I'm reblogging this because I totally forgot I wrote about this.
might make it a fic (after I finish the one im working on)
Hmm, thinking of a scenario where Sheila Haywood lived while Jason Todd still died.
Maybe the Joker let Sheila leave and they left Jason alone with the bomb. Maybe in Jason’s last moments he regretted flying so far away from Gotham for a woman who didn’t even have a heart.
Sheila runs back to the wearhouse after it blew up. Not because she cared about the kid she met hours ago, but because she sees an opportunity. She tells Batman she knows he’s Bruce Wayne. She tells him she knows Jason was Robin, and tells Bruce how it’s all his fault that her son is dead. She takes advantage of a grieving Bruce Wayne by pretending to be a grieving mother. But all she needs out of Bruce is money and a way for her past to be erased so she can live in the states again.
So years go by, Sheila’s now a doctor in Gotham (not a good one though) and she’s being paid by Bruce Wayne to keep her secrets (read, blackmailing and guilt tripping Bruce) and there’s a new player in Gotham. The Red Hood.
And if Jason wasn’t angry before, for the Joker living, he’s absolutely livid to find out Bruce is paying Sheila to stay quiet. Because the two people who played an active part in his murder were roaming around without a scratch. In fact, he’s actively helping the person who betrayed him.
I feel like if this were the case, the UTRH arc might’ve gone a bit differently. Maybe he would use Sheila to lure Batman to where he was holding the Joker, (as a parallel to how Sheila lured Jason into that werehouse) instead of fighting across rooftops of Gotham.
Jason would take off the helmet and just ask “Did you ever even care about me? Because helping the two people involved in my murder kind of makes it seem like you never did.”
And then it clicks for Bruce, as he slowly turns to Sheila and says “you had a part in it?”
Anywho, I just thought this would be pretty angsty.
