Could you do Knuckles with a Raccoon S/O who's really good at sneaking around and stuff and is just a little gremlin? Totally doesn't have a hoard of little trinkets they've found
What’s Mine Can Be Yours Too
Tumblr media
In the beginning, you were a nuisance. You reminded Knuckles of Rouge in a way, stealthy and silent when you wanted to be. But, to your credit, you never went for the emerald like she did. Instead, you found delight in scaring him.
From a distance. Since the first and last time you snuck behind him and yelled boo he had thrown you off the island. Then quickly caught you from falling. Then yelled at your for sneaking up on him like that.
And so you snuck around at a distance and shouted at him whenever you got on the cusp of his arm span. Knuckles hated it, so he made it his mission to catch you.
Honestly? It was kinda fun too. You kept him on his toes, and whether he caught you or not, it often resulted in him chasing you around the island. Your shrieks and giggles made him laugh too, a little. And with each new game of tag you found new little routes to take, discovering new parts of his home even he didn’t know about.
Knuckles lived here for years, but you made this place feel like a new world.
The sharp sound of metal on stone shocks him out of his thoughts. Knuckles whips around, growling when he sees you giggling behind a bush. He almost starts to charge your way, but then his foot hits something.
It’s some sort of statue, small and shaped like it was meant to carry something. Knuckles picks it up, able to recognize the shape is a Mobian but unable to pinpoint any defining features to suggest the species. You creep over slowly, footsteps tapping across the ground now that you no longer care for being stealthy.
“I found it in a cave.” You tell him, tail swishing low. “Buncha guys were digging around in there, but totally missed the golden idol! How stupid can you get?”
Knuckles squints your way. “Missed it? Was it in the ground?”
“Yeah!” You exclaimed, pulling more items from your pockets. Sparkling stones, strange metal bits, a mushroom or two. “It was in one of those little squares the guys like to make. Its head was sticking out of the dirt and everything, but no one noticed it!”
“You stole it.” Knuckles said. Immediately you blanched, dropping your prizes onto the ground. “From an archeological digsite.”
“I did not!” You protested. Still, as you tried to grab back your statue, Knuckles held it away. “It’s not stealing when it doesn’t belong to anyone! Besides, you’re a better keeper for it than those nerds!”
Knuckles wanted to be flattered. He was flattered. He just wished you hadn’t stolen the statue.
At least your puff-cheeked pout was cute.
“C’mon.” Knuckles said. Arguing with you wasn’t going to go anywhere anyhow. “I’ve got some gems. Let’s see if any fit in the crevice here.”
You brightened up instantly, happy to follow him towards his secret stash of treasure from his own hunting trips. “Are you gonna wear the cute hat?”
Knuckles quills stood on end. “It’s not cute!”
“But it is!”
In the beginning, you were a nuisance. And now? You still were a nuisance, just one that shared their treasure and time and company and love of life with him. And in the end, Knuckles was plenty happy with that.
