Malleus Draconia and the Cognitive Dissonance of being a Lonely Prince

A character analysis exploring Malleus’ conflicting views of self

Malleus has two primary characteristics that are significant to his identity: (1) His role as a highly revered, feared, and praised mage & prince and (2) His loneliness and social/emotional isolation.

In Malleus’ concept of identity, these two characteristics are in conflict with each other, despite one somewhat being caused by the other. How can a person reconcile the fact that they are supposedly extraordinarily special, talented, attractive (this is canon in universe btw lol), intelligent, beyond powerful, etc. - essentially a perfect prince - with the fact that they have no friends and barely anyone who cares about them (excluding those he feels are obligated to care)?

Malleus has no strong emotional connection with anyone that is not his family (I include Lilia in this category) or one of his guards (who, in spite of Sebek’s protests, is basically obligated - socially or role wise - to respect and love him). Now, I don’t think any of these relationships is obligatory or disingenuous in any way. Lilia, Silver, and Sebek all genuinely love and care for Malleus. However, I’d argue that isn’t how Malleus sees it (I’ll get into this later).

First, I wanna go into the first characteristic I mentioned, him being revered (+feared) because of his status and capabilities.

Before I even get into him as an individual, let’s look at how Malleus himself perceives the mere status of royalty:

Malleus believes (I suppose because of his personal circumstances) that people who are royalty inherently deserve respect. He even extends this to Leona, who he has a (playfully?) hostile relationship with. I don’t think there’s canon indication that this necessarily means he looks down on people of non-noble birth or anything, but he’s still stuck on this idea that, in certain respects, royalty does deserve better than the average person.

Clearly, this would extend to himself as well. Part of his self-image is kind of decided from birth (in an interesting parallel to Leona who believes that his own status as a second son decides his fate from birth) because he is raised in this environment where he is constantly told that he is better than others, simply because he is a prince.

That said, Malleus takes being royalty and a leader very seriously. I’d argue he believes that because he is ‘better’ than others, he has certain responsibilities and duties that he must complete, as shown above.

Part of this also means that Malleus takes himself very seriously - he isn’t allowed to even try to be normal, because he always has to keep himself in check. Anything he does will reflect poorly upon himself and his family, and this is something Lilia reminds him of.

Here’s where I’ll talk about Malleus’ relationships with the rest of Diasomnia.

Now, Lilia is clearly the person who treats him the most casually and normally. He knows Malleus very well, to the point where he can read his emotions - namely his jealously/bitterness/frustration after being left out of something.

Lilia encourages Malleus the most to try and have normal experiences. He understands Malleus’ loneliness, and wants him to make friends - to seek out more than he could have all alone in his castle. But, Lilia also has times where he acts as more than a mere guardian to Malleus. I can’t find the screenshot, but I remember Lilia reminding Malleus about what behaviour is and is not befitting of an heir, so that aspect of their relationship is still something to take note of. Even Lilia, who understands him better than anyone, still must wish for him to be the best heir and prince (sometimes sacrificing his own wants, although Lilia probably does this the least considering he knows Malleus’ feelings).

It’s no exaggeration to say that Sebek worships Malleus to the highest extent (just look at the portrait of him in his room). The way Sebek talks about him isn’t at all like a friend or even family - Malleus is a god to him. I argue that Sebek’s behaviour specifically (he would cry if he knew this) distances him the most from Malleus emotionally.

This will be explored more later on, but what Malleus wants is to be treated somewhat normally, at least by a few people he can be close with. Sebek does the opposite of this. While the students who are scared of Malleus isolate him because of their fear, Sebek actually accidentally isolates him because of his dedication and worship. Thus, both Sebek and others isolate Malleus through their treatment of him because of his position/status/strength.

Malleus certainly cares for Sebek, but I don’t believe he thinks of him as a genuine friend (and that’s not meant as a way to dismiss the relationship they do have, just that he doesn’t view Sebek as caring about him as a person rather than him as a prince/mage). How can he, when Sebek constantly acts like a fanboy around him?

Now let’s look at Malleus and Silver.

Silver addresses Malleus as either ‘housewarden’ or ‘master.’ Again, to my previous point about Sebek, I think this does point to Silver and Malleus’ relationship not exactly being a friendship. However, I think differently to Sebek, Silver does have more of a personal relationship with Malleus.

He treats Malleus with respect and formality, but he isn’t over the top with it. I’d argue they have a sort of ‘mentor-student’ relationship in a way; not exactly that, but you understand my point. Silver looks up to Malleus as a person, and Malleus is willing to teach Silver about things. I almost want to say they’re a bit like a younger and older sibling, but I think a bit of the closeness/familiarity is lacking (at least for now). The relationship still has a bit of a formality to it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t personal. I won’t spoil for those who haven’t read book 7, but I think their relationship becomes more clear there, iykyk.

I know most of Malleus’ vignettes are played for a joke, but holy shit they make me sad. You can tell that ever since he enrolled, if he wasn’t sharing a class with Lilia, Malleus has basically had to work alone for everything. Even here, Cater is only asking Mal if he wants to join his group so he can use Malleus for Magicam clout. Everyone is so scared of him that he’s never had a partner and he’s even gotten used to it. It might not seem that serious, but honestly - sorry to be crude - this kind of thing does fuck you up, especially while growing up.

Think about how Malleus feels - being the outcast and genuinely having no friends feels humiliating and depressing. It makes you think there’s something wrong with you, and that’s the way I choose to interpret the other aspect of his character. His passive acceptance to social isolation and rejection is a constant among his vignettes - anytime someone brings this up, he’ll say it’s fine and he’s used to it.

Another relationship worth noting is Malleus’ grandmother - his only living blood relative. Something that stood out to me (and I could be reading too much into this) but Malleus really feels surprised that his grandmother would take time to write her only family member a happy birthday letter?

That’s very sad to me, and I think it’s a reflection of both the expectation Malleus feels is placed on them as royals and his feeling that he as an individual (not as a prince) is inherently less important than any royals duties. He seems to think this way about himself too, treating his princely duties as always more important than anything he would want personally. A letter is a small gesture, and Malleus doesn’t even expect that from his grandmother.

I’ll use this to segue to discussing Malleus’ insecurity and social isolation.

Ever since he was a child, Malleus has been isolated from others. Before he was feared and before he was worshiped, Malleus was lonely. That’s clear to anyone. Now, I want to talk about how this loneliness and isolation has affected his self-image.

Examining his personal relationships, how the rest of the school sees him, and his own views on royalty and himself, I think it’s clear Malleus, on one regard, seems at first glance to think highly of himself. He isn’t arrogant or boastful. Rather, he just is very extraordinary in many aspects.

But, that surface level interpretation completely leaves out the other side of him. While he might excel in skills, Malleus fails on all regards in terms of relationships. It’s clear, no matter how much he says he doesn’t care or that he’s accepted it, that it hurts Malleus every time he is excluded from something.

He tries to hide that he’s upset that he missed the orientation ceremony, but Lilia remarks that it’s clear how jealous he is that Sebek got to attend. When Lilia reminds him that there’s always next year, Malleus immediately dismisses the possibility that he will ever be invited. In his birthday vignette, he states that he hates eating entire cakes and becomes upset when Yuu brings up the fact that they aren’t meant to be eaten alone because he knows. He knows just how lonely and isolated he is compared to everyone else and he hates.

Malleus has mostly given up and accepted that he will ever fit in. He is pessimistic, but to say he does not hope isn’t entirely correct. Later in the vignette, although he may be half-joking, Malleus remarks that Leona may have stopped by to invite him to a party - he’s even excited by the prospect. And again, he is let down. Leona even taunts him spot-on for his greatest insecurity (isn’t he just so dreamy?).

Now, while this does offend Malleus to a degree (see their catfight where he basically threatens to declaw Leona), I get the feeling that this kind of interaction with someone who views him as an equal (or at least, isn’t intimidated nor awed by him in the slightest) is probably pretty refreshing for Malleus. In a way, you get the sense that he enjoys that back and forth with him, because this goes back to Mal’s wish to be accepted and have friends to talk with.

Anyway, to return to my main point: Malleus’ deep loneliness and failure to fit in has likely caused some deep rooted feelings of insecurity (Note: I want to make a separate post on this because it’s kind of a lot, but I think this also contributes to his anxious attachment style). Malleus likely feels unwanted, despite all the great things about him that make people like Sebek fanboy over him.

No matter how powerful Malleus becomes, no matter how many people worship him, Malleus will always feel worthless deep down because no one will accept him for who he is.

The kind of insecurity and loneliness that pervades your life for years and follows you around everywhere isn’t something you can just shake off. No matter how much he tries to reassure himself that he is enough, he’ll never quite be able to quiet the voice in his head telling him that he is wanted by nobody and that he deserves nothing, that things are this way because he is not worth loving.

