloud of seas at the summit of My. Isarog, and the Mulberry Island Experience in Caramoan where you can immerse in the islander life with the locals doing what they do and learn from them.
I love the initiatives of Gina because they create linkages with local tourism stakeholders/service providers while at the same time give tourists/travelers new perspectives and authentic experienced that they’ll surely enjoy.
ABOUT GINA
Gina was founded by Gwen Joson, a 20-year old marketing student of University of Sto. Tomas Manila (UST). According to her it was in the early 2021 when she thought of creating ways to help those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic especially in the tourism sector. She stressed that, she knew a lot of people and establishments that provides tourism services who were gravely affected by the pandemic. She wanted to help them and at the same time enhance local tourism and the community they belong it.
Gwen also shared that there has been a gap between tourism services providers and tourists/travelers. "Pag tourist ka sa isang lugar, hindi mo alam kung saan ka talaga pupunta. Medyo kulang ang available sa internet na info or how to get to places or kung saan ba magandang pumunta and ano ang magandang gawin dito. Also hindi rin siya madaling mahanap as a tourist or kung wala kang kakilala sa lugar." She said.
"With Gina, we wanted to give you yung freedom to design your travel. To explore the world, explore the Philippines, yung communities and yung ma-ooffer nila na mga labas sa ordinary. Lalo yung mga experiences na tulad nito na hindi mo naman talaga mahahanap sa iba ." She also added.
For the meantime, Gina is focused in offering travel experiences in Naga City and Bicol. Gwen emphasized that she wanted to start and focus first in the place where she grew up and where she is from. She is hopeful that she can eventually expand her business to the entire Philippines.
What makes Gina different from a travel agency is that they offer unique experiences and activities that you can book. You can only book the activities you want. Unlike when you are booking tour packages in travel agencies, you follow a strict itinerary. You might have something in your itinerary that might be not in preference. Gina is like booking at Klook but more localized and advocates local tourism by immersing as well in the local culture of communities.
According to Gwen, they are currently reaching out to potential market through Facebook and other social media platforms like Instagram. The goal is to have an app but since they only started their operations last January 2022, they'll be on social media platform for the meantime until the app is created.
I've asked Gwen what does it feel like to be a young CEO of a start-up business, she answered, "I’m very grateful that I have people who support talaga. Kasi kailagan talaga yung maraming sumusuporta kasi it is not easy to keep moving forward without support. I have to balance school and itong sa business. Right now, I’m looking forward on growing the business kasi yung team naming is very capable. As a CEO, I want to be able to give justice sa hard work and talents nila and it comes with helping our local community to grow the tourism of Naga."
As of per writing, Gina is composed of 5 members: Gwen Joson (CEO), Oliver Rubi (Tech), Caleb Andaya (Operations), Danica Austero (Brand and Design), and Harry Avenido (Business Development). Who would have thought that this team of young minds would be the hope in revamping local tourism industry and communities affected by the pandemic. As we embrace the new normal and move forward to post-pandemic era, I have hope we can put into the map that there is more to Naga and Bicol than what we already know. I can see that Gina has a lot of potential and I know that there are new and exciting things to look forward to for this start-up group.
Let us continue to support Gina and their initiatives and endeavors as they offer their tourism services.

Week 5:
Note* I am currently housebound and wasn't able to actually go to the monument and take pictures
1.) The statue's placement is indeed essential. It is in a lovely, hectic park environment, and the surrounding neighborhood bears links to Eleanor Roosevelt's legacy. She spent her time in New York, living adjacent to East 74th Street. Though it is not in the most tourist-heavy area of the city, its proximity represents her personal history. It lets guests interact with the monument in natural, calm surroundings. But it might not draw as much attention as monuments in locations like Central Park, restricting its exposure to mostly residents and those already aware of her importance.
2.) The piece honors Eleanor Roosevelt, a powerful first lady, diplomat, and human rights activist. Her enormous contribution to forming women's rights, human rights, and UN work helped her to be selected. The sculpture depicts her seated and reflective posture, reflecting her intelligent and deliberate character as well as her public servant and intellectual force function. Representing a person who supported social justice concerns all her life, this monument honors her legacy of compassion, activity, and leadership.
3.) Penelope Jencks, an American sculptor noted for public monument creation, is the creator of this work. Though she is not as globally known as some other modern sculptors, she is highly appreciated for her public works. Other noteworthy works by Jencks include the Henry David Thoreau monument at Walden Pond, Massachusetts. Although her work is notable in American public art, she might not be as often displayed in important worldwide collections. Still, her contributions to art history—especially in memorial sculpture—are acknowledged here in the United States.
