AO3 wrapped (writer’s edition) 2024!

I did not write as many fics this year, but I got a big kid job and I traveled and I started a very VERY long outline for Dead Draw, plus I finished Reckless Abandon, but here we go!

1. How many words have you written this year? 205,699 more words than 2023, but less quantity of fics.

2. How many works did you publish this year? six. less than last year by five.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Same answer as last year, but Reckless Abandon is a part of my soul now I think. There was blood sweat and tear put into that fic.

4. What work of yours has the most hits? Reckless Abandon still! 16k hits, which is batshit insane.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? Skin. I didn't imagine it would get any readers at all, actually. It was a really stupid little idea, but i'm glad people liked it!

6. Favorite title you used? If You Give A Prince A Cookbook (He'll Get Weirdly Good At Cooking) based on the childhood If You Give A Mouse A Cookie books!

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? No song lyrics this year!

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year? No one is surprised by it being Wilhelm/Simon in 5 out of 6 of my published fics this year.

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? 100% wilmon, but nilcent would have been second.

10. What work was the quickest to write? Six Sentence Stories From Tumblr because they were literally six sentences each lmao.

11. What work took you the longest to write? Toss up between Dead Draw and Reckless Abandon. Both are long fics, but one is still ongoing, and one was brought into 2024 part-way done so it's hard to compare.

12. How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year? I currently have four WIPs that I'm working on. A rewrite of Voicemail Box, a continuation of Just Some Guy, a crack fic I'll never finish, and Dead Draw

13. What’s your longest work of the year? Reckless Abandon technically, but again it was brought in from 2023. So only like 20k words were actually from 2024. Behind that is Dead Draw with a current 41k words and counting.

14. What’s your shortest work of the year? Six Sentence Stories From Tumblr - 2,703 words

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you? Dead Draw! chess fic is my passion project.

16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag? "Wilhelm Loves Simon Eriksson" and "Simon Eriksson Loves Wilhelm" so...

17. Your favorite character to write this year? Always Wilhelm, I fear. I relate to him so much that I absolutely have to get up into his fucked up little head. But I found that I wrote a lot from Simon's pov this year.

18. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year? ... Madison and Alexander???

19. Which work of yours have you reread the most? The fic from this year was Nils' Room. My stupid little nilcent fic. I love it passionately. But I went back and read some of my old old fics this year too, so I probably spent more time on those.

20. How many kudos in total did you get this year? 1,302. Holy shit.

21. Which work has the most comments? Reckless Abandon and no one was shocked.

22. Did you do any collaborative works this year? Still none this year. All the love to Dani who helps me write and outline fics all the goddamn time. I hope I'm as useful to her as she is to me lmao.

23. Did you write any gifts this year? I did not this year unfortunately. I just didn't have time to join any of the exchanges. But I wrote for a few of the events I think!

24. Did you receive any gifts this year? Again, not this year, since I didn't have the chance to join any of the exchanges 😔

25. What’s your most common category? M/M in a whopping all fucking six.

26. What do you listen to while writing? video essays were a godsend this year. I'd just put them on in the background and lock in.

27. Favorite work you wrote this year? Dead Draw is my passion project and Reckless Abandon ripped my soul in half so probably a tie

28. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? GodDAMN that one's hard to choose. But I think one there are two that stick out to me, both from Reckless Abandon:

Stella reached across the counter and squeezed his hand with a sympathetic smile. “He is an exceptionally easy person to love,” she said. And then she pulled away, grip tightening on her glass. “He’s just an easier person to leave.”  What made Simon the most upset — more than anything else in this fucked up situation — was that his heart hadn’t shattered until this moment. Not like it should have. It didn’t break him in two and threaten to overwhelm him.  His heart had broken, surely, when he found out what the others had done behind his back. His heart had broken, absolutely, when he realized Wilhelm wasn’t who he thought he was. But Simon’s heart didn’t shatter until right now.

Wilhelm loved Simon like he was supposed to love Sweden. 

My soul left my body and joined the poets with those two I fear.

29. Biggest surprise while writing this year? I'm a slut for writing a prickly Simon/arrogant Wilhelm dynamic. Absolutely love it. Devour my own writing every single time.

Fic Writers Year-End Wrap-Up

@suzy-queued tagged me on this a few days ago, but I was waiting to do it because I literally posted the ending chapter of a fic on the last day of the year.

1. How many words have you written this year? Hard to say because I posted things I had already been working on, plus I've written things I haven't posted yet, but roughly about 23k.

2. How many works did you publish this year? 62, though some were only chapters of on-going WIPs, and others are still unfinished.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? I'm proud of multiple of them, mostly because I managed to finish some WIPs, wrote a lot of drabbles, and overall wrote more than I thought I would.

4. What work of yours has the most hits? words written down (they are falling now), but I'm not sure if those were all from this year. Second place was Surprise?, also a Young Royals fic.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? Probably Surprise?, which was mostly a crack fic. Oh, and Fly Guy! This one was definitely a crack fic written in ten 100-word chapters, but people seemed to enjoy it!

6. Favorite title you used. It's a toss between my Gallavich Masquerade fic, which I of course can't reveal yet, and Pride, Prejudice & Video Games, (one of) my current YR WIP.