To conclude, how can Malleus reconcile these two sides of himself - the parts that know he is something great (worthy of worship and praise, even) and the parts that tell him he is worth nothing? Both sides are so extreme, people worship him but almost everyone avoids him. I feel that’s something Malleus must struggle with a lot - trying to hold on to the view of himself as a good prince while feeling that slip away when he becomes emotional.

The local wizard! He’s a big enigma to the townspeople and people either hate him or love him! (Not true, literally only Leona and Diasomnia feel that strongly for him)

Not much is known about magic in this world and it’s said only fae and their descendants are capable of wielding it.

Lives in the forest in a tower that houses two very well maintained gargoyles. 

When you receive a letter from him about the junimos he adds that you should get gargoyles too for a better drainage system…

In this universe I think you would already know who he is from the get go but he won’t tell you his name so you nickname him Tsunotaro/Hornton anyways.

Is very close to Lilia, Sebek and Silver! Lilia raised him, he half raised Silver and Sebek is his apprentice! (He took him in out of fondness)

He’s actually a descendant of fae royalty from a fallen kingdom ages old but now he’s living at NRV.

He’s very lonely and was very glad to hear a little farmer with no knowledge of his reputation had moved in.

And yes, stone is a liked gift for him-

Lilia Vanrouge

The owner and leader of the adventurer’s guild! Started it with Baul who is currently in the Skull Caverns.

Is actually fae and a powerful wizard but nobody in town knows, they just think he’s this weird kid who’s really good with the sword.

Lives in a little cottage in the woods with his son Silver who he took in when he was but a babe.

Malleus was living with them before but had to move out cuz his cauldrons and bookshelves were taking up too much space. They still live very close by though so he brings food over whenever he cooks! (Malleus teleports to ten different locations and Lilia follows)

.He’s considering retiring from his position at the adventurers guild and passing it onto Silver.

He has been training Silver and Sebek in the art of swordsmanship since they were young.

He’s in a band with Cater and Kalim, he plays the bass! Occasionally travels to the city for concerts!

Is often found at his cottage or at the adventurers guild!

A lot of Lilia’s training consists of going down into the mines and freestyling so he picks up requests from the bulletin board often to hit two birds with one stone. Lilia banned him from going down alone after his first time passing out though…

Often passes out in the middle of the day and sometimes wakes up to see Ortho charging him 50 gold…

He’s a good friend of the animals in NRV and sometimes visits Kalim’s ranch to see them! He’s also the one who found the cat/dog that becomes your companion!

I feel like he has a mini garden near his cottage too! He bans Lilia from entering.

Goes horse racing with Sebek and Riddle every sunny Monday!

Is often found at his cottage, in the mines or taking a nap on a tree near town square.

His father works as a dentist in town and his mother is an adventurer!

His family goes on fishing trips often.

Is able to use magic due to being half fae but the village doesn’t wanna give him the respect that deserves cuz he’s such a loudmouth…

He also still trains with Silver and Lilia regularly!

Goes horseback riding with Riddle and Silver every sunny Monday but is actually deathly afraid of horses…

Elder God; Part Three

Summary: Idia x gn! Reader. Idia asks one last person for help saving you, while at the same time, you feel like you are on the brink of losing your sanity.

Chapters: One Two Lore Four

Idia had visited every God he could. They'd all said similar things. They loved the dimension where earth resided, but they weren't strong enough to stop Azul.

He had one God left to visit, and he didn't want to do it. 

The God of Time's domain was silent. It was dark, except for the swirling green mists that glowed faintly, and the stars and galaxies blinking as they floated merrily through time.

His servants were almost as frightening as the God of Time himself.

“It's so wonderful for you to come visit us! He gets so few visitors, so it's nice to see that his friends still care!” 

Idia followed the oldest servant, Lilia, trying not to let on how much he wanted to flee. 

“See, I think he's lonely, sometimes. Sure, we are with him all the time, but he watches all of you, and all of creation without being able to interact with it, so it can be hard for him. But don't tell him I said that, he'll get pouty,” Lilia giggled at the end of that.

It was at that moment, your cat released a meow. Idia paused, reaching his fingers into the carrier to soothe it. It had been in there for a little bit, but it would not be smart to release it in any domain. 

“Is that a cat?” He heard a voice next to him. Startled, he turned to see Silver, another one of the attendants. Idia nodded dumbly. He hadn't ever heard this one speak.

“May I?” He asked, holding out his arms. Idia nodded, handing him the crate. Silver quietly removed the cat from the crate. It snuggled close to him, resting peacefully in his arms.

“Come, come, slow pokes!” Lilia giggled, having just noticed the delay of the two of them.

At last, they arrived before him. He was just as terrifying as Idia remembered. He floated in midair, palms extended, legs crossed, his eyes closed in meditation. The green fog swirled more densely around him. 

Idia’s mouth went dry. Lilia gave him a gentle nudge, and he snapped out of his reverie.

“Lord Malleus, I require assistance.”

The Lord of Time’s eyes opened, his glowing green gaze focusing immediately on Idia.

"Hello, Death.”

….

“Aw, c'mon Shrimpy! You can't hide in there forever!”

It had taken about an hour for Azul's spell on you to wear off, and for your still mostly human brain to process what exactly you'd seen in that throne room. Once you'd realized you'd stared in the face of a gigantic creature who had the power to crush you in his grasp, you had bolted into a nearby room, locking the door behind you.

The twins hadn't expected you to bolt, which gave you the element of surprise. They'd been banging on the door for a while, and Floyd was starting to sound angry.

You didn't know what you would do once they got in. You couldn't run. You'd used the last bit of strength and energy in your weak new tail to make it in the door.  You certainly couldn't fight them. They had magic, and a giant god, at their fingertips.

“Y/N~” Jade sang. “The more time you spend in there, the less patience Floyd is going to have with you.”

You weren't sure which of the two of them you were more scared of facing.

“Shrimpy,” you heard a warning growl.

“Floyd, you have to remember what it's like to be so helpless and weak. They can't help it.”

Really, which was worse?

The door heaved a little on the next bang against it. Bubbles rose in the wake of that heave, and you fought back your resurfacing panic.

“If…if I let you in, will you explain everything that's going on?” You muttered. The silence was deafening, for a moment. Then, as though their faces were pressed right up against the door, you heard two voices in unison.

“Of course.”

You opened the door, and were greeted with a matching pair of pleasant smiling faces. As if they hadn't been trying to bust the door down.

“Why was he so big?” You whimpered. “And why couldn't I think clearly around him?”

The twins grinned.

“His true form is way scarier,” Floyd said with a cackle.

“Azul has many skills. But, I will say,  the legends of sirens all came from someone,” Jade hummed. “Or something.”

“Why am I here?” You didn't feel like your question was answered, but they seemed willing to chat.

“He told ya! You're gonna help us destroy your universe,” Floyd said with a roll of his eyes.

“I would never do that!”

“Weren't you just talking about how you couldn't control yourself in the wake of Azul's powers?”

The twins snickered together.

“Besides, I think there's a bigger reason that Azul wants you here. One he won't even tell us about,” Jade leaned in and took a long inhale through his nose. “You smell of death,” He said with a grin.

….

“My interference would have catastrophic effects on everything we've built,” Malleus sighed. He closed his eyes again, seemingly intent to go back to his meditation.

“Please, I have no one left to ask-”

"Why do we have time? Why are our rules in place?”

Idia froze, staring at his feet.

"Because without time, death has no control,” he whispered.

“You wish to help your little human, yes? You want them to return to you, safe and sound?” Malleus reopened his eyes, gazing at Idia almost sympathetically. “If I help you, time will pause, and you will be unable to protect them from yourself.”

Idia felt his stomach churn. Without time, he couldn't be near life. Without time, he'd be alone again.

“What should I do then?” He whispered, feeling tears in the back of his eyes.

“For God's sakes!” He heard a booming voice. His eyes flickered to the most recent of the God of Time's servants, thoroughly startled.

“You're Death! You gave them your protection! Didn't that used to mean something?”

“Sebek-” Silver warned.

“No, he's correct,” Malleus said with a smirk. “And I believe the God of Life told you the exact same thing.”

Idia mumbled under his breath.

“For too long, you have run from what your abilities mean. It's time to face what you are truly capable of.”

And with a snap of his fingers, Idia was returned to his domain.

“Fuck, could've warned me,” he muttered. For a second, he panicked, then he noticed that the crate, and your cat, had been returned to his shoulder.

“Brother!” He watched Ortho race towards him, not bothering to hold a human form now that they were home.

“Hey, what'd Azul say?” He asked. If no one was going to help him, his last hope was that Azul would be reasonable for once.

“He said you have to come talk to him yourself,” Ortho said bitterly. “What'd Riddle say?”

“I spoke to everyone, not just him. No one is going to help. They just are going to let earth die!”

