check-in tag!
I was tagged by @chironmybeloved and @tyrus-redlyn thank you both so much and sorry this is very late 💜 (I’m trying to catch up on stuff lol)
1. why did you choose your url?
it’s a spongebob reference! specifically to the secret box episode. coming up with names is super difficult for me so I probably won’t change it, especially since I started signing my art with it and all
2. any side-blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
SO TECHNICALLY this IS a side blog and my main blog is @/miracufan but I don’t post stuff on that one anymore (@staff let people switch their primary and secondary blogs please) and I sometimes forget about it but i have one called @/heyheresyourref with no followers that i only reblog art references to because i was getting really annoyed that i could never find stuff i reblogged here when i searched for it
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
beginning of 2019 iirc
4. do you have a queue tag?
I don’t, I really only use queue if I’ve just posted a drawing and don’t want to bury it
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
um miraculous actually 😅 I started watching it after seeing some stuff about it online then I kept seeing screenshots of miraculous tumblr posts posted elsewhere and figured I should just go to the source lol
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?
I was really proud of that drawing and I love Willie and I love dandelions
7. why did you choose your header?
it’s a drawing i did of one of my favorite Andi Mack moments :)
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
um a post I deleted had 12k+ last I saw it but if that doesn’t count this one I made over a year ago still gets notes almost every day (you can tell how old it is because the fandom didn’t even have a ship name for rina yet)
9. how many mutuals do you have?
I don’t even know how you would figure this out
10. how many followers do you have?

The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two by Catherynne M. Valente- FULL REVIEW
This review is the complete version of its counterpart on GoodReads.
This book really disappointed me. The roughest thing is that it’s right in the middle of the series, so you have to read it if you want to continue. There are bright spots (Ell! Saturday!), and I can sense the incredible book Valente was trying to write, but overall, this was a flop. Would’ve been a DNF if I hadn’t promised myself I’d finish the series.
So, firstly: I’m a longtime fan of Fairyland, and I commonly list the first book and Valente herself as my favorite book and author. I had no negative preconceptions about the book going in. In fact, I know I have an irrational fear of series, and at first I thought my struggles with this book could be chalked up to that.
But I loved the second book. It was entertaining, a good follow-up, and a unique new story to explore. When I picked up the third book and only got a chapter in before forgetting about it, I had a lot of excuses—I was burned out. I didn’t like the Blue Wind, and I didn’t want to read about her. I was busy with school.
As it turns out, having picked the book up three years later and finished it this time, none of that was true. This time, I was yearning for more of Fairyland, I quite liked the Blue Wind, and I had ample time to read in.
It just wasn’t a good book.
I talk about planning/pantsing a lot, and that’s once again relevant. I’ll excerpt from my review of another book:
There are two types of NaNoWriMo writers: the planners, & the pantsers. Planners have an outline ready before they write, and pantsers go "by the seat of their pants"—very few, or even no, plans. Both have pros/cons; here I'll focus on a common pitfall for pantsers.
Almost every Western narrative… follows something akin to the 3-act structure. There is a main conflict which builds to a climax and is then resolved (think Star Wars’s Death Star.) For any good narrative, you need MOTIVATION-GOAL-CONFLICT—and occasionally stakes[.]
This book does not have a conflict.
So where do you find 300+ pages of writing? Just have something happen & see what comes next as a response!
The problem is that this makes an unworkable first draft. Things Happening =/= Satisfying Plot Arc. In editing, you have to take everything you've written and organize it into a plot shape, often cutting things that don't fit. (Planning is the opposite; tons of work upfront/you usually end up UNDERwriting.)
...The most common method of writing on Wattpad is pantsing. 99% of the time, writers write & then post chapters on a set schedule. Can't edit plot structure when you upload one chapter a week.
Now, I knew that Valente was a pantser before I read this book, and that she originally uploaded Fairylandone chapter a week. I was very impressed when I first found out; I don’t recall sensing any of these pitfalls in the two previous books. It is hard to write a book with no editing—it is damn well near impossible. Whether I liked this book or not, the first two are a triumph just for that. Valente has been writing this entire series with both hands tied behind her back and her eyes taped shut, and I have to commend her. Even my feelings of frustration are almost overshadowed by how impressed I am that it took three books for her to fail.
Valente herself acknowledged editing concerns in multiple / interviews. From the latter link:
I remember being at a convention right after it really hit, and somebody in the audience asked, “Well, you realize you can’t go back and change anything, because you’ve already posted it online.” And I said, “Oh, shit.” It had never occurred to me that that was gonna be a problem. I kept a couple weeks ahead of the posting schedule, but again, much like writing The Labyrinth in ten days instead of thirty, I just ran ahead with something without knowing that I couldn’t do it and it worked out incredibly well.
Did it? I feel differently, and this review aims to explain why.
This book lacks plot. Valente is attempting a 3-act structure, which relies heavily on a central conflict. There has to be some big mission; some big goal. First book example: September has to beat the Marquess (goal and conflict) OR ELSE everyone in Fairyland suffers (stakes/motivation). Every moment of the book ties back to this larger goal.
The central conflict of this book appears about halfway through. You know the moon, and the yeti, and splitting things? This comes up over a hundred pages in. September, and the audience, has no idea about any of that for a hundred or so pages, and so for that amount of time, the book is unconscionably boring.
The beginning of the book sees September afraid she’s too old to go back to Fairyland, which is a great central conflict idea for the one chapter in which it exists. Aha! A book about growing up and the associated trials and tribulations. That’s a fantastic theme, and yet I forgot about it entirely until the end, where it briefly awakens again, after an entire book of Not That At All. More on this later.
For now, the book takes September back to Fairyland, which should be wonderful, but Fairyland seems to have become all exposition and no action. A whole chapter of The Blue Wind lecturing September, for example. This is a character we don’t know, have no reason to be attached to, and are being actively hindered by as she relentlessly slows the plot down. And then September gets talked at by an alligator or something, and then another something something… I don’t remember any of this, because it was not relevant.
This isn’t like Fairyland #1, where September might need to befriend someone to gain access to magic which would help her on her quest. In fact, for this first half of the book, September doesn’t even have agency! Someone hands her a MacGuffin (I refuse to recall its name) in the form of a box, and she Must carry it to some city or other on the moon. Why? Who knows. She just must. And she does. And you’re thinking to yourself, why isn’t September making her own ship and leading revels? We know, as an audience, that she’s more than capable. What on Earth has got her seeming so meek? She even sasses characters, but somehow always ends up doing as they ask.
The book also takes all this time to reach any characters we know and love. The readers want Ell and Saturday! We do not care about a horde of lecturing adults with no connection to a central plot or September! Looking back, I can see how Valente may have been hoping to pull off something similar to Alice in Wonderland, but in Alice nobody speaks for a full page. This is just one example:
direct link
I’m hard pressed to even call this exposition, because it tells us nothing about the world we’re in. It’s just a sermon Valente wants us to hear. And worse, because I’ve read the last two books, I know she can pull this off. It doesn’t have to be this way. Many people said many things in Fairyland #1, and it worked because there was a plot that the speeches were part of.
(If you just look at the quotes page for this book, you can see how many there are—and how repetitive they get. X is a Y, okay, alright…)
But this sort of thing reached its peak when it almost ruined Saturday. Don’t worry, he’s generally well-written, but when September meets him and he starts lecturing? It’s just awful to read. Suddenly it’s not Saturday talking but Valente speaking through his mouth, giving those sermons again, and it just makes you want to scream.
This made me recall an old writing rule—“never remind me of the author’s existence.” I want to feel as though real people are really saying these things, and when all of them speak identically, it’s really difficult to believe that. I won’t deny Saturday his right to say poignant things, obviously, but in this case due to the volume of lectures, and the proximity of his to the others, and the obvious preachiness of all of them, it really got in the way of my even enjoying the scenes with Saturday. And come on; that is unforgivable.
But there is a plot. There is an, ahem… other MacGuffin. A paw? A yeti’s paw. Something about time. Look, at this point I just wanted to finish the book. The original MacGuffin had become a new one, which would lead them to the third, and all this because at 100 pages in someone said “hey there’s this yeti we really hate around here,” and September went “sounds awful I’ll go hunt him right now.” And of course she can, because she has been DOING NOTHING FOR THE LAST HUNDRED PAGES. What is she going to do, something else? There IS nothing else to do in Fairyland apparently. Again, what this book does to the world & inhabitants of Fairyland is near criminal.