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist's songs did you pull from the most? Usually I just use songs for the titles, if anything, but occasionally I use lyrics in the fic. I don't think there were any repeats though, I only did it about 4 or 5 times.

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year? Wilmon, for sure, 17 times. Gallavich and Madirosh came second, with only 2 fics each.

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? You know what? Madirosh, actually. I need to write more of them.

10. What work was the quickest to write? All of the drabbles, especially the ones for the YR drabble challenge. I wrote several on the spot.

11. What work took you the longest to write? Come Jingle My Bells. I finally finished it after three years!

12. How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year? 13, including 4 that I've already started posting and that are priority. The others are in various stages of writing.

The four that I had already started posting and that are priority are two YR ones, Pride, Prejudice & Video Games and I think I dreamed you into life, one DRUK2 one that I've been writing for years and I hope to finish it because I actually enjoy writing it (it's very chaotic!), That's what you get (when you let your heart win), and one Galalvich fic I pretty much abandoned because I don't know how to continue it, even though I had planned it, but that I really hope to be able to conclude, even if not very well, this year, The One that Got Away

18. The character who gave you the most trouble writing this year? I struggled with some drabbles because I decided to write for fandoms I had never written for before. I think Charlie, from Heartstopper, is the one I agonized the most about, because I don't think I got his "voice" quite right, even if it was just a drabble.

19. What's one pairing you want to explore next year? Madirosh! They're not in my WIPs, but I'll make some room for them.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most? I never re-read my stuff except to continue it, so probably Come jingle my bells.

21. How many kudos in total did you get this year? AO3 says 1,849, but I don't know if this counts the ones on the fics I started posting before and finished this year.

23. Did you do any collaborative works this year? Sadly, no. It's one of the few things in fanfiction I've never done, actually! If anyone wants to collab in a Madirosh fic, let me know. Actually, Wilmon will also do, because I have a couple of AUs I have mostly just the vibes for, so I'd be totally ok with sharing it!

24. Did you write any gifts this year? Yes, "Come jingle my bells", "I think I dreamed you..." and "words written down" were both late gifts. My Heartstopper drabble was also a bit of a gift to a friend who gave me the idea for it.

25. Did you receive any gifts this year? Yes, a couple of drabbles during the YR drabble challenge.

26. What's your most common category/trope? Fluff? Also, soulmates AU, somehow. And meet-cute, apparently.

27. What do you listen to while writing? Absolutely nothing, I can't. I do sometimes listen to songs that inspire me, then I stoppe listening to them and start writing, not at teh same time.

28. Favorite work you wrote this year? Probably Surprise?, it was fun! I also really liked my Masquerade story, hihi.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? Bold of you to assume I remember what I wrote lol. I'll go with the Ellie/A'Whora talk in "Come jingle" because I thought it was really sweet.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year? That I managed to write this much! And that writing drabbles, as I already suspected, is a lot easier. Oh, and that I can totally write on my phone if it's in short bursts, and it's actually easier because my brain computes it as "not serious", so I can get a few hundred words out that way and use the laptop for longer spurts, for editing and posting.

In order: Awful quiet here since love fell asleep (9-1-1, the break up, make up fic), Atlas (bound) (9-1-1, the Buckley parents are trash fic), Baggage that goes with mine (9-1-1, Tommy begins), (I'm in love) but I do not speak the language (9-1-1, the relationship discovery one), and I'll cover you (9-1-1, part II after Baggage, when Buck and Tommy get a dog).

5. Do you respond to comments? I really try. @liminalmemories21 is much better at it than I am, but I do always intend to because each comment is my best beloved.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Erm, we don't really write angsty things? Awful quiet, Atlas and Inside, You've Got Heaven and Earth all start angsty, but don't end there?

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Oh, god, uh, probably What's with today, today? Mostly just because making them all librarians on Stuffie Day itself was an indulgent turducken of a dessert.

I read like, a decade's worth of Stiles/Derek and literally never watched an episode of the show, but I watched SO MUCH Stargate because John/Rodney, my beloveds. I am still a sucker for a good Arthur/Eames. I would bow down if people brought back silver foxes Fraser/RayK. It's hard to have favorites after over 30 years in fandom.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Lim and I poke things to death, and definitely don't post a lot of them because we can't imagine things not being done before we put them out in the world -- see the Merlin fic of epicness that we started way over a decade ago and still sits in our google docs.

16. What are your writing strengths? I also think this is a thing best answered by others, like hi, Lim, how do I help? I honestly think I'm a better editor than writer? I'm not good about setting scenes, but I'm pretty good about taking drafts and massaging them?

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I always want things to feel more lived in than I feel I can accomplish on my own.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I speak english and bad english, so I am terrible about this, but I totally understand that sometimes its warranted.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Popslash and Smallville, and hi, yes, I disappeared for two decades.

Awful quiet did exactly what I wanted that fic to when we set out to write it, and while maybe I wish some of the OCs were handled better/differently, I'm still happy with how we got from the beginning to end.

The What Binds series definitely put Tommy in a place and time, and there's a reason there's four stories worth of it (hi, I'm super proud of the detail about Tommy losing his virginity to Dave Matthew Band because, come on, people).