Ortho tilted his head in thought, before saying, softly, “But it's not really earth that's the problem for you.”

“No,” he muttered, settling into his cold throne, burying his face in his hands. “I mean, yeah, it's cool and all, but they've always kinda hated me there.”

“Y/N doesn't hate you though.”

“Y/N doesn't know what I am! They don't know that I'm cursed with abilities I never asked for, that I'm the only reason they can't live in eternal paradise!”

He leaned back in his throne, his eyes closed, as though he was in pain.

“What if, in the end, I can't save them? What if all I'm good for is unhappy endings?”

“If that was true, you wouldn't have been capable of making me,” Ortho smiled sweetly. “You wouldn't have made friends with Y/N. You wouldn't be a cat parent!”

“It's not my cat-”

“Still! You're parenting it!”

Idia rolled his eyes. “But-”

“No buts! It's like all those games you play, right? The tortured hero has to save an innocent?” Ortho grabbed one of Idia's hands, yanking him from his seat. “Azul is nothing compared to your raw power! So, show him who the real final boss is!”

Ortho extended his palm, creating a portal to the only realm Idia hadn't visited today.

Idia looked at Ortho fondly, before walking though the portal.

“Ah! Idia! I've been expecting you!” Azul grinned, leaving his throne, and bowing deeply before him. Idia sighed, allowing his human form to vanish as he chose another.

“Azul, you know why I'm here,” the room flickered with blue flames that shouldn't be burning under the water.

“Yes!” A golden scroll appeared in Azul's hands. “Care to make a deal?”

….

The twins had been trying to convince you to practice more with your tail, but you'd refused. So, instead, they seemed intent on breaking your mind.

“And once the waters have completely flooded everything, we'll all watch as existence itself slowly drowns!” Floyd said as though reading a bedtime story.

“If it makes you feel better, there are  many other dimensions. We aren't destroying everything.”

“Wow, thanks Jade. That makes me feel so much better,” you sighed.

“And the best part is, you're gonna help us!”

“Not gonna happen!” You snapped.

“Do you really think you have a choice?” Jade said with a sharp grin. “Azul-” He was cut off by a loud boom. The room shook, leaving even the twins looking confused.

“Floyd?”

“Yeah.”

Floyd grabbed you around the middle, dragging you from the room. You struggled in his grip, shouting obscenities as he dragged you down the hall, until you arrived in front of a familiar door. You froze.

“I don't wanna see him again,” you whispered, not ready for a second chat with the God of the Sea.

“I wouldn't be too worried about that,” Jade said with a smile as the world shuddered again. “We're just here to observe a historical moment.”

Jade pushed open the door, allowing the three of you to see inside…

Not that you could be entirely sure what you were seeing.

Blue flames, and ink. Those were the only clear images that you could process. But the longer you stared, the more you could almost make out two distinct forms. And those forms were having a heated battle.

When one slammed against the wall of the throne room, that's when the world would shake as though it were experiencing a catastrophic earthquake.

You clutched onto Floyd's arm, which was still wrapped around your middle, as though it would protect you.

“Aw, Shrimpy's shivering,” Floyd giggled, holding no regard for your terror. Instead, he released you, and shoved you towards the room.

Jade swam up behind you, and placed his hands on your shoulders. He leaned in close, pressing his lips directly against the shell of your ear, as he whispered,in complete awe,

“This is a rare opportunity, so watch close. This is what it looks like when the gods go to war.”

It really does mean a lot that us doing all those self-indulgent things could help you on any level. Poor Dragon Malleus probably doesn’t get as much attention, but not because everyone is very mean, but because it’s pretty difficult to have big enough space that is also discreet enough + have enough time to do it. He probably has to fly his suitor to his date spot of choice whenever he wants it to happen… 🤔

But Lilia does treat him sometimes! He is probably currently the one and only person in the world who is qualified enough to satisfy a big hungry dragon lol He has experience… And let’s just say, it’s more energy consuming that any regular kind of fucking because you kind of need to get creative and active sometimes…. Unfortunately, just using a dick isn’t really enough.

Sebek has never been entrusted with such an important task before, but Malleus and Lilia both know that it’s going to happen one day, and that Lilia would have to train Sebek and teach him everything about the way Malleus loves to be pleasured in his dragon form. Sebek has no clue yet… But he’ll do his best!! His dick isn’t as big as Lilia’s, but his limbs are longer and his body is larger and heavier, so Malleus is going to enjoy him once he’s ready.

Oh right, Malleus’ tail. He likes its shape and size, but he the thought of doing it to himself is too depressing. But… he does get lonely and horny, so he entertains the idea sometimes…

Hello! It has been fun reading all the different theories and directions chapter 7 can take as well as your thoughts on it! I was also surprised that Lilia announced his departure so soon, and while so far I am personally inclined to believe him about his powers fading due to age, I do wonder if Lilia could be testing Malleus in some way or teaching him a life lesson. Death is a natural part of life, and with the long lifespan of the fae, Malleus is bound to deal with the loss of loved ones/people in general 😔, especially as the next ruler. Lilia could be testing how Malleus reacts to loss as it could be an issue when he takes the crown. That being said, I don't think that Lilia is trying to induce an overblot (but well, who knows haha), but rather highlight the fact that life is not permanent (even for fae) and this cannot be changed (probably), and therefore life and time spent together should be treasured.

Personally, I believe that part of why Malleus is in school is to forge connections but also possibly to learn how to say goodbye (when he graduates), and to treasure the time spent together with peers even if they are not permanent. This is just my interpretation, but Malleus appears to struggle with perceiving time and living in the present moment. As such, he occasionally misses out on opportunities to bond with others or connect with the world. This is likely because he is fae but Lilia does not appear to struggle as much regarding this, so there could be other reasons 🤔. He doesn't appear to value time as much as others do (e.g. dismissing 3 months of internship because it's too short) which is understandable, but I think is something he should value more especially because life is not permanent. So maybe the life lesson Lilia could be imparting to Malleus is that people will come and go and that should be accepted, but it shouldn't stop him from genuinely connecting with others because it will make life better, even if it is more painful.

I agree with a lot of the points you brought up, Anon! I feel like a lot (and I mean a lot) of the upset surrounding Lilia leaving is because people expect a found family or a close knit group of friends (like Diasomnia) to always be comfy and together. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Part of being a family or being friends is also weathering through the tough times together, even if it is painful in the moment.

Many often forget that sometimes Lilia’s way of teaching a lesson or letting a secret out can be very callous. He was, of course, insensitive to the worry he caused Silver and Sebek while pulling off the prank in Endless Halloween Night, and did not gracefully divulge the truth of Silver’s human heritage to him when initially asked about it (Lilia just went, “Oh, you didn’t notice our ears were different until now?”). Lilia is also notably stern and sharp-tongued when scolding others (ie Leona in episode 2). And remember how hardcore his training was for young Silver and Sebek? Lilia can be so much harsher than he initially appears to be. It is for this reason that it’s possible that his departure is to encourage those remaining in Diasomnia to learn to stand on their own. All three of them are representative of the future of the Briar Valley and of Lilia’s hopes for peace between the races—the future king, a human able to bridge the difference between fairies and non-fairies, and a mixed child of a fairy and a human. But they can’t fully realize their own potentials if they keep leaning on Lilia for support. It’s could be like a case of “touch love”/“if you love them, let them leave the nest” (except it’s Lilia leaving in this case to force their hands).

I think Malleus is specifically in a position where it will be difficult for Lilia to get through to him. His entire existence has been a lonely and isolating one, and it’s hard to get the socially awkward Malleus to open up to others or to have peers approach him due to his overwhelming aura and power. His distorted sense of time also doesn’t help with this, as it leads Malleus to drastically over or underestimating the time he has (ie he mistakes Vil’s magical aging as the result of more time passing than he had perceived, he often misses meetings because he mixed up the date/time, he believes the internship periods are “too short” to learn anything substantial, etc). He cannot enjoy the present moment because (to him) it slips away so fast, and he has an several centuries ahead of him. Now is nothing. Malleus does not value time because he has so much of it left; this is why Lilia’s words strike him at the end of episode 6: others may have life spans far shorter than theirs, but they can still come together to forge strong bonds in the short time that they have. “We live among such creatures, Malleus.” There is value in the quality of time spent together, not just the length of it—that is what Lilia is trying to express to Malleus, who will eventually outlive his classmates.

Lilia has had the worldly experiences and the age to fuel his understanding of the flow of time and how to live peacefully with other creatures, but Malleus has not—and those things cannot easily be taught, and certainly not in the time span of a few years of schooling. This is likely why Lilia goes out of his way to push Malleus to act outside of his comfort zone and to live his school life to its fullest, to go out and talk to people, to journey to new places and to steep himself in other cultures. He wants Malleus to have those enriching experiences because experience is the best teacher.

