I've been into dunmeshi for almost as long as cql...but it's a quieter and more reliable interest. more sustainable. cql was an incredibly intense emotional experience, and I obviously still love it deeply, but that kind of strength of feeling is really hard to maintain over a long period of time. meanwhile dunmeshi never drove me to such emotional extremes, and I'm actually not really a big fan of the heavier plot stuff nor do I think it really has a very strong political message, but I love it in the sense that its characters and story and worldbuilding are very comforting and feel-good and interesting to me, and it has valuable and broadly applicable messages about life and death and consumption and our role in the world
#I don't remember how I got into it either...#and yeah maybe this counts as an 'unpopular opinion' (hate that term) but the thistle and golden kingdom and canary stuff like it's good#and im glad the story didn't stop at fun monster-of-the-week cooking. but it's not really what I love about the story#I like the food chapters on their own merits and for the metaphors they channel and for the character growth#I do think a purely slice-of-slice manga would be boring. but it's these scenes I tend to miss in later arcs#however without the bigger-picture plot stuff we wouldn't have kabru in such a pivotal role and I do love him#and the plot was VERY well excecuted. kui didn't miss a beat#a really wonderful and satisfying ending#like eating a good meal#but man. a lot of the golden kingdom stuff I was like. idc#cor.txt