I know that Inside, You've Got Heaven and Earth didn't really hit with people, but it addressed something I wanted to fiddle with for Buck and Tommy, and Lim was a trooper for going there with me.

         “You know…I think the reason Keying is so kind and so loving like Princess Ning’an…is because you are kind and loving” he mused, making Chen Yuzhi look at him in confusion.          “What do you mean?  Me?  Kind?  Loving?  I killed innocent people, like the fucking princess, for God’s sake.  How does that make me kind and loving person?” he hissed.  Jiang Yuelou huffed.          “That was the you then.  It is not the you now.  You are a kind and loving person, Chen Yuzhi, whether you believe it or not.  I’ve seen it in the way you treat Keying and in the way you treat villagers.  You care.  Could the you all those years ago say that?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi was quiet before he shook his head.          “No” he whispered.  Jiang Yuelou nodded.          “Exactly.  You learned how to be a kind and loving person from Princess Ning’an and then took that love and care and kindness and raised Keying with it.  She is a kind and loving child because of you.  You, not anyone else” he declared, making Chen Yuzhi stare at him with wide eyes before he quickly looked away, silence soon falling over the both of them before Jiang Yuelou looked over at him and placed a gentle hand on his thigh.          “You are a good and kind and loving person, Chen Yuzhi.  You are not Zhan Tianqing.  And you never will be” he assured before he pushed himself to his feet and made his way towards the door, just as Chen Yuzhi looked at him.          “Jiang Yuelou” he called out.  Jiang Yuelou turned to look at him.          “Hm?” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him with glassy eyes.          “Thank you” he whispered. 

I just like this passage because I think it was something that Chen Yuzhi needed to hear and I really like how I wrote it (cuz I had something different planned out for this scene but I like how it turned out)

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year? 

That for some god damn reason, my fics wanted to fight me for no good reason. No, I'm not kidding, I had to rewrite Monster Like Me three different times because we settled on the final version (the third version) and Die Trying also wanted to be a little shit...but then again, I'm always striving for my fics to be really good (I have fun writing but I hold my fics to a high standard) so sometimes my fics like to be brats. Which is rude but *shrugs*

Thalia never thought much of her past, let alone talked about it. Usually it only made her feel worse.

She went to the only place she knew would understand; Annabeth's house.

It was Percy’s house too, but Annabeth was the real genius behind it. They had more guest rooms than they could keep track of, but they had put in a room just for her. Since she was traveling so often, they wanted her to feel like she always had a place with them if she was in the area.

She hadn’t stayed there very often, and she hadn’t personalized it a whole lot, but it was her room. It was the middle of the afternoon,

Annabeth was familiar with the sinking feeling. Her relationship with her mother was quite different, but they both knew what it was like to feel abandoned (though Annabeth would deny this, emphasizing Athena’s wisdom and intellect).

Annabeth had grown so much since she had first met her. She had her ups and downs, highs and lows that she pushed through. For starters, she was a real adult. She had a real job, a house, a partner; not that Thalia wanted any of that for herself, but the point stood.

“Annie?” She slipped through the crack in her door.

She usually only called her that when Annabeth was feeling small, but it just slipped out. Annabeth and Percy were lounging on their bed together.

“What’s up?” she put her sudoku puzzle book down on the nightstand. Percy gave her an acknowledging glance from behind his gameboy.

“Could we go to my room quick?”

“Oh, sure Thaly,” she said, giving Percy a quick “be right back” peck on the cheek.

Thalia never opened up much with anybody, even Annabeth. Her problems were always too much for such a little girl to handle hearing, so she just kept them to herself. Annabeth wasn’t so little anymore.

Thalia liked to think she had gotten more mature since becoming immortal. She knew she’d never age physically, still looking about 15 or so.

Technically 15 at least. She would have been somewhere in her mid to late 20s if she was keeping track. Maybe even early 30s if she counted half of the tree years. As the years passed, she started to wonder if she had been aging mentally at all. She always felt (?)

She sat on her freshly made bed, annabeth following right beside her.

“Did I ever tell you about the quest I went on, with Percy and Nico?” She said.

“No,” Annabeth said curiously, scooting in closer.

Now she has to tell her.

“It was years ago, but We were in the underworld—and I saw… I saw my mom—but it wasn’t her it was Melinoe.”

“Oh,” Annabeth sighed sympathetically, “and that was scary?”

“It was terrifying.” “My mom, she…” “she said I was ungrateful, for running away. She needed me, and I still left.”

She had always carried that guilt with her.

“No, you don’t ever blame yourself for any of that, okay?” “You put up with so much more than you should have had to. We were all too young for any of that.”

“I was 9,” Thalia said, “when I first left, I was 9. I should have left sooner, and I would have if I didn’t have Jason. I couldn’t leave Jason alone with her, I just couldn’t.”

“It was so awful, seeing her just made me feel all…” She hunched her shoulders over, sinking into herself. Smaller. “y’know, like there wasn’t anything I could do, I couldn’t fight back. I was just frozen.”

“I just wish she was the kind of mom I could feel bad about missing. That was all I ever wanted. For Jason, for me, just a nice mom who would give me a hug and tell me everything would be okay.”

She couldn’t help but hold a grudge. Why did everyone else have moms and dads who . Why couldn’t she have that mom?