It is pointed out by the students of NRC that they don’t understand why someone as powerful and as important as Malleus is wasting his time with school. This is also something that Leona mentions in regards to himself; what could they possibly hope to learn from school? They can afford the best private tutors and resources without so much as glancing in the direction of the school grounds. But that’s just it: it’s the social experience of being surrounded by peers and interacting with them, having to work together with them, hearing from all walks of life. These cannot be gained in isolated self study. It’s also true that the negative experiences associated with those things cannot be had outside of school. The good and the bad are a part of life, and Malleus needs to become accustomed to it if he is to become a well-rounded and wise adult like Lilia.

The connections he makes and the good-byes that come with them… they’re important parts of growing up. Even if it hurts now, it’s meant to make you stronger in the long run.

(I’m not saying this is Lilia’s canonical reason for leaving so soon, but that it aligns with Lilia’s philosophy that we know of so far. It isn’t completely out of character for Lilia to announce his departure and to entrust his boys with the future while he is away.)

3. As for personality, to a lot of people I'm known as the shy, sweet and introverted kid. I dislike going to a lot of gatherings or parties because I dislike loud noises and I just prefer my own space, though I'm okay with a group of people and open up relatively quickly to a small group of people. I really like helping people and often times I stress myself out for absolutely no reason (and this has sadly lead to some health issues), and I put people above myself. I'm a picky person food wise, and I'm pretty messy with a low self esteem and I break down immediately apon being yelled at. The fearsome but lonely dragon himself, MALLEUS DRACONIA!!

Being a nonhuman being to begin with, Malleus is a lot more draconic in my AU.

Malleus is really introverted himself, though that seems to be from how the people around him treat him. He doesn't have any friends and often doesn't get invited to things, so he's content to stay inside with you. He knows the dangers of stressing yourself out, so he wants to keep you as relaxed as possible. Sometimes using his tail to pull you into his arms for a hug. He's careful with his claws so that he won't nick you.

Also bring a dragon, he absolutely has a hoard of things that catch his eye. Shiny, beautiful things. Things that he may gift to you of he's interested in you. He'd also be able to protect you from the loud, rude people. Hell, Sebek would probably shit up if Malleus ordered him to. This dragon is so smitten with you and wants to make you happy.

The sound of her name being said in such a deep and gentle voice had Cyndy looking up from her work. She had been working hard on a new story, and Malleus almost felt bad for disturbing her. She needed a break though.

"I brought you up some tea," The dragon spoke, holding the mug carefully in his clawed hands. It should have burned him holding it like that, but the dark scales that covered his hands seemed to protect them from the heat. He carried the tea over to her, setting it down before sitting next to her.

Cyndy smiled softly, grateful that he was thinking about her this much, "Thank you so much, Housewarden!" She took the mug and gently blew on the tea before taking a sip.

"Malleus," He said, a small smile gracing his lips. "Please call me Malleus."

"Okay Malleus!!"

Over the next few months following that small gifts would find their way to Cyndy. Some would be left in front of her door or in her room. Though there were some that Malleus handed directly to Cyndy. Little trinkets and jewelry. She was so confused that she went to Lilia to ask him.

"Awww, that's so cute!" The Elder vampire cooed when she told him what his oldest son was doing. "He's courting you!!"

"Courting me?" She asked, confused. "You mean he's interested in me like that?"

Lilia nodded, "If you want to return his feelings, try giving him gifts back. Flowers work. So do any shiny things that dragons like."

So Cyndy started leaving gifts for her sweet, protective dragon. She would gift him flowers and shiny things she found. She even spent money on some jewelry made specifically to dangle off of horns.

He was pleased when she put it on his horns, wrapping his arms and wings around her, "I'm so happy you return my feelings."

She smiles back, leaning against his chest and relaxing to the sound of his rumbling dragon purrs, "And I hope I make you so much happier in the future."

The first year usually gathered in the Mirror chamber and waited for the other to arrive.

But this usually depends on their mood... For example if Ace didn't complete his homework he will rush to the classroom first

I headcanon that kantokusei ALWAYS arrived first cause have you seen the distance between ramshackle and the school building?!?

So some morning it will go like this:

"KANTOKUSEIIII!!!!! HAVE YOU COMPLETE CREWEL-SENSEI'S HOMEWORK!!

Or

"ne ne~ kantokusei let me see your answer~ pleaseeee"

Sometimes Epel will have breakfast with Kantokusei too... This usually happens when Vil is extra "naggy" that morning.

On some morning Jack will knock on the ramshackle door and ask if they want to join on his morning jog

I bet they have a chatroom and let me tell you that chatroom is noisy af.

Sometimes they will have breakfast together but Sebek rarely joins because of his "knightly duties".

AFTERNOON

Whoever ends up arriving at the cafeteria first has to guard their place if they all didn't manage to save a seat they just eat outside.

In a rare time Ortho will join and eat together!

They have a specific table to eat so it's easier to find each other.

Sebek rarely joins the first year but sometimes Lilia forces him to spend time with his friends.

Ace: You know... If Malleus is so strong then why do you need to guard him 24 hours

Some day they have club activities, and since Kantokusei is not in any club(is it??) Kantokusei just tags along with anyone to join them (mostly they got dragged to the basketball club... Because... Floyd....)

Kantokusei takes part-time working at Mostro Lounge cause let's be honest, Crowley didn't provide enough money to survive.

If it's on weekends they definitely stay late playing cards or watching movies.(of course after informing their dorm leader)

They will go to Sam's shop to buy some Ice-cream and snacks and if there's someone who has lost some sort of bet or dare, bet they are the one that is paying.

Kantokusei NEVER lost and all of them are secretly salty about it.

Not Deuce, Deuce is amazed with Kantokusei's power .

They bought a projector that can connect to their phone.

Ace: Come on~ Kantokusei will be lonely if we don't visit Ramshackle dorm.

The first year has a list of the scariest students and to avoid them if possible.

Somehow Kantokusei's name is number one in 75% of their list. This is because they saw how Kantokusei deals with all the overblot bullshit and the way Kantokusei casually talks with Malleus.

The first year gang too has learned not to pissed Kantokusei off.

Kantokusei lowkey thinks it's amusing, but if that's what it takes for people to not pick a fight with them, they will gladly maintain that position.

HEY! I really need some help, but since I don't know many people here, you seemed like a more affordable option.

I was writing about some of the boys from Twisted Wonderland, but when it got to the Malleus part, my mind went blank. He's not one of my favorite characters and I don't do much research on him. Could you give me tips on how to characterize it, please?

Oh God this took so much time...

This is my interpretation of Malleus. You could have a different opinion than me (just saying before someone jumps at me and says that I'm just wrong and messed up and that their cute, cute dragon could never be like that.)

WARNINGS: loneliness, death, unhealthy relationship, idk this whole thing us just a huge outcry for help from him in my eyes

I also did this on my phone so... typos guaranteed.

Relationship to others

Malleus is very lonely. This is no secret. The game tells us very early on that he is being avoided by others. But in my opinion it goes even further. Silver, Sebek, Lilia and his grandmother are the ones closest to him as far as we know (could be that there is another character that isn't released yet). But no, I think there is even a distance between him, Lilia, Sebek and Silver and if you ask me, Lilia is the one who is at fault for this one. Lilia raised Silver as his son and Sebek was also very close to him his entire life. Now think about it, how do they behave around Malleus? Yes, ofc they dare to talk to him and don't avoid him but... what I'm seeing is pretty cold. They aren't those BFFs that we see at the first glance. They are literally servants and admirers. Nothing more. They put him on an unreachable pedestal and don't even try to approach him on an even more casual level. This is where I want to scream at Lilia. He was the one who practically raised these two with how much time they spend with him. Heck Silver attends school with his father! So Lilia is in my eyes the one who created the distance. Had he told his son “respect that one but try to be friends” when he was still young their relationship would probably look very different. That professionalism would always be there but maybe, just maybe, Malleus would have had a true friend. Sebek... I can't really say completely in his case that Lilia is entirely at fault here. The thing is, he has a grandfather. I read somewhere that this grandfather was supposed to be some sort of military figure in the past as well but I can't find it again so I can't say that this is 100% true but if it is then maybe that grandfather made him so obsessed with Malleus. Who knows? But if not, wtf Lilia are you trying to isolate Malleus bc if you did then congrats, your plan worked. Lilia is also another can of worms we need to talk about. Lilia said that he took care of Malleus. Ok great but Lilia also raised Silver and not in the castle where Malleus grew up. Nope. In a village in the middle of nowhere. My man just said "Bye, see u again sometime in the future" to a already lonely person. Maybe Lilia didn't put much thought ij it but... uh... he failed him in my opinion.

Malleus granny? Idk we don't know much about her but I would give her 5 out of 5 stars for the good granny award. Takes over a kingdom again so he can live normally (or something close to that) for once and even writes him letters when she is already busy.