So the plot starts here, and it’s not great—September takes it up because there’s nothing else to do, and of course her friends come along, but (at least to me) it seems obvious that Valente invented the moon’s political situation and the Yeti just to come up with SOMETHING for this book. It never felt convincing that this had really been happening behind the scenes in the other books. On top of that, since we get very little context (despite the lectures!), it feels less like a vital quest and more like September (again) doing something because someone else told her to. We really don’t get any other perspective on the issue until the very end.
But talking about the end will require a spoiler tag, so I’ll avoid it for now. Let’s take a break to talk about how confusing the book was overall. I often didn’t know where the characters were heading or why, or what role a new character played, or even if they were there or not.
After seeing a GR query about this particular issue, I went back and researched it. The character Candlestick allegedly leaves the party on page 189:
Candlestick had not come with them after all, turning up her peacock tail and refusing to speak further with any of the lot of them.
But then shows up in not one but two lines in the next chapter anyway:
The Tyguerrotype, the thirteen bouncing Glasshobs, the quivering houses—and September and Saturday, A-Through-L and Candlestick—had a little thickness, but no more than a thick sheet of paper. (201)
“Did we see what?” called Candlestick. (204)
I understand why Valente wouldn’t want to make major plot edits to the books after posting them, but why didn’t an editor read through this even once? It would have been easy to fix—delete one line, or even just a word. It seems clear through surrounding context, looking back, that Valente intended to leave Candlestick out of these chapters, so why didn’t anyone confirm that for readers?
It’s just not fair to your audience to leave things like this in. It’s not professional. It makes me look down on the publisher, to be quite honest, because they apparently couldn’t take the few months necessary to re-read the draft and offer Valente edits on these bare minimum issues.
So you can understand why I wasn’t sure what was going on most of the time. Especially in the beginning, when multiple characters existed just to lecture, it was hard to get attached to any one addition to the party because I could expect them to be gone without incident or importance within two chapters.
For example, the Periwig (whose name I refuse to look up) who works with Ell in the library says she has cursed him to stop him from flaming around the books. Yes, Ell is having uncontrollable flaming issues now. As a reader pummeled by random lectures, watching September ferry around MacGuffins, this just felt like an “oh shit we have to come up with a NEW conflict for these characters” ploy, without much thought or logic. And I had no idea what the curse was for over fifty pages, until on page 173 there’s a specific reference to Ell getting smaller after he shoots flame. I’m sure there were more earlier on, but I missed them, and who can blame me after a hundred pages of content that was not relevant to the story.
This plot point is never satisfyingly wrapped up, either. Why did the Periwig think this was a good idea? Could she have undone it? Why did nobody address her about it? And why was it solved the way it was? Nothing made sense.
What’s really frustrating is what could have been. Near the end of the book, I turned to the back cover just to avoid continuing to read, and I looked once again in total bafflement at the two starred reviews of the book pictured there. Booklist’s back cover quote reads as follows:
As usual, Valente enlightens readers with pearly gleams of wisdom about honesty, identity, free will, and growing up. September often worries who she should be and what path she should follow, but the lovely truth, tenderly told, is that it's all up to her.
And, despite having read roughly two hundred pages of this book, it was only once I saw this quote that I understood what Valente was trying to do.
This is a great idea. And there are ELEMENTS of it here, and even elements I quite like. Occasionally, the lectures September hears do in fact correspond to some aspect of this theme (“you become what you are called” is one example of a line I could tell meant something, but needed to be expanded to accomplish anything.) It’s hard, as a reader, to differentiate between lectures addressing a vital theme in the story and lectures that are just talking.
Returning to Ell’s curse, it turns out that [SPOILER] Ell was just flaming for what is essentially dragon puberty, which is a GREAT opportunity to build on this theme! Somehow, though, we don’t get that.. I would have loved to see Ell have to deal with, essentially, a sexual awakening, and that did not happen, and it feels like the cure scene is random and therefore wasted. [END SPOILER]
It doesn’t help that Valente also wastes a scene with FANTASTIC potential where September literally destroys her fate by giving it no prior context, no weight in the plot, no relevance to the conflict, and fifteen tons worth of expositional lecturing to drown in. I want to love these scenes; some of these scenes utilize my favorite tropes! I just can’t get around all the ways Valente is leaving her story out to dry.
Then there’s the clothing September wears, her new designation, Aroostook the car, the attempted blossoming romance between September and Saturday: so many elements which could have made that theme great. It’s like a broken puzzle.
This brings us to the Yeti. I’m just going to go full spoiler, because I’m mad.
[SPOILER]
The Yeti is a reverse twist villain?? Can we stop with this? It’s not interesting & not an engaging surprise & also feels like going “ha ha I fooled you.”
From the moment September set off to beat him, I was wondering—are we really doing this? Based on one random person’s complaint? September has made it very clear that she doesn’t understand the politics of the world she’s inhabiting, and yet: this. Unlike in the first book, where the Marquess’s evil is confirmed by every person she comes across and September ends up fighting her out of personal connection, this just seems like meddling. September has no skin in the game; it’s almost a white savior trope—especially when the history of the Moon parallels colonization!
And then The Gang sees future-Saturday helping the yeti, and instead of thinking “maybe we got this wrong based on one person’s lecture” they think “ah FUCK maybe Saturday is going to be evil” and manufacture totally unnecessary conflict.
But it’s not even that they misunderstood, or that their source was biased; the end result is that the Yeti was seen as evil because he DIDN’T CARE THAT HE WAS. He gives this “none of their business” answer that is fundamentally unsatisfying (and makes no sense—had he explained, THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BOTHERED HIM) because at the end of the day, it means none of September’s actions in Fairyland were necessary. She just showed up and left. Nobody, not even the story, needed her. I guess September and Saturday have now kissed (twice!) which is great for them but not something that makes the whole book worthwhile.
[END SPOILER]
And on top of this, there are typos. I already covered the issue with Candlestick, so here are the others quickly:
“All of us,” September said gently, and held out her hands. “I know what you said, Miss Candlestick, but however you count it, our fates are stuck together and stitched up good.” She paused for a moment, looking down at her flowing black silks and her own small hands. “Closer than shadows, she finished.” (170)
“If you’re not to tired after your cannonades.” (179)
The full moon rose passed the high barn windows, spilling in like milk. (248)
(First sentence ought to have put the end quotation mark after the word “shadows,” but accidentally places it after September’s dialogue tag. The second sentence should use “too” instead of “to”. The final sentence needs to either say that the moon “rose past the high barn windows” or “passed the high barn windows”, likely the former.)
What gets me is that this last sentence is on the last page. Even if Valente and her editors never flipped through most of the book, surely someone would’ve noticed this? It just drives home how little anyone cared. About Fairyland, of all things!
And then Valente, who DID NOT EDIT THIS BOOK, has the audacity to include lines like these.
September reached inside and took out the red book. It was heavy. A girl’s face graced the cover, finely embossed, but it was turned away, gazing at some unseen thing. Perhaps it was her own face, perhaps not. A miniature version of herself, after all. Was it an answer? Was it everything already written? “You can’t argue with something that’s written down,” she said, stroking the red locks of hair on the cover. “If the heart of my fate is a book, there’s nothing for it. Once it’s written, it’s done. All those ancient books always say ‘so it is written’ and that means it’s finished and tidied and you can’t say a thing against it.” Oh, but September, it isn’t so. I ought to know, better than anyone. I have been objective and even-tempered until now, but I cannot let that stand, I simply cannot. Listen, my girl. Just this once I will whisper from far off, like a sigh, like a wind, like a little breeze. So it is written—but so, too, it is crossed out. You can write over it again. You can make notes in the margins. You can cut out the whole page. You can, and you must, edit and rewrite and reshape and pull out the wrong parts like bones and find just the thing and you can forever, forever, write more and more and more, thicker and longer and clearer. Living is a paragraph, constantly rewritten. It is Grown-Up Magic. Children are heartless; their parents hold them still, squirming and shouting, until a heart can get going in their little lawless wilderness. Teenagers crash their hearts into every hard and thrilling thing to see what will give and what will hold. And Grown-Ups, when they are very good, when they are very lucky, and very brave, and their wishes are sharp as scissors, when they are in the fullness of their strength, use their hearts to start their story over again.
(page 184).
Like... all of that, and then she didn’t edit September’s story? I’m appalled.
At this point, you might well say I’m being far too harsh. I understand that. These next five paragraphs are for you.