Annabeth gave her a sympathetic sigh as she vented.

When Annabeth was feeling small, she always had something to fear. Spiders, being alone, losing somebody she loved. She could always assure her that nothing was going to get her, that she’d keep her safe. For her, it couldn’t have been more different. She didn’t need protection from something, her mom wasn’t out to get her, that wasn’t it. It just weighed on her.

“How do you know?” Thalia dared to ask, “When you’re feeling little, how can you tell you are?”

“I usually don’t, it’s not very easy to tell. Why’d you ask?”

“Just curious.”

“Do you think you might have been? Down there, when you saw her?”

“Maybe. I think so.”

“Are you right now, just talking about it?”

She took a moment, as if she were trying to piece together the answer like a puzzle. Was she? She shrugged her shoulders.

If she had to be vulnerable around anybody, Annabeth was the one person she’d choose.

“You wanna know what I think?”’ Annabeth breaks her out of the trance, “I think you’re a very brave little girl.”

Even before Jason came along, her mother was always making her paranoid. She always had to worry about what she would do, or rather wouldn’t do. She would pass out on the couch in her makeup instead of tucking her into bed. She would always reek of alcohol and vomit on her breath, she never wanted to kiss her goodnight. Her moods and fits made her completely intolerable to be around, meaning she spent most of her time alone in her room.

“Cmon, you know you can have a hug. I can take care of you now.”

Annabeth pulled her into a tight hug and onto her lap. She held her close like a baby, tucking her head under her chin. She couldn’t fight back against it anymore. Her mother rarely held her so gently.

She thought feeling so small and vulnerable would make her want to run, but it didn’t.

Her mind drifted at the strange feeling. She hadn’t given her own childhood much thought in a long time. She tended to ignore it, block it out, because if she didn’t give it any thought, it couldn’t hurt her anymore. If she didn’t think about it, it couldn’t have affected her.

After so long, it was finally catching up. She didn’t know why it was hitting her now of all times, now that she finally had a home to come to. Her friends were her family, they were her safety. Why did she have to mourn her childhood from so long ago, when she could just move on from it?

“You don’t have to take care of anybody else. You're still too little to be worrying about all that, okay?”

“Okay,” she fought off the urge to cry, repeating to herself in a daze of overwhelming comfort, “Okay.”

She let go of her heavy breath weighing her down,

“Should we go do something fun today?” Annabeth prompted her.

“Fun like what?”

“Anything you want.”

Thalia smiled. She knew exactly where she wanted to go.

“Ah, hand,” Annabeth reminded her, grabbing her hand before she ran across the parking lot, “hold Mama’s hand when we cross.”

She kept a firm but gentle grip on her, slowing her down.

“I know.”

She was too excited to be truly annoyed by her overprotectiveness.

Thalia looked around in amazement. She hadn’t gone to the mall in forever, all her memories of the place fuzzy. It was just like on tv and in the magazines. She never went with Annabeth and Luke when they were younger. They never had the time for elaborate shopping trips. All her black hair dye and makeup and nail polish always came from the drugstore. Her jewelry pins and jacket she took the utmost pride in were thrifted. She loved them, she really did, but she wanted something new. She wanted the experience she always missed out on.

The welcoming entrance beaconed to her.

She practically dragged Annabeth by the hand to all her favorite stores. She gave her the freedom to wander around, but made sure she didn’t run off without knowing where she was. She was like a real mother, caring and attentive. Even her purse on her arm had everything she could ever need, from bandaids to loose candies.

She felt like a kid in a candy store, digging through a bin of button pins, trying not to skewer her fingers.

She sprawled the things she wanted out on the counter, giddy and bouncing on her heels.

“So nice to see that parents still tag along with their kids.” The cashier said, an older looking woman with heavy makeup and a coarse voice, “How old are you hun?”

Thalia almost laughed. She was used to being mistaken for younger than she looked. Even at eternally 15, she still looked 12. It didn’t help her case that while Annabeth was in her late 20s, and roughly 6’, Thalia would never find herself reaching anywhere over 5’1”. Annabeth had always looked older than she was, wisdom and maturity coming to her faster than any of her peers.

“She's 11,” Annabeth said, teasing her hair.

They exchanged a few mischievous looks. They knew Thalia was older than Annabeth, most mortals were none the wiser. It always made for a fun little inside joke between the two of them. She used to find the fact a little annoying, but now she’s completely fine with it. She could let them all see a good kid for once.

Annabeth paid for her things, and handed her the bag to carry. They made their halfway stop at the food court, where Annabeth ordered them a cup of bite sized soft pretzels to share.

“Here, drink up,” Annabeth handed her an insulated water bottle. It had a pretty pattern of suns and clouds with rainbows. Not exactly her style, but she popped open the sippy cup style straw, to smell it. It was warm and floral.

“What is it?”

“It’s just hot tea.”

“Yuck.”

“Come on, it’s good for you,” She encouraged, “I even put sugar in it.”

“I thought you said its good for me?”

“It was good for you,” she corrected herself, “you’ll like it, trust me.”

She decided she’d humor her. Immortality meant she didn’t need to worry about her health as much. Vitamins and minerals and the like were never an issue. She was always free to eat as many cheeseburgers as she liked when she got the chance. Annabeth on the other hand was always trying to eat healthy. It was annoying, but in an endearing way.