So yeah. And the servants in the castle? Probably not warm towards him as well. Most likely just plain, cold master-servant relationship.

So ofc it's no wonder he accepts Yuu immediately and likes them so much. Imagine, accepting a silly nickname from someone you met once before. He must be starving for affection at this point.

His "haughty" behavior

I would say this is because he never learned how to have a normal conversation. This is bc of two points which the second one is so not 100% secure. One, would you talk casually to the fifth most powerful magician in the world totally normal without fear? And two, here I can't be too sure but I, once more, read somewhere that he has never left the castle before coming to NRC. So yeah, everything he ever did in terms of communication was either cold servant talk which didn't last longer than a few minutes at best and conversations with his family. We don't know much about his parents so.... yeah. Granny was probably busy with the kingdom so... can't be too long those convos...

So yeah... if everything you do is based upon ordering you might come off as haughty and basically weird.

"He is just lonely and in truth he is a fluffy dragon."

I see this kind of thing so many times in fanfic about him which I can't agree with.

No absolutely not. Malleus isn't "fluffy" and "just" lonely. Malleus is a huge possibile threat that can wipe out huge masses of people in a short period of time. Also, do you think that someone who was raised in a way so that they can be a authority in the future would be like your friendly, flower loving neighbour? No, he just likes roses but forget that "friendly" part. We can actually see this in his conversations with Leona. Let's take his ceremonial robes story as a example. Leona was unfriendly, and Malleus retaliated. Not in your typical "you mean so I am mean" way but with trying to intimidate him. Have you seen those eyes and his choice of words? That isn't your typical fight. It's a learned way to get what you want and crush your enemy. (It didn't work on Leona though bc... yeah let's say bc it's Leona and it's a completely different analysis but laziness of mine.) The only way why Malleus behaves somewhat friendly towards the player (and if we look really long at his words they aren't even taht friendly) is because he is, like I already said, starving for attention.

But Veil didn't you just say that it's wrong what he is "just" lonely. What I think is being misunderstood is how lonely he truly is. If I'm saying "just" then I'm talking about someone who is stuck in their room working on something and bc their job js so time consuming the haven't met friends in a while. But Malleus, uh... no. Some meetings, a nice "Hi, how is it going?" is far from the solution. I would even say that it has gone so far that he is a potential danger if someone were to take Yuu away. Need a example? His lab story coat. His tamadochi (is that how you write it in English?) is being broken. Now, it's not a person but we can see how sad be gets over that and most importantly, how attached he is to a thing that was never even alive. A simulation of something alive. A something that would give him the feeling that there is something alive close to him which isn't distant. See the desperation there? He doesn't just say "Oh well, how sad" and then buys a new one. Oh no. He repairs it. And, I never took care of such a pet and I see that some might get attached to it but he rewards Deuce with fricking rare ore. He even asks if that is too little like bro, that attachment isn't normal anymore. Don't give me "He just doesn't know the value of repairing it bc it's a machine." I think that this was done out of great gratitude which can be compared with a doctor saving their patient in a critical state and their family thanking him. For Malleus, Deuce just saved a living being and... how lonely do you have to be to feel that way?

a/n: I started posting my writings here because I want to improve my English — so I technically wouldn't make this request. But! Someone on Wattpad (where I take requests) asked for the same thing, so I rolled up my sleeves and wrote this guide today in both languages. Enjoy~

1. Don't be afraid of him.

It is said that the first impression is the most important.

So when you first saw this guy walking through the corridor of Diasomnia, it was hard for you to get rid of that view from your head.

Illuminated both by the green magic flames set in the lobby, as well as by the moon, which eventually managed to break through the dark clouds and with a bright glow appear in the windows of the dormitory, he seemed... lonely and beautiful.

You shuddered as you took a step down the hallway and the dark-haired man turned to you. He measured you with his emerald eyes. And then you recognized him; all the conversations about the mysterious and fearsome Malleus Draconia flew through your head.

Everything told you to rush towards the hallway and run as far as possible, but a piece of you found it inappropriate. Or rather, no one would want to chase everyone away from themself... right?

When you realized you were looking at him for a while, you took a deep breath and nod slightly.

"Good evening, Draconia-san," you said quickly. After a while you added, "The moon is beautiful today, don't you think?”

Today was a really wonderful day: the test was postponed, your favorite dish was given in the canteen, and for some reason, the last two lessons were canceled – your class had to make just a quick note about a topic and it took less than fifteen minutes.

"Something happened?" Malleus asked, seeing how almost in the jumps you walk past him. When you looked at him, he added, "You smile a lot.”

"I can stop smiling if you want," you made a sad face, but after a while, the corners of your mouth began to tremble uncontrollably and twisted up again. "Oops, I can’t. Today... it was such a good day... that I think I'm slowly using my life's happiness.”

"I didn't say that smiling is bad," he said. "You look so much better when you smile.”

"Oh," you sighed with apparent surprise. "Is it a compliment?"

"It’s rather a fact..?"

 3. From time to time visit him during club activities.

"Is this a class of the ‘Gargoyle research society club’?” with a deaf knock you opened the door. Malleus turned to you, making a break from browsing through the materials gathered in the library about the history of each of the gargoyles on the school grounds. And there were a lot of them.

"Yes," he replied briefly, getting up. "Do you need something, [Name]?"

"Not at all, my club don’t have a meeting today," you said, closing the door behind you.

You looked around: the room was as clean as ever, except for one desk, where were laid several huge volumes about statues in NRC.

“Are you here alone?” You said before you thought. You lowered your eyes to see Malleus nodding unconcerned slightly. You blinked several times trying to think of what else you could say. "This room... could be a secret base," that was the first thing that came to your mind. Malleus turned his head to one side, uncertain of your response.

“A secret base..? Why?”

"I have no idea," you admitted quickly. "But the very existence of a mysterious point is interesting, isn't it? Doing normal things, such as watching movies or just talking, seems more interesting in places like this,” After a moment of silence, you sighed. "You know what, this idea with the base is stupid”

"We can try," he replied with serious tone. You raised your eyes to see how he looked around the room. "But you'll just have to explain this idea to me in more detail. We can also tell Lilia, Silver and Sebek about it...” he smiled as if seeing your five together in his thoughts was a pleasure. "It will be surely... fun.”

 4. Get yourself a Tamagotchi.

"Look!" you spin a new key chain on your finger. You finally stopped and showed it to Malleus. "Now they are matching!”

A small electronic toy, in a dark green screen that, when it flashed, showed a virtual, pixelated animal. You were impressed with how good quality it was made, especially since you only gave the Shroud brothers a sketch of a toy that Malleus owned.

Your keychain was exactly the same, just a different color and with another pet.

Malleus pulled out his own device and put it on the table. He pressed one of the buttons and a small pet appeared on the keychain – a dragon.

"They can now be friends," you brought your toy closer to so-called Gao-Gao Dragon-kun.

"Do you think so?" He asked in a very surprised tone, but it sounded as if in a moment he were about to burst out with an inexplicably joyful and surprised laugh.

"Of course. Everyone needs a decent friend, no?”

 5. Gain the trust of Lilia, Silver and Sebek.

Lilia, one of Malleus' closest people. It is much more likely that you will meet him before Malleus. He will be very proud when he learns that Malleus has found a friend. If you become a taster of Lilia, in terms of his pastries, he will 100% like you, and at 20% you will leave the kitchen alive and well.

Silver, who has mastered the art of sleeping in any conditions. It's easy to get him into your plans, although with the craziest ones he will hesitate. Rather well-disposed towards everyone, he can cover for you when you are not in class— but he usually inadvertently falls asleep and both of you often have penal assignments after school.

Sebek, faithful to Malleus, if he doesn't like you, you won't have too many opportunities to stay by Malleus's side without a thunderous glances at you. He will recognize you if you will listen carefully to his monologues about his master and as a sign of your friendship, he will teach you by heart of all the titles and achievements of Malleus so far.

With this trio by your side, you can get a lot further than you might have imagined...

 6. Be a master in hide and seek.

You’d give your right arm that your breath was too loud.

You pressed your hands to your mouth as you crouched in the corner of the room.

From whose voices you already heard, you knew that Lilia had already found Sebek. This meant that you or Silver would still be helping cook dinner since Malleus didn’t come at the start of the game.

This may seem silly, but the ability to play classic games was one of the elements of the art of survival in Diasomnia.

It was thanks to games like ‘stone-paper-scissors’, hide and seek or tag that household chores fell on the shoulders of the losers. Lilia loved the idea, and there was always a proud smile on his lips when he saw his beloved children play together.

You heard the steps behind you and shivered.

Very slowly you turned around and looked up to see Malleus standing over you and wondering what you were doing, crouching in the darkest corner of the room.

Puns were also included in the survival pack.

