Was looking through my Steam 2023 wrap up and:

Horror visual novels my one true love 🫶💕💖 if there’s one thing I love it’s playing games that are completely surreal 🎉

I only got steam a few months ago (I got my laptop as a present in august for my bday!) so there wasn’t much data to go off of, but my top three games were OneShot, Needy Streamer Overload, and Mad Father! I’m gonna take this opportunity to ramble about games and review em for a bit so bare with me lol.

OneShot is amazing. I’m absolutely enamored with it I love it so much 🫶 I bought it on a whim and wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not bc at first glance it didn’t seem like the genre of game I usually go for. But I am SO glad I got it bc it’s literally one of my favorite games ever now. I was completely invested and entertained the whole way through, everything about it was just so good. It’s the type of game I wanna recommend to everyone I come across, it was such a fun and interesting experience. I also love the art style and music! What I’d give to experience it for the first time over again man…it’s so good.

Needy Streamer Overload was one I put off buying for a while bc again, it REALLY did not look like the sort of game I usually go for lmfao. I wasn’t planning on buying it at all actually, but I stumbled upon it again when it was on sale so I figured “eh, why not?” I’m surprised by how much I like it! It’s pretty crazy and just overall an intense and sort of weird experience but idk I really enjoy it and I love the graphics and layout of the game. Plus the ost is amazing! Again, I really like games that have an abstract, surreal, unnerving sorta vibe to em, and this game definitely delivered in that category. (definitely can be triggering for some people in certain aspects though so if you’re ever considering playing it make sure to inform yourself beforehand!)

I played quite a few Horror RPGMaker games in the last few months, mostly for nostalgia purposes. As a kid with unsupervised internet access, I watched so many YouTube playthroughs of Horror RPG’s which in hindsight I definitely shouldn’t have been consuming that sorta content at such a young age, but! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a love and appreciation for those sorts of games now bc of it. I will say though I genuinely don’t think any RPGMaker will ever beat Ib. It’s my favorite RPGMaker ever I absolutely adore it. I played it again a few months ago and have been a little obsessed with it ever since, Ib fanbase where are you and why have you all disappeared!!! Anyways. I had so much fun playing Ib it’s so awesome.

Honorable mentions to Doki Doki Literature Club (which I replay at least once or twice every year) and milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk (+ it’s sequel!)

⊹ He found the game trending in his social feed and wanted to see what the hype was after seeing so many posts praise the app.

⊹ The beginning? Ooooh~ Ominous. Likes it so far!

⊹ What are these things he has to choose from?

Queen of hearts? Beasts? Sea Wi—ooh, The Sorcerer of the Sands.. an odd familiarity to it and that’s what he chooses! Wait— what’s this? People? They look so. . .AMAZING!

⊹ He doesn’t even notice the arrows to look at the other dorm students. Just taps the one that draws him in more, only to immediately be blasted with a voice line:

“Ah, about time you got here! I’ve been waiting ages!” Your voice happily emitted.

⊹ Instant love. Your voice. Your attire. — He barely knows you past this point and you’re the one.

⊹ Oh- we fighting? Oh, okay, uhm— he kinda skipped the short tutorial. He just wanted to know your character more man.

But your chibify form is so cute at least!

Anyways- he constantly chooses your icon if presented in the practice battle.

⊹ Kinda sad at the fact he “failed” and let you lose that battle and vows that it will never happen again.

⊹ The dialogue! 😄 The.. dialogue!😊 The dialogue🙃 The di— YOU!

⊹ Oh wait, your butt is on fire!? 😧 wait what’s going on again?????

Cat, raccoon, chasing.. so much happening—

Hey that one kinda reminds me of—

⊹ “Kalim, it’s almost time and you’re still not ready yet?” A steady, low voice piped.

⊹ Looks like a deer in headlights, “..Ready for what, Jamil?”

Cue the game music picking up and filling the silence between the two.

..Even more staring at one another as Kalim subtly turns his phone down.

⊹ “What was tha—“

“It’s this really cool game and so far..” happily spewing nonsense to a confused Jamil, who tries to keep up but also wants to be on time for their classes.

⊹ They missed that one class.

Jamil Viper;

⊹ Kalim begged him to try that same day they missed first class.

He’s slightly bitter about it but, it’s Kalim, of course something like this could veer him off.

⊹ It takes him days before he actually starts it. Was it out of spite? Hmm, maybe. Who knows.

⊹ Doesn’t really get hooked as easily as Kalim did; although the intro did slightly piqued his interest.

⊹ Notes that the cinematic and story is thought out well.

⊹ Carefully reads and examines each of The Great Seven before settling on The Sorcerer of the Sands.

It gives him a sense of familiarity and the background reminds him of home.

⊹ Stares incredulously at the people that now appeared on his screen.

And here is where we see the gears shift into motion and for sure know that he is hooked. What did him in? The obvious representation in attire and character designs.

⊹ He goes through each of the students to admire the work. But ultimately, obviously, settles on what he originally chose.

Now which—

“Late once again? Nevermind, let’s go.” You spoke evenly.

Talk about déjà vu, my goodness.

⊹ Unlike Kalim, and I’m sure you noticed, he reads things carefully and understands completely.

He holds his own pretty well and does decent damage before he ‘fails’.

⊹ Dialogue (positive).

Loves story building and low-key enjoys all the characters interaction in the beginning and— of course, that one scene that completely solidified his choice of you. He feels the relation to your predicament.

⊹ Yeah.. Yeah.. he.. enjoys this. He sees himself inve—

⊹ “Hey Jamil, I’m going to make dinner! What do you— IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS!?” Kalim bursts with joy.

⊹ “No.” Immediately shuts off his phone.

“It i—“

“You’re not making dinner” is leaving the room.

“Wha— WAITT! I WANT TO COOK TOO!”

⊹ Yes. The Jamil Viper actually enjoyed the game and will find himself playing in his free time.

Extra;

Kalim skips through and only does things to get gems and level up specifically your cards. He also pays big, big bucks.

Jamil is the lore reader and saves his gems. Although, he will from time to time spend for your SSR.