“You’ll be a good mom,” Thalia said around the straw, carefully sipping the hot drink, “when you and Percy have kids.”

“Gods, I hope so. I want to be a mom someday, I just don’t want to screw anything up.”

“Does that make me the test run?” She said with an infectious laugh that Annabeth caught quickly.

“Never. You’re just the favorite.” She tapped her nose affectionately.

Back at annabeth's house, back at home, she finally got to dig through all her shopping bags. She planted herself on the couch to open all her new accessories, toys and clothes, practically bouncing with excitement. She wasn’t usually into placing so much value in her material possessions, but this was different.

She had two twin bracelets, thick black studded cuffs, and a new belt to match. The shirt she bought was black and blue striped with long sleeves to go under her usual graphic tees. She had blue hair dye (which Annabeth would hopefully help her with) and pretty star shaped clips she couldn’t wait to show Reyna. She got a few new pins for her jacket.

Annabeth was the one who insisted she buy a toy or two.

While she had spent most of her time buying herself Annabeth had picked up some things of her own for her.

“What’d you get?” Thalia curiously peaked in her bag.

“Just some things for you,”

“For me?”

Thalias eyes lit up as she pulled out a gray plush wolf.

“I know, it’s silly, I just figured—I dunno. I always had my favorite teddy bear.”

Thalia hugged it tightly, propping it up against her collarbone under her chin. It was soft and slightly heavy against her chest. It was perfect. She already wanted to carry him everywhere.

“It’s perfect Annie. Thanks,” She said, the comfy couch and low dim lights around her drawing out a small yawn, “I like him.”

Annabeth looked at the clock,

“10:00 already?” “Looks like somebody’s up past her bedtime. You ready to go to sleep?”

Thalia had never had a set ‘bedtime’ before. When she decided on her own that it was time for bed, she would have had to find her way back to her room by herself. If she forgot to brush her teeth, or put on pajamas, it was always on her. Her own mother would have left her alone without so much as a hug or kiss goodnight.

“I guess.”

Annabeth took her back to the privacy of her own room and helped her into her usual pajamas, a big black t-shirt and pair of shorts. It was the same thing she always wore, but it felt different having Annabeth there helping her. She let her hold her shoulders for balance when she stepped into the shorts, and tugged the shirt over her head. It was more reassuring that Annabeth was there. Just the fact that she was looking out for her, the way her mother never did.

She went to get into bed herself, but Annabeth quickly stopped her with a hand on her shoulder.

“You don’t have to sleep in your bed, you can always sleep in with mommy and daddy If you want.”

Her own room was great, but it did feel a little empty. It wasn’t as lived in, it didn’t feel quite as homey, even though it was hers. Probably due to the fact she never stayed there often, especially for anything other than sleeping.

She took her gently by the hand, and led her back to her room. Annabeth towered over her. Everything about her was more mature, the way she carried herself. She was wiser, which she didn’t think was even possible. She was wiser in a way that just seemed so grown up in a way she’d never be herself. She’d always be 15. The thought of that made her feel even smaller than she already was.

“Thalias gonna sleep in here with us tonight, okay?” Annabeth said, to Percy.

“Oh, sure,” Percy scooched over to make room for her in the middle of them, “of course she can.”

She never had the same bond with Percy as she did Annabeth, but she still trusted him. He was always so attentive to keeping everyone safe. Even though they fought sometimes, he’d always come back for her.

Annabeth shuffled under the covers with her, sitting up against the headboard. Thalia clung to her side as she did, and she pulled her in to lay across her lap. Her gentle hand washed over the back of her head, scratching at her short hair.

“Here,” Annabeth grabbed the baby bottle of water from the nightstand, slipping it to her lips.

Her initial instinct was to push her off, she held her hands up defensively, grabbing onto Annabeth's wrists nervously. As she took the bottle in her mouth, Annabeth softly cooing at her, she lowered her hands to cross over her chest. She could trust Annabeth. She could take care of her.

When she was finished with the bottle, she rubbed her eyes, which she could barely keep open.

“I think somebody’s ready for lights out,” Annabeth said to herself, reaching over to the lamp, cutting the light. “Sleepy baby.”

Annabeth hugged her tightly as she settled in herself, like she never wanted to let go. She knew Annabeth was always protective of the people she cared about.

Annabeth ruffled her hair again, and Thalia shuffled off of her lap, back under the covers. She liked the dark when she slept. It gave her a chance to use her other senses better. The sound of Annabeths steady heartbeat beside her. The plushness of the comforter under her chin. The clean smell of the air, the laundry they had left folded on the chair.

yes! i try my very very best to respond to all of them, especially on newer fics. i usually fall behind on older fics/don't prioritize responding as much, but if there's one that is really kind/really touches me i always make a note to respond.

i've written a lot of depressing shit for the merlin fandom. i think winter always turns to spring might be one of the saddest all around, though.

i think i'm very good at dialogue, and getting The Voice of the character down. those things are usually what come to me first when i'm writing.

for lack of a better word...filler? transitionary bits of fic. i overuse phrases/words like a madman, i also think i am a victim of trying to be too flowery when i can just, like, tone it the fuck down. are those weaknesses????