Fearing that Lilia would hear your whisper, you put your finger on your mouth, asking him not to say a word. You put a begging eye into it – all but not cooking with Lilia. Not again.

Malleus nodded, recognizing the gravity of the situation, although he smiled.

Really, no one would want Malleus to be an enemy.

Or at least in such a situation.

 7. Do not hesitate to ask him for help with learning.

"In theory, you should focus on the space around you," Malleus pulled a wand in front of him. It flashed, and almost at the same time, a thin but incredibly strong protective barrier was created around him. “Weaker spells can be reflected. In turn, the stronger ones are better to block”

You nodded understandingly.

Defensive magic was not something easy to understand. Most depended on the person against whom the counter spell was being prepared. And there are countless people who walk on this Earth and want to start fights.

"Unique spells block or avoid physically," he continued. You nodded at every subsequent sentence, slowly feeling like all the lessons are eventually gaining transparency. “Using unique magic against unique magic, the stronger will win, both will lead to explosions or completely reduce.

He looked at you when you wrote down the last sentence in your notebook.

"I sincerely hope that you will only need this information in class," he said with a sigh. "If you need help, call me. I will come. I promise.”

 8. Sometimes be persuaded to wear extravagant clothes.

"Do you really think it suits me?" you turned around, looking at yourself from every possible angle in the mirror.

You were going to the theater in a few classes to see some era-related play that you've been discussing now in history lessons. Everyone, respecting the reputation, actions and achievements of theatre, dressed in their best clothes.

Malleus stood next to you.

He was already wearing a black and white outfit with green accessories. They all worked so well together and fitted him like a glove that you were sure that the whole outfit was made especially for him.

"Yes," he replied. "Everything you put on today suited you very well.”

Once again, with critical eyesight, you looked at the outfit, face and hair, before you quickly turned off the lights in the room and closed the door behind you.

Then you smiled at Malleus.

"We can go now," you said. You made your way through the portal to the main NRC building. "And... thank you for your help.

"My pleasure," he said. Under no circumstances was it just a polite formula. He really loved looking at you.

 9. Invite him to your birthday/party.

"Another break from school soon, huh?" — you muttered, leaning against the railing.

You took a deep breath and let the fresh, pleasant air refresh you.

"Are you going to home, [Name]?" Malleus asked. Green lights were still flying around him, so you guessed he’d just appeared here.

"I haven't decided yet," you sighed. "It would be nice to go home, but the break won't be very long... Ah, that's right!” you straightened up and turned to him. "How about spending another break together? As soon as I can, I will contact my family... although I cannot promise anything.”

Though he did not show it, Malleus' heart beat a little faster.

Spend free time? With someone? With someone he likes?

"Of course," he sounded less calm than he thought. He wasn’t often invited anywhere, even for the things he should have been on, so there was a lot of excitement growing in his body. "I don't see anything against it.”

 10. From "The Great Malleus Draconia-sama" to "Love".

"Ah, The Great Malleus-sama!" you sighed theatrically, taking from him a box of chocolates with a joyful smile. You could promise that because of this dark-haired boy here, you slowly become pampered. "Thank you for your generosity!”

Malleus frowned.

"The Great Malleus-sama"..?” he pondered, putting his fingers to his chin. "Did Sebek told you again to call me with this title?"

"No," you laughed softly at his reaction. "I did it out of curiosity. Maybe I could call you some cute nickname, hmm?" you smiled mischievously.

"For example?"

"By adding ‘-chan’ to your name?” you turned on your phone and typed something related to the nicknames. You started reading suggestions and struggled to hold back from laughing. ” ’Sunshine’, ‘star’, ‘flower’, ‘sweetheart’, ‘love’...

"I like the last one," he said, and the invisible force stung you to the ground.

"Would you like me to call you like that? Out of curiosity or out of love?" You laughed, but your cheeks were all red with blushes.

He smiled sincerely at your reaction.

"Hmm, I wonder..?"

Good morning/evening! Anon that asked about the concepts here. 😅 I’ve lately been super caught up on the angst potential of a Yuu who is slowly dying as a result of magic exposure due to not being from Twisted Wonderland. There’s just so many ways this could go, depending on how much Yuu likes being in Twisted Wonderland.

For instance, imagine living your entire life caught up in the wonder of fantasy and mythology only to be whisked off to a strange and wonderful world full of the magic that made up your childhood dreams. Getting to live your fantasies, see so many things that before you could only dream of, meet so many interesting people, and make memories that you would never forget. A fairytale given life. Only to be brought crashing down to earth with the knowledge that you are withering away here so far from home, possibly fated to never to see your loved ones again. The loneliness and fear that would set in with the realization as this turns from a dream come true to a complete nightmare.

A child cursed to die alone and forgotten as a stranger in a strange land.

Anyway, thoughts?

I love this idea, it’s so tragic. The idea of an inevitable ending blooming from something that was once so wonderful.

I almost think it’s more tragic if Yuu never wanted to return, if their life in this world was much better than their last. Finally having friends, people who care about them. Getting to live life and do things instead of wasting away in their room all day. Escaping everything in their past and leaving it all behind.

Of course, things are never that simple. Yuu does not belong here. They were never destined to befriend Ace and Deuce, to stay with Grim forever. There’s no one to blame, no one to curse except the cold, unforgiving hands of the universe.

You try to stay positive at first. Sure, you’re the first case of this happening and no one knows how to treat it, but that doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t mean you won’t be okay. Right?

When you first get sick, more people come to visit than you imagined. It’s endearing, seeing even those you weren’t close with stop by to express their support.

Riddle comes by, Cater and Trey following. Riddle tells you about classes, trying to keep you caught up on things. Cater tells him to stop worrying about school, but you like the normalcy of it. As though you’ll make it long enough to make keeping up with school worthwhile. Trey brings his baked goods, much more delicious than anything they’ve been serving in the hospital.

Even those who seemed apathetic to your existence would come sometimes. Leona came, it seemed, just to taken naps; you appreciated the silent company. Azul would stop by and drag Idia along for the three of you to play chess together. Kalim would come bursting in; it was nice, almost, to see someone that positive during this time. Jamil would accompany him, of course, immediately going into caretaker mode for you. Vil was busy, but he would stop by when he could, offering to get you an early screening of his newest movie. Rook would come too, describing everything going on at campus in such a beautiful way that it was almost as if you were there to experience it. Ortho would also insist on visiting you, meaning Idia would be forced to come once again, and play video games with you; it was perfect while you were bed-bound. Malleus and Lilia come when they can, bringing trinkets and small gifts. Malleus even offers to hold his club meetings in your room, if it were to help.

It’s harder to hold on to that hope once the symptoms start. It’s hazy, for one. You sleep most hours away, but it’s always a treat to wake up with Adeuce sitting in a chairs nearby, Grim cuddled into the side of the hospital bed.

It’s harder for everyone to visit, after a while. You understand. They have their own lives, things keeping them away. They have futures, unlike you. Still, it’s a bit lonely, to feel that everyone is starting to forget about you before you’re even gone. Even with your friends and Grim spending every hour they aren’t in class here, it’s hard.

It just isn’t fair.

You aren’t from this world, and soon it’s as though no one will remember you were ever here in the first place.

A/N: because I thought if would be funny and I’m still thinking about it. I did every single NRC character... except Ortho!

"twst cast reacts to their s/o and their 100 cm nesoberi of the twst character.” 

Riddle would stare in absolute disbelief as you happily presented your one-hundred-centimetre nesoberi of him to… well, him. “What do you mean I’m cute—!” He’ll attempt to protest, but he’s so caught off guard that the only thing he can really do is flush completely red and maybe stomp off. He’ll get pouty when you only hug the stuff toy in bed afterwards, but he won’t tell you to get rid of it. (Even if he secretly does want you to do so).

Ace would be all smirk and absolute arrogance. “Oh, you like me so much you got a stuff toy version of me?” He’ll watch as you carry it around in your embrace and he’ll tease you about how tightly you’re holding onto him too. He might even brag or talk about how cute you are to his friends… That all changes when he realizes you’re neglecting him in favour of the stuff toy. He’ll start getting jealous and might try to rip it out of your hands so that the real Ace could take its place.

Deuce’s first reaction is to separate you from the toy because he thinks its some weird prank from Ace or something. Then he’ll just be confused, “Wait—you bought a stuff toy version of me?” He’ll blush at how much you cuddle it—and he’s the type of person who will walk out while you cuddle ‘him’ because he feels like he’s intruding. He won’t tell you to get rid of it, but he does end up eyeing it weirdly.

Trey would be surprised—and probably really confused about it too. He doesn’t really react wildly to it, he might even treat it as some sort of pet? He’ll pat it on the head and… sometimes he’ll just squish its face. You will notice… that weird stuff happens though. Whenever Trey is over you’ll come into your bedroom and the stuff toy is deliberately positioned weirdly. One time, he pulled you in for heated kiss and from the corner of your eye—is the stuff toy facing the corner of the room? Upside down? “I didn’t do it.” Trey claimed but a mischievous spark in his eyes says otherwise.