For the first few months of (re)reading this book, I genuinely felt like I must be a bad reader, or my attention span was gone, or I just didn’t like Valente or her work enough. Looking at all the incredible reviews here, I felt jealous—and frustrated. Why couldn’t I just enjoy this book the way everyone else did?
Obviously, I never want to dislike a book, but this was one that I almost feel betrayed me. I know there’s a significant amount of entitlement there; Valente doesn’t owe me any stories, let alone good ones.
At the same time, I made every effort. I owned all the books, was working hard to read a series despite my long-time struggles with them, and, well, I LOVE Valente! I constantly talk about her work! And even someone like me—someone who’s usually a pretty fast reader, loves the series/author in question, and was determined to finish this book—struggled throughout.
So I’m frustrated that the book made me feel like an idiot. I’m frustrated that, for the apparent crime of being devoted to Valente’s work, I was put through this. This book would be one star if not for the world of Fairyland and the returning cast—if this had not been a Fairyland book, I would not have finished reading it. For that first half, I was bribing myself (with better books) to read one or two pages at a time. Really.
Like I said, it didn’t have to be this way. I know damn well that Valente can do better than this. If Valente had been given the opportunity to edit this draft into a polished book, she could have done it. It’s only because of these restraints that she chose—and she is a grown woman who may choose what she likes—that the book came out this way. It’s genuinely hard to review, because I understand why she wrote the book this way, and I understand why she did not later edit the majority of the text, and I also have the perspective of a disappointed reader. It’s hard to balance all of that.
So two stars it is. I’m a little sad it took so long to review this book, because I was REALLY pumped to review it when I first finished, but I hope that on the contrary letting it sit has allowed me to be more objective and less emotionally upset by it.
I hope to pick up the fourth book soon, but with the combination of it being unrelated to the main cast and the letdown that this book was, it’ll be a while before I feel up to it. Don’t worry, though, because I will come back to update you as to whether the series overall is worth continuing. I have every hope that it will be.

Walking through the halls of Mirkwood you was holding your stomach, you had just been to the healers and gotten the news you weren't ill, you were pregnant with Thranduil's baby and the second heir to the throne, turning the corner towards the royal rooms you started to think how the hell are you going to break the news to Thranduil, that he was going to be a father again.
Taking your boots off you sat yourself down on the edge of the bed and started to rub your stomach, whispering soft and gentle words to your unborn child you promised he or she would not want for anything, they have a big brother that would do anything for them, well you hoped so, the news started to really hit you, you were pregnant, you were carrying the second heir to the throne and your first child, you could feel the panic started to rise in your body, your breath started to catch in your throat and you couldn't help but let the tears fall from your eyes, curling up on the bed your sobbed quietly until you slipped into a slumber.
Hearing a noise you slowly opened your eyes and saw Thranduil sitting at his desk going over some notes from the meetings he had been having, watching his face twisted in confusion you could see how tired he looked in the candlelight watching him rub his eyes you slowly sat up "I hope I didn't wake you, you looked so peaceful" Thranduil's voice sounded tired.
Shaking your head you smiled "no my love you didn't, how was the meetings?" Holding in the giggle at his rolling eyes you slid yourself off the bed and walked towards him as he pushed his chair out ready for you to sit on his lap, sitting down you ran your eyes over the notes as Thranduil held you in place and absentmindedly placed his hand on your stomach, making you tense up for a second before relaxing hoping he didn't catch it, roaming his eyes over you Thranduil did catch the change in you, but shaking his head he thought nothing of it and let out a long heavy defeated sigh.
....
One whole week had gone by since you got the news and you still hadn't told Thranduil, it seemed everytime you had built up the courage to tell him something or someone pulled him away, deciding that tonight would be the night you would tell him the news you made your way down to the kitchen to cook him a homemade meal, in the royal rooms, getting the ingredients you started to cook, asking the chiefs not to let anyone know what you were up too, getting smiles from them and mimicking zipping their lips up, making you smile at them as a thanks.
Placing the meal on the table you lit the candles and started to pour Thranduil's wine and yourself a glass of water just as the door to the royal rooms opened and Thranduil walked in looking defeated and in a mood, Looking at him with a small smile on your lips you greeted him "Thranduil, my love I...."
"Not now (y/n), I'm not stopping just came to pick a few notes up" walking past the table and you Thranduil stopped the smell of the food hit his nostrils and he slowly turned to the table.
"I made us dinner" you spoke while twisting your fingers together.
"Well, I supposed the council will just have to wait then" Thranduil smiled and sat down making you smile back and sitting yourself down.
Throughout the meal, you kept trying to think of the perfect way how to tell Thranduil the happy news, raising your glass to your lips you looked deeply into the water annd took a sip placing the glass back down you rasied your eyes to Thranduil's and taking a deep breath you started to speak "Thranduil, I have some news I would like to share with you" getting a grunt in return you rolled you eyes a little and a small sigh left your mouth it was now or never, "I'm pregenant" after the words left your mouth it felt like everything was going in slow momtion, you watched as Thranduil dropped his cutlery and looked at you like you had just grown another head, watching his eyes roam over your body as his mind slowly worked out excaly what you had just said, seeing him mouth the word pregnant over and over you just sat there waitiing for the full reaction, you were feeling scared as you didn't know excatly what Thranduil would do, it seemed to you he wasn't taking the news very well, being pulled from your own mind you watched as Thranduil stood and made his way to your side, "how long have you known?" He asked.
"Only a week, I have been trying to find the perfect time to tell you" dropping your eyes from his you started to twist your fingers something Thranduil noticed you do when you are scared or nervous, placing one of his hands over yours, he moved the other one under your chin and used it to raise your head, placing a soft yet passionate kiss on your lips he pulled away whispering "I am the happiest elf in all of Middle Earth right now" making you smile "now we will finish dinner and make plans to announce it to the kingdom" Thranduil said as he got back to his feet smiling from ear to ear.
....
Being 8 months pregnant was not fun, mainly when Thranduil wouldn't leave you alone for more than five minutes, sneaking out of the royal rooms you were making your way down to the kitchens, you had gotten a craving for pickles, slowly peaking around the corner to see if anyone was there you saw Legolas making his way down the hall, trying to hide you heard Legolas let out a small laugh "you know I can see your belly (y/n)" "no you can't!" You said back.
Popping his head around the corner Legolas smiled at you "yes I can, the coast to the kitchen is clear if that is where you are headed" nodding your head you made your way around the corner stopping and turning back to Legolas after he called your name "I've loosened all the pickle lids for you" smiling at him you nodded "Thank you" turning back to the hallway you made your way to get the pickles.
Listening to the argument Thranduil wished he was back in the royal chamber with you, he was getting annoyed with the pettiness of the fighting nobles, always fights over such small matters, rubbing his temple Thranduil let out a small sigh, turning to the nobles he finally snapped ordering everyone out of the room, watching them leave while tapping his fingers on the table at a growing headache, hearing the door open he was ready to tell whoever it was to leave until Legolas walked in with a scout that had just returned "my lord, the orcs are growing bolder, they have entered the old fortress and sent out foul creatures into the forest."
"how many is there?" Thranduil asked in annoyed tone "over 300 my lord" the scout told him, thinking of what to do there was only one option "gather the army, Legolas a word" Thranduil ordered as he watched the scout leave the room turning his attention to his son, "Legolas I need you to take (y/n) to Rivendell, she and the baby will be protected there and away from this orc filth until the forest is clear again."
"When shall we leave Father?" Legolas asked studying his fathers face.
"I'll speak to her tonight and you will leave tomorrow morning, go get things ready" nodding Legolas started to leave the throne room as Thranduil stood "oh and Legolas, you must not tell her anything about the orcs" "yes Father" leaving the throne room himself Thranduil headed to the kitchen to grab a few items for you before telling you the news and how you had to leave in the morning.
Sitting at the table you had your hand in the second jar of pickles, as you chewed the last one from the first jar, hearing footsteps you looked up to see Thranduil's loving glance at you but you saw he was worried about something, "what is the matter, love?" You asked.
Not wanting to worry you Thranduil smiled "I am sending you and Legolas to Rivendell, I know you have always wanted to see it and its just the perfect time to go as winter has not set in yet."
Climbing down from the chair you made your way to his side and threw your arms around him "I love you so much grumpy" you muttered Thranduil whispered "I love you too" while holding a small but sad smile at having to send you away for your own and the baby's protection.
....
Being helped into the carriage by Thranduil he kissed your cheek "write to me as soon as you get there, I have sent a letter ahead to inform Lord Elrond of your coming, you should be there within a month."