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

if it's easily translatable sentences (short and sweet, nothing too complicated) i put in the language in italics. (like, bonjour.) but frankly, i tend to avoid putting other languages in my fics. i don't often need to, and since i don't speak any language other than english i don't want to butcher anything if i can help it.

probably the peter pan self insert i wrote many times between the ages of like 8-12.

The Unhinged Tournament Propaganda. It was literally only written for the tournament, but it got feedback on both AO3 and here on tumblr.

6. Favorite title you used

pack up the moon - pour away the oceans

It's a reference to W.H. Auden's Funeral Blues and perfectly fits the fic and Feihua's vibes in general. I've loved the poem since high school and was very proud of myself for remembering it when it came time to name the fic.

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?

I'm using I'll Be Good by Jaymes Young for most of the Prince/Bodyguard AU.

Feihua/Dihua was the only pairing I wrote for.

Mainly the Prince/Bodyguard AU. There's still a lot of work to be done, since only 2 of (initially planned) 16 parts have actually been finished.

Di Feisheng. I just love him so much.

Hulijing snuffles at the silk looking for her promised snacks, and whines when she doesn’t find them. He reaches out to pat her head as a reassurance, then narrows his eyes at her. “Did you know about this?” he asks, pointing at the pup with an accusatory finger. “Did you know he had this?” Hulijing tilts her head first to one side then the other and licks at the end of his finger. Di Feisheng huffs a laugh and then sighs, “No, I suppose not."

I just like the little bit of playfulness from Di Feisheng, since it's not something we get to see much from him (if at all) in canon,

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

That I was actually able to stay engaged and excited for most of the year. Usually I'll write a couple things, get distracted by other things, and then disappear for a couple years. But I didn't just give up and I'm hoping I can continue that in the new year.

Best Writing Apps: pls help

I just copied my new fic into Apple Pages, adjusted to the formatting, and was starting to really like it and get comfortable. As soon as I tried to properly start writing I felt it lagging and searched the internet to find this is a known problem with long Pages docs. This document is not that long right now, only about 4,500 words.

Absolutely losing my damn mind.

I currently do everything on google docs and while I don’t have any specific concerns, and still love everything about the UI, I’m looking for a place to write where I can have a more secure backup.

Please note, this post is for psychos only AKA I write everything (and I mean everything) on an iPhone. I need to know the best writing apps.

I’ve used WerdSmith a little, and don’t mind it, but it’s light on features and has a generative AI feature built in and I don’t like to support that at all. Might just have to use the app anyway.

Features needed:

Copes with long documents (longest is 135k, but several are 20–30k+)

Ability to make folders for documents

Doesn’t move around the page on iOS, can’t have it zooming and cutting parts off when I’m tryna type

Free or low cost (if paid, must have a free trial)

Ability to find/search in document (find and replace is ideal)

An undo button

Access to document history (I once accidentally deleted about 10k words, didn’t realise, and wasn’t using an app with document history) (I was using apple notes app) (we all start somewhere)

Ideally has a dynamic contents/document outline function for chapter headings (this is not completely essential)

Must show me the word count (and word count of what is highlighted) or I will literally cut my eyeballs out

Hi!!! I keep re reading your pics of the superhero au and I wanted to know more stuff if your okay with it. Could we get more about Joel's powers? It seems he was pretty strong back in his hay day, but what was he capable of that made them force him into retirement so early?

For anyone who sees this and is unfamiliar, V's referencing my "Even Ice Walls Fall Down" fic! (And subsequent one-shots filling out the universe a little)

So, Joel/Lore!

He is one of the strongest superpowered people to have ever popped up in the city. Tango/Deepfrost is, like, literally an extremely close second (if not tied, but since their powers are so different, the ranking is subjective).

Joel has three powers, which is part of what makes him so powerful. 1) He can fly (Superman style) 2) He can shoot lightning from his hands 3) He's invulnerable to, like, almost everything

Joel's invulnerability comes with the side effects of insanely high stamina and strength, considering he can't injure himself by overdoing it

He manifested when he was 19 and as of the time of the main AU, he's 31, so he's had his powers for... 12 years (did I math that right? i think so. it's late) and in that time, the only time he feels pain is when Jimmy's super strength overpowers his invulnerability's limit. It does have a limit. All of their powers have limits (except maybe Grian's... but Grian is a god pretending to be a mortal, not an actual superpowered human so he doesn't count). Because, yeah, Jimmy really is that strong

Now, because Joel manifested his powers at 19, he couldn't get hurt while he was a reckless 20-something. So he was extra reckless, especially when it came to being Lore. The division as we know it in the AU was nowhere near as structured as it is by the time Jimmy gets there, and no one was really regulating the superheroes. There weren't many of them, and they had no handler or supervisor or person trying to make sure they all behave

And Joel's invulnerability made him... destructive. Not always through his own actions

Because, see, when Joel was first starting out, Doc was still in the city. He had not yet left and taken over a country and established a Perimeter around it. And Doc had a lot of beef with Joel. Partially because Joel was an arrogant early-20's idiot (affectionate) and Doc wanted to knock him down a couple pegs (and Joel definitely egged him on and mocked with little singsong "You can't get me!" type childish taunts)

Doc also really wanted to see what the limit of Joel's invulnerability was, and so he kept making bigger and stronger inventions to try and even just barely break Joel's skin. And those bigger, stronger inventions were starting to do a lot of structural damage to the city. Because Doc was throwing absolutely massive weapons at Joel and Joel's lightning isn't exactly safe for normal people to be around either. He can control the voltage of his bolts and the more frustrated he gets, the stronger his lightning becomes as a defense mechanism. Which was very dangerous.