Cater squeals. He thinks it’s absolutely cute and hang on—“Babe, do you have more merch of me? Can you bring it out? Quick! I want a photo~! #Mydarlinglovesme #Thisisthecutest #Catermerch.” He’s not exactly surprised that merchandise of him exists, however he is incredibly honoured that you would buy it. He’s not going to hate it too much and he’ll find it funny how he’s sharing you with another clone of his… As long as you remember who you’re dating first amongst them all of course!

Leona’s first reaction to it is to let out a hiss. There’s another cat invading his territory and he is far from happy. His first reaction is to grab it and destroy it with his Unique Magic. No, he’s not going to listen to you—he doesn’t care how much you might’ve spent on it. He’s getting rid of it right now. If it somehow survives longer than a day, every time he sees it in your hands—he’s just going to bristle like a possessive cat before—“That’s it. Hand it over right now, I’m going to dust that smug face—"

Jack… doesn’t really know how to react to it. He just crosses his arms and stares at it rather oddly. “So… you bought that…?” His tail is wagging just the littlest bits though, so you know that even if he’s not showing it—he actually is a little… thrilled that you wanted a stuff toy version of him. For some reason he starts treating it like it’s a member of his pact. Sometimes you’ll catch him talking to it and telling it to watch over you, “Take care of them, okay? They’re precious… to both of us.”

Ruggie just squints and he has a very confused, maybe even disturbed expression on his face. It’s a “I’m not judging you and your questionable use of money at all” expression. Other than that, I can see him just not really acknowledging it’s existence—maybe just patting it on the head sometimes. “Shishishi… What a waste of money.” he’ll say out loud even if there’s quite an indescribable tenderness on his face too.

Azul would be a straight up mix of embarrassment, pride, and horror. Embarrassment because he can’t believe you bought a stuff toy of him and you’re carrying it around, doting on it so much (“I need my octopus pot”). Pride exactly for the same reason too—he can’t believe he’s so lucky to have a lover who would so flamboyantly display their love for him like this… Though maybe tone it down a bit, please? Too much is embarrassing. And finally, he feels horror because, “YOU SPENT HOW MUCH MADOL ON THIS THING?”  

Jade starts off incredibly flabbergasted. He might stare, just completely dumbfounded for a bit as you parade the stuff toy around. Afterwards, I can see him responding with amusement over how much you dote on the stuff toy. He might just tease you over it too.  However, if it takes up too much of your attention, he becomes quite vengeful. One day you’ll come back to your room and see the stuff toy gone while Jade is standing there dusting his hands, “My, have you returned? Come my flower, your attention has been stolen away from me for too long… fufufu.”

Floyd just wants to get rid of it. He stares at it in stunned silence—it may be the quietest you’ve ever actually seen him. He’ll point at it accusingly, meet your gaze and just whisper a soft “Imposter.” Floyd then begins to have some sort of weird rivalry with the stuff toy—glaring at it, growling—he might even bite it as he rips is out of your arms. He won’t tell you to get rid of it, but it’s obvious that he wants to get rid of it. If he happens to want to cuddle with you and it’s in your arms? He’ll just grab the toy and toss it over his shoulder, uncaring of where it might land. “I’m not sharing you with anyone! Or anything!”

Kalim is thrilled? He’s just, “This is so cute! Wait, I should have one commissioned of you too so we can carry it around together! Hahah, should we get one made for Jamil as well?” (Jamil voice: “No. Don’t you dare—Oi! Kalim!”) Either way, Kalim will probably find a way to get a one-hundred-centimetre nesoberi of you as well. He’ll insist on the two of you going out on double dates with the huge stuff toys too. “It will be a lot of fun! Really!”

Jamil takes one long look at it before he sighs very deeply and shoots you a look. It’s a look of “why would you do this to me”, “please don’t show Kalim” and also a “I’m going to turn around and when I turn back around that better not be there and we can both pretend this didn’t happen.”  He’s not going to be the most outwardly flattered. He’ll just instantly be exhausted seeing it exist. He won’t actively tell you to get rid of it but he’ll pretend he never saw it. (Okay so maybe he can’t help a tiny smirk that curls up his lips as he sees you lovingly dote on… well… him.)

In Vil’s case, the nesoberi was a limited item that he was expected to hand out to the lucky lottery winner. He’s not so much stunned that the stuff toy exists, what really got him is when you merrily skipped onto the stage to claim it. There’s something like fond exasperation on his face and he’ll bend down to ask, “You know darling, I could’ve gotten one made for you if you wanted it so much.” At your dismissal and adamant note that “Of course I was going to win you fairly this time too!” Vil’s lips curled up into an arrogant smile. There was no winning against you. 

Epel‘s first instinct is to actually punch the stuff toy and if you protest—“What? It has a really punch-able face!” He’ll end up quite grumpy as he sees you give it so much attention. He doesn’t quite understand the point and his irritation somehow distracts him from the embarrassment of seeing you happily cuddle with the… thing. He also might not register that his irritation is jealousy at you giving your attention to something else too. He’ll have glaring matches with the thing muttering, “it’s not that cute.”

Rook… well, jokes on you. You went to try to get a reaction out of him by presenting him a stuff toy only to walk in on him organizing his own collection of one-hundred-centimetre nesoberis. The pride of his collection being one he commissioned of you (the rest of his collection you ask? Why there’s a Vil, a Neige… and is that a Leona one—?) Something he won’t tell you however, is that he does feel the slightest bit thrown off that you managed to get a stuff toy version of him… “You truly are a thrill to be with, surprising me like this—Mon Monarque.”

Idia blushes furiously at the sight of the nesoberi. Out of everyone else, he understands what you mean by showing him this. That he’s your favourite person—and though it embarrasses him, he also feels honoured by the fact you had a nesoberi of him commissioned. He’ll shyly ask, “So… would it be okay if I get merch of you too?” Once he has permission, he’s enthusiastically commissioning his favourite artists for a nesoberi of you. Sooner or later his room would be filled with figurines of you two and fanart as well!

Malleus will start out thinking it’s really amusing… and how adorable for his bright light to have picked up a toy resembling him and cuddling with it as well. He might end up cooing quite a bit as he watches you hug it. However, there will be a point where Malleus will start getting lonely. He’ll feel as if you’re forgetting to invite him out because you had the stuff toy to hang out with instead. He might sulk and watch from quite a distance. When you invite him out, he might pettily bring up the stuff toy instead. “Ah, my bright light… to think you can make me feel like a child again…”

You surprise Lilia for quite a few minutes before he tosses his head back and laughs. He’s absolutely amused by the fact that you have managed to purchase a nesoberi of him. He’ll probably borrow it for a bit, twisting and turning it—remarking about how the craftsmanship was excellent. Then he’ll ask you if he can borrow it longer so he can play pranks on the whole Diasomnia. He’ll pretend to have been turned into a stuff toy, “Come now love, it will be fun to watch them all panic~!”

Silver just blinks very slowly as he stared at the stuff toy then you and back… He just shrugs it off and proceeds to flop down right on top of it. He’ll note that hey, it’s pretty soft before conking out. Eventually he grows to be fond of it as a pillow and he’ll often use it as a pillow if you’re too busy doing something else. At the end, it will be you who’d get all pouty when you realize he doesn’t cuddle as much with you because he can do it with the stuff toy. One time he’ll go over your place and blink in surprise when you’ve hidden it away. He’ll laugh softly before he’ll tug you gently onto the bed for a cuddle, “Silly, of course you’re still my favourite one to cuddle.”

Sebek’s mouth falls open in shock as he catches sight of the stuff toy. He opens and closes his mouth several times, his face slowly turning complete red before he promptly loses it—“Why do you have a stuff toy of me!?” Sebek literally has no idea how to deal with this. His feelings are somewhere in between complete embarrassment and exasperation. He will refuse to acknowledge it’s existence, he’ll pretend it never happened and he never saw it. It really is fun for you though, because whenever you bring it out the boy’s immediately blushing and stuttering.

I feel like Dire would just stand, stunned for a bit as he stared at the stuff toy. With the mask in the way, you won’t be able to truly tell how he feels—but once it sinks in that yes you are in fact, clutching a stuff toy version of him—he’ll recoil in surprise. He’s someone who’ll exaggerate his surprised by hopping backwards, raising his hands in the air as he peers at you with wide yellow eyes. “E-eh!? Why do you have a stuff toy of me?” I think he’ll just be amused (and maybe slightly petty if it steals your attention too much).