Placing the blanket over yourself you grabbed Thranduil's hand "why don't you come with us?" You pleaded
"I wish I could but you know a kings work is never done, but I will try and join you in one month" Thranduil tried to comfort you.
"Promise?" You asked giving him the biggest puppy dog eyes you could do
"I promised my love, my queen" and with that Thranduil shut the carriage door and looked at Legolas and Luvon "go, before I change my mind, and don't stop for anything until you reach Rivendell" stepping back Thranduil watched as Luvon pulled the reins getting the horses to move as you and Legolas waved goodbye to Thranduil and Mirkwood just as the army exited the front gates, ready to make they way to the old fortress and to war.

I accidentally joined one cult after leaving the Unification Church cult
I decided I needed to get out of this church immediately, before I became some stranger’s child bride.
by HANNAH November 21, 2014
When we opened our eyes, I could still feel the fleeting warmth from his hands placed on my head. We sat in a circle as he led us into a quiet chant known as the “moola mantra.”
“Moola? Like money?” I wondered. The incense smoke snaked throughout the room. I noticed a donation bowl being passed around. Yes. Like money.
“Sat chi ananda. Parabrahma. Purushathama. Paramatma. Sri Bhaghavathi Sametha. Sri Bhagavathe Namaha.”
I readily joined the others in chanting, not really knowing what they were saying. When I couldn’t remember the next phrase, I just Milli-Vanilli’d my way through it, letting the other voices fill in the gaps for me. I’ve had a lifetime of chanting in a language I didn’t understand to prepare myself for this.
In 1982, my parents, among many others, had an arranged mass marriage at Madison Square Garden (photo above), performed by the infamous Sun Myung Moon. With a simple hand gesture, Sun Myung Moon matched my parents together among a sea of brides and grooms, and five years later, I was born, the second of four children. It’s always troubling to think about how my very existence was decided by some Washington-Times-owning, money-laundering, homophobic, sushi tycoon/sexist cult leader, but I guess it makes things interesting.
Our childhood was…weird, in a word. Even as a kid I found myself thinking, “Why are we selling flowers at the side of highways?” “Why are we going door-to-door making strangers drink juice?” “Why are we sprinkling salt over our groceries?” “Why are we waking up at 5 a.m. to bow to a picture of a Korean man and a bowl of fruit?” “Why are we chanting right now, I mean, really? What language is this? I’m tired.”
Friends would come over and ask who the Korean people were in the photos around our house, referring to the Mr. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon.
“I…uh…they’re my grandparents.” I often found myself saying.
“But…you’re…not Asian,” they’d reply, stating the obvious.
I’ll never forget my birthday during the blizzard of ’96. My parents took us to one of Moon’s mansions in D.C. to meet some witch doctor of a woman. She claimed to embody the spirit of Sun Myung Moon’s dead mother. We stood in line behind a closed door in the foyer.
Before the door slammed shut, I caught a glimpse of a large group of people gathered around a woman and a boy. The woman had her eyes closed with the boy sprawled over her lap. He wasn’t wearing a shirt and seemed to be crying. Red marks were all over him. He tried to escape her grip, arms extended to what I assumed to be his mother, who sat silently in the circle. Then, the door shut. I’m haunted.
Finally, my turn came. I nervously sat myself next to the woman. She lifted my shirt, prepubescent chest exposed, as the captive audience watched as I was hit several times on my back. She prayed in Korean over me. And then, applause. It was over. Somewhere, there is a photo of my brother and I standing in front of the mansion after the woman hit us that day. We were smiling.
Beyond the ritual abuse, there was a certain strain of poverty that only a child of a cult could understand. You get used to communal living and sleeping on floors very quickly.
Before we eventually settled in the D.C. metropolitan area, we had traveled around the country, staying in attics, basements, and church-owned hotels and mansions. There’s a very real cognitive dissonance that occurs when you’re living in a mansion, sleeping in a tiny bedroom with all six members of your family. In that mansion, I befriended a young, Japanese opera singer who lived on the top floor. She’d French braid my hair and show me pictures of her fiancé, a man she had yet to meet.
I thought this was so strange, but I would later learn that being “matched,” or engaged to a stranger in another country was common. At 17, it happened to one of my best friends. I’ll never forget the look of misery on her face as she stood in her wedding dress, among the sea of brides and grooms, holding the picture of her future husband.
It was then that I decided I needed to get out of this church, immediately, before I became some stranger’s child bride.
Within days of that decision, I got a phone call from an old friend.
“Do you want to get your third-eye opened?” She asked.
“Do I…what?”
“You heard me. Get your third-eye…opened.”
When we arrived at the house, a blue-eyed man answered the door.
“David!” Joanna squealed. “It’s so good to see you!” He wrapped his arms around her, practically swallowing her tiny frame. “Hannah, this is David. We met at a commune conference. We couldn’t stop staring at each other from across the room. It was kismet.”
David laughed and put out his hand to shake mine. “Nice to meet you, Hannah.” He led us inside, where a bald-headed man was sitting cross-legged on the floor, eyes closed deep in meditation.
He opened his eyes and spoke with a soft cadence. He introduced himself as Daniel. He told us that he had recently returned from a trip to India, where he received a special blessing known as “deeksha,” from a group called “The Oneness Movement.” By taking part in this expensive ceremony in India, he became empowered to pass this gift of enlightenment to us.
He instructed us to close our eyes as he guided us into meditation. He came around the room and gently placed his hands on our heads. I was struck by the similarities of this ritual with another my parents performed for my birthday. There is something spiritual about having someone caress the crown of your head while they speak in soft tones over you. I felt enlightened, or at least relaxed. Like Fox Mulder [The X-Files], I wanted to believe. But there was a Dana Scully in the back of my head that wouldn’t completely let me.
I began attending meetings regularly. Daniel and I developed a close friendship where we spoke on the phone daily. At one point, I was $300 short for my rent, and without blinking, he loaned me the money. Three months later, I found myself riding in a car with him to attend a Oneness Movement get-together in Pittsburg.
We pulled up to a row house in Pittsburg, where we were greeted warmly by a jolly man. He placed prayer beads over our heads, luau-style. “Namaste,” he bowed, and we did the same. He led us upstairs to his railroad apartment and gave us a tour.
“And this…is my Christmas room.” It was August.
There were two entirely decorated trees with trains circling around them. Presents galore. Reindeer, flashing lights, snowmen. It was Christmas hell. I took a seat, completely entranced and horrified by the mechanical Santa’s never-ending “ho-ho-ho” mantra. I kept thinking, “Where am I?”
Daniel called me into the next room where others had already gathered and were chanting in harmony.
“Sat chi ananda. Parabrahma. Purushathama. Paramatma. Sri Bhaghavathi Sametha. Sri Bhagavathe Namaha.”
I sat on my knees, and just as I was about to lower my head in a child’s pose bow, I noticed a familiar face from across the room. She looked a lot like Diane, a Moonie truck driver who would stop and make us oxtail soup when she passed through town. She loved talking about God with my parents. No. It couldn’t be. It was. Our eyes met. In a panic, I lowered my forehead to the ground to hide my face.
Finally, the chants subsided, and a faint voice spoke up. “Hi, I’m Anthony and I prepared a song for you all.” I slowly raised my body, trying to hide my face behind my hair. A mousy-looking teenager stood before us, boom box ready. The familiar sound of chimes and wind instruments filled the room. I knew this song.
“Olha eu vii lue mostar…” He sang. “Como é belo este mundo…”
He was singing “A Whole New World,” the Disney classic, in Portuguese. I noticed Diane was full-on staring at me. I panicked just as Anthony’s falsetto kicked in for Princess Jasmine’s part of the duet.
“Um mundo ideal…Um mundo que eu nunca vi…”
I looked around the room, scanning for any sign of acknowledgement from another human. Nothing. I noticed everyone in the room was in fact, crying. Was I that cynical? Should I feel something right now? Watching Anthony shimmy his way through the intense key change was definitely a spiritual experience, but I still didn’t want to give these people my money. I felt duped. This “whole new world” suddenly felt a lot like the old one.
I retreated to the Christmas room in an attempt to hide from Diane. On a table, I noticed a photograph of Sri Bhaghavan and his wife, the founders of the Oneness movement. They were sitting in chairs, like royalty. The photograph was nearly identical to ones my parents kept of my pseudo Korean “grandparents.” Horrified by the parallels, my inner Dana Scully finally broke through.