And let me be clear on something: Joel did not want to retire from being a superhero active in the field. He loved it. He loved the praise and the fans and the validation and the pride of a job well done

But Lizzie was going to run for mayor and they were married at that point and the constant destruction of Lore and Doc's fights were going to be hard on her campaign (because who wants a mayor whose husband keeps damaging her city? etc.)

For clarification here: people knew Lore and Lizzie were married or at least romantically involved in some way (because there were many pictures snapped of Joel dipping Lizzie for a kiss after particularly brutal fights), but didn't know at that time that Lore's real name was Joel.

So anyway, since Lizzie wanted to run for mayor and Joel's superheroing was going to jeopardize her campaign, he hung up his cape (figuratively? IDK. Maybe his super suit had a cape. Haven't thought about it). Because he loves his wife more than he loves being Lore.

I wouldn't necessarily say he was "forced" into retirement. He didn't want to retire, but he also knew it was the best course of action for the city's safety. To trust the city and its citizens to the other heroes who didn't destroy as much

And Joel is, at the moment, the only hero in the division with a public civilian identity. I think when Lizzie was campaigning for mayor and he retired from hero life, that was when he revealed to the city that his name is Joel.

After Lizzie won the mayor election, Joel settled into his position at the head of the superhero division and shaped it into how we see it today in the main timeline of the AU. He became the heroes' handler/supervisor, he trains new heroes when their powers are similar enough (he did not train Deepfrost, though. He was 20 when Tango manifested and they didn't get along terribly well. Their personalities were both strong and clashed). He handles logistics and dispatch. He's got other people helping him, but he's at the top. He wasn't the only one who made the decision to have heroes register their secret identities with the division, but he and Lizzie were the ones to approve it

Joel was 24 and barely into his role as the head of the superhero division (he was not in the field for very long) when Tango left/was kicked out of the division - and the two had a rather violent final encounter at the division building. The reason Tango even held his own as long as he did against Joel's invulnerability during their altercation is the fact that Tango is a genius, a gifted strategist, really nimble, fast, very tricky, very slippery (as Jimmy/Sheriff would attest in a heartbeat), and quick on the draw with his powers. Tango's darkness actually trumps the light given off by Joel's lightning (meaning even if Joel shot a bolt of lightning through Tango's cloud of darkness, he wouldn't be able to see anything), and that definitely saved him from getting fried hard to shoot what you can't see and Tango can control how the darkness moves

So yeah! TL;DR, Joel's powers and his mutual hatred with Doc probably could have destroyed the whole city and he decided it was best for him to stay out of the field after Lizzie wanted to run for mayor

Somewhere between when Tango left the division and the beginning of "Even Ice Walls Fall Down," Joel mellowed out somewhat - and matured a lot. That said, if Deepfrost ever went back to the division, Joel and him would still probably throw hands on sight

Actually genuinely have never gotten a rude comment in my life I did once get someone being hyper pushy about new chaps when I was like.... 19? Sometimes comments veer I think towards misunderstanding unreliable narrator elements and can be a little intense as a result

ehhhhhh closest I've ever gotten was dancing around the topic lol

omg me and tai have gone down some rabbit holes and made a tangled/good omens fusion among other things, which was cute 2 me

oh god I mean. ineffable husbands and wangxian invented romance. big mckirk and vashwood fan despite what my published fics would tell you. stsg ruined my life this year. I'm really big on platonic friendships though personally

My google docs are a cesspit of fics I will never finish. Once made a wangxian softball fic that will never see the light of day but I think of it fondly

Might actually be a weakness and not a strength but boy do I love prosey metaphor nonsense. Sometimes I think it works other times who's 2 say.

Fighting scenes man, combat is hard as hell.

in general I dooooon't write it too much just because I don't speak anything beyond like. grade 2 level spanish so.

Both the Sweet and the Bitter - so sorry to anyone who follows me for ST fics because I'm probably never going to write for it ever again or finish this but a dear friend of mine helped me with this story and it means a lot 2 me as a result. The flower metaphors were fun to research.