Divus would be surprised then flattered. His smirk is wide as he draws closer to you—eyes meeting your own before he bent down to touch the toy. Mozus would just have a very exhausted, deadpanned expression as he studies the huge stuff toy on the bed. Lucius on the other hand, is incredibly thrilled and will pounce the new toy giddily. Eventually you and Lucius might end up having a sort of cute rivalry over it—where you just want your cuddle toy and Lucius just wants his bed. Mozus is slightly weirded out by how much enjoyment Lucius seems to have lying down on this stuff toy version of him. “Don’t even say a thing my dear, I fear I don’t want to know.”

Ashton’s immediate reaction to this new huge thing on your bed is “how heavy is it?” and “can I use it as a weight?” I don’t think they’re as heavy as he wants them to be though, so he’ll be disappointed for a bit. He’ll then brighten up when he realizes that it’s actually a stuff toy version of him and he’ll happily yell, “You got a stuff toy of me? How cute!” He’ll just straight up think it’s adorable that you got one and likely chance, he’ll try to get one of you too to match.

Dorm Leaders as Dads

I’m guessing he might’ve only become alright with having kids around his late 20’s to early 30’s as he worries about being a good father.

Being strict is a given considering he was raised but as Riddle is much older, he’s learned to heal from the wounds his mother dealt to him and become more lenient. Among the dorm leaders, he’s the one who is constantly trying to improve so that he doesn’t become like his mother.

Always tries to be there for his child, wanting to be the best parent for them as he knows that being a parent is a huge responsibility.

Takes parenting very seriously and does whatever he can to be a good father. Probably the most serious about this.

His child would end up being a very polite person who always tries to do what is right.

Yeahhh uh good luck asking this one for kids because it’s gonna take a while. I’m guessing he’ll only be fine with it around mid to late 30’s. He’d have to really love his spouse to actually consider it first.

He’s pretty lax with rules when it comes to his child, but still shows them he cares by actually making the effort to spend time with them. When his child has achieved something, he’ll make sure their efforts are rewarded.

He’s definitely a bit protective because he doesn’t actually want his child to face the same prejudice he got as achild. Talk shit about his child and you will regret it.

Probably not a very good father at first to be honest but he’ll try. He’s a quick learner and genius so he’ll be able to develop into a good father later down the line.

The child will end up a bit spoiled but confident and intelligent.

Immediately tried to plan out his child’s life so that they’d have a direction but his spouse likely said that it might not be too good of an idea. He kept it as a backup plan for them, in case they need it. Then, he made sure to research absolutely thoroughly about parenting. His parents didn’t play a big role in his life so he wished to be better than that.

Tweels are the child’s uncles, you can’t convince me otherwise.

Azul is not too strict but not too lax either. Sometimes he’ll be a bit busy with Mostro Lounge but still always makes sure to save some time for his child everyday. He will likely also teach the kid how to protect themselves as he doesn’t want them to be bullied like he was.

The child would grow up to be intelligent and cunning, possibly more so than their father. If they wished it, they could inherit Mostro Lounge too.

I take it that like Azul, Vil will be a bit focused in his line of work but it will be easier to convince him to have kids as someone who seems to be quite good with them. I’d say early to mid 20’s will be when the child is conceived.

Vil is already quite the strict mother figure to those around him and he’s not too different to his own child. He fusses and worries over them and their wellbeing a lot. But— he still makes sure they can be independent and confident.

So, as a child actor, Vil has plenty of experience on what it’s like to be one. However, he doesn’t wish to push that onto his child as there’s a lot of bad things he’s experienced in the industry. To protect them, he makes sure to keep their identity a secret to the public.

He makes sure that he supports his child despite his busy schedule and makes for a wonderful and supportive father. Their efforts will never be unnoticed by him because he knows how it feels to have your efforts wasted.

The child grows up to be confident and strict but also bright and charming.

Probably around his 30’s. I don’t know if his heart would be ready for the responsibility of taking care of a child until that age. It just takes so much energy.

Awkward as hell about it and even tried making android nanies for the child to take care of the child instead of him because he’s worried he would mess up. His spouse would probably reassure him that he’ll be alright and that they’d help him along the way.

If he can’t make android nannies for the child, he’ll make sure to make robot pets so that the child is never lonely even when he’s busy with something.

Even if he’s awkward, Idia tries his best for the child and hopes they see that.

The child grows up to be a bit socially awkward but loveable and a gamer.

Considering we don’t seem to have an exact age for Malleus, I’ll just say he’s probably chill with kids whenever you’re comfortable.

He’s a great father considering he’s already had experience raising Silver and has Lilia to guide him along the way.

The only downside to him is that as the King of the Valley of Thorns, it’s likely that he’ll be the busiest father among the seven dorm leaders. But worry not, his duties can’t hold him from being a wonderful father to his child all the time.

The child will have many guardians as they grow up like Lilia (the most prominent one), Silver, and Sebek.

Since the child is royalty, they’ll likely grow up to be regal and elegant with grace that rivals the Witch of Thorns herself.

Dealing with a Cat | Twisted Wonderland Headcanons

TwstOBer 6. Cat - Dorms and reader

For this theme, I decided to do headcanons of how I would think each of the dorms would handle it if the reader had been turned into a cat.

Heartslabyul: Riddle would be very surprised and work with Trey to figure out how to change you back. Deuce would be petting and playing with you but Ace would be a brat and mess with you while Cater especially would be taking selfies with you as a cat to post on his Magicam. You would run around, jumping on top of tables and knocking over teacups which only results in Riddle getting pissed and yelling for the others to catch you. Finally when they do catch you, they keep you cooped up in the kitchen until they can get an antidote made, but Trey makes sure to spoil you with good food in the meantime.

Savanaclaw: Leona and Ruggie would find it hilarious that you’re a cat while only Jack feels bad and tries to find an antidote for you. But of course Ruggie gets stuck having to feed and care for you since Leona is too lazy. Ruggie would play with you and Jack would wait until no one is around to pet and snuggle with you, protecting you from others in the dorm. Leona would occasionally pet you until he got bored and took a nap. But being a cat and demanding attention, you would meow and whine at Leona loudly the whole time before eventually laying on his face which Ruggie takes a picture of as it goes viral.

Octavinelle: The Leech twins find it quite amusing and Azul is more than willing to make an antidote to turn you back, but you owe him once you’re human again. Azul keeps you in his office with him while he does paperwork, thinking that it’ll be fine until you jump up onto his desk and purposely sit on top of the papers. He sighs, giving you some pets and attention but when you still won’t move, he gets Jade and Floyd to take care of you for now. You keep trying to get at the fishies in the Monstro Lounge aquariums, running around as Floyd chases after you. He likes to mess up your fur and squeeze you, Jade making sure Floyd doesn’t kill you as he feeds you food from the kitchen.

Scarabia: Kalim is excited and loves it that you’re a cat while Jamil is annoyed. Poor Jamil has to work on getting the antidote while Kalim just constantly plays with you, giving you a LOT of love and pets. But sometimes it is too much as whenever you want to be alone, he keeps on bugging you so you run off and he goes after you. Jamil wasn’t too happy with you at all, stuck with all the responsibility of taking care of you and getting you back to normal. But he soon warms up to you, giving you pets sometimes especially while you are sleeping next to him or on his lap. He also feeds you good food that he makes, but nothing spicy of course.

Pomefiore: Vil would be shocked, working on an antidote and Rook thinks that you are beautiful even as a cat while Epel just sighs. Vil definitely would make sure that you are properly groomed first so you look good and don’t shed all over the place, feeding you the highest quality cat food. Rook would take you outside with him to go hunting as he watches you go after vermin, snakes, and birds with ease like the predator that you are. Honestly Epel doesn’t care that much, giving you pets and attention when he feels like it, thankful that you don’t bother him while he does his apple carving. Vil is not afraid to punish and teach you how to behave when you try to scratch the furniture or knock over his cosmetics.

Ignihyde: Idia would freak out and Ortho would naturally be curious, Idia desperate to get you turned back to normal. He would make you stay out of his room and the labs, knowing that you could mess with all of the electronics and fragile equipment. You whine and scratch at his door, wanting attention and making it hard for Idia to play his games online without your loud meows being in the background. Ortho would try to analyze you, learning about cats as he pets you and takes care of you since Idia won’t leave his room. He begs Idia to let you into his room just once, sighing as Idia does so but continues to game while you just curl up on his bed napping.

Diasomnia: Malleus would be confused with Lilia very intrigued, Silver too tired to care and Sebek indifferent. Malleus would just love and cuddle with you, happy to not be so lonely right now and taking care of you like he does Gao Gao. But don’t you dare scratch him, or Sebek will come after you and take you away from his master after all. Lilia would play with you, hanging from the ceiling while dangling toys in front of you. Whenever you needed to take a nap, you would just go sleep beside Silver when he is taking one of his naps too. Sebek would give you some attention since at least you’re not a human right now and eventually Lilia would get you an antidote to change back.