I spent the rest of my time at the retreat doing just that — retreating. I slithered along the walls, and managed to avoid a conversation with Diane other than, “funny meeting you here” and “please don’t tell my parents.”
When I left my respective cults, I was excited to be integrated into the real world, a place without cults, or so I thought. Not so. These days, I see cults everywhere: cults of influence, cults of institutions, cults of politics. You learn a lingo, you follow a set of rules, a code of ethics. Sometimes you wear a uniform and a name tag. Sometimes you are sleep-deprived and haven’t seen your family in weeks. In a world where CEO’s are more likely be to sociopaths, it’s harder to define what is a cult and what isn’t.
What’s important is listening to your inner Dana Scully, no matter how badly you want to believe. The truth is out there, sure, but it’s also inside you.

A few of the comments on Hannah’s story:
mrsdanger So interesting, would love to hear about your life now and your parents’ reaction to leaving.
Keith All religions are cults, some are more destructive than others. Thank you for sharing your story. Write another story for us later to let everyone know how you are doing on your new journey.
sara_ahoy I understood what she was trying to say here. A lot of successful people become that way because they refuse to follow the rules of society, some are more aggressive, and willing to throw other people under the bus in their bid for a promotion. Cult leaders tend to act similarly, acting charming but ultimately bullying their way into leadership positions and ruling through fear and ignorance.
We like to think that the societal rules that we all follow are there to benefit us, but I’ve found time and time again that I’m paying arbitrary fees of all kinds that go straight to a rich businessperson somewhere…
Lalaloki … they sure discourage people from ever taking a day off, even when sick. And then, when people do call out sick, there’s a sort of underlying guilt involved. People are being paid to be there, sure, but in a cult, people are being “paid” salvation.
tracy This is perfect! “What’s important is listening to your inner Dana Scully, no matter how badly you want to believe. The truth is out there, sure, but it’s also inside you.”
Huh Wow, you should write a memoir! I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian church that was very cultish. We left in middle school and it was hard adjusting to the real world but my “inner Dana Scully” has been strong and made me skeptical of all things spiritual ever since. My advice: If a group (religious or otherwise) makes you isolated or relies heavily on secrets get the hell out!
FoxMulder She needs to know the truth is out there
breebree Moonies aren’t rich at all! The majority (my parents included) dropped out of school and donated ALL of their money to the church. And keep doing it. Ugh, so stupid.
berly I want to know why the cult did a ritual of hitting children? [ansu, a Korean shaman ritual to get rid of evil spirits]

BREAKING CASTLE WALLS (2017)
click beneath the cut for more (do it) !
so, i decided that i wasn’t gonna post anything about what i was working on for nanowrimo up until i at least hit 50k (which has taken much longer than i anticipated, but i did it and that’s all that matters) because i failed in epic proportions last year with sfp, and i've said so many times over the last 5 years that i’ve “been working on the book version of bcw” only for that to fail as well, and i’d kick myself if i put it out there that i was working on this yet again, hype you guys up and fail yet again — HOWEVER, i am officially 50k+ in and still going pretty strong, therefore i feel pretty confident that this is gonna stick
talking with jackie inspired me to finally push forward to this; my excuse every other time was that “there will be a better time to do it” and i came to the conclusion while planning with amanda that there will never be a “better time” and i need to just do it. and so i did. after five painstaking years, i have written bcw the fucking book.
a lot has changed; movie plots, essential storylines, names, ages, characters, whole nine yards - bcw is now somewhat able to stand on its own two feet separate from fandom, which has been a really big worry of mine. i’m only 50k in, which equates to about chapter 3 in the original bcw, however, with this version of bcw, i’m only writing about their time filming. the mall tour bit almost stands as its own individual story and realistically, following both my plan for this AND adding in bcw 23-44 makes for a book the length of an unabridged dictionary, which publishers/agents are not going to want to pick up. this leads into my next point — i have every intention of publishing this. since summer of 2012, the thought of someday publishing bcw has been in my brain, and it has never been a dream i’ve been willing to let go of or compromise. i wanted it then, and i want it now. i’ve self-published twice now, with both tempted and transient, and while that’s been a rewarding process, i want to go about things a more traditional way. i want to have this book published by a publishing house; i want to go into barnes and fucking noble and see this sitting on the shelf. that’s the dream, and i’m sticking to it until it’s just no longer a possibility. so where to from here?
first things first, i need to actually finish (timeline wise, i’m at the start of july and i’m going into mid/late august). depending on how i feel by the end of november, i’ll either keep writing on into december or take a short break, write some other things, catch up on the tv i’ve missed, etc. january and potentially february, i’ll go back and revise, shape things up, make it even better. from there, things are a tad bit hazy: i’ve yet to decide if i’m going to go about the traditional way of finding an agent or if i’m going to take a risk and put the manuscript up on swoonreads. swoonreads, if you don’t know, is an “online community” where you can post your manuscript for said community to see, and depending on a few factors, the book could potentially be published by macmillan. right now, i’m leaning towards this option because it allows you guys access to reading the story sooner than you would be able to if i go about finding an agent before submitting to publishing houses. nothing’s set in stone, though. i’ll keep you updated as time goes on, but please please don’t be scared to give me your thoughts and opinions? as i’ve always said, bcw is just as much y’alls baby as it is mine, and i think it’s only fair that you get some say in the process. it may seem a bit unrealistic, but i would like to have this book in your hands by, at the latest, 2020. if i have to self-publish, i will, but i don’t really want to.
there’s a few people i want to thank really quickly before i get back to writing:
@catolovesclove (i’m tagging you on this url bc it’s what came to mind first, dwi) amanda you have been my saving grace during the last 21 days and i love you more than i can put into words. i could not, cannot, and will not do any of this without you.
@pixiedustandverygoodadvice i met you through this story, and it’s so much of your baby as it is mine. thanks for meeting jackie, bc we both know that’s what got us here - our dramatic readings of bcw have been the highlight of this month, you give jackie a voice in my head and i just love you so much
@shadcwthings you keep me sane, and have done so especially well this month, thanks for putting up with me
@orchidellee years and years ago, you sent me a message saying “even if you have moved on from that chapter in your life, don’t forget how amazing bcw was and how many people you made happy!!” i have it screenshotted on my phone, and every single day for the last month i have looked at that message to remind myself why i love this story so much, why it’s important, and to keep me moving even in the slumps. i never replied to it because i knew i’d need it at some point, and this was it. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart
@brinshannara your advice on my posts about nano really has kept me moving, so thank you, and i love you so so much. i went from loathing everything i had to writing ~300 words to 4.5k just with your encouragement
@alwaysthreegoodthings you have sent me so many kind, thorough, thoughtful messages over the years about my writing and they have never gone unnoticed or unappreciated. i’ve gone back and read them quite a bit over the last month because they held some advice i needed to hear and just...thankyou. i love you.
@eretriahs @greaseful @farrah-fawcett-spray @lttleodesta @martinskis @scfiafalcone @jeemmasimmons @brokencastlewalls @podamerons @lessthanthreejoanamarie / @speak-yourheartout @flicitysmoak @submeringue @hereistheplacewhereiloverue @dangerouskoshy y’all have been around since the dawn of time, always willing to talk with me or liked my posts about “the thg days” and every time i got so exhausted with pushing through a chapter, i thought about how y’all were there every friday reading, every summer fangirling and i just...kept at it. y’all were my motivation then, and y’all have been my motivation now. ily all
there are so many of you who have changed urls, moved blogs, stay anonymous, or are long gone and may not even see this that i want to personally mention, but for every single one of you who clicked on that read more, send me a message, followed my blog, played any single part in the bcw madness, i literally couldn’t have done it without you. seriously - on days i was in a low, i went back through my blog back in 2012 and 2013, read all the posts and messages and comments and it reminded me of how much i loved this story, this world, and these characters. you kept my dream alive, and for that, i love you and thank you.
okay i’m done being annoying and sappy, i’ve got some arguments to write!! if you wanna know more, shoot me an ask, but until then, i’ll be 84 pages deep in word and jamming to reputation xx

I was tagged (months ago?) by my best bat-friend @exaggeratedspecificity to name 15 songs that I love, and I was really inspired by her emotional stories behind her choices so I thought I’d put a little effort into mine, too.