Plain White Beach Houses - also same as the above but idk pacific rim au....house metaphors.... I love this series a lot

change up, high inside - wanted to write a softball fic for my whole life basically and this is more or less me just waxing poetic about the sport if I'm honest

Feedback Loop - this fic was actually insane like. took me I think a full year to write out? There's a lot of stuff in this that I lol cannot reread anymore for reasons but damn if it wasn't a learning experience to write all around

3. What fandoms do you write for? mostly the x-files and star trek but i've dabbled in fringe and the west wing

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Platonic Procreation, Security Questions, Eden, Mother Knows Best, The MSR Files

5. Do you respond to comments? i always reply if they commented on something specific, and i try to reply most of the time but sometimes if i get a lot of comments at once i get overwhelmed and don't reply to them all😅

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? i don't usually do angsty endings but i think that would have to be my rain king ivf fic, Driftwood Lullaby

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? you're pretty much guaranteed to get a happy ending with most of my fics lol but some contenders i wanna highlight are Aqua Vitae, Defining Parameters, Sweet Kisses, Where A Million Stars Catch Fire, Though the Heavens Fall, The Wrong Scully, Coda, and Blood and Water

8. Do you get hate on fics? i got one hate comment on my most popular fic (lmao) and a couple of nitpicky comments on other fics that didn't quite rise to the level of hate

16. What are your writing strengths? dialogue i think, i spend a lot of time thinking about fictional characters so their voices are always in my head lol

17. What are your writing weaknesses? i'm so jealous of people who can write multiple multi chapter epics and i'd love to write more elaborate and complicated multi chapter fics but i just don't have the time or energy to invest in fully fleshing them out😔

i have 107 on maketea, but with my um. two other accounts i have 128

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

on maketea i have 293,935, but with at least one of my other accounts (one of them is for ml and one of them for another fandom, the latter of which i cant be bothered to log in to rn shdjsk) the total is 313,681!!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

miraculous ladybug mainly! but i have also written for owari no seraph. ive written for other fandoms but im not counting it if i literally only have one work to my name for them HSJAJA with ons at least i have 3 on maketea and 12 on my other account

THEORETICALLY. i also write for sailor moon. i have a substantial amount in my google docs. they just havent manifested themselves into existence yet

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

apology gifts, like poles of a magnet, new marinette, a nine-year old (fhfjsj), and i'll marry you! ive actually had kudos/hits/comments stats hidden on ao3 since 2021 so i have no clue how many kudos any of these have which is very funny to me

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

i try to but i always get distracted midway through going through my inbox which is totally on me fjdkka. i always decide to do it when im literally in the middle of class for whatever fuckin reason HAHAHA. i also always feel bad because im like 'oh i havent replied to this in literally two years im too embarrassed to reply now'

i also want to reply with more than just 'thank you' because comments mean SO MUCH TO ME but i think i psych myself out of replying because im too scared i won't be able to express it properly

hmm. i think im quite good at writing interactions! i mean, i like the way i write them at least. i love capturing the feeling of being with people and i think i do it well!

there's something that feels kind of hesitant when i read my docs sometimes? it feels like im worried to hit the point of the plot head-on and skirting around what i actually want to say. i think what i'm trying to do to improve is to be a bit more direct in my narration style and focus on being descriptive only when it's needed.

ive done it before!

Here’s the thing, if it gets a doc it’s getting finished… which means I have a LOT of works that are coming out in the future.

Prose, description, really painting a scene.

Everything else? Kidding, I have a strong aversion for commas and I would love to improve the whit in my dialogue.

A Sarah Dessen book way back when. Didn’t even realize it was fandom writing at the time. My grandmother still has that notebook with the full story, calls it my first book. If only she knew.

I don't think I have any with an angsty ending. Potentially Don't go where I can't follow, which is less than a thousand words but it might be the fic that I'm the proudest of.

All of them are pretty soft and schmoopy honestly. I could say Forever Yours (Faithfully) but I'm going to go with the most tooth-rotting one which is Nothin' but the kitchen sink.

No, thank god. 😬

😈 I'm going to say all kinds? Soft and sweet, down and dirty. I want people ridden hard and put away wet.

I got into fandom by RP'ing, and I actually have a couple of them that we've been polishing up to post.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Destiel was my ride or die for a long time. It's how I met my spouse and a few of our friends. Like SPN was a shitshow, and Steddie has taken over the brainrot, but damn if destiel wasn't there for me when I needed it.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

Honestly I've had a hard time getting any words to go recently. Right now it feels like A leg to stand on is just going to rot in my WIP folder forever, even though it was just supposed to be PWP (what the fuck guys.) I think realistically, though, if I don't finish anything it's going to be the long fic that I've had outlined for months and also haven't touched. Like I have a playlist for it and I know what I want to do but actually getting words into a doc? Ha. Ha. Haha.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm good at writing angst. Even though I don't write a ton of it. I'm good at changing the tone between one sentence and the next (and that is why don't go where I can't follow is my favorite fic of mine.)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

My pacing is off sometimes, I always have to have spouse read and be like "Does this work?? Do I need something else here instead??" As much as I love Scream for me I feel like the ending kind of got rushed in my excitement to post it. 😅

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

It's something I would love to try but I would want to be really careful and not be an author who writes a character who speaks mainly in english, just throws out a random word or phrase of another language to say "See? It's diverse they DO speak another language!" lol. I would definitely want to not just rely on google translate and actually talk to someone who could tell me my sentences made sense.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

RP, it was SPN. But the first fic I published was for Frasier (it's called "Passionfruit", it's Niles and Daphne. Frasier is such a niche little fandom on ao3 but I wrote that in just a couple of hours and I was so fucking proud of myself. And like, it's hot. 😌

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I said it up there ^^ but I think it has to be Don't go where I can't follow. Again, less than 1,000 words but it's a little story with a lot of punch to it, and I will admit that I go back and read it regularly. 😌