4.) Monuments have numerous purposes. They preserve the remembrance of people or events that molded civilization and physically reflect history and values. By reminding people of critical historical events or persons that should not be forgotten, monuments help shape public consciousness, education, and cultural legacy. They give communities continuity and identity by igniting conversation about the past, present, and future. Monuments provide venues for people to gather to honor common heritage and inspire and challenge thought.
5.) Should I erect a monument, I could decide to pay tribute to young activists—more significantly, those engaged in climate action—such as the plaintiffs in the Juliana v. United States or Held v. Montana cases. These young leaders reflect the future, and their struggle for climate justice is a vital concern of ours now.
6.) To symbolize environmental stewardship, the dynamic design can show an abstract group of young children clutching symbolic objects like leaves, water, or solar panels. It stresses togetherness and hope, highlighting young people's combined strength. It would be located in front of an environmental research facility or on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., a somewhat conspicuous spot. This arrangement would highlight their cause's significance and encourage more respect for their labor among the next generations.

Architectural Battles: The Legacy of Tigerman and Gehry in Wimbledon
In the updated "Bombs Away" collage, Frank Gehry and Stanley Tigerman stand at odds over the proposed Wimbledon concert hall, with the looming threat of an atom bomb symbolizing the potential cultural fallout. This new addition intensifies the dialogue initiated by Tigerman, blending personal conviction with architectural critique.
Stanley Tigerman, often seen as a prophet within the architectural community, has always emphasized the importance of architects over mere structures. His works reflect a deep respect for the transformative power of genuine architectural vision, rather than the blind replication of past styles. His final collage, "Bombs Away," not only revisited themes from his earlier work, "The Titanic," but also presented a stark critique of contemporary architectural practices. By rescuing Mies van der Rohe’s Crown Hall from the metaphorical waters and setting it next to Gehry's Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Tigerman underscored the ongoing clash between modernist purity and postmodern eclecticism.
The new collage featuring Gehry and Tigerman at loggerheads over the Wimbledon scheme adds a fresh layer to this narrative. Their confrontation over Gehry’s proposed concert hall in Wimbledon encapsulates the tensions between innovation and heritage, between groundbreaking design and community preservation. Tigerman’s symbolic atom bomb represents the potential disruption such bold architectural statements could have on the established cultural landscape.
As an architect deeply invested in Wimbledon’s heritage, I, Charles Pigott, find myself in the midst of this debate. Living with my family in a house we renovated 15 years ago, the potential arrival of Gehry’s monumental project in our town center stirs a complex array of emotions. While I admire Gehry’s vision and recognize the transformative potential of his work, I am also wary of the cultural upheaval it may cause.
Gehry’s vision for the Wimbledon concert hall is undeniably ambitious. His proposal includes a state-of-the-art facility designed to accommodate a wide range of musical genres and educational programs. The promise of a 1,250-seat main hall, flexible performance spaces, and advanced recording facilities suggests a significant cultural investment in Wimbledon’s future. However, this grand vision also raises concerns about the impact on our community’s identity and heritage.
The imagery of an atom bomb in Tigerman’s collage serves as a poignant reminder of the stakes involved. It suggests that without careful consideration, such projects can obliterate the nuanced cultural fabric of a community, much like an atomic blast. This allegorical warning invites us to reflect on the balance between preserving our heritage and embracing innovation.
To articulate my concerns, I turn to the timeless language of poetry. Shakespeare’s words resonate deeply, capturing the delicate interplay of music, memory, and love:
> If music be the food of love, play on,
> And let the melody transcend the mortal veil,
> For she, adorned in numbers, lies as one,
> With secrets etched, a lover's sweet detail.
>
> Her canine guardian, loyal at her side,
> In silent witness of this tender art,
> While he, with skill and fervor, does abide,
> To play the organ, guided by her chart.
>
> Oh, music, weave your magic through the air,
> Unite the numbers with the lover's plea,
> For in this sacred act, they both shall share,
> A timeless bond, in harmony, set free.
These lines reflect my hope for a harmonious integration of Gehry’s vision with Wimbledon’s rich heritage. While I acknowledge the potential benefits of Gehry’s concert hall, I advocate for a thoughtful dialogue that respects our community’s history and preserves its unique character.
As we navigate this pivotal moment, I call upon our community and the architectural world to consider the long-term impact of our choices. Inspired by Stanley Tigerman’s boldness and commitment to architectural integrity, let us strive to create spaces that honor our past, enrich our present, and inspire our future. In doing so, we can ensure that Wimbledon remains a place where innovation and tradition coexist in a delicate, timeless balance.