But the thing is, when I start thinking back to songs that mean something to me, like super personally...well, sometimes I just don’t want to remember things. I got really sick when I was 11 and now it’s systemic and chronic, and it turned me schizophrenic starting about age 16 and that lasted for another 15 years. Music, literally, kept me alive. It was my best friend, the one thing I could trust. It was how I found validation for the fucked up things I was seeing and the way I felt. It’s how I spoke to the outside world---anyone who knew me then got at least one mix-tape from me, sometimes dozens. I would take lyrics and write stories about my friends with them. I had to go home and get lyrics down on paper instead of going to parties. When I rode the train cross-country, I lugged my 300 disc CD book the whole way, clutched to my chest. I kind of want to be buried with my headphones in but I’m a little worried I’ll wake up from being dead when the battery runs out.
Anyway, in the last few years...basically since I discovered Supernatural, music has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Life in general has changed. It’s better. It’s more fun, more interesting. I’ve found a creative outlet, and especially concerning music, I’m not slathering my experiences, my insanity, my feelings of loss and isolation and paranoia and confusion all over it. I’ve learned how to step outside my little fear-bubble and enjoy music from a whole new angle. So I thought, instead of going through my 130 gigs of music and forcing myself to think about those songs that I love for personal reasons and thus scratching at emotional scars and scabs of my real life, I’d do something more fun for me and pick my 15 favourite songs that exemplify my 15 long Supernatural fics, because since I’ve been writing, my life has improved by leaps and bounds and there’s not a single traumatic memory attached to the experience.
That was really long-winded.
With You by Matt Simons: This is from the soundtrack to Sense Of Life, which is my first published fic. I’m so glad I wasn’t really ‘in the fandom’ when I wrote this, because I never would have had the guts to write it if I’d known how much most shippers don’t like OFC. I would have worried too much about Mary-Sue’ing or whatever whatever. What I wanted to write about was giving the boys something to love, and then taking it away from them, because if they aren’t hurting, what’s the point? So I gave Sam a separated-at-six-months twin sister, and Dean a sick angel, then I gave them reasons to all get naked in a room together, because little did I know, Plot Productive Porn™ would be my go-to writing device. Anyway, looming over the whole fiasco is John Winchester’s A+ parenting, which sets this story up in the first place, and I was so gleefully fulfilled when I randomly heard this song somewhere while writing the fic. I was like, yesperfect.
My job to control you, darling, though I barely know you, hoping you grow tired and start giving in. Spout of holy water pour it on my only daughter maybe there's a shot she'll begin again. So wrong
Lucky With Disease by Elbow: I think this would be Crowley’s favourite band. That said, this is one of my most favourite wincestiel songs and is perfect for Wash It Away---the first fic I wrote, and it shows. A few OOC things, but I just went with what I picked up from the light smattering of gifs that had crossed my dash---I hadn’t even seen a single episode of the show yet. My least favourite fic, but still...it’s not terrible, and I love the dynamic of hurt-angry!Dean and fixer!Sam and Cas falling somewhere in between, willing to do whatever it takes to help. I definitely stuck to the first two characterisations for the rest of my writing.
Fell like a crippled crow Spinning through and breaking branches I'm in a bad way Call my friends, they'll know what to do
Not as handsome as my brother But I've been lucky with disease
And yes, I'm a better friend Than I've ever been a lover And that's not saying much But I'm not saying much today
Make Me Wanna Die by The Pretty Reckless: In some different timeline, all I’m doing is writing Megstiel. But Never The Same is all I’ve managed and it’s typical---crazy!Cas and caretaker!Meg, bees, honey. Okay, honey as lube and bees around quivering nethers, but that ‘oh what the fuck okay fine’ sentiment is there that I always loved so much about Meg.
I had everything Opportunities for eternity And I could belong to the night Then your eyes Your eyes I can see in your eyes Your eyes You make me wanna die I'll never be good enough You make me wanna die
Adolescence by Brown Bird: Rise Above It is my goriest fic to-date, and the sort of weird, sinister nature of this song seems perfect for it. Another wincestiel fic in the same vein of WIA but I think I got the characters down a little better. Dean can’t stand himself and thinks he hates Castiel for caring about him, and Cas, par for the course, makes things worse trying to make it better, but Sam knows just where to dig into the bloody mess to get it all right again.
So long adolescence of the frightened soul You're entering the ritual Lay down your every fear upon the altar child Prepare to play the man's role
Stay strong the sound of screaming's just the sacred rite Of death begetting new life
We are here but for the grace of everything divine It's the providence that we must find
If (don’t ever blame yourself) by Last Days of April: People who can write early-season wincest are my heroes, okay. Dean’s a different animal now, isn’t he? I’m not even remotely suggesting he’s better one way or the other, just that he’s harder for me to grasp in the first couple of seasons. Harder for me to find his voice, and I can’t even say I really ‘got it’ with The Dawn Breaks...because I don’t fucking remember writing this fic at all. I have no idea where it came from, but it’s dark and dirty and Sam is toeing the line of making himself into the same monster that hurt Dean in the first place, but in the end, he pulls it off.
If it is hard to bear I'll hold the weight If there are things you ain't I'll compensate But you should never blame yourself Put the blame on everybody else 'cause they don't see what I see If no one understands I'll understand
Lovers’ Eyes by Mumford and Sons: ngl, the entire soundtrack for Becoming Less Defined is my favourite song. I fucking nailed it with these songs: perfect combo, perfect order, perfect atmosphere, but this song in particular showcases my particular obsessive trope here. I’m so fucking proud of this ’verse, and I’m climbing the walls to get back to it and finish it. I can’t leave omega-tainted!Dean and Wall-crumbled!Sam and sweet, insane omega!Jensen in limbo. I mean, there’s actual Purgatory to get to, after all.
Were we too young, our heads too strong To bear the weight of these lovers’ eyes I feel numb beneath your tongue Beneath the curse of these lovers’ eyes But do not ask the price I pay I must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghosts in my head That run wild and wish me dead
Complicated Shadows by Elvis Costello: It’s hard to get Dean alone sometimes, but this song really conjures up that early-season hero that I was talking about before, and writing Turn In Early was supposed to be just a little jerk-off fic, some imaginative Deancest, but because I’m the worst, it’s all slathered in gentle pain.
Well you know your time has come and you're sorry for what you've done You should've never have been playing with a gun In those complicated shadows Well there's a line that you must toe And it'll soon be time to go But it's darker than you know in those complicated shadows
John’s Star by The National: A reminisce fic, Dean’s B.S., 2001 is a rare moment of self-reflection for Dean, but he’ll only go so far back. I love the idea of Stanford-era!Dean, sidelined, a captive audience, listening to music he probably would never on his own terms, and hearing lyrics that just fucking hit home. There’s nothing explicit about this fic, no overt wincest, but it’s there, especially with songs like this.
I don't ever want you to come home again I don't want to hear your call, your voice in my room I am divine, my arms are stronger than rivers And when you feel that way, you want to feel that way again Forever
Once ruined, baby you stay ruined
Evidence by Faith No More: The sleaze that undercurrents all of Mike Patton’s music is perfect for Dress Me Down, a jealous!Jensen J2/Genevieve blackmail fic, because you can just hear Jensen lying to himself through the music.
If you want to open the hole Just put your head down and go Step beside the piece of the circumstance You got to wash away the taste of evidence Wash it away Evidence, evidence, evidence Got to taste evidence I didn't feel a thing It didn't mean a thing Look in the eye and testify I didn't feel a thing Anything you say, you know you're guilty Hands above your head and you won't even feel me You won't feel me
Sedated by Hozier: I would normally pick Great Expectations by Elbow for this, but the dangerous, powerful carelessness of this song fits Something To Share just as well. Schizophrenic, self-destructive and self-harming!Sam and totally out of his depth!Dean make deals and promises to each other and I just really, really love this fic okay leave me alone I’m fine.
You and I nursing on a poison that never stung Our teeth and lungs are lined with the scum of it Somewhere for this, death and guns We are deaf, we are numb Free and young and we can feel none of it Something isn't right, babe I keep catching little words but the meaning's thin I'm somewhere outside my life, babe I keep scratching but somehow I can't get in So we're slaves to any semblance of touch Lord we should quit but we love it too much
Knock Me Out by Linda Perry: Back to my a/b/o ’verse with Between Two Minds, and we find poor Dean, omega-tainted and feeling like he can’t be loved, finally, finally starting to trust his little brother again.
You knocked me out You bit my lip You held me down and kept me sober Through all this time With no regret I guess that's just the way I liked it Maybe, when I'm free I'll realize all he really wanted To share all the peace Something I never wanted So wait, don't go Seems as though it's getting scary So please, don't you go
Feels Like by Buck 65: A song no one will listen to for a fic that no one reads. Dreamy, plinking piano for a fic that started out as a dream. My favourite artist with my favourite ending I’ve ever written. Give Buck and A Steep Fall a chance.
