Ah now, I think there’s a bit of truth in both sides.

Yes canon Sirius is an excellent character but in my experience, there are plenty of fics that do a stellar jobs of giving him a very complex, nuanced personality (and yes in some fics he’s two dimensional but sure we all love a bit of romcom Sirius at times, and why not? There is room for all sorts of tales, including silly ones, when you are in the mood!).

There is actually not a massive amount of info about Sirius in canon, granted more than some but hardly main character stuff, which is why it’s so fascinating to see how so many fanfic writers have expanded this. Tbh I think that their version of Sirius is more whole and beautiful and diverse than canon.

Here are just a few of the writers that I think really get into Sirius’ character (mostly but not all wolfstar, and yes some of these have smut but how is that not also nuanced at times??):

Some of these writers have very complex, well thought out ideas about Sirius eg he has complex trauma/PTSD/attachment difficulties etc based on his childhood and Azkaban. In Boys Don’t Cry I think of him as having disorganised attachment and some borderline personality disorder traits because of his upbringing.

I know I’m missing millions of other great writers in that list ( @greyeyedmonster-18, @eyra, @jennandblitz @captainofthesswolfstar @january3693 to name a few, see??)

but what I mean is that actually many of these writers have thought about Sirius Black way, way more than JFK ever did!

fanfiction is so great. like it's just saying, "hey love that character, imma take their name and the vaguest bits of their personality and just see what happens" like canon sirius is absolutely nothing compared to the sheer greatness of fanon sirius