She found the lost boy, eyes that are crying closes Glad to be unhappy, boy gives her dying roses Ecstatic agony and nights of arousing glories Hungry hearts and hands that tell ten thousand stories Open wounds and the one word that filed under Her endless eyes have known hardship and wild wonder Kisses that cure and moments that cured the kiss Under a spell and maybe there's no words for this
I Drove All Night by Roy Orbison: The Mixtape Thing wasn’t supposed to be a fic, but I had to talk about why the songs were picked for the prompt ‘date night at the MoL Bunker’, and suddenly there was a sweet little wincest fic. Yeah, ‘sweet’. My fans were very surprised too.
What in this world Keeps us from falling apart No matter where I go I hear The beating of our one heart I think about you When the night is cold and dark No one can move me The way that you do Nothing erases this feeling between me and you
Tell Me by Moby ft. Cold Specks: An alternative ending to BLD, But Then Again is the best thing I’ve written so far. J2/wincest/abo and so fucking full of angst and longing and good goddamn is it dirty. I’m so proud of it and myself for pulling it off, and even if I lose two more friends over it (i’m not bitter i’m very bitter), it’s still wonderful in my mind.
Didn't have the heat I gave you memories Come deeper please I got nowhere to stay tonight Won't you make me stay? Keep your clear eyes on the prize And as I'm there Bring me to your knees
Baby Blue by Wolf Parade: Kill The Lights is the one unfinished fic on this list but I’m so close it counts. Fifty-nine songs to choose from. Five playlists. Over 100,000 words, and choosing one song to represent this brutal MCD fic is easy. Since it’s written from Sam’s POV, some of my favourite songs are the ones I imagine from Dean’s, and this is perfect.
You're like a fool on fire To the water so blue I will come undone And I will run to you Sometimes we are an open flower Sometimes we are an open wound Sometimes we are a kind of echo chamber, wherein You're all fire and brimstone And I'm all that, too Burning blue for you

The Legend Never Dies [1/?]
I start too many chaptered fics, don’t I? But I really wanted to write this one, so I couldn’t help myself. The fic is based on this post and named after this song (since I can’t come up with good titles). My friend send me the picture and was like ‘I need an AU for this’, so I made one up. Thanks to Merch for beta-reading it!
“Have you heard of the witch of Lancon?”
“Yes! Awful, right?”
“I don’t think I could sleep in peace if I lived close to there.”
“I heard her powers are so strong that whoever will be able to defeat her is powerful enough to take down the demon queen!”
“No way!”
“Does such a person even exist?”
“There has to be, or we’re doomed.”
–
“Next!”
Alfred grinned brightly when he was called to the counter. He pulled out a poster and slammed it confidently on the surface. The receptionist didn’t even bat an eyelid.
“This!” He exclaimed. “I need this to be hung up on the main board!”
The receptionist’s tag read ‘Erika’. Erika smiled sweetly and took the poster, studying it, before she looked up again at Alfred. “That would make 14 silver Tainons.”
Alfred searched out his purse and put the coins on the counter, his smile not faltering.
Erika smiled back and took the coins. “Thank you very much. We will copy the poster a few times and hang it up immediately.”
Alfred smiled again. “Thanks Eri!”
“It’s Erika.” Her voice was soft despite the scolding. “And no problem, it’s my job afterall and I love it, despite it being tiring sometimes.” She nodded at him and Alfred waved and left, heading towards the inn where he wrote in the poster he’d wait for people interested to join.
–
It was the day after he had been to the guild, nine in the morning, and Alfred sat at one of the tables, yawning and still not fully awake.
“Excuse me. I take it that you’re the one looking for people to help you taking down the witch of Lancon?”
“Sure!” Alfred smiled at the guy standing in front of his table. One of the man’s snow white fox ears protruding from his black hair twitched slightly at the noise in the inn and Alfred could see three equally white tails swishing behind his back, indicating he was at least 300 years old. So he was a kitsune.
His face was ageless, but his dark amber eyes suggested he was older than most people would assume. Alfred only barely remembered the name of the purple and white eastern shrine priest clothing with long sleeves covering his hands -kurinigu- and made an internal note to look more into these things so he wouldn’t slip up and say something wrong when talking to him.
He motioned to the seat in front of him. “Sit down and we’ll talk about details.” The kitsune sat down and bowed his head slightly.
“My name is Kiku. I saw your poster in the guild and took interest in your quest. I would like to join, if you don’t mind.”
Alfred studied Kiku’s expression, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t read it, and all he could tell from his scent is that he was a beta.
“So, what are your skills? What do you specialize in?”
Kiku bowed again. “Like everyone in my kin, I am versed in illusion and fire magic, as well as transforming my body. I also learnt the way of the katana by samurais passing by our shrine. Sadly I am not skilled enough yet to be taught in the art of flying and possessing. Can this be to you of any help?”
Alfred nodded. “Sounds great! Sure, you can join my team!”
Kiku bowed again before he got up, dusting himself off a bit. “Then I will prepare everything and come back tomorrow at the same time.”
“See ya!” Alfred waved enthusiastically whereas Kiku just bowed and left. That guy sure liked to bow.
–
“This your poster?”
Alfred looked up when a hand slammed his request poster on the table. It was the second person who came by today, just a few hours after Kiku, who had come in the morning. Lunch time had already passed and now it was early afternoon. He met eyes with the cold glare of an alpha girl.
“Yep. Something wrong with it?”
“No. I would like to join your team.” Alfred motioned for her to sit down, but she kept standing. Alfred sighed and got up himself to be on the same level as her. Something about her smelled off, artificial even.
“So?” He asked her with a raised eyebrow while giving her a quick look all over. She was smaller than him, a dark blue bow in her platinum hair, her purple eyes cold and calculating. Almost everything about her was dark. She was wearing relatively tight clothes, a black short-sleeved turtleneck shirt, dark blue protective sleeves, long black pants and black boots. Alfred couldn’t tell where her pants ended and her boots started, since her loose white leg warmers, tied up and held in place with bands, covered up that part.
“I was trained as an assassin.” That would explain her get up. Protective, easy to move in and most importantly easy to merge with the shadows. “I know how to fight and learned some ice and some poison based magic, as well as invisibility.”
Alfred wasn’t sure whether to agree to her request to join. Her skills sure would come in handy, but something about her put him on the edge. She could murder him any second and he wouldn’t be able to tell before his dead body hit the floor. Then again, taking down the witch of Lancon wasn’t an easy task.
“Sure. I’ll let you join.” Alfred wanted to smile at her like he usually did, but something stopped him from it. So he just held his hand out for her to shake. She took it and nodded, her cold gaze not changing.
“My name’s Natalya. Natalya Arlovskaya.”
“Natalya. Then please come back here tomorrow at ten.” She nodded again, let go of his hand and turned to go when a cheerful voice butted in.
“This is the Lion’s Inn, right? Are you the one looking for team mates?”
A small omega girl with a dark tan and thick brown hair tied into twintails by bright red bows looked excitedly from Natalya to Alfred, unsure which one of them was the one who had put up the poster on the guild’s black board. A blue corset over a long purple shirt with short puffed sleeves and white pants stuffed into comfortable looking brown laced up boots made her look even more bright and cheerful than she already was.
“That’s me yeah. And as nice as you seem to be, I can’t take omegas with me. The quest will probably take months and it would be inconvenient for everyone if you get your heat during it. Not only won’t there be guarantee of a proper room or shelter for you, but it will also throw us back days and we don’t know when the witch of Lancon will become an active threat. There are a lot of rumors about her plans and I want none of them to come true.”
The omega’s smile did not falter. “Oh, don’t worry about that! I’m quarter mermaid, that means I only get heats twice a year. And I had my last one two weeks ago, so I’m heat-free for about six months.”
“Oh! Cool!” A quarter mermaid, huh. How did that even work? Alfred decided not to think too much about it. “I guess it’s fine then! What are your skills?”
The girl tapped her fingers as she was starting to count them. “Hmm, I studied a mix of weather and water magic for about ten years, I can breathe underwater, swim fast and talk to fish.” She lowered her hand again and smiled. “Is that enough?”
“More than enough. We’re meeting here again tomorrow at ten. Looking forward to seeing you.” Alfred smiled and the girl gasped.
“I’m in? I gotta prepare! See you!” She was about to leave hurriedly, before she turned around again, almost out of the door. “I nearly forgot! I’m Michelle!” And then she was gone. Alfred turned to Natalya again, noticing how her scent had changed slightly after Michelle’s arrival and grinned to himself. Maybe Michelle wouldn’t spend her next heat alone.
–
It was quarter past ten the next day and everyone had finally managed to gather in front of the inn, ready to take off.
“Okay, guys, these are Kiku, Natalya and Michelle. Kiku, Natalya, Michelle, these are Ludwig, Tristan, Layla and Erin.” Alfred motioned to the people he was introducing. “I’ve already told you about these three yesterday, you already know their skills, so all that’s left is to introduce yourselves.”
Tristan began, smiling shyly, uncharacteristically for an alpha. “Hey, I’m Tristan Hazeward and I specialize in plant magic. I’m twins with Layla,(;) we’re both 21.” There was a brief moment of silence before Layla continued for her twin, hand confidently on her hip.
“The name’s Layla the Great - or Layla for short - and I’m twins with this doof of a brother!” She pulled Tristan close and ruffled his hair. “We’re both alphas, though he doesn’t really act like it. I took up sword fighting so I could protect poor and weak Tristan while he casts his spells.”
“Hey! If anything, I back you up while you fight monsters! You’re far too reckless!”
“Whatever. So yeah, that’s us. We‘ve been friends with this guy,” she jotted a thumb towards Erin, “since he was waddling around in his diapers.”
“I’ll take it from here before you make it worse.” Erin stepped forward. “I’m Erin Whittalon, beta, 17 years old. I’m an archer and ready to support and cover you during battle if you need it. Nice to meet you.”
Everyone turned to Ludwig, who cleared his throat and stepped next to Erin. “Ludwig Beilschmidt, alpha, 19. The church sent me to join this quest. I’m a swordsman.” That seemed to be his whole introduction as he stepped back again. Natalya took the next turn.
“Since that guy already told you about our skills, I’ll just introduce myself, nothing else. My name’s Natalya Arlovskaya, I’m 20 and an alpha.” Her gaze wandered towards Michelle with the last bit. Michelle didn’t seem to notice it and instead just stepped forward to introduce herself.
“Hi everyone! I’m Michelle Lionnet, 16 years old, omega and quarter mermaid! Nice to meet you all!” Alfred noticed a black choker with a blue gem in the middle and engraved waves in it, and a broad golden bracelet had been added to her get up. He wondered what they were for, seeing as she didn’t wear them yesterday. Had she noticed Natalya’s affection afterall? Then his attention was caught by Kiku, who bowed as usual before speaking up.
“A pleasure to meet everyone. My name is Kiku Honda, a beta. I am currently 300 and 9 years old. As you can see, I am kin to the kitsune priests of the divinity Inari. Please take care of me.”
“Alright! That’s everyone! I hope y'all get along well! As for myself, the name’s Alfred F. Jones, 18 years old, a quarter elf and one of my ancestors was a dragon! I’m also a sword fighter like Ludwig, Layla and Kiku!” He grinned, satisfied with his rather loud introduction. A few people had turned to look at them during it.
“Then I take it you’re the one who hung out the poster in the guild?” Everyone turned towards the new voice that had spoken up. A beta stood there, carrying a large book with him, marking him as a sorcerer, wearing a green coat as if to highlight his bright green eyes, which were currently scowling at Alfred. “Sorry I couldn’t make it yesterday. Is there still a spot open?”
“Uh… depends on your skills.”
The guy bit his lip, then straightened his back, as if he wanted to steady himself, despite being on even ground. “I’m a necromancer.”
Necromancer. If there was anything Alfred didn’t like at all, it was ghosts. “Sorry dude. We already got many strong fighters. Somebody with healing skills would be better.”
“Oh, I can heal! I learnt it while I was studying necromancing, since these two are sort of connected!”
He seemed a bit desperate to get on the team. Alfred almost wanted to decline since he was kind of fishy, but they really needed someone who could heal.
“Alright.” He agreed reluctantly. “You’re in. Introduce yourself to everyone.” A ghost of a relieved smile danced over the guy’s features before he turned to the rest of the group.
“My name is Arthur Kirkland, 17 years old. This is Snowball.”
“Snowball?” As if on cue, the white fur on Arthur’s collar began to move, then something black peeked out of it, clambering onto Arthur’s shoulder. Snowball was the most unfitting name there could possibly be for the black kitten with twinkling yellow eyes, now sitting on Arthur’s shoulder and yawning cutely. A greyish glow surrounded it, but neither Snowball nor Arthur seemed to be bothered by it.
“Snowball. I resurrected her last week. It wasn’t her time yet.”
Layla snorted. “That’s the most ridiculous name I’ve ever heard.” Arthur glared at her and Snowball mewled protestingly, as if to say 'My name is great!’. Layla didn’t seem to care about the threat.
“Shouldn’t we get moving soon?” Erin piped in. “We can introduce everyone to Arthur on the way, but the longer we stand here, the more time the witch of Lancon has to prepare for whatever she’s planning.”
Everyone agreed with Erin, who had stepped in as a peacemaker, and so they finally set off, towards east, where the White Mist Mountains were located, and right in the middle the highest of them all, the one called Lancon.

"Insurance for 17 year old female?
Hello, I wanted to know what the price would be ranging between for a car that probably would have been made in the year 2000. I haven't started lessons yet but i will be by october and wanted to get a rough idea. Also i heard that there is a insurance that you can get that is cheap but you're not allowed to go out after 11pm at night or something. Is this true? if so what would the price be roughly?

How can I get car insurance on a car that my ex husband let my daughter borrow? The car is still in his name.?
My ex husband let my daughter borrow one of his cars. He lives in a different state. I had the car registered here in the state we live in, but now the insurance has expired and I can't seem to get insurance for the car now since the car is not in my name. I cannot get ahold of him at all.....phone is temporarity disconnected, etc., and I think he has not even been paying the payments on the car, since he has not been working for many months now due to the housing crisis in this country....especially the western part. I'm actually wondering why the re-po man hasn't come and collected the car yet. I will not let my daughter drive the car until it has insurance. It just sits in the driveway. She really needs a car to get to work now and it seems such a waste to have a perfectly good car just sitting there. Anyone know how I can get some insurance on this car? Or maybe should I call the bank that is financing this car and see if he is even making the payments? Would the bank let me buy the car at a huge discount if he has not been making payments? Why doesn't insurance coverage increase along with premiums?
Suppose you have 100 / 300 / 100 car insurance coverage. Suppose you were paying $50 per month in 1990. Suppose you are now paying $75 per month in 2010. If the premiums go up because of inflation then shouldn't the coverage? It costs more to fix a car in 2010 than it did in 1990. Is it correct to say the insurance company's average risk is the same, but their maximum risk has gone down? Having to pay out $100,000 maximum today is less than $100,000 maximum in 1990. Insurance deductibles -- when to pay? (and other insurance questions)?
So I am no long part of an california HMO plan, so now I have to get insurance on my own. Problem is that I am making about $800 / month (part time work) while going to school full time. Both my parents are on government low-income plans, so I cant put them as primary policy holders while I get student rates. One question I have about deductibles is when to pay it? For example, a plan that has $1,500 deductible / $0 doctor visits, do I have to pay the full value of that office visit to the doctor? Or will I have to pay $1,500 straight out to the insurance company and then funds will be used accordingly? What about $1500 deductible / $30 co-pay doctor visits? If I pay $30 to the doctor, will this credit towards the deductible? Or will this plan only hit me with the deductible for $1500 when I go to the hospital? Or will the insurance company want it upfront? Final question is: for a 21 year old student that is about 5'7, 230 lbs, non smoker, rarely drinks, what do you think would be the correct rate? So far I am getting estimates of $60-300, depending how big of a deductible I want to put down. Actually, one quick question: opinions on Kaiser Permanente anyone? I know most people i've talked to complained about slow waits and etc, but i'm leaning towards it because of good coverage for the cost -- but is it really worth it? I know this is quite a lot to ask, so if you don't feel like answering, at least point me to an informative web site?""

OK, so Im taking my test soon, and I was wondering if I could do this. As a result of my gender, my insurance would be considerably high; up to 6,00 to be exact. But, if I do this now, and pay for this provisional licence cover, when I have passed my test and have a full UK licence, would I just carry on with the same cover, or inform the insurance company of a change in the licence which I have.
